They were the parents of four daughters and a son: Verla Cleora (b. 19 Jul 1919), Donna Maxine, Phyllis Jean, C. Lavonne and Wayne H.. Verla married Ray Schara. They had two daughters, Sharon and Sandra. Verla died in Feb 1995. Ray continues to live in Postville, IA. Donna married Charles Schara. They have two daughters, Gayle and Robyn. They live in Austin, MN. Phyllis first married Virgil Granneman and then married Emery Leffler. She has a daughter, Diane Kay Granneman. Phyllis lives in Fayette, IA. C. Lavonne married Kermit Anfinson. They have two sons and a daughter: David, Gary and Sherry. The Anfinsons live in Ossian. Wavne married Marjorie Wells. They have two sons, Jeffery and John.

William died 5 Dec 1950. Olivia died 12 Nov 1964. They are buried at the Stavanger Lutheran Church Cemetery near Ossian.

Scott, Edward and Mary (Gallagher)

Edward Scott was born in County Meath, Ireland in Oct 1826. Fie came to this country when he was a month old with his parents who settled in St. Lawrence County, New York.

As a young man, he located in Chicago, IL where he married Mary Ann Gallagher. They came to Iowa about 1856 and first lived near Decorah, IA in Madison Twp. There two children were born: Mary Ann (b. 11 Jan 1848) and Flenry (b. 12 Sep 1860).

Edward filed on land in Bloomfield Twp, Winneshiek Co and in 1857 he bought 280 acres in Section 31. He paid $53.40 an acre for the land. Four more children were born in Bloomfield Twp: Edward (b. 1862), Eliza (b. 1864), George (b. 1866) and Ella (b. 21 Jul 1868), Edward sold a corner of this land which adjoined the road so a school house could be built. It was called Bloomfield #8 School which remained until the land was purchased by Doyle Gordon. At this time there was little left of the building which was of concrete stucco construction.

Edward also bought land in Section 10, Bloomfield Twp which he paid $1.25 an acre - for a total of $50.00. This land was sold to Oscar Moore for $700.00 when Edward died in 1893.

Edward’s wife Mary died in childbirth on 19 Dec 1867 at age 31. She was buried in a country cemetery located in Section 10 of Clermont Twp, Clayton Co. In 1874 the Clermont Catholic Parish established their new cemetery at the east edge of Clermont and attempted to move the remains from the old cemetery. However, some of the headstones had been taken from the cemetery and all of the remains were not found. Among them was Mary Ann Scott. This land was then sold to Harris Kjosa who still owns the property.

On 1 Jan 1875 Edward Scott married Sarah McClane at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian, IA. To this marriage four children were born: Frederick (b. 19 Mar 1877), Richard (b. 1879), Rose (b. 20 Mar 1881) and Eugene (b. 31 Oct 1883).

In 1887 Edward bought lots 16,17 and 18 in Block 14, Brooks 2nd Addition in Ossian. He and his wife Sarah moved to Ossian where he died 10 Nov 1891. He was buried at St. Francis Cemetery near his son Frederick who died 13 Aug 1878 from burns suffered in a hot water accident when less than two years old.

The farm in Bloomfield Twp was then sold to Fred Mundt for $45.00 an acre. The total price was $10,700.00. Fred Mundt had financial problems and took his own life shortly after this transaction. The land was taken by Meyers, Figges and Carters and later sold to Fred Mundt’s widow, Christina in 1901. She deeded it to her sons
