Anna was born 3 Nov 1838. On 26 Aug 1856 Anna married Jan Klimes. (See Jan & Anna (Mikota) Klimes history.) Albert was born 21 Apr 1841. On 26 Jan 1869 in Festina, IA Albert married Theresa Louzensky. Albert and Theresa farmed in Sumner Twp. and were parents of 10 children: John (m. Catherine Schuler); Mary (m. Phillip Bouska); Albert (m. Mary Kerian); Frank M.; Joseph (m. Mary Lukesh); Theresa (m. George Nockles); Anna (m. Paul Krumm); James; William (m. Anna Mikesh); and George (m. Celia Schmitt). Mathias was born 28 Jan 1844. On 26 Jan 1869 in Spillville, Mathias married Anna Hrnecek. After first farming in Sumner Twp., Mathias and Anna moved to the state of WA. They had 10 children: John; Mary (m. Abel St. Germaine); Agnes (m. Charles Dueberry); Aloysius (m. Mary Allen); Andrew (m. Hannah Hunt); William; Edward (m. Kathryne Spretzer); August; Rose (m. Jack Scollard); and Cecelia (m. James Howard). Barbara was born 17 Feb 1847. On 13 Nov 1866 in Spillville Barbara married Frank Moravetz. They farmed in Sumner Twp. and were parents of 6 children: Frank; Mary (m. James F. Fisher); Anna (m. Andrew Horn); Rose; Victoria (m. Charles Stiburek); and Albert (m. Anna Moudry). Catherine was born 27 May 1851. She died as a child and is said to be interred in an Indian burial ground on the north perimeter of what is now St. Clement Church property.

Angelac and Lawrence E. Mikota 25th anniversary

Lawrence E. Mikota was born on the Mikota family farm, the oldest son of Elmer A. and Anna (Svestka) Mikota. Elmer was born on the Mikota farm 8 Aug 1912 to George and Celia (Schmitt) Mikota. Anna was born 27 Jul 1918 in Howard Co. to Joseph and Ann (Hubka) Svestka.

Elmer and Anna were married 28 Nov 1939. Two sons were born to this union: Lawrence Elmer  and Gerald Edward. Elmer and Anna farmed until Elmer was stricken with Polio in 1952. He passed away 30 May 1953. The family farm was kept going by Anna, Lawrence and Gerald with the help of Grandpa George Mikota, Uncle Edward Mikota and cousin Edward J. Mikota.

On 26 Sep 1962 Lawrence married Angela Kriener at St. Mary’s Church, Waucoma, IA. Angela  is the second youngest daughter of John and Mary (Hageman) Kriener of Waucoma.

Lawrence “Larry’’ is the fourth generation running the farm that has been in the Mikota family for 135 years. The land was purchased by his Great-grandfather Albert Mikota in 1860 from the U.S. Government and is located in Section 22 of Sumner Twp. in Winneshiek Co. Larry runs a cow/calf herd and raises corn, beans, oats and hay. Angie has worked off the farm. She has been employed at Deco Products of Decorah, Nor-Eg Inc. of Calmar, Wapsie Produce, Decorah and is currently employed at CamCar Textron of Decorah.

Larry and Angie are members of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Spillville, IA where Larry is a member of the Holy Name Society and Angie is a member of the Ladies Guild where she is presently serving as treasurer.

Larry’s brother Gerald served in the army from 1963-1966. On 27 Jun 1970 he married Linda Rothmeyer, daughter of Cornelius and Marie (Cremer) Rothmeyer, Calmar, IA. They have 3 sons: Mark, Ryan and Chad and live in Brooklyn Park, MN.

Miller, Frank and Esther (Stephens)

Frank Roy Miller (20 Sep 1915-29 Mar 1977) was born in Burr Oak Twp., the second son of Roy and Edna Miller of Viewlawn Farm. Frank was educated in a rural school situated on a corner of the Miller farm adjacent to Highway 52. He graduated from Decorah High School (1933), from Luther College (1937) and from Iowa Law School (1940). On 8 Jun 1938 he married Esther Stephens who joined him in Iowa City until his graduation. They then moved to Decorah, IA where Frank began law practice with Judge C. N. Houck. Eventually Frank purchased this practice which existed in the old Ben Bear building (now Snyder Drug). Later he purchased the Braddish home at 301 W. Broadway and moved his practice to that site. He practiced with Floyd Pearson, Ira J. Melaas, Donald Gloe and Jim Burns. Mr. Melaas moved to Rock Island, IL. Pearson, Gloe and Burns carried on the law work after Frank's decease on 29 Mar 1977 and together with Marion Beatty and Robert Cowie continue the legal service of the Miller Law Firm.

Esther Stephens was born in Capital, MT, the daughter of Melvin and Josephine Stephens. She graduated from Decorah High School and entered the Decorah College for Women which subsequently merged with Luther College. Financial pressure caused her to give up
