overseas where he served in France and Belgium. He was discharged in May 1945.

Earl and Bernice made their home near Castalia. Earl worked with sheet metal and did furnace repair and installation, plumbing and electrical work. They were the parents of 4 children: Robert, Janice, Roger and Richard. Robert Earl married Sheryl Hogenson. They live in New Hampton where Robert is a barber. They have 2 sons, Luther Lee and Lonny Robert. Luther married Stacy Straka.

Janice Lee married Harold N. Lien. They live in Rochester, MN. They are the parents of 4 children: Renee Suzanne, Jeffrey Alan, Timothy Jay and Heidi Ann. Renee married Tom Erickson. Jeffrey married Susan Meyer. Jeffrey and Susan have a son, Adam.

Roger Alan served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He married Katherine Proeger. They live near Frankville. They are the parents of 2 children, Matthew Alan and Jill Catherine.

Richard Paul married Joyce M. Schrandt. They had a son, Rodney Paul. Richard was killed in an automobile accident on 19 Aug 1976. Joyce then married Ray Piorkowski of Elkader. Joyce and Ray have a daughter, Kimberly Marie.

Earl Linderbaum died 19 Apr 1984. Bernice has been employed in the Dietary Department at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah for several years. The family belong to the Frankville Presbyterian Church.

Linderbaum, Ludwig and Caroline (Martins)

Ludwig and Caroline (Martins) Linderbaum came to America in 1882 from Germany. They first went to Postville, IA and then lived in Frankville Twp., Winneshiek Co., IA and then lived in Ossian and then went back to Postville. Their son, Charles (born 1874) was 7 years old when he came to America. He married Alma Lydia Pliester (born 1883) in 1900. They had 12 children and farmed in Bloomfield Twp. near the area once known as Moneek. Their oldest son was Carl Linderbaum  who married Olga Knudsvig (born 1905). She was the daughter of Peter and Serina Knudsvig. Carl and Olga farmed in Military Twp. on a farm which was homesteaded by the Knudsvig family. They had 3 children with the oldest son being Conley Linderbaum. Conley was a farmer in Military Twp. and he married Viola Lien in 1953. Conley and Viola had 2 children, Dennis who still farms the Knudsvig homestead mentioned above, and Dianne. Dianne married David Ameling in 1979. David is the son of Felix and Colette (Langreck) Ameling. Dianne and Dave have 2 children; Danielle  and Jonathan. The Ameling family has lived in Ossian since 1981 after living in Decorah following their marriage. Dianne works in a bank and Dave is a truck dispatcher as of this writing in 1995.

Paula, Cheryle, Valorie, Leo and Tammet Linnane

Cheryle Jean Noecker is the youngest daughter of Clifford and Eunice (Vail) Noecker. She married Leo Patrick Linnane of Bluffton, IA 24 Jun 1961. They have 3 daughters: Tammet Leigh, Valorie Ann and Paula Kim. Leo and Cheryle live on the Linnane family farm. Cheryle is a medication aide at the retirement home in Preston, MN.Tammet married David Jerrow 13 Jan 1979. They have 3 children: Angel, Timothy and Phillip. David is serving in the U.S. Army and plans to retire a “20 year man.” Valorie Ann has 2 children: Kyle Mark and Michaela Jean. Paula Kim married Tony Severson 15 Feb 1986. They live in Preston, MN. Paula is a nurse at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, MN. Tony and his father own a sanitary trucking business. Tony also is a volunteer fireman. Tony and Paula have 1 son, Adam Lawrence.

Lionberger, Paul and Justine (Holum)

Paul Harvey Lionberger was born in Bremerton, WA in 1925 to Harvey and Anna Storaasli Lionberger. Soon after the beginning of WWII he quit high school at age sixteen to enter employment as an apprentice marine electrician at the Puget Sound Navy Yard to repair ships damaged at Pearl Harbor. In Aug 1942 he joined the US Navy as a sailor serving overseas on Attu Island, AK as an Aviation Radio Technician First Class. After VJ Day he served in the V-12 Officer Training program at Oregon State College for a year. Paul graduated from Luther College in

1949    and from Luther Theological Seminary in 1953. In

1950    he married Justine Holum, Luther College 1950, who was born at Barnesville, MN, and grew up in Westby, Wl, the daughter of Rev. J.O. Holum and Signe Halvorsen Holum.

Before ordination Paul served a four-point parish in northern Idaho where he also supervised the construction of a new church and parsonage at St. Maries, ID to which he returned to serve for two years after ordination. In 1955 he was called to teach in the Bible Department
