children took the name of Iverson. Berthe (31 Oct 1818-12 Dec 1832) died at age 14. She is buried in the Valdres churchyard. Haaken (10 Jan 1822-15 Jun 1900) married Ragnild Olsdtr. (1831-14 Oct 1911). Both are buried at Decorah Lutheran Cemetery. They came to America with their daughter, Little Ingri and Haaken’s mother Ingri Quil in 1869. He was a shoemaker in his small home at the rear of the lot, 2 houses west of the Milwaukee Depot, on the north side of Water Street. He wrote letters to Norway. His daughter Little Ingri married William J. Schmitz. Ragnild lived with them in Wisconsin until her death. Their daughter Mary Louise did not marry. Ellend was born in 1824 in Lomen and died there. Roland (20 Dec 1824) died in Hatton, ND. (See separate article.) Christian (1826) moved to Grafton, ND. He had a son Andrew who had a son Ray in Bismark, ND. Tobias (1828-1873) married Mari Henrickson (1834-1908). Their children were: Inger, Theodore, Henry, Bertha, Carrie, Julia, and William. Laterman, Leslie and Marion (Brandt)

Leslie Leonard Laterman was born in Frankville, Winneshiek Co., IA. He was the son of Albert and Elsie Laterman. His father was born in Germany in 1888 and his mother was born in Fayette Co., IA.

Leslie married Marion Brandt 2 Dec 1947 near Frankville. There are no children. Marion was born 29 Jan 1916 near Frankville. Her father was Arthur Brandt who was born 28 Jun 1880 in Clayton Co., IA. Her mother was Esther (Snitker) Brandt who was born in Allamakee Co.,

IA 20 Oct 1887.

Leslie and Marion farmed on Marion’s home place which they purchased in 1958. They later also purchased the John Schuttafarm. They are members of the Frankville Presbyterian church where they are both ordained elders. Marion has served as pianist and organist in the church for over 60 years. She taught school and Sunday School before she was married. Both have been active in Farm Bureau work including the Farm Bureau chorus. Leslie belongs to I.O.O.F. (International Order of Odd Fellows), is a Gideon member, past trustee of Frankville Twp. and served as chairman of the Winneshiek Extension Council. They live on the home farm in Frankville Twp. Leslie and Marion donated 20 acres of hardwood timber to the Winneshiek Co. Conservation Board to be used as an educational forest reserve. The name of the timber tract is “Marilie Educational Forest Reserve". The name Marilie is a combined form of the names, Marion and Leslie.

Lee, Jacob & Anna (Hegtvedt)

Jacob Gustin Lee was born 1 Mar 1892 in Glenwood Twp. to Knudt A. and Kjirsti (Nesset) Lee. Both Knudt (3 Mar 1846) and Kjirsti (9 Nov 1848) were born in or near Laerdal, Sogn, Norway. They were married in 1876 and lived on a farm near Borgund, Norway until coming to the United States in 1891. Jacob was the only child baptized

in the United States - his four older brothers and sisters were baptized in the “new" church which is a few yards from the stave church at Borgund.

Jacob, who was called ‘Jake" by all who knew him, married Anna Johanna Hegtvedt 2 Feb 1927 in the Decorah Lutheran Church parsonage. Anna was born near Decorah 20 Jul 1908 to John and Mathilda (Buer) Hegtvedt. John was born 15 Jun 1871 in Glenwood Twp. to Ole and Anne (Baker) Hegtvedt. Ole came from Telemark, Norway and Anne from Valdres, Norway. Mathilda’s father, John Buer, came from Toten, Norway and her mother, Johanna Bolson, was born in Glenwood Twp. Johanna’s father, Thorer Bolson, who came from Raelingen, Norway, built the first Bolson bridge over the Upper Iowa River.

Keith, Jacob, LaRue, Anna and Gloria

Jake and Ann had 3 children. Gloria Ann married Donald Aspenson and they had 6 children: Dianne, Gary, James, Julie, Mark and Janet. Don died in 1986 and Gloria married Walter Larson in 1991. Gloria and Wally live in Waukon, IA. Keith married Gertrude Kugel. They have 5 children: Jacob, John, Jacqueline, Jeffrey and Jens. Jake attended grade school in Frankville Twp. and was confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. Anna attended grade school in Glenwood Twp. and was confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church. Before marriage Jake helped on his father’s farm in Frankville Twp. and also spent time with threshing crews in South Dakota. His favorite sport was horseshoe pitching at which he excelled. He loved the challenge of competition and was once champion of a Winneshiek Co. tournament which earned him a trip to the Iowa tournament.

Jake and Ann spent their working lives on the farm, first on Clay Hill, then between Decorah and Ossian, and
