firmed at big Canoe Lutheran Church and educated at the Kjome rural school. Four sisters (Tilda Josephine, Ida Clarese, Sarah Emelia and Isabelle Bertina) and one brother (Walter Elliot) were born after Louise. Since she was the eldest, she left the family as a teenager to become a tailor’s assistant in Spring Grove. Her next employment was as a clerk at the Thune Store in Highlandville and later she was a saleswoman at E.L. Tollefson in Mabel where she was working when Ole proposed marriage to her.
The couple lived on a farm near Newhouse for 2 years and then purchased a farm northwest of Newhouse (4 1/2 mi southwest of Spring Grove) in 1910. Ole was Treasurer of the local school board for 20 years, a supervisor on the town board for 12 years (10 years as chair), township clerk for 12 years and president of the Highland congregation.
Louise managed the large household, shared her talents as a seamstress, served as pianist in the community and cared for her family. Most of the family members were interested in music and formed a family musical group who played and sang on special occasions.
After Ole died on 13 Oct 1963, Louise remained on the farm with her daughter, llyn and son-in-law Willard Musser and family, until she was disabled by a fall in 1981.
