her invalid mother for thirteen years.

Edwin and Anna have 5 children all of whom live near Castalia. They have 17 grandchildren, (a grandson died at age 16) and they have 18 great-grandchildren.

Marius married Robert Brandt at Castalia. They live on a farm in Sec. 4 of Bloomfield Twp., Winneshiek Co. They are the parents of Stanley, Bradley, and Richard.

Arlene married Leon Everman. They live on a farm in Sec. 20 of Bloomfield Twp. Leon and Arlene are the parents of Bruce, Byron, and Luann.

JoAnn  married Leo O’Hara. The marriage ended in divorce. They are the parents of Michael, Lynn, Scott (killed in an auto accident), Mark, Traci, Lisa and David.

JoAnn lives in Postville and is employed at the Iowa Turkey Products Co.

Anna and Edwin Englehardt of Castalia

Edwin, Jr. married Nancy Krambeer of rural Luana. They are the parents of Doreen, Paul, and Timothy. Ed and Nancy live on a farm near Luana and rent out the acres. Ed and Nancy co-drive a semi flatbed truck for the Kuhn's Trucking Firm in Ft. Atkinson, IA.

Roger married Carol Berger of Carson City, NE. Roger was in the U.S. Marine Corps and resided in Carson City for several years. They have a son, Kevin, who also served in the U.S. Marines Corp. Roger and Carol live in Postville. He drives a flatbed semi truck for Kuhn’s Trucking in Ft. Atkinson, IA.

Edwin and Anna have been members of Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia many years. Anna is a member of the women’s organizations (WELCA), was a Bible school and a Sunday school teacher. She loves all children and many former students remember her. Edwin was a member of the men's brotherhood and a member of their dart ball team. Edwin and Anna spend most of the time in their home and enjoy visiting with their families and friends.

Erdman, Lowell P. and Audrey (Stephenson)

In Jul 1955 Lowell P Erdman moved to Decorah to open a private practice in civil engineering and land surveying. The firm was known as L.P Erdman, Consulting Civil Engineer. It was located at 1261/2 West Water Street above Hunt’s Variety Store. The practice initially included teaching pre-engineering at Luther College and the part-time position of city engineer for the City of Decorah.

Architect Charles Altfillisch had been serving as city engineer and members of his architectual firm had been teaching the pre-engineering course. It was at his invitation that the private practice in engineering was begun.

In 1959 Mr. Erdman resigned the teaching position at Luther College. In 1961 the firm moved to 109 1/2 West Water Street above the C.R. Anthony Store to shared offices with the city attorney, Thomas Lynch. The office was moved to 405 College Drive in 1970 due to staff increases. The name was changed to Erdman Engineering Service. The building was owned by Dr. J.M. Blodgett and served as dentist offices on the upper level. In 1979 the official title of the business was changed to Erdman Engineering, PC. and in 1981 Lindsay C. Erdman joined his father in the business. Lindsay was a graduate of Iowa State University in 1981 and became a licensed professional engineer and registered land surveyor. In Jun 1990 the firm of Erdman Engineering, PC. built a new office at 708 Commerce Drive to accommodate a staff of ten people. The practice is now owned and operated by Lindsay C. Erdman. Lindsay became the city engineer upon the resignation of his father in 1990.

Mr. Lowell P Erdman served the City of Decorah as city engineer for 35 years and as assistant city engineer for an additional five years.

Lowell Paul Erdman was born in Wesley, IA to Paul and Olive Stilwell Erdman. He graduated from Wesley High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Airforce from 1945 to 1946. He enrolled in Iowa State University College of Civil Engineering in 1946 and graduated in 1950. From 1950 to 1952 he worked as a construction engineer for the Iowa Department of Transportation at Jefferson, IA and from 1952 to 1955 for Phillips Petroleum, Bartlesville, OK. On 18 Aug 1956 he married Audrey Lucille Stephenson, Slayton, MN. She is the daughter of Stephen and Irene K. Stephenson. They have 3 sons: Lindsay Craig, Paul Stephen, Jeffrey Alan.

Lindsay was married to Karla Luzum 8 May 1992 at St. Lucas, I A. Jeffrey married Kay Guttebo ^ Aug 1967 a‘i Decorah, IA. They live in West Des Moines, IA. Paul is single and lives in Iowa City, IA.

Albert Calmer Erickson was born 12 Apr 1897 near Burr Oak, Winneshiek Co., IA, the son of Andrew and Carrie (Lynne) Erickson. Albert’s parents were both born in Hadeland, Norway, and were married 29 Apr 1889. Andrew and Carrie had 9 children: Carl, Leif, William, Albert, Silas, Fritjof, Palma, Otto and Paul Sherman.
