immigrated with his family to the U.S. about 1883. His father disappeared shortly after the family arrived in the U.S. and was believed to have been murdered because he was carrying a large amount of cash at the time of his disappearance. Mary was left to raise Henry and his brothers: Carl J, (25 Nov 1879-28 July 1944), Ernest Albert (1881-1952) and William (11 Sep 1883-Before 1936). William was raised by a foster mother and later took her last name, Coogan. Mary Reutlinger later married John Stevens and had 3 more children: Harry, Elizabeth (m. Ben Jones) and Clarence.

Emil and Florence (Bartholomew) Reutlinger lived on afarm northwest of Cresco and had 5 children: Harold E. (1904-1987) married Mildred Buresh; Bessie Florence (1906-1976) married Raymond F. Jurgensen; Nellie (1907-1908); Ethel (b. 1914) married Everet Roggentein; and Gerald Hartley (1918-1986) married Helen Swanson. Emil died 6 Nov 1936 in Iowa City, IA and Florence died 7 Mar 1971 at Cresco. Both are buried in the New Oregon Cemetery, south of Cresco.

Bartholomew, George and Eliza (Harrison)

George Bartholomew was born in Lincolnshire, England 14 Nov 1814. On 6 Mar 1843 he married Eliza Harrison who was born in Nottinghamshire, England 12 Nov 1810. The couple emigrated to America a few weeks after their marriage. After one year in York state they moved to Simco, Province Ontario, Canada, where they remained 10 years. Their 3 children were born in Simco: Andrew (12 Jan 1844-16 Apr 1905), Susannah (1846-12 Aug 1912) and George Jr. (13 Apr 1848-1914).

In Apr 1854 the Bartholomew family came to Iowa and settled on afarm in Bloomfield Twp, Winneshiek Co. Along with farming Andrew and Susannah were teachers in the rural schools, earning $30.00 for the school term. George became a naturalized U.S. citizen 20 Oct 1860 at Decorah, IA.

In 1865 the Bartholomew family moved to a farm south of Cresco in New Oregon Twp., Howard Co., IA where George died 27 Feb 1890. Eliza, Susannah and George, Jr. then moved to a farm northwest of Cresco in 1891 where Eliza died 22 Aug 1893. Neither Susannah or George, Jr. ever married. The Bartholomews were members of the M.E. church and are all buried in the New Oregon Cemetery south of Cresco in Howard Co. (See separate entry for Andrew Bartholomew).

Baumwart, Henry and Amanda (Christman)

Henry Baumwart was born 14 May 1830 in Walsingham, Norfolk Co., Ontario, Canada, the son of David Baumwart and Julia Mabee. Henry’s brothers and sisters were: Gideon, Lydia (see Henry and Lydia White history), Rebecca A., Mary, Rachel and Julia. Henry married Amanda Jane Christman, born 22 Dec 1833 in Tonawanda, NY

Henry and Amanda were married 13 Mar 1859 in Benton, Ml. They had 5 childlren: Arthur C., Benton Willard, Burlin Millard, Gideon Winters and Grant E.

Arthur C. was born 17 Jan 1860 in Springfield Twp., Winneshiek Co., IA and married Rebecca “Kate" Catherine (Hardy) Duff 26 Mar 1885 in Winneshiek Co. Their children are: Lloyd and Elvie. Benton Willard was born 26 Mar 1861 in Springfield Twp. He was a twin to Burlin Millard but lived only 5 months and 22 days, dying 17 Sep 1861. He is buried in Centennial Cemetery, Ossian, IA next to his mother. Burlin Millard was born 26 Mar 1861 in Springfield Twp, a twin to Benton Willard. Burlin married Nellie J. Ward 15 Mar 1892 in Riverton, IA. They had one child. Burlin married Ollie D. Stall 28 Aug 1898 in West Union, IA. Burlin was a photographer and had studios at West Union and Waucoma, IA. Gideon Winters was born 15 Aug 1862 in Ossian. He married Dora Etta Hougland 27 Apr 1893 in Waucoma. Their children are: Bernice, Cary L., Glen W., Luvern F and Ira Lloyd. Dora died 2 Nov 1941 in Canute, OK and Gideon died 14 Oct 1908 in Elk City, OK. Grant E. was born 22 Oct 1864 in Springfield Twp. His last known residence was Omaha, Douglas Co., NE.

Henry and Amanda settled in Winneshiek Co. in 1859. Henry went back to Canada to help his father and died there 17 Aug 1865. He is buried in Charlotteville, Norfolk Co., Ontario, Canada. Amanda died 2 Jan 1897 in West Union. She is buried in Centennial Cemetery.

Lana Marie Gipp was born 18 Sep 1949 in Decorah, the daughter of Elmer John and Edith Charlotte (Sersland) Gipp. Lana’s brothers and sisters are: Linda Kay, Lois Ann, Lyle Elmer and Lorna Jean.

Lana attended the one room Hyde School from kindergarten through the 6th grade. She then completed school in Decorah graduating in 1967. Lana graduated from Weaver Airline School, Kansas City, MO in 1968, which unexpectedly landed her a job in Washington, D.C. working for the FBI from 1969-1971. She then returned home to the Midwest and settled in Minneapolis, MN where she worked for a dentist and took classes at the University of Minnesota. Lana earned a degree in Dental Work in 1972.

In 1974 Lana married Donald Leo Giem. The marriage ended in 1990. Lana has 2 sons: Todd Lyle (b. 28 Feb 1978) and Joshua John (b. 20 Feb 1980). Both boys were born in Minneapolis.

On 18 Jul 1992 Lana married Troy Alen Beam. Lana and Troy live in Prior Lake, MN.
