N. Iowan Killed in French Blitz - Pvt. Olaf Lium Loses Life During Invasion

Rake, IA - Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lium received a message from the war department that their son, Pvt. Olaf Lium, had been killed in action in France July 26. Pvt. Lium entered the service Dec. 7, 1943, and took his basic training in the infantry at Camp Blanding, Fla. He was home on furlough last April en route to an embarkation center at Fort Meade, Md. Pvt. Lium left the states in May and landed in England where he was stationed until D-Day. The last letter received from him was written July 25 from France. Pvt. Lium was 38 years old. He was born on the home farm 3 1/2 miles northeast of Rake where he resided all his life until entering the service. He is survived by his parents, 2 brothers, Melvin and Gilbert Lium, all of this community.
