Benajah L. Steele and his wife, Mary C., lived in Hartford, Iowa when the above ad for the Buckeye Mill was listed. Benajah was born about 1816 in Ohio and his family were Quakers. Benajah was a physician. Also living in the same household was Benajah H. Steele, possibly a cousin. Benajah L. and Mary moved to Des Moines, Iowa by 1870 and lived there until Benajah L. Steele died on March 27, 1882. He was buried in Hartford Cemetery. Benajah H. Steele, born in Ohio about 1835, lived between Iowa and Ohio in the census years of 1870, 1880, and 1885. He eventually moved to Benton County, Arkansas, where he died June 23, 1921.
