Obituary - Funeral services for Mrs Vincent (Helen) Dancer, 51, of New Market were held April 5 at Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda with Rev George White officiating. Mrs Dancer died April 1 at University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa. Interment was at Memory Cemetery, New Market.

She was formerly Helen Eberly, born in Clarinda, Dec 28, 1916 to Cyrus E. and Ethel Irene Annan Eberly. Her parents are now at Greeley, Colo., and sisters Mrs J.A. (Margy) Wirsing in Yokohama, Japan and Mrs Maurice W. (Jean) Erricson of Denver, Colo. A sister, Mrs Vada Pratt, preceded her in death.

She has always lived in the New Market vicinity. She was married March 6, 1949, her husband and daughter, Rebecca Jane, surviving at the home in New Market. She was active in the Methodist church, especially the WSCS, and in the Rebekah Lodge. Bedford Times-Press, April 1968

Obituary - Sarah Almeda Cunning, daughter of William and Ruth Cunning, was born in Ohio, Sept 30, 1849, and passed away at Braddyville, Iowa, Nov 11, 1941, aged 92 years, 1 month and 12 days. Her death came as a shock to relatives and friends. She was around the home until Sunday morning when she suffered an illness from which she never rallied.

She came with her parents to Iowa in 1854 and spent most of her life here.

She was united in marriage to James R. Davison, Nov 3, 1867. To this union was born seven children, three of whom are living: Mrs George Lathrop of Lenox, Ia, Mrs Melvin Goudie of Piercy, Calif, and William at home. Her husband and four children have passed to the great beyond, Philinia, Cora, Ella and a little babe.

She joined the Christian church while quite young and lived in that faith until the end. To know her was to love her. She was loved by everyone who knew her.

Funeral services were held Nov 13, 1941, at the Christian church in Braddyville, conducted by Rev Ellsworth L. Woods of the Clarinda Christian church. Music was furnished by a mixed quartette, composed of Mose Burch, Mary Burch, Violet and Claude Apple, with Mrs May Stickelman at the piano. The great grandchildren who carrried the beautiful floral pieces were Ethel Brummett and Herald Long. The casket bearers were the grandsons, Ray Wirth, Charley Wirth, Floyd Wirth, Paul Wirth, Glen Damewood and Harley Diggs. Burial was made in Memory cemetery. [poem]

Josiah (Dick) Davison, eldest son of Hardin and Harriett Davison, was born 6 miles east of Clarinda, Iowa, in East River Township, Page county, Iowa, on the 25th day of September, 1850, and passed away on the 21st day of October 1922, aged 72 years and 27 days. He passed nearly all his life within sight of the home where he was born, except a short residence in Pitkin, Colorado. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs Olive I. Kelly, one mile east of Clarinda, where he was visiting for a short time.

He was married to Miss Mary N. Pace on the 27th day of June, 1873. She died Oct 15, 1881, and was buried on a mountain side in Colorado. Dick always revered her memory.

To this union was born three children one son and two daughter, Orville I. Davison and Olive Kelly and Estella Everett, all of whom survive him.

Very shortly after Mary died Dick returned to Page county, Iowa, where on January 19, 1888, he was married to Miss Mary F. Harris who was his faithful companion the balance of his life.

To this union one child was born, Mrs Ethel F. Hamm.

Dick has been an invalid for ten years, but his malady has not been acute, until the last three years; since when he has been a great sufferer, and there were times he was momentarily expected to die, but he would rally. He bore his affliction uncomplainingly, being always attended by his faithful wife who tided him over many sharp attacks, when it seemed as if he must die. He had the best of medical attention, but it was of no avail; they could not heal his infirmities, loving care and hands could no longer alleviate his sufferings so he passed to the great beyond.

He never became a member of any church, he never was a professor; but he was what is better, a doer of religion; he was a good citizen, a faithful husband, a kind father, a generous friend; he was one of the noblest works of God -- an honest man.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his beloved wife, four children and seven grandchildren to which he was greatly attached, Orville I. Davison and Mrs Estella Everett, of Pineville, Oregon, Mrs Olive I. Kelly one mile east of Clarinda, and Mrs Ethel M. Hamm 2 miles east of Clarinda; besides four brothers and three sisters -- Jeptha Davison of Waldron, Colorado, Isaac Davison of Clarinda, Jackson Davison of St Joseph, Mo.; and Erastus R. Davison of New Market, Mrs Nancy Ann Pace of New Market, Mrs Dica Wamsley of Lyons, Colorado, Mrs Eva F. Smith of Omaha, Neb., besides a host of friends and distant relatives.

His funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs Olive I. Kelly conducted by Rev James A. Burns, Christian minister of Clarinda. The floral decorations were many and beautiful.

Obituary - Florence Naomi Derry was born May 1, 1908, at Shambaugh, Iowa, and died at her home near New Market October 19, 1946, at the age of 38 years, 5 months and 18 days.

She was born the second child of Mr and Mrs B.C. Hoskins and grew to young womanhood in the Shambaugh vicinity. She attended school at Clarinda, Iowa, completing her education in Oskaloosa, Iowa, after which she taught school for a number of years near the latter place.

On June 2, 1930, she was united in marriage to Marshall A. Derry to which union were born four children, Billy Dean, age 14, Max Leroy, age 12, Raybert James, age 9, and Ilene Joan, age 2.

She was a member of the Mennonite Brethren in Christ church of which she was a faithful member and worker.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and children of New Market, her parents of Shambaugh, a sister, Mrs Ferne Sarver of Searsbora, Iowa, four brothers, Leo A. of Yuma, Colo, Orville D. of Oregon City, Ore, Donald R of Shambaugh, James T. of Mt Pleasant, Iowa, besides other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were conducted at the New Market Mennonite church Monday, Oct 21 by J.B. Starky, assisted by Rev J. Hygema. Mr and Mrs Horace Stone sang three numbers.

Lloyd Beery, Joan Beery, Vern McClarnon, Harold Beery, Gerald Beery, and Ronald Huff were pall bearers. Elsie McClarnon, Delna McClarnon, Thoro Van Pelt and Loro McClarnon were in charge of flowers. Burial was in Memory cemetery. Clarinda Herald Journal

Obituary - Syntyche Ann Birch was born in Monroe county, Ind., Feb 11, 1847, and departed this life Oct 22, 1924, aged 77 years, 8 months and 11 days. She was united in marriage to William Johnson Dollahite May 8, 1872. To this union was born six children, three boys and three girls, four having preceded her to the great beyond. Those living are Mrs Luther Clark of New Market and Mrs Wesley Rine of Shambaugh.

She was converted at the age of twenty-three and united with the Baptist church and later united with the Mennonite church and was faithful in the discharge of her duties until the last. Sister Dollahite has been a great sufferer and has borne it with patience. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother.

She left to mourn their loss, husband, two daughters, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, one brother and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted from the New Market Mennonite church on Thursday by Rev J.K. Myers. Interment was in Memory cemetery. New Market Herald, Oct 30, 1924

Obituary - Gertrude Hines, daughter of Amanda and Nicholas Hines, was born in Henderson County, Illinois, on July 12, 1872, and passed away at her apartment in Clarinda on November 18, 1941, at the age of 69 years, 4 months, 6 days.

She moved from Illinois with her parents to Page county, Iowa, when she was a child. She was united in marriage to Thomas McGarvety Dougherty at Clarinda, Iowa, on November 4, 1896. To this union two sons were born, Ray L. of Clarinda, and Ralph H. of San Antonio, Texas. In 1902 she moved to New Market, Iowa, with her husband where she resided until 1938 when she moved back to Clarinda. Her husband preceded her in death on October 18, 1927.

She united with the Clarinda Christian church when twelve years of age, and during the years has been active.

She leaves to mourn her death her two sons, two brothers, Leonard P. Hines and A.L. Hines, both of Clarinda, three sisters, Lucile Kuhn of Denver, Colo, Persia Brannen, also of Denver, and Agnes Omer of Brownsville, Texas. Her father, mother, two sisters and one brother have preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held on November 21, at 2 o'clock from the Walker funeral home with Rev Woods of the Church of Christ in charge and interment in Memory cemetery.

Music was furnished by Miss Aletha Hutchings and Mrs Doris Forbes, accompanied by Mrs Lola Reid. Pall bearers were Harold Douthit, Roy Herren, F.J. Rogers, Ralph Pratt, J.G. Handford, and R.M. Tuttle. Clarinda Herald-Journal, Nov 1941

Obituary - Funeral services for Claude W. Drennen, 71, well known Taylor county resident, were held January 15 at the Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda with the Rev George White of New Market Methodist church in charge. Mr Drennen died at his home in New Market January 13, 1968 after a long illness. Members of the Elmo American Legion Post had charge of the flag folding ceremonies at the graveside. Interment was at Memory Cemetery near New Market.

He was the son of the late Charles and Anna Belle Pratt Drennen, and was born on a farm in Taylor County, and lived in and around the New Market vicinity most all of his lifetime. He farmed near Bedford and Elmo, and lived for eight years in Omaha, returning here in 1960.

He was a Veteran of WWI and a member of the Elmo American Legion Post.

He is survived by his wife, the former Frances Monahan, and by two sisters, Mrs Beulah Hogg, Sharon Springs, Kans., and Mrs Mildred Kellogg, Vancouver, Wash. He was preceded in death by his two son, Max and Harold, and by two brothers, Harve and Guy. Their daughter-in-law, Annabelle, lives at Mission, Kan. Bedford Times-Press, Jan 1968

Ora Almon Drennen was born August 18, 1883 and died at the age of 59 years, 9 months and 9 days. His boyhood was spent with his grandfather and grandmother drennen, who loved him as their own.

He was married to Orpha Keasling in 1906. She died in 1914.

He was married to Irene Eva Hamilton May 24, 1923. They spent twenty happy years together. Ora loved his home and was always a kind, devoted husband. He was of a cheerful disposition and lived an honest upright life.

He is survived by his wife, four half-brothers, James DeVoe of Norwalk, Ralph DeVoe of Osceola, Charles DeVoe of Sharpsburg, Frank DeVoe of Charles City; one half-sister, Ruth Dickinson of Ames; one aunt, Mrs Effie Pace of Bedford.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in New Market Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev O.H. Hallgrimson of Bedford. Burial was in the Memory cemetery.

Word was received at the TIMES-PRESS of the death of Harold Drennen, 41, of Mission, Kans., on Thursday, Oct 19, in a Mission, Kansas, hospital

He is survived by his wife, Anna Belle, and daughters, Dathone of Mssion, Kans.; his parents, Mr and Mrs Claude Drennen, New Market.

Arrangements for services are pending. Interment will be at Old Memory cemetery, New Market.

Funeral services for Harold D. Drennen, 40, of Mission, Kansas, were held Oct 21 at the Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda. Mr Drennen died Oct 19, 1965, in a hospital in Mission, Kans.

Harold D. Drennen was born Nov 1, 1924 in Taylor county, Iowa, to Mr and Mrs Claude Drennen.

He was graduated from the Elmo, Mo High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Navy.

On Oct 22, 1946 he was united in marriage to Anna Bell Gustafson. They have a daughter, Daphne. He attended NWMSC at Maryville, Mo., then was called to the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the Methodist Church at Rockport, Mo., and a member of the American Legion at Overland Park, Kans. He was employed at a Finance and Loan Co. at Mission, Kans., where they have lived four years.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Max in 1953.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, daughter and parents and paternal grandmother, Mrs Nellie Nevius of New Market, Ia.

He was a kind and loving husband and father and a friend to all who knew him, always ready to lend a helping hand.

Obituary - Jarville Drennen, son of William Harvey and Lucy Abigail Drennen, was born December 22, 1868 in Stockton county, Illinois and died at his home in Brush, Colorado, August 3, 1941 aged 74 years, seven months and 11 days.

He was married to Lucy J. Ray November 29, 1873 and to them were born two daughters Mrs George Oxford of Brush, Colorado and Merda Marie who died several years ago.

He grew to manhood and spent the greater part of his life in Taylor county, moving to Woodrow, Colo, in the fall of 1936. He moved to Brush last spring.

He is survived by his widow; his daughter and her husband; three granddaughters; a sister Mrs Effie Pace of Bedford.

He confessed Christ as his saviour in 1921 and his faith was a great consolation to him during his illness.

Drennen, Agnes Marie Laub, daughter of Dale and Dollie Laub of Braddyville, was born June 29, 1903 in Page county, Iowa near Braddyville, and died March 15, 1947 at the Murphy Memorial Hospital at Red Oak, at the age of 43 years, 8 months and 14 days.

She with her parents moved to Canada in 1913 and returned to the United States in 1918. She finished the eighth grade in Coin and attended the Clarinda High School, graduating in 1922. She then became one of Page county's rural school teachers. She also gave piano lessons.

She united with the Methodist church in Clarinda in 1920.

On May 25, 1923 she was married to Harvey D. Drennen. To them seven children were born; a son, Harvey, Jr., who died at birth, Donald of Red Oak, Mrs James Krise of Clarinda, Mrs Paul Ward of Burlington Junction, Mo., Bobby, Charles and Sammy at home. She also had a step-son Roy, of Kansas City.

Besides her husband and children she leaves her mother and father; one sister,Mrs Harold Ellison of Clarinda; one brother, Rex Laub of Clarinda; an aged grandmother, Mrs Matilda Davison of Braddyville; three grandchildren, Donald Duane and Donna Lee Drennen, and Judy Jackson for whom she had cared since infancy.

Funeral services were held in Clarinda Tuesday, March 18, conducted by Rev Nesbitt of the Methodist church of Coin.

Burial was in the Memory cemetery.

Meda Marie Drennen, daughter of Jarve and Lucy Drennen, was born in New Market December 5, 1899; passed away at her home east of town Nov 16, 1920, aged 20 years, 11 month and 11 days.When 1 1/2 years of age she moved with her parents to Cestos, Oklahoma; while living there she was stricken with spinal meningitis. The effect of this terrible disease upon her left her a delicate body and an affected limb. For walking it became necessary to use crutches.

Five years ago while attending a revival in Brush, Colo., she accepted Christ as her Saviour and was later baptized in New Market.

Her greatest happiness in this world was the work of the Lord. Her home life was beautiful; always thinking of the comfort of others and striving to make those around her happy. Her life was filled with noble deeds and kindly acts, and it can be truthfully said that the world is better for her having lived in it. Last February she suffered an attack of flue and during the months which have followed she has been a patient sufferer, never murmuring or complaining to those around her, and with all her affliction she often expressed her willingness to do her Saviours will. Meda leaves to mourn her loss her father, mother and one sister, Mrs Waive Oxford of Cambridge, Neb., besides a host of relatives and friends. There is a vacant place in the home and in our hearts that can never be filled, but our loss is heaven's gain. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Obituary - Mrs Clara Duncan, 97, died about 7 am Friday at the Municipal Hospital. She had been unconscious since she suffered a stroke Sunday morning, at which time she entered the hospital.

She is survived by a brother, Wilbur Kelley of Clarinda, and a boy whom she and her husband raised, Harry O'Dell of Oklahoma.

Her husband, John Duncan, died in 1926.

Funeral services are at the Methodist Church in New Market this Monday afternoon in charge of the Rev Lacy Thompson. Walker Funeral Home made arrangements. Burial was in Old Memory Cemetery.

Mrs Duncan was the daughter of James and Mary Kelley, the home being four miles east of Clarinda near the Pace School. At time of her birth Clarinda was only about eight years old. She was married in 1889, and lived near New Market on a farm until Mr Duncan's death. Since then, she has made a comfortable and hospitable home in New Market. Clarinda Herald Journal

Obituary - John Harvey Duncan was born Sept 19, 1856 and passed to live forever with the redeemed Nov 22, 1926. He was the oldest and beloved son of the late Alexander and Mary Dillon Duncan. His passing marks the fifth call of the Angel of Death in this family circle in the last three and one half years. He was married to Clara Kelley Jan 24, 1889, who through their long married life has made his home ideal and with mute grief and tender loving hands did all that a fond companion could do during his intense suffering.

John as he was familiarly known enjoyed good health through out his life until one year ago when he was apprised of the fact that he was in the grip of one of the worst and encurable maladies. He prepared and met death heroically as he had met all the battles of life. With the exception of three years in the west he has spent his entire life in Taylor Co. He was industrious and high minded, progressive and always stood for those things that make the community a better place in which to live. He was optomistic and had a smile and a handshake for every one of a host of friends who will remember him as a model citizen, a good neighbor and a loyal friend.

Beside his wife, Clara, he leaves one brother and six sisters and a large company of friends who will miss him in the community.

"Asleep in Jesus blessed sleep, From which none ever wakes to weep, A calm and undisturbed repose, Unbroken by the last of foes."

The funeral was conducted from the Methodist church Wednesday, Nov 24th at 2:00 P.M. by Rev E. O. Douglas of Anita, Ia., assisted by Rev Smith of New Market. Interment was in the Memory cemetery.

Obituary - May Duncan, daughter of Alexander and Mary Jane Duncan, was born on the Duncan farm north of New Market May 19, 1868, and departed from this life Feb 22, 1963, at the age of 94 years, nine months and three days.

Her early years were spent on the farm, where she stayed and helped care for her aged parents.

Alfter her parents' death she moved to New Market, living there some 30 years. Her entire life was spent in Taylor County.

In August 1960, she fell and broke her hip. Being unable to stay in her home, the rest of her life was spent in a rest home in Clarinda, Iowa.

She joined the Methodist church at an early age and was a faithful church worker as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service.

Six sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, Cora Mankle of Clarinda; one nephew, John Mankle of New Market; one great niece, Mrs John Moore of Red Oak, and one great-nephew, Richard Mankle of New Market; many more nieces and nephews living away from here and a host of friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were conducted from the Walker Funeral Home at 2 pm Monday, Feb 25, 1963, with Rev Clarence Moore in charge. Soloist was Joel Pendergraft who sand "Face to Face" and "Beautiful Isle." Organist was Richard Huff. Casket bearers were C.R. Kelley, Floyd Kelley, Jim Clark, Noel Carpenter, Robert Malcom and Walter Noble. Burial was in Memory Cemetery. Clarinda Herald Journal

Obituary - Bessie Orilla Hicks was born at midnight July 20,1890, in the quiet little town of New Market, Ia, to Jasper Newton Hicks and Hettie Ellen Hicks. Bessie had one sister who died in infancy and six brothers, four of whom preceded her in death. The two remaining are Val of New Market and Harry of Creston.

She received her early schooling at the New Market public school and later attended Kirksville Normal at Kirksville, Mo.

Bessie worked several years as a typesetter for the New Market Herald and later as a clerk for Mason Bros store.

On the evening of June 18, 1913, Bessie was united in marriage to Elmer C. Eighmy of New Market and to this union three sons were born, Wendall D of Conway, Lavoy and Larry V. of New Market.

Bessie possessed many talents and received much recognition both locally and nationally for many of her poems. She loved to write and wrote many "special poems" for friends at time of sickness or celebrations and weddings.

She was a charter member of New Market Library and served faithfully as its secretary for nearly 24 years at which time illness prevented her from attending the library meetings and secretarial duties, but was retained as an honorary member until her death.

Many older friends remember Bessie's creative talent for making life-like imitations of dozens of types of flowers and remember the rooms full of beauty she constructed and sold, especially at Memorial time.

Besides being a very devoted housewife and mother, she found time for many hobbies, button collections, miniature bottles, rocks from different states and counties and Indian relics were only a few of the many. Her family histories were near completion and the history of New Market from early time to present contains much information of schools, churches, businesses and business men involved and many items of interest of her home town of New Market.

Bessie joined the Methodist church at a very early age and was baptized in the Nodaway River at Hawleyville. She held much faith in the Lord and though her illness lasted many years and the last few months in the hospital her faith never waivered.

Bessie passed away Sept 29, 1865 at the age of 75 years, two months and nine days at the Rosary hospital in Corning, Ia. Besides leaving her husband and three sons, she leaves five grandsons, two great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters, six nephews, three nieces, and a multitude of friends to mourn her death.

Those who best knew Bessie, believe that when the Lord gave her, he desired her to love and be loved and when he took her it is certain that his desires had been fulfilled. Clarinda Herald Journal

Mr Eighmy died April 5, 1967 at Rosary Hospital in Corning. Fraternal honors were accorded by Covenant Lodge No 453 A.F. & A.M. with interment at Old Memory cemetery, New Market.

Elmer Carlton Eighmy, son of Wilson Delos and Mary Cumley Eighmy, was born Aug 24, 1879 in a small log cabin near Siam in Taylor county, Iowa.

At the age of eight years, Elmer came to the young town of New Market with his mother and made his home with his grandparents at the Cumley Hotel and he spent his entire life in New Market.

He first worked as a farm hand, then operated a local dry line and then chose carpenter work as his profession. Elmer worked as a carpenter for fifty years before retiring in 1955 and during this time probably built or remodeled more homes and professional buildings in New Market than any one carpenter in his time. His skill is still to be found in many of New Market's present homes.

He served his community well having been town assessor 25 years, councilman several terms and as president and member of the local school board for several years.

On June 18, 1913 Elmer married Bessie Hicks and to this couple were born three sons: Wendall D. of Conway, Lavoy and Larry both of New Market.

Bessie preceded him in death having passed away in September of 1965.

He is survived by his three sons; five grandsons; two great grandsons and three great granddaughters.

Elmer was a loyal member of New Market's Masonic Lodge and prized very much his 50 years pin and the plaque presented him honoring his 40 years service as tyler of Covenant Lodge 453 A.F. and A.M.

It was his wish that the Masonic Brothers so honor him again at his last services.

Elmer lived a full life, an enjoyable life and a life which his family and friends can be proud. Bedford Times-Press, April 1967

Obituary - Wilson Delos Eighmy, son of Cornelia Dow and Cyrus Eighmy, was born at Conneautville, Pennsylvania, January 27, 1855.

Early in life he moved with his parents to Iowa where October 30, 1877, he married Miss Mary Elizabeth Cumley, who died July 6, 1923. To this union were born three children, Elmer C., Georgie, who died at the age of three, and an infant daughter who died at birth.

About 1889 Mr Eighmy married Miss Belle Jackson of Clarinda, Iowa. Mrs Eighmy died May, 1934. Three children were born to this union. All died in infancy.

Wilson Eighmy was known throughout many race horse circuits of various states, having only retired from active service as both trainer and driver of horses about eight years ago.

For the past ten years he has lived in Clarinda,Iowa. About six weeks before his death he became ill, three weeks later he came to his son's home where he was cared for until his death, which occurred Tuesday, July 2, 1940, age 85 years, 5 months and 5 days. He was the last of a family of nine children. Five brothers and three sisters all preceded his death.

It is not definitely known whether "Bill," as he was best known, was a member of any church denomination, but he was well versed with the Bible, being able to quote many passages or entire chapters from the Book. Often, during his last days, he would repeat scripture, and sang many hymns, even to the last few minutes of his life he tried to sing, but too weak, failed in the attempt. He had no fear of death. In fact, he had a premonition of parting from this life and had all arrangements made in every detail.

He leaves to mourn his loss, one son, Elmer C. Eighmy, of New Market, Iowa, three grandsons, Wendall Eighmy of Conway, Iowa, Lavoy and Larry Eighmy of New Market, Iowa and one great grandson, John Dean Eighmy of Conway, Iowa, and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at two o'clock pm from the Walker Funeral home, Clarinda, Iowa, Thursday, July 4, 1940, the Rev H.N. Hulse in charge. Interment was in Memory cemetery.

Obituary - Elmer Carolton Eighmy, son of Wilson and Mary Cumley Eighmy, was born Aug 24, 1879, in a log cabin west of Siam in Taylor County, Iowa, and died April 5, 1967, at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 12 days at the Rosary Hospital at Corning, Iowa.

At the age of eight years Elmer came to New Market with his mother and made his home with his grandparents who operated the Cumley Hotel, and here in New Market he spent his entire life.

He first worked as a farm hand, then operated a local drag line and finally trying carpenter work, chose this as his profession. Elmer worked as a carpenter for 50 years before retiring in 1955 and during this period probably built or remodeled more homes and professional buildings than any one carpenter of his time. His skill is still to be found in many of New Market's present homes.

On June 18, 1913 he married Bessie Hicks and to this couple three sons were born, Wendell D. of Conway, Lavoy and Larrry V. both of New Market.

His wife preceded him in death, having passed away in Sept of 1965. He is survived by his three sons, five grandsons, two great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters.

He served his community well having been town assessor 25 years, councilman several times and as president or member of the local school board several years.

Elmer was a loyal member of the New Market Masonic Lodge and prized very much his 50 year pin and a plaque, presented him honoring his 40 years' service as Tyler of Covenant Lodge 453AF-AM.

It was his wish that the Masonic Brothers so honor him again today at his last services.

Obituary - Ola M. Eubanks, 88, of Kansas City, Mo former New Market resident died January 2 at Kansas City.

She was born October 22, 1903, near New Market, the daughter of Newton and Carrie Cade Jones. She graduated from New Market High School and Drake University and taught in New Market public school for a number of years. In 1933 she moved to Kansas City and was an assistant cashier in the Commerce Bank until her retirement in 1968.

She united with the New Market Church of Christ on January 7, 1929.

She is survived by a sister Velma N. McKay of Kansas City, Mo, and a brother Don H. Jones of Shenandoah. Also surviving are nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by parents, and a brother Garve.

Funeral services were held Monday morning, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Carl Cummings officiating. Burial was in Memory Cemetery at New Market.

Evans, Marvel Wright - Funeral services for Mrs Floyd (Marvel E.) Evans, 79 of rural Clarinda will be at 2 pm, Thursday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev Ron Swedberg officiating.

The family will meet friends at the funeral home from 7-8 pm, Wednesday evening.

Mrs Evans died Sunday morning at Municipal Hospital where she had been admitted on Saturday evening.

She was born Nov 11, 1900 at Glenwood, the daughter of Jerry and Fannie Eckertt Wright.

In 1922 she was married to Floyd Evans who survives. Mr and Mrs Evans have made their home on the farm east of Clarinda.

Besides her husband of the home she is survived by two sons, Richard of Clarinda and Daniel of Cleveland, Oh. There are seven grandchildren.

Burial will be in Memory Cemetery.

Farrell, Nellie E. Wineinger- Services for Nellie E. Farrell, 86, of Glenwood, Ia were held July 5 at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda, Iowa. She passed away July 3, 1978 at a Hamburg Hospital. Mrs Farrell was born Feb 22, 1892 on the old Wineinger homestead near Siam in Taylor Co., the daughter of Samuel Lafayette and Annie Branson Wineinger.

She married Walter Lee Farrell on January 15, 1913. Mr Farrell preceded her in death on July 28, 1952 at the age of 61. They lived in the New Market community and following Walter's death, Mrs Farrell moved to Glenwood, Ia where she worked at the Glenwood State Hospital School until reitrement.

Also preceeding her in death were one sister, Ethel Wise of New Market, and one brother, Frank L. Wineinger of Omaha, Nebr.

She united with the New Market Church of Christ early in life, and was a faithful member.She was a woman who was devoted to her home and family.

The Rev John Clark officiated at the memorial service, Joan Archer was soloist and Grace Perry was organist.

Casket bearers were Calvin Farrell, Darwin Farrell, Gilbert Yearous, Ronald Foster, Wayne Neely and Roger Neely.

Burial was in the New Market Old Memory Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Kenny L. Farrell and Max M. Farrell, both of Glenwood, one daughter, Wyleen Hambleton of Medical Lake, Wash and one granddaughter, Latece Debomy of Bear Valley, Calif. There are two great grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one sisters, Jessie Falk, of Omaha, Nebr.

The family will remember her as a kind and considerate mother, neighbor and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Fine, Harvey Ray - Funeral services for Harvey Ray Fine, 73, of Siam, were held July 10 at the Siam United Methodist Church conducted by Carl Cummings and Rev Edward E. Osburn. Mr Fine died July 7, 1971 at his home north of Siam. Interment was at Memory Cemetery, New Market.

Harvey Ray Fine, son of Perry and Rachel Rouch Fine, was born January 3, 1898, in Taylor County near Siam, Iowa.

On January 28, 1920, he was united in marriage to Dessie Holland and they had one son, Eldon. He had lived his entire life in the Siam area enjoying working on the farm until recent years when his health began to fail.

He had become a member of the Siam Methodist Church as a young man.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and one brother, Clarence.

Besides his wife, Dessie, and his son, Eldon, he is survived by his daughter-in-law, Darlene; two granddaughters; two brothers, Lynn of Sheridan, Mo., and Elza of Bedford; six sisters, Mrs Vern Beck (Chloe) of Barstow, Calif., Mrs Lydia Wynn of Santa Barbara, Calif.; Mrs Bula Pace of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mrs Conlin (Blanche) Jobe and Mrs Ruby Renfro of New Market, and Mrs Orville (Inez) Horner of Des Moines, Iowa; several nephews and nieces; other relatives; many friends and neighbors whom he always enjoyed visiting with and who will miss him.

Foster, Clarice Adel Clark - Clarice Adel Clark, daughter of Helen M and Geo W Clark, was born December 20, 1868, in Page County, Iowa. She passed away Nov 15, 1944, at St Mary's Hospital in Pierre, So Dak, at the age of 75 years and 11 months following a lingering illness.

On July 4, 1888, she was united in marriage to Richard L Foster. She is survived by Mr Foster, a daughter, Helen J. Clark of Shenandoah, a son, Richard Jr of Lemmon, S Dak, two sisters, Mrs Addie Wood of King City, Mo, and Mrs Hattie King of New Market.

Mrs Foster grew to womanhood and spent practically all of her early life in Iowa. She received her education at the Memory and New Market schools. She spent many years as a pioneer school teacher in Iowa.

For the past 30 years she has resided in South Dakota.

Funeral services were held Nov 19th in the New Market Methodist church. Officiating clergymen were Richard J. Dieken of Clarinda, and Rev Uhlinger of Shenandoah. Miss Carrie Loranz played the service, and Mrs F.H. Davidson and Mrs Arlo Hawley sang.

Foster, Joseph Bruce - Joseph Bruce, son of Joseph and Meriah Foster, was born at Knoxville, Ill, Feb 14, 1858. He passed away at McKennon hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., Nov 18, 1948, at the advanced age of 90 years, 9 months and [blank] days. He was the last of a family of 9 sons.

Mr Foster came to Page county as a young man, living here until the year 1909, when he moved to South Dakota. After 10 years there, he made his home in North Dakota and Minnesota respectively, for a number of years. Last June, he became ill. He was taken to the hospital on July 1st, where he remained until his death.

On Dec 28th, 1882, Mr Foster was united in marriage to Sarah Almeda Linebaugh in Page county. She passed away September, 1919, also at McKennon hospital in Sioux Falls. Eight children were born to them. A son, Ernest, died at the age of 5 years, and two other children passed away in infancy. The five children surviving are: Mrs Elsie Gustafson of Douglas, Minn, Cecil Foster of Sioux Falls, SD, Mrs Ida Brummett of Norfolk, Neb, Mrs Winnie Anderson of Bison, SD and Mrs Maude Hale, who is in Tokyo, Japan.

In addition to the above named children, there are 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Many years ago Mr Foster was accepted as a brother in the Masonic Lodge at New Market. He later took his membership to Dakota. He always enjoyed the inspiration of the work, and the fellowship of the fraternity.

The funeral service was held Monday, Nov 22, 1948, at Walker funeral home in Clarinda.

Rev W.W. Bentzinger, pastor of First Methodist church, was the clergyman in charge. Burial was in Old Memory cemetery, near New Market, with members of the Masonic Lodge officiating. CHJ 11-22-1948

Fuller, Charles D. - The remains of Chas D. Fuller who died Nov 1st at Long Island, was brought here Thursday evening for burial. The remains were accompanied by Sergeant E.R. Griffith who remained until after the interment.

Deceased was a grand son of Chas Adams and the family of the young man was well known here, this having been their home for many years.

Charles D., youngest son of Charles W. and Effie Fuller, was born Nov 5, 1894, about three miles east of New Market, Ia. At the age of nine years he moved with his parents to Oklahoma, where they resided on a farm four years. They then moved to Mulhall, Okla., where he attended school and worked in a store until at the age of 23 he responded to the call of his country. He enlisted December 11, 1917. He was first sent to Ft Logan, Colo., and from there was transferred to Kelly Field, Texas, in the aviation corps. On September 27 he was transferred to Field 2, Squadron 613, Garden City, Long Island, New York, when he was taken ill with influenza which later developed into pneumonia. He departed this life Nov 1, 1918, aged 23 years, 11 months and 2 days.

He leaves to mourn his loss a father, mother and one brother. Robert F., who is at the front somewhere in France. Besides these are many other relatives and a host of friends. He was a favorite of all who knew him and made many friends where ever he was.

Fuller, William S. - Early Friday morning of last week death removed from our midst another early settler and veteran in the person of William S. Fuller. He was well and favorably known to most of our readers who will sincerely mourn his departure. He was an honorable citizen, splendid neighbor, a loving and indulgent husband and father and while he will be sadly missed, his memory will long be cherished and the world will be better for his having lived with us. Those left to mourn his death have the genuine sympathy of all.

William S. Fuller was born at Alben, Erie county, N.Y., June 10, 1832, and passed away at the home of his son, John Fuller, May 5, 1922, at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 25 days, after an illness of several weeks.

He was united in marriage to Lauretta C. Miller, November 10, 1860.

To this union were born five children, four boys and one girl, James Fuller and Dora Parsons having preceded him to the great beyond. His companion departed this life November 7, 1914.

He leaves to mourn his departure three sons: S.J. Fuller of Hinton, Okla., A.V. Fuller of Laverne, Okla., and J.E. Fuller of New Market, twenty grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Deceased was one of the early settlers of this county having moved to Iowa and settled on a farm south of New Market in 1869.

Uncle Billy as he was best known was of a kind and pleasant disposition, making friends with all, especially the children. He was a very patient sufferer during his last illness.

On September 23, 1863, he enlisted with Co I, 18th N.Y., volunteer cavalry, was honorably disharged at Victoria, Texas, on the 31st day of May, 1866.

He was also a member of Upton Post G.A.R. of New Market.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church May 6, conducted by Rev Fields.

He was laid to rest by the side of his late companion in Memory cemetery. New Market Herald, May 11, 1922

Obituary - Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on August 1, 1979, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home for Julie Marie Fallon, daughter of Technical Sergeant Edward John and Janice Ellison Fallon. Julie was born July 13, 1968, at the SHAPE International Hospital in Brussels, Belgium, and passed away July 26, 1979, at RAF Chicksands, England, at the age of 11 years and 13 days.

She is survived by her parents and brother, Edward Lyle, of the home. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Harold Ellison of rural Clarinda, Mrs Mildred Schell of Chester, Pa., and Mrs Floyd Ellison of Clarinda is a great-grandmother.

Julie was baptized at the First United Methodist Church in Clarinda at the age of 2 1/2 years. She attended nursery school in Clarinda and elementary schools in Summerville, South Carolina, Karamursel, CDI, Turkey, and RAF Chicksands, England. She had also lived in Ghlin, Belgium, and F.E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, Wy.

Memorial services were held for Julie at RAF Chicksands, England. The Rev Jerold Irvin of the First United Methodist Church officiated at the funeral in Clarinda. Organist was Carolyn Young and soloist was Joan Archer, who sand "Jesus Loves Me" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus". Casket bearers were Lyle Ellison, Des Price, Mike Kinser, and Charles Drennen. Obituary - Lyle Fann, 64, died Sunday at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha where he had been a patient since Thursday.

He was born May 15, 1907, at Hamlin, WV, the son of Alonzo and Willia Mae Edens Fann. His boyhood home was at Mt Pleasant.

In 1936 he was married to Edris Mason and they have six children; Allen of Atlantic, Mrs Karen Alfred of Manilla, Iowa, Mrs John (Judy) Altfillisch of Clarinda, Mrs Bill (Elaine) Bruning of Orlando, Fla, Mrs Dennis (Jill) Fain of Denver, and Randy of the home. His mother, Mrs Willia McElroy lives in a local rest home.

Mr Fann enlisted in the Army when he was 36 and had a family of four. He taught judo in the Army training corps and was credited with saving a man's life.

His interest in the American Legion and athletics were combined in past years serving as head of the district Legion baseball program, bringing one of the tournaments to Clarinda a year ago.

He was a strong booster of athletic programs in the community, one of the organizers of the Cardinal Booster club and serving as one of its first presidents for the school year of 1955-56.

Mr Fann and his wife had been operating the College Inn Dairy Sweet for the past nine years. Prior to that he was agency manager for the Des Moines Register and Tribune in Clarinda and had been employed at the Mental Health Institute.

Persons interested in giving memorials may include them in a scholarship being established at the Clarinda campus of Iowa Western Community College.

Military services will be conducted by members of Sergy Post of American Legion where he was an active member and past commander. He was also a member of the First Christian Church and served one term as deacon of the church.

Nodway Lodge 140 AF&AM will hold masonic services at the funeral home at 8 pm Tuesday with Calvin Luther acing worshipful master.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at the Walker Funeral Home with the Rev H. LaVern Kinzel officiating. Burial will be at Memory Cemetery at New Market.

Besides his wife, mother and six children, Mr Fann is survived by 13 grandchildren, three brothers, Raphael Fann of Sun Valley, Calif, Joseph McElroy of Grinnell, and Jim McElroy of Denver, and three sisters, Mrs Glen (Alberta) Burrell of Hesperia, Calif, Mrs Tom (Daisy) Moseley, and Mrs Sam (Alice) woods, both of Chicago. Farrell, Glade C. - Glade C. Farrell, son of Benjamin and Celesta Barnum Farrell was born Sept 8th 1901 on a farm in Page County and passed away at Clarinda Municipal Hospital on Nov 13th, 1971 at age 70 years 2 months and 5 days after being in ill health the past four years. He spent his entire life farming in Page and Taylor counties.

He was united in marriage to Bernice Coryl Neely on June 27th 1923. To this union was born 4 children. He was preceded in death by 2 infant children, his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife Bernice. One son Darwin B. Farrell of Shenandoah, Ia, a daughter Dorla Maye Long of Nebraska City, Nebraska, a daughter-in-law Jeanne Farrell and son-in-law Donald Long. 4 grandchildren 5 foster grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren in Heidelburg, Germany, one sister Ethel Slaight of New Market, Ia other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Walker Funeral Home Nov 15, 1971 with Rev Bill McKee of Sidney in charge. Soloist was Joan Archer, and organist was Grace Perry. Casket bearers were Gilbert "Pat" Yearous, Calvin Farrell, Max Farrell, Kenneth Farrell, Ronnie Foster and Gary Lee Beckett.

Burial was in the Memory Cemetery near New Market.

Obituary - Mrs Grace L. Farrell, 86 of Clarinda died Friday night at Atlantic where she had gone to visit her daughter.

She was born June 30, 1892, at Guss, the daughter of Homer and Minnie Smith Pershing. On Sept 1, 1929, she was married to Clyde C. Farrell who preceded her in death in 1954.

In recent years she has made her home with her daughter, Beverly Hale of Clarinda.

Mrs Farrell is survived by three children: Calvin Farrell, Clarinda, Mrs Ed (Betty) Williams, Atlantic, and Beverly Hale, Clarinda. There are eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.

Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev John Clark officiating. Grace Perry was organist. Casket bearers were: Max, Kenneth and Darwin Farrell, Gilbert Yearous, Mack Pershin, and Vincent Dukes. Honorary bearers were Rick Maca, Kenny, Bryan and David Williams and Steve Huddle.

Burial was in Memory cemetery near New Market.

Obituary - Mrs Dessie E. Fine, 92, of New Market died Tuesday afternoon, November 12, 1991 at Goldenrod Manor Nursing Home.

She was born August 15, 1899 near Greenville, Tn the daughter of Elihue and Tinnie Hunt Holland. On January 28, 1920 she was married to Ray Fine who preceded her in death in 1971. Mr and Mrs Fine farmed in the Siam area and she later lived in New Market before entering the nursing home.

She is survived by a son Eldon Fine and wife Eva of New Market, two granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren. Also suriving is one sister Pauline Sparks of New Market, three step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband, one brother, three sisters and daughter-in-law, Darlene Fine.

Funeral services will be 10 am Monday morning at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev Carl Cummings officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 pm Sunday evening. Burial will be in Memory Cemetery at New Market.

Obituary - Funeral services for Mrs Sam (Doad) Foster, 77, of New Market were held Tuesday, Oct 27, at the Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda with Clarence Potter in charge. Mrs Foster died at her home near New Market Oct 24, four weeks after the death of her husband. Interment was at Memory Cemetery near New Market.

She was a daughter of the late Jacob S. and Elizabeth Neely, born in the New Market vicinity and lived her entire lifetime in that community.

She is survived by two sons, Fay Foster of Cool, Calif., and Merritt Foster of Clarinda, and by one sister, Mrs C.C. (Jessie) Mayhew of Villisca. Bedford Times-Press, Oct 1964

Obituary - Ersa Pace Foster, daughter of Edward A. and Nancy Davison Pace, was born July 12, 1883, in New Market, Ia, and died July 7, 1957, at the home of her niece, Mrs Lucille Schuster, in Medford, Ore.

Mrs Foster spent her childhood in New Market, graduating from the New Market public school. She entered the teaching profession as a life work. Teaching in the Taylor County rural school and also in New Market and Colorado.

She united with the Church of Christ in New Market at an early age and had been an active and lifetime member. She was a charter member of Chapter 481, Order of the Eastern Star in New Market, and a member of the New Market Rebecca Lodge No 27 up until the past few months which her health would not permit. She took an active part in church, lodge and community affairs.

Nov 24, 1915, she was united in marriage to Fred C. Foster Sr at New Market. To this union no children were born. Mr Foster preceded her in death on July 30, 1947. Mrs Foster had the unusual experience of residing on the farm owned by Mr Foster at the time of their marriage where he mother, Nancy Davison Pace, was born, married and died. After Mr Foster's death she resided in New Market for ten years. During the past year her health failed and she had to step down from the active life she had previously lived.

At this point the family would like to pay tribute to Mrs Lucille Schuster for the loving care and help given Ersa in her last days.

She leaves to mourn her death one brother, Asa B. Pace; two nieces, Kathryn Pace Ferguson and Eileen Pace Minear of Los Angeles, Calif; one nephew, Frank Edward Valentine of Minneapolis, Minn, and many other relatives and friends.

Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death, namely, Harley T. Pace, Charles H. Pace, Alice Pace Love, and Myrtle Pace Valentine.

Services were held July 12 from the Walker Funeral Home with the Rev I.E. Stickelman officiating. Music was furnished by Doris Forbes and Aletha Hutchings. Obituary - Mary Priscilla Abbott, daughter of I.W. and Margaret Elizabeth Abbott was born June 4, 1868 in Salem, Iowa, and died Oct 7th 1944 at Wichita, Kans, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 3 days.

While still a small child, her parents moved by covered wagon to a farm near New Market. Here she grew to womanhood, teaching in the schools of Taylor county. In 1893 she was married to Albert Louis Gardner of New Market. To this union two daughters were born, Lura and Ruth.

After a few years in New Market, where Lura was born, the family moved to a farm near Piper, Kansas. Here Ruth was born.

After the husband and father's death near Piper, the family moved back to New Market, to be near their relatives. Mrs Gardner was in the post office at New Market for 8 years, later conducting a variety store. Later, she and her daughter Ruth lived in Denver and Boulder, Colo, and in Clay Center, Nebr for five years.

Mrs Gardner had made her home with her daughter Ruth and her husband for the past ten years, going to Wichita from Sulphur Springs, Arkansas.

She was one of a family of fourteen children, of whom four brothers survive.

She leaves to mourn their loss, her two daughters, Mrs S.L. Blackwell and Mrs V.J. Croker of Wichita; her brother, Frank Abbott of Florence, Colo; Waldo Abbott of Loveland, Colo; Aubrey Abbott of Los Olinos, Calif, and Rev A.G. Abbott of Electra, Texas; two granddaughters, Mrs W.E. Beard of Clarinda and Mrs Carl Carlock of Wichita.

Her last illness was of short duration and she passed peacefully, Oct 7.

Funeral services were held at the Culbertson Mortuary at Wichita, her brother, Rev A.G. Abbott, assisting in the services. The remains were brought to Clarinda and short services held at Memory cemetery.

Obituary - Hazel Vern Littlewood Garrison, daughter of Arthur and America Littlewood was born Sept 23, 1893, and departed from this life at the Municipal Hospital Aug 6, 1966 at the age of 72 years, 10 months, and 15 days. Her whole life was spent in this vicinity, where she will be missed greatly. Hazel was married to Walter Garrison, March 29, 1916. To this union, one daughter was born, Joan, who was the pride and joy of the Garrisons.

Mrs Garrison worked in the printing office until the daughter arrived and from that time on, she devoted her time to the care and comfort of her family. Nothing was too much work or bother if it added to the happiness of her family. She went about her work with a smile on her face, and a song in her heart.

Later in life when grandsons came along, her family circle widened and she was happy doing for them. Her motto seemed to be "Lord let me live for others," which we all know that she did. Her last words were of thoughts for others.

In March the family celebrated the Golden Wedding Anniversary of the Garrisons, lovingly planned by Joan and her family. Many friends, relatives and neighbors called to extend their congratulations. Soon afterwards Hazel's health began to fail. All was done that could be, but, the reason we can't see why someone who was so dear to us, suddenly had to go.

She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Her parents and brother, Everett Godfrey, preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Walter, her daughter, Joan, son-in-law, Max McAlpin, grandsons, Larry, Dick and Danny, a half-brother, Jim Littlewood of Fowler, Colo; a sister-in-law, Bessie Godfrey, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Obituary - Funeral arrangements are pending for G.B. (Shorty) Geer, 66 of Clarinda. Mr Geer died early Thursday morning at Goldenrod Manor where he had been a resident for the past three months.

He was born May 22, 1913, at Murray, Ia, the son of Gurdon and Josephine Bruner Geer. In 1927 the family moved to Clarinda where Mr Geer attended school and started work at Lisle Corp and followed the trade as a tool and die maker in Illinois and Arizona before returning to Clarinda five years ago.

On Dec 24, 1935 he was married to Ethel Yearous who survives.

He was a member of the Methodist Church in Mesa, Az and Taylor Lodge No. 156 A.F. & A.M. at Bedford.

Besides his wife of the home at 601 E. State he is survived by three children: Mrs Harland (Joyce) Crane, Paris, Ar, Marilyn Geer, Mountain View, Ca, and Randall Geer with the U.S. Navy. There are five grandchildren. Brothers are Marion Geer, Powersville, Mo, and Keith Geer, Medical Lake, Wa. Sisters are Frances Hendren, Silvis, Ill, Marjorie Ulbinsky, Bloomsburg, Pa, Pauline Quinton, Pala Alto, Ca, and Blanche Hile, Lincoln, Ne.

Burial will be in Memory Cemetery at New Market.

Obituary - Mrs Arthur (Hattie E.) Geer, 79, of New Market died late Tuesday night at the Municipal Hospital here shortly after being admitted.

Mrs Geer was born on the same farm where she lived at the time of her death, a mile northwest of New Market. She was the daughter of S.W. and Anna Bell Meads Ridnour and was married to Arthur Geer on Oct 4, 1915.

Besides her husband, who is a resident at West Heights, she is survived by her two sons, Ivan of Broomfield, Colo, and Bernard of New Market. She has 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mrs Bertha Harland of Clarinda is a sister.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at Walker Funeral Home with burial in Memory Cemetery at New Market. Time of the services will be decided after word is received from relatives.

Obituary - Earnie L. Glassgow, 84, of rural New Market, died Monday night at his home northeast of New Market.

He was born July 6, 1907, in Taylor County, Iowa, the son of Walter and Grace Nevil Glassgow. On February 3, 1928 he was married to Alice Ross who survives. Mr and Mrs Glassgow had lived in the same neighborhood most of their married lives.

Mr Glassgow had been active in I.O.O.F. lodge work and had served as Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment of Iowa.

Survivors include his wife Alice of the home and three children: Harold and wife Gail Glassgow of Lakeside, Ne, Mrs Dean (Helen) Derry, New Market, Ia and Mrs George (Thelma) Campbell of Maryville. Mo. There are eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Carl Glassgow of Loveland, Co and Estle Glassgow of Clarinda are brothers.

He was preceded in death by parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm, Friday, July 26, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev Carl Cummings officiating. I.O.O.F. services will be held. Burial will be in Memory Cemetery at New Market.

Obituary - Lois Glassgow, 90, New Market, Iowa died Saturday, December 2, 1995, at the Community Care Center, Clarinda, Iowa.

Mrs Glassgow was a homemaker and farmed with her husband Ray C. Glassgow, north of New Market, Iowa until his death in 1972.

She was born September 14, 1905, in Nodaway County, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas Samuel Milbank and Cloris Lisbie Van Fossson. She was preceded in death by one brother Merrill Thomas Milbank, who died October 2, 1960.

She had lived in New Market, Iowa and vicinity since 1935. Mrs Glassgow attended the New Market Methodist church for over 60 years and was active in various church groups.

She was married to Harry E. Brown. They were divorced in 1932. She married Ray C. Glassgow in September 1935.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs Phyllis L. Runion, Topeka. Other survivors are a granddaughter, Mrs Teresa Ann Barr, Topeka, Kansas; a grandson, Mr Daniel Matthew Runion, Leawood, Kansas; and four great grandchildren.

Obituary - Ray C. Glassgow, 72, or rural New Market died early Sunday at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital where he had been admitted earlier that morning.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm Aug 17, 1872, at Walker Funeral Home with Carl Cummings and the Rev. Ed Osburn officiating.

He was born June 5, 1900, near New Market, the son of Marion and Mary Hunter Glassgow. On Sept 1, 1935, he was married to Lois Milbank at Clarinda. Mr Glassgow was a well known farmer and real estate agent.

He is survived by his wife of the home and one daughter, Mrs Bob (Phyllis) Runion of Topeka, Kans., and two grandchildren.

Music was furnished by Mrs Rosevelyn Bashor and Mrs Zella Ridenour. Casketbearers were Tom Norris, Virgil Kelley, Orville Ridenour, Earnie Glassgow, Don Winger and Dale Combs. Honorary bearers were Lyle Harris, Bennie Gage, John Crawford and Frank Milhone.

Obituary - Ruth C. Foster was born in East River Township, Page County, Iowa, April 5, 1898. Her parents were Thomas Marion and Albina Frances Hebbert Foster. She was the eighth child in a family of 11 children, Martha, Herbert, Thurman, Howard, Lucretia, Homer, Jacob Bryan, Hazel, Mary and Dwight.

Her schooling was in Liggett Rural School, Clarinda High School, and Normal Training in Summer School at Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

She taught rural schools in Page, Taylor and Kossuth Counties; and city schools at Nodaway and Panora, Iowa in later years, making 20 years in the teaching profession.

It was while Ruth was teaching in Kossuth County that she met Harold F. Graham when he returned from overseas in the U.S. Army. They were married at Manning, Iowa, on September 19, 1919. They lived in Carroll, Iowa; Ida Grove, Iowa; St Louis, Mo. They moved to Des Moines and lived there for 25 years.

Two children were born to this union, Elizabeth Ruth (Betty) now Mrs Don Fitch of Boulder, Co and Richard Allen (Dick) Graham of Nevada, Iowa.

In 1946 they bought a farm in East River Township, Page County, Iowa and lived there 25 years.

The Grahams bought the present home in New Market, Ia in 1971, where Mrs Graham had her last heart attack September 14, 1979.

She leaves to mourn her passing her devoted husband, Harold; daughter, Betty, and son Dick; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Lucretia, Mrs Jack Seyfert of Somona, Ca and Mary Foster of Clarinda, Ia; two brothers, Homer of Clarinda, Ia and Dwight Foster of Clearfield, Ut.

As Mrs Graham suffered a severe heart attack in the early summer of 1969 before their 50th wedding anniversary in September of that year, no open house was planned. She was released from the hospital, apparently recovered, and resumed an active life.

She joined the Methodist church in Clarinda, in 1914 or 1915, transferring her membership - the last time to New Market United Methodist Church, where she was a faithful and active member until the time of her passing.

Mrs Graham was a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years, having joined in New Market in 1918. She was Worthy Matron of Acanthus Chapter in Des Moines, while she resided there. Quoting from her Memory Book "The friendships I have made are my most precious gifts in life".

Mrs Graham enjoyed membership in the American Legion Auxilliary; Page-Taylor Retired Teachers Association and other social clubs in New Market. She took an active part and enjoyed each and every one.

Mrs Graham put family and church first, but combined all with friends, flowers and the lovely things of life.

Her heart took a turn for the worse in 1979. Most of the time she felt her usual self - enough to help plan the 60th anniversary observance. She addressed and mailed the invitations and did other details of the plans.

On September 14 in the afternoon, she wrote lists of cards, gifts and remembrances they had received. But the heart can take just so much. We can only think now what we will. She was doing what she enjoyed. And only Our God in Heaven known the answer.

Obituary - Edith Lavanche Herriman was born in VanBuren county, Iowa, Oct 8th, 1875, and departed this life, March 13, 1970 at the age of 94 years, five months and five days. She was one of 11 children of Charley and Margaret Herriman. She ws converted at the age of 16 years and for several years served in the city mission, in Lincoln, Neb as a missionary with Ester Stahley and Phebe and Pricilla Overholt. Later continuing with her missionary work in 1900, in Elkhart, Ind with Cora Budy. In 1901 she was united in marriage to S.J. Green, and in their early marriage they lived in several communities in Nebraska, where Brother Green served as pastor, later returning to Iowa, where he passed away in Shenandoah in 1915.

To this union of Brother and Sister Green, four children were born, three sons and one daughter, Veleda Green Minard, Veleda being the only surviving child of Jay and Edith. Their first son dying in infancy, Charles and Delbert dying in young manhood. Among those left to mourn her passing, besides the daughter, Veleda, is the son-in-law, Bob Minard, who with his wife cared for her lovingly in their home, in Atchison, Kan, after she became an invalid, about six years ago, transferring her to a nursing Home in Clarinda, where she received the best of care.

She also leaves two grandsons, Monte Kay Minard and his wife Marie, Donnie Roy Green and the two granddaughters, Shirley and Linda, two great grandchildren, Deborah and Jeffrey Minard. One sister Glendora Dunkin of Gravity, Ia and two brothers, Vanzo of Carson City, Nev and Oliver of Maryville, Mo. Nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Edith lived a very useful life, serving many others, caring for the ill and elderly. After the death of her husband, she moved with her three young children, from Shenandoah to New Market, later making her home with her elderly father and caring for him unitl his death in 1927.

Her life was one of chrisianity, always helping in anyway she could in her beloved little Mennonite Church, teaching Sunday School classes for many years. All who knew Edith felt they were truly blessed in the warm friendship of her kindness and understanding of all. Clarinda Herald Journal
