Gillette, Ada Lauretta (Retta) Cree -

A Lenox woman who had a voting record that few women can match passed away Saturday at the age of 102.

Funeral services for Retta Gillette are scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 11 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in

Lenox.

Retta was born on Nov. 2, 1899. In an election 21 years after her birth, Retta voted for a presidential candidate in the

first election that women were eligible to cast a vote for that highest political position. She voted in every presidential

election from 1920 until 1992, according to information provided by Ritchie Funeral Service.

Memorials in Retta's name may be made to Sharpsburg United Methodist Church. Full obituary information was not

available by press time and will be published in next week's issue.

Gillette, Ada Lauretta (Retta) Cree -

Funeral services for Retta Gillette, age 102, of Lenox were held Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ritchie

Funeral Home in Lenox with Pastor Tim Maxa officiating. Interment was held in the Washington cemetery in Gravity.

Memorials can be directed to the Sharpsburg United Methodist Church. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie

Funeral Home of Lenox.

Retta passed away March 23, 2002.

Ada Lauretta Gillette was born Nov. 2, 1899 in a house five miles northwest of Clarinda in Page County, Iowa, the daughter

of Daniel Robert Cree and Ada Lauretta Clabaugh Cree. Just eighteen days later her mother died, so Retta was raised by

Arthur C. and Etta Clabaugh.

She lived most of her life in Taylor County. She attended rural schools to the ninth grade. On Sept. 9, 1917, she was

united in  marriage to George M. Gillette in New Market. Four children were born to bless this union: Darlene, Ivan,

Dean and Lois.

In 1920, which was the first year women were allowed to vote, Retta turned 21. She voted in every election until 1997

when she moved to Arkansas to stay with her daughter. A year later her health required her to return to Lenox, and

she lived at the Lenox Care Center.

Retta loved to play dominos and made sure the rules were always followed; this was something she enjoyed past the

age of 100. She took enjoyment in working with her plants. She had a garden where she raised grapes and pears. She

also enjoyed making jelly and canning. Retta enjoyed staying home and looked forward to a good visit with friends and

family when they stopped by.

She was a life-long member of the Sharpsburg United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish Retta's memory are a daughter, Darlene Taylor of The Woodlands, Texas; her favorite cousin, Cloyd

Pfander, age 103 of Bedford; two daughters-in-law, Doris Gillette of Danville, Iowa, and Thelma Gillette of Davenport;

16 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Preceding Retta in death are her husband George in 1972; her parents; two sons, Ivan and Dean Gillette; a daughter

Lois Ferris; three brothers, Ora, Glen and Arthur; three sisters, Rilda, Elva and Carrie; and Bertha Maley, who was

raised with Retta.

Ginn, Marjorie Keith Davidson Deal-

Committal services for Marjorie Ginn, age 82, of Lenox, formerly of Bedford, were held Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002 at

Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Ted DeHass officiating. Interment was held in the Fairview Cemetery in the

Mausoleum. Memorials can be directed to the Lenox Care Center.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

Marjorie died Sunday, February 24, 2002. She was born July 24, 1920 in rural Blockton, Iowa, the daughter of glade Orville

Keith and Geneva Gail Reece Keith. Marjorie grew up in the Bedford area graduating from the Bedford High School in 1937.

She attended Northwest Missouri State University and taught school for four and one-half years. On Nov. 29, 1942 she

married Gordon Davidson in Pocatello, Idaho. Gordon was a Captain in the United States Air Force and was killed in action

during World War II. Later she was united in marriage to Keith Deal and moved to Florida. After her divorce from Keith,

she moved back to Iowa where she met and married Paul Ginn. Marjorie attended beauty school and had a shop of her own

in Bedford for several years. She lived with her mother for a number of years before her health failed. Marjorie moved

to receive nursing care from Taylor Ridge and later to the Lenox Care Center.

Marjorie had been a member of the Berean Church of Christ and later the First Baptist Church.

Marjorie is survived by her three daughters, Karen McClintock of Jacksonville, Fla., Janet Birch and husband Richard

of Jacksonville, Fla., and Susan Gentry and husband Greg of Gainsville, Fla.; a brother-in-law J.D. Rush of Maryville, Mo.; a

sister-in-law, Dorothy Keith of Clarinda 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents, her first husband, Gordon Davidson; her second husband Keith Deal; and

a son, Allan Keith when he was only two and one-half.

Hamilton, Lowell -

Lowell Hamilton, age 91, of Lenox, died at the Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning on Feb. 11, 2002. He was

cremated; memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Iowa Natural

Heritage Foundation, Insurance Exchange Building, 505 Fifth Avenue, Suite 444, Des Moines, IA 50309.

Lowell was born Feb. 22, 1911 north of Lenox in Taylor County, the son of Melvin and Anna Wray Hamilton. He graduated

from high school in 1929 in Santa Anna, CA. The family moved to southern California in 1916; then returned in the mid 1930's to

Lenox to farm. They farmed north of Lenox in Mercer Township, Adams county.

Lowell was married to Zella Mae Blakesley Nov. 22, 1940 in Creston. To this union three sons were born; Joseph Jay died in

infancy in 1959. Neil (wife Khahn) lives in Waukee; Nathan lives at Arispe. He has 2 grandchildren.

Lowell was a member of the Creston Elk's Lodge and a lifelong Democrat. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. He was an avid

reader and engaging story teller who was known for his sharp wit and keen intellect.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Zella on March 28, 2001 and infant son Joseph Jay in 1950 and 5 siblings.

Coen-Beaty-Pearson was in charge of the service for the family.

Janky, Mima Harrison -

Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2002, at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Cromwell, Iowa with the

Rev. Blarat Surender officiating for Mima Harrison Janky of Baton Rouge, LA., formerly of Corning, who died March 10, 2002,

at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center.

Mima was born October 29, 1905, in Adams County the daughter of Louie Harrison and Mary Louise Baker Harrison.

She was married to Edward Janky and they owned the Janky Jewelry and Furniture Store in Corning until 1954. They are

parents so one son, Harry and two daughters Betty and Donna. There are four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mima was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband Rev. .Edward Janky, and family members: Claude and Edra

Harrison, Warren and Mary Harrison, Glenn and Vera Harrison and Ferne Harrison Davis.

Johnson, Pauline D Smith -

Pauline Johnson, 84, formerly of Marshalltown and Lenox, Iowa, died on Friday, January 25, 2002, at the Odessy Hospice in

Mesa, Arizona. Her passing came peacefully at 7:00 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 30 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in

Marshalltown with Fr. Bernard Grady as celebrant. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown next to her

husband Russell. Friends may call at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown from 7-9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, her

family will be present during those hours. A public vigil service will be conducted by Sister Diana Blong at 7 p.m. The family

suggests memorials may be directed in her memory to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox. The Estel-Perrin-Avey Funderal Home

has been entrusted by the Johnson family with her final arrangements.

Born Pauline D. Smith on March 11, 1917, in Cincinnati, Ohio she was the daughter and one of six children born to Francis

Austin and Louise (Cullen) Smith. She received her education in Marshalltown and graduated as class Valedictorian of St. Mary's

High School's Class of 1934.

On September 22, 1935, she was united in marriage to Russell B. Johnson at St. Mary's Church rectory in Marshalltown. The

couple resided in Marshalltown and Fairfield before 1944 when he was called to service in WWII in Toledo, Ohio. They moved

there until he went to the Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois. At this time, she returned with their children to Marshalltown.

In late 1945 after his discharge, the couple moved to Waukon where he managed the A & P Store until 1951. The couple then

moved to Humboldt to manage a Super Value Store. In 1953 the couple became owners and operators of the Super Value Store

in Lenox, Iowa, where they stayed until moving back to Humboldt in 1960.

She was also employed in the St. Mary's School hot lunch program in Humboldt. In 1974, they returned to Lenox where they

resided until Mr. Johnson's passing in May of 1998. From 1976 until 1980, she was also employed with the Sheridan Egg

Processing Plant at Lenox. In February of 2000, Pauline moved to Apache Junction, AZ to be near her daughter Peggy.

In Lenox, she was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Lenox Book Club,

The Women's Federated Club and will be fondly remembered for her love of playing cards, traveling and reading. At any and

all the communities she called home, she was a devoted and faithful member of the Catholic faith.

Left to mourn her loss are her four loving children: Mary Lou Reynolds of Traer, Ted (Sandy) Johnson of Falls Church,

Virginia, Jeanne (Larry) Fillipi of Sioux City, Iowa and Marguerite "Peggy" (Bruce) Sandven of Apache Junction,

Arizona, eleven dear grandchildren and 21 treasured great grandchildren.

In death she rejoined her husband, her parents, three brothers: Joseph (in infancy), Austin and William and sisters Marguerite

and Marie as well as her grandson J.R. Reynolds.

Larson, Barbara Lou Richey -

Funeral services for Barbara Larson, age 74, of Lenox, were held Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the United

Presbyterian Church in Lenox with Pastor Tim Maxa officiating. Interment was held in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Memorials can be given in Barbara's name. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

She passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002.

Barbara Lou Larson, the oldest daughter of Edwin and Thelma Cunning Richey, was born Nov. 13, 1927 in Clearfield.

Growing up Barb lived in Mt. Ayr, Des Moines, Clarinda and Clearfield, She joined the church at an early age. After high

school graduation she attended summer school in Creston, then taught country school until she was married.

On November 3, 1949 she was united in marriage to James(Jake) Larson in Clearfield. They lived on a farm south of

Clearfield until they moved to the farm at Sharpsburg, In August 1983, they retired and moved to Lenox, returning to

the farm in November of 1993.

Barb enjoyed doing church work, singing in the choir and attending her clubs. She also enjoyed needlework, golf, bridge,

and dances at the Chicken Inn. Sundays were spent with the Nortons and cherry-picking time with the Larsons was always a

good time. She especially looked forward to her visits with the grandchildren. Barb was a member of the United Presbyterian

Church in Lenox. She served as president of the Band Mothers along with various offices in the church.

Barb is survived by her husband Jake of Lenox; a sister, Donna Norton and husband Glenn of Lenox; a brother, Bill

Richey and wife Ellen of Florida; her children: Connie Hart and husband Mike of Alabama; Jim Larson of Lenox; Jane Hegwood

and husband Bob of Colorado; and Doug Larson and wife Teresa of Kansas; twelve grandchildren, Ashley and Jessica Hart and

Melissa Sanderson and husband Seal, all of Alabama; Zach Hegwood and wife Desiree and Jamie and Travis Hegwood all of

Colorado; Lindsay, Dustin, Clay and Troy Larson, all of Kansas; and three great-grandchildren, Mary and Marcus Hegwood of

Colorado and Destiny Ruff of Kansas.

Preceding Barb in death are her parents, Edwin and Thelma.

Barb, who always had a cheerful smile for everyone, will be missed by her many friends and family.

Lewis, Helen M Orfield Perry -

Funeral services for Helen M. Lewis of Creston were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at the First Christian Church

in Creston with Pastors Dwayne Henrichs and Byron Lamun conducting the service. Burial was in the Murray Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the family in her name. Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Helen was born June 2, 1913 at Decatur City, Iowa, the daughter of William Orfield and Georgia Culley Orfield. She

graduated from Murray High School.

Helen was married November 23, 1931 in Unionville, MO to Lawrence Fredrick Perry. On June 27, 1969 she was united in

marriage to Fred D. Lewis. Helen was a homemaker and employed as a seamstress at Snowdons lingerie factory in Osceola

for over 25 years. She has resided in Creston since 1971.

Survivors include daughters: Baunadine (Robert) Poland, Lorimor; W. Louise (Don) Driskill, Murray; Cora (Mike) Kelly,

Fisher, IL; Carolyn Morey-Romero, Adel, LA; Linda (Jack Jr.) Williams, Des Moines; Stepdaughter Laurella Scott, Denver. CO.;

brothers Clarence Orfield of Murray; Wayne (Loma) Orfield, Indianola; sister Dorothy (Raymond) Wake, Thayer; Karen

Stephens, Des Moines; 20 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 29 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, first husband Lawrence August 21, 1965, second husband Fred, January 30,

1998; Daughter Beverly M. Perry; Son Fredrick Perry; one grandson and one great-grandson, brothers Paul Orfield and

Kenneth Orfield and stepdaughter Shirley Lorimor, brother Charles Orfield and sister Fannie Orfield.

Phillips, Lillian Ester Burgess -

Graveside services for Lillian Phillips, age 77 of Bedford, who died Saturday, February 23, 2002, were held Wednesday,

Feb. 27, 2002 at the Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora, Ill. Memorials can be given in her name. Lillian is the mother of Deb

Soulsby of Bedford. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

Lillian Ester Phillips was born March 27, 1924 in Montevido, Minnesota the daughter of Robert Burgess and Myrtile Olson

Burgess. She grew up in the Brainard, Minn., area where her dad ran a fishing resort. As a young adult she moved to Aurora

where she met and married James Phillips in October of 1950.

Lillian worked as a waitress for over thirty-five years in the Aurora area. When her husband James died in 1998, her daughter

Deb moved her to the Taylor County area to be near her. She was residing at the Northridge Apartments at the time of her

death.

Lillian is survived by her daughter Debra Soulsby and husband Jeff of Bedford; a sister, Lois Burgess of Texas; a brother,

Roger Burgess of Minnesota; three grandchildren, Mike Soulsby of Stevens Point, Wis. Scott Soulsby of Amherst, Wis.; and Ryan

Lang of Aurora; and two great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Tasha of Stevens Point, Wis.

Preceding Lillian in death are her parents, her husband James in 1998, a daughter Becky in 1999, and a brother, Dean Burgess.

Reynolds, Evelyn Eunice Jeanes -

Funeral services for Evelyn Reynolds, age 79, of North Hollywood, California, formerly of Clearfield, who died February

9, 2002, were held Saturday, February 16, 2002, at 1 1 :00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield. Interment

was held in the Clearfield Cemetery. Memorials can be given in Evelyn's name, arrangements were entrusted to the

Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Evelyn Eunice Jeanes Reynolds was born in Ringgold County, Iowa on March 28, 1922. She was the youngest of twelve children

born to James Edgar Jeanes and Etta Bye Jeanes. Her aunt and uncle, Harry and Margaret Jeanes House, raised Evelyn from age

two in a home just south of Clearfield. Evelyn graduated from the Clearfield High School in 1939. In May of 1941 she was united

in marriage to Merril T. Reynolds at the United Methodist Parsonage in Clearfield

In 1947, after Merril returned from military service during World War II, they built a small house in Kelly, Iowa, just south

of Ames so Merril could attend college. They moved the family to Boulder, Colorado in 1952 after Merril was offered a job

there as a carpenter. In 1970 they decided to make another big jump to Burbank, California and finally settled in North

Hollywood in 1972.

Evelyn started working as a secretary at a college in Ames and continued that occupation until her retirement in 1985 from the

First Presbyterian Church in Hollywood, California when Merril became ill and needed her at home. He passed away in January of 1991.

She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother who adored her grandchildren.  She was a wonderful cook.  She had a

variety of interest such as collecting antique milk glass and building miniature dollhouses with Merril. She enjoyed quilting,

sewing, knitting and raising tropical birds. Evelyn took art classes every chance she could as she loved learning new things. She also

grew prize winning roses.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Richard Reynolds of Venture, California, her daughter, Linda M. Naugle and husband

Jerome of Boulder, Colorado; four grandchildren, Karen, Larisa, Lacey and Lane; and two great-grand children, Tyler and Dylan.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Merril in 1991 and all of her brothers and sisters.

Shehan, John -

Funeral services for John Shehan, age 54, of Lenox, were held Thursday, March 28, 2002, at the Lenox Christian Church.

Interment was held in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Military rites were accorded by Lenox American Legion Post

No.250. Memorials can be given in John's name. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox. He passed

away Sunday, March 24, 2002,

Earnest John Shehan was born July 20, 1947 in Maryville, Missouri, the son of Robert M. Shehan and Ethel Newkirk

Hanshaw. John grew up in the Bedford area, graduating in 1965. He entered the United States Air Force in August of 1965.

On May 20, 1967 he was united in marriage to Barbara Lillie at the Christian Church in Lenox, Iowa. The couple moved to the

Philippines where John was stationed. In 1969 they moved to Glenwood for a short time. They returned to Lenox from 1969 to

1974, moving to Albany, Missouri to live until 1981. The family moved to Austin, Texas, returning to Lenox in 1986 where they

opened and operated the Lenox Cafe until 1993 when John's health forced him to retire. After retirement he spent most of his

time raising horses. John's wife Barb passed away in September of 2001. He later met Dee Ann Thompson and they were

married March 19, 2002, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

John enjoyed playing cards, golfing and playing snooker. John's greatest passion was to be outside with his horses. He

enjoyed being around people and especially his family. He had a great sense of humor and liked to make people laugh.

John was a member of the Albany Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, the

Lenox Saddle Club, the Albany, Missouri Saddle Club and the Lenox American Legion Post No. 250.

Left to cherish John's memory are his mother, Ethel Hanshaw and husband, Cliff of Bedford; his wife, DeeAnn of

Oskaloosa; four children, Stephenie Marckmann and husband, Jim, Lenox and their children, Zach, Michael, Garret and A.J.;

Derrick Shehan of Shenandoah and his daughter, Essie; Quentin Shehan and wife Ericka of Great Lakes, Illinois; Benito

Gonzales and wife, Grizelda of Mississippi; two brothers, Steve Shehan and wife, Helen of Tunnel Hill, Georgia; and David

Shehan and wife, Vickie of Laurel, Mississippi; two sisters, Patricia Shehan and husband, John Ryan of Conroe, Texas; and

Joyce Bartles and husband, Jeff of Bedford; a step-brother, Jim Hanshaw and wife, Pat of Bedford; a step-sister, Kay

Ware and  husband Len of Florida, three stepsons, Chris Turner and wife Amy of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Nathan Groom of Ames;

and Matthew Groom of Oskaloosa; best friends, Monte Wehrkamp, Glen Fluke and Mike Lilly.

Preceding John in death were his wife, Barbara; his father Robert; a son, Scott at birth; and two sisters, Janice and Susan.

Tindle, Beulah Fern -

Funeral services for Beulah Fern Tindle were scheduled for 1 0:30 a.m. Jan. 16 at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield

with Rev. Len Garrison officiating. Wilson-Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Providing music were Patty Parrish and Carol Ann Kinder. Pall bearers were nephews Richard Riley, Randall Riley, Mark

Wilson, David Riley, Mike Ford and Ryan Wilson. Burial was in the Clearfield Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Beulah was born in Lincoln Township, Ringgold County, on March 20, 1914, to George A. and Nettie Pearl (Routh) Tindle.

She passed away in the Ringgold County Hospital on Jan. 13, 2002, at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 24 days.

Beulah spent most of her life caring for others. At an early age she helped care for neighbors, relatives and friends in

times of need. After the death of her father, she came home to care for her mother and brother until their deaths.

Having no children of her own, Beulah's nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews were her pride and joy.

She was a member of the Busy Bee Community Club and enjoyed traveling to the Tingley congregate meal site with the

Joneses. She maintained the farm home and enjoyed country life until March 2000 when she entered the Clearview Home in

Clearfield.

Survivors include two sisters, Eula Mae (husband Elvin) Riley of Lenox and Mary Belle (husband the late Marvin) Wilson of

Lenox; nieces and nephews Richard Riley and family of California, Randall Riley and family of Lenox, David Riley and

family of Lenox, Nancy Ford and family of Tingley, Anne Nette Hanson and family of Nebraska, Mark Wilson and family of

Lenox, Carol Garrity and family of Nebraska, and Robin McGary and family of Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Nettie Tindle, and her brother, G.A. Tindle.

Travis, June Bernice Wurster -

June Bernice was born to Charles and Ida Strey Wurster on June 13, 1924, in Creston, Iowa. She passed away January 9,

2002, in Colville, WA at the age of 77. A memorial service was held on January 14, 2002.

Her early years were spent on a farm near Lenox. Her grandparents, who were immigrants from Germany, had

developed this farm. She attended a one-room rural schoolhouse through 8th grade. After high school and college, she taught

school for a short while. In August of 1948, June married Ross Travis. They farmed near Lenox. Their two children, Susan and

Marion, were born during this time.

They moved to Moses Lake, Wash, in 1954 where Ross worked on construction and for a feed company. After moves to

Ellensburg and Chelan, Wash., they moved to Turnwater, Wash., in 1969 where Ross was an inspector on a dam in Centralia,

Wash. Ross was killed in a construction accident in 1970 just before Susan entered college. June now had more responsibilities

than being a housewife and mother. In 1971 they moved to Colville, Wash. to be near Sam and Alice. She has resided

at the same place for the past 30 years.

June was a member of First Baptist Church of Colville. From 1980 to 2001 June was a volunteer worker at the Columbia River

Christian Academy. She loved doing that kind of work.

June is survived by a daughter, Susan Travis of Colville; a son, Marion Travis (wife Connie) of Lincoln Neb.; a granddaughter,

Katie Travis of Lincoln; a sister, Alice Payton (husband Sam) of Chewelah Wash.; a brother, Ronald Wurster (wife

Wanda) of Lenox; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Robert J. Victor, age 86, were held at 2:00, pm Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Coen-Beaty-Parsons

Family Funeral Home with Rev Thomas Woodin conducing the services.

Robert died March 20, 2002, at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston.

Robert J. Victor was born May 6, 1915 at Creston, the son of George Matthew and Laura Mudra Victor. He graduated from

Prescott High School in 1934. December 25, 1939 he was united in marriage to Lillian Sychra. They had two sons, Jerry and

Richard. Robert was a farmer and hauled coal and livestock. He also worked as a mechanic at Allis Chalmers Implement Co. for

several years and worked for the Farmers Coop until 1969.

Survivors include his spouse Lillian of Creston; sons: Jerry (Edna) Victor; Richard (Donna) Victor both of Omaha; brother

George (Doris) of Ava, MO; sister Marjorie Schmoll of Arkansas; 5 grandchildren and several step-grandchildren, great

grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or the United Methodist Church in Creston.

Williams, Bernice C Weber -

Funeral services for Bernice C. Williams, age 90, were held at 10:00 a.m. March 23, 2002 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in

Creston with Father Leonard Kenkel conducting the service. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery. Bernice died March 20, 2002,

at Crest Haven Care Center in Creston. Memorials may be made to Holy Spirit Church or Calvary Cemetery. Coen-Beaty-Pearson

Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Bernice Williams was born May 3, 1911 in Union County north of Creston to John M. Weber and Nora Agnes Kerrigan. She

graduated from Creston High School in 1927.

Bernice was united in marriage July 12, 1965  to D.C. "Spiv" Williams in Maloy, Iowa. She worked as an assembler at Gifts

Manufacturing for over 12 years. She was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Survivors include Brothers Arthur Weber and William S. "Bill" (Vivian) Weber all of Creston; sisters Kathryn (Don)

Rasmussen of Creston and Agnes Wilson of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and Sister Irene Groves.

Wilson, Marvin George -

Funeral services for Marvin Wilson, age 89, of Lenox, were held Thursday, January 17, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the United

Methodist Church in Lenox. Marvin passed away Monday, January 14, 2002 after a short stay at the Lenox Care Center.

Interment was held in the North Cemetery in Lenox.

Memorials can be directed to the Lenox Stock & Saddle Club or the United Methodist Church. Arrangements were

entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Marvin George Wilson was born on Jan. 12, 1913 in Lenox, the son of Robert W. Wilson and Minnie A. Seibert. He attended

rural school and on Oct. 11, 1947 he was united in marriage to Mary Belle Tindle in Winterset. Their union was blessed with

four children, Anne Nette, Mark, Carol and Robin.

Marvin and Mary Belle farmed for 17 years in the Blockton area. The family then returned to the Lenox community to farm.

Marvin made many friends over 40 years while selling Hoegemeyer Hybrid Seed Com. He enjoyed watching his grandsons

show their 4-H livestock at the Lenox Calf & Lamb Show and the Taylor County Fair. He was also a St. Louis Cardinal

baseball fan and an Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan. That along with any Lenox sporting or community even kept him busy.

Marvin was one of the first members of the Lenox Stock & Saddle Club and helped at the Rodeo for more than 50 years. He

was a member of the Lenox United Methodist Church and worked on the Extension Council and served on the IMT Insurance

Board.

Survivors include his wife Mary Belle of Lenox; a son, MarkWilson and wife Cheryl, and their sons, Ryan and Jake, all of

Lenox; three daughters, Anne Nette Hanson ( husband Stan) and their daughter, Kara, all of Omaha, Neb., and son Eric of

Colorado; Carol Garrity and daughter Alaina, both of Omaha, and son Matt of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Robin McGary (husband

Steve) and their children Andrea and Brett, all of Aurora, Colo.; along with a twin sister, Maurine Strange of Creston.

Preceding Marvin in death were his parents, Robert and Minnie; a brother, Cecil Wilson; two sisters, Gladys Garver and

Mildred Wilson; and a grandson, Tim Wilson.
