was at North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, Ia.
Marge
Bennett, the daughter of John and Mabel Delay Riebschlager,
was born January 16, 1922 at Spaulding, Ne.
On
January 17, 1943 she was united in marriage to Bill Bennett at St. John's
Catholic Church in Omaha, Ne. Four children were
born
to this union. They made their home in the Lenox community for many years.
Marge was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic
Church,
Catholic Daughters of America, and the Altar Society.
Marge
is survived by her four children and their spouses: Tom and Rosemary Bennett of
Louisville, Co.; Mick and Barb Bennett
of
Creston; Linda and Richard Notz of Lenox; Judy and
Phil Cink of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 10 grandchildren,
Johnnie, Tommy, and Jason
Bennett;
Annette and Jeff Notz; Leslie and Delcey Bennett; Angie, Kristy and Michael Cink; two sisters:
Rose Michaleu of Windom,
Mn.;
Anna Kay of Nebraska; three brothers: Alfred of New Jersey; Bob of Nebraska;
and Johnny of Colorado; many nieces, nephews
and
many friends.
Marge
was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 1975; her parents; and a
granddaughter Julie Marie Cink.
Marge
died on Saturday, October 31, 1987 at the age of 65 years, nine months, and 15
days.

Frieda Boltinghouse, the daughter of George and Margaret
Stanger Trost, was born September 23, 1899 in Dettingen, Germany and entered into rest at the Lenox Care
Center on October 12, 1987 at the age of 88 years, 19 days, after several
months illness.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, October 15, 1987 at the First Christian Church in
Lenox, Ia. with Dr. Jack Cutbirth officiating.
Interment
was at West Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, Ia.
At
the age of 2, she migrated with her family to America and they settled in the
Lenox Community where she spent her entire life.
Frieda
attended the Center Country School through the eighth grade.
On
September 14, 1922 she was united in marriage to Frank Boltinghouse.
They had 28 years together until Frank's death on
January
14, 1950.
She
is survived by a sister Rose Hoerrlinger of Sheldon,
Ws.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Trost and Helen Trost of Lenox; and many
nieces,
nephews and other relatives.
Beside
her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Cook,
Pauline Morgan and Emma Woods; and three brothers, Joe, George and Harry.
Frieda
was a member of the First Christian Church and Lenox Legion Auxiliary. She had
a dairy from 1940 to 1962, and was employed at
Copeland-Wells
Produce for 10 years. She lived on the acreage in which she took great pride,
until 1976, when she moved to the
Sunrise
Apartments for two years before entering the Lenox Care Center.

Marie Wurster Brady, daughter of William and
Fredericka Lieb Wurster was
born March 8, 1906 in Taylor County near Lenox,

Anna passed away at the Clearview Home in Clearfield,
Ia. October 13, 1987 at the age of 81 years, seven months and five days.
Funeral
services were held Friday, October 16, 1987 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox with Dr. Jack Cutbirth officiating.
Interment
was at West Fairview, Cemetery, Lenox, Ia.
Anna
joined the Presbyterian Church at Clearfield at an early age, later
transferring her membership to Westminster United
Presbyterian
Church in Des Moines, Ia.
She
was a lifetime member of Acanthus Chapter 531 of the Des Moines Order of the
Eastern Star.
On
October 2, 1929 she was united in marriage to Glenn Allen Brady of Des Moines.
Preceding
her in death besides her husband Glenn and her parents were brothers John,
Albert, Herman, Frank, Walter, Carl and one

Alice and one great nephew, Dennis Wurster.
Survivors

George Dunbar, 69, of Council Bluffs, formerly of Lenox, died Saturday, October
31, 1987 at the Jenny Edmundson Hospital in

Bluffs.
Services
were held Wednesday, November 4, 1987 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church
in Lenox. Rev. Jack Cutbirth officiated with

Dunbar
was born October 2, 1918 in Lenox to Richard and Ethel Edna Dunbar. He had been
a resident of Council Bluffs for many years. He was a mail sorter at the Omaha
Mail Terminal for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Lenox
American Legion and a
veteran
of World War II serving in the U.S. Army.
Survivors
include a son, Kevin L Dunbarn of Wahoo, Ne.;
daughter, Karla L. Brown of Omaha, Ne.; four grandchildren; and two sisters,
Lenore Bailie of Lenox and Olive Sutton of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents
and two brothers.

Hetz, Fred -
Fred Hetz was born in Reiderich, Wurttenberg, Germany on March 22, 1891 to Christian
and Katharina Horz (Hetz).
He died in San Diego, Ca. on September 2, 1987 at the age of 96 years, five
months.
Mr. Hetz arrived in Lenox, Iowa in 1892 with his family. He
attended school in Lenox, worked in the brickyard for his aunt and
uncle,
Dora and Pete Fewson, and on several farms around
Lenox.
In
1910, Fred moved to Battle Creek, Michigan, where he married Claire Fellows.
Two children, Maxine Delores and Darrell Leslie
were
born to them.
In
1926, Effie Dunlap and Fred Hetz were married. They
lived in Michigan until 1945, when they moved to California, making El
Cajon
their home. Mr. Hetz was a carpenter, retiring in
1956. He and Effie traveled extensively until her illness and subsequent death
in 1973.
Mr. Hetz gave up his home in 1975 and moved to a Residential
Care Center. He taught himself to play a chord organ and spent many
hours
entertaining patients at Residential and Nursing .Centers.
He
was a caring, gentle man, loved and respected by all who knew him.
Preceding
him in death, besides his wife, Effie, and his daughter, Maxine, were his
parents; his brother, Chris Hetz, a longtime
resident
of Lenox, and 12 other brothers and sisters, six of whom died in infancy.
Survivors
include his son, Darrell L Hetz and wife, Frances of
Battle Creek, Mi.; in San Diego, two nephews, Norman and Clifford G.
Hetz,
two nieces, Donna Lou Manroe and Vivienne B. Boyles.
He also leaves his step son-in-law Archie Dunlap of La Mesa, Ca.,
and
three step grandchildren, Ila Mason of Chula Vista,
Ca., Nona Pedler of Casper, Wy.
and Doris Best of La Mesa, Ca. There are
many
surviving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, September 9, 1987, with interment in Greenwood
Memorial Park, Greenwood Mortuary
directing.

services for Dayton H. Hucke were held Wednesday,
November 4, 1987, 1:30 p.m. at Stringtown Community
Church.
Rev.
Phil Cook officiated at the service. Interment was at North Fairview Cemetery,
Lenox, Ia.
Dayton
Harry Hucke, the son of Charles H. and Rosa Mae Clark Hucke, was born on February 19, 1905 on the family
farm near Kent,
Iowa;
and he entered the rest at the Archbishop Bergan-Mercy
Hospital in Omaha, Ne. on November 2, 1987 at the age of 82 years, eight months
and 13 days.
Dayton
grew to manhood in the Kent community and attended rural school, and except for
several years following the death of his father, lived on the same farm all of
his life.
On
February 11, 1928 he was united in marriage with Thirza Drorbaugh at the home of her parents near Kent. This
marriage
was
blessed with the birth of one daughter, Marilyn.
In
addition to the death of his parents, Dayton was also preceded in death by one
sister, Helen.
Those
surviving to honor his memory are his loving wife, Thirza of Kent; his daughter, Marilyn Erickson and her husband Donald
E.
of Essex, Ia.; and their sons: Briant, Brent and
Brice. Also surviving is a half-brother, Lyle Eivins and his wife Ila of Creston;
other
relatives and many friends.
Dayton's
life centered around his family, church and friends. His friends will remember
the times he lent a helping hand without being
asked.
The members of Stringtown Community Church will
remember the fellowship of worship, and his family will always hold dear the
special
times that come from sharing together and for each other.

Roy
Daniel Kemery, son of Alonzo and Mary Adline Tackett Kemery was born
September 23, 1903 in Worth County Missouri. He
died
October 10, 1987 at the age of 84 years and 17 days. He had been a resident of
the Clearview Nursing Home since September
14,
1987.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, October 13, 1987, 1:30 p.m. at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox, Ia. Rev. Don Fisher
officiated
with interment at West Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, Ia.
He
grew to manhood in Athelstan, Iowa where he attended school and. graduated from
the eighth grade. He worked with his
father
in the Kemery Blacksmith Shop.
On
May 16, 1925 he was united in marriage at Grant City, Mo. to Katherine Dorothea
Hillers of Blockton. To this union five
children
were born: Norma, Shirley, Connie, Daniel and Rosemary.
Roy
began working for Taylor County during WPA days. In December 1942, they moved
to Lenox where he ran the County
Maintainer
until retiring in 1965.
Roy
and Katie loved going to sales and buying antique dishes. Roy enjoyed gardening
as long as his health would let him.
He
was preceded in death by his parents: Alonzo and Mary; sister Serepta (Georgia) Hillers; wife Katie; daughter Norma
James; son
Daniel
Laverne; and grandchildren Keith Raymond James, Jr. and Clara Katherine James.
He
is survived by daughters Shirley Donna Dodson of Kansas City, Mo.; Rosemary Lea Kemery of Kansas City, Mo.; Connie Mains
and
husband Gene of Sharpsburg; daughter-in-law Linda Kemery of Lenox; son-in-law Keith James of Lenox; sister Jonell Wilson and

the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Bedford.
Dewey Kirkman, son of Robert and Julia Kingsley Kirkman, was born at the home farm near Lenox, Ia. October 28, 1898 and departed
this
life on November 2, 1987 in Corning, Ia. at the age of 89 years and four days.
He
lived in Taylor County and grew to maturity here where he attended the public
elementary and high schools.
He
engaged in farming as his occupation.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and six brothers.
Left
to cherish his memory are one nephew, several nieces, several great nieces and
nephews, and several great-great nephews and
nieces.
He
was a kind and considerate man and will be missed by all who knew and loved
him. He was a hard worker, a successful farmer, and a
willing
help to anyone who needed him.

Bernice
Pearl Champion, the daughter of Leo and Rose Kraft Champion, was born May 24,
1906 in Omaha, Ne.
She
was married to Victor M. Michal on October 31, 1927 in Omaha. Five children
were born to this union. The family lived in
Taylor
County since 1940 and moved from Blockton to Lenox in
1970. Bernice was employed as attendant at the Clarinda Mental
Health
Institute for 13 years.
Bernice
is survived by four children and their spouses: Victor and Martha Michal of Mt.
Gilead, Ohio; Robert and Kay Michal of
Torrence,
Ca.; Mary Ann and Dean Weese of Lenox, Iowa; Dennis
and Patricia Michal of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 17 great
grandchildren;
two brothers: Leonard Champion of Omaha; and Edward and Ann Champion of Omaha.
She
was preceded in death by her husband Victor in 1977; her parents; a son in
infancy; and two sisters in infancy.
Bernice
died on Tuesday, November 3, 1987 at the Lenox Care Center where she has
resided for a short time. She was 81 years, five
months,
and 10 days of age.

Rainforth, Robert Dean-
Many
residents of Lenox and the Taylor County area are still stunned after a fatal
and still-puzzling New Year's Eve traffic accident that claimed the life of
Robert D. Rainforth, age 20.
The victim,
son of Gerald and Catherine Sweeney Rainforth, was
dead at the scene of the two-car accident, which occurred one mile
south
and one mile east of Sharpsburg. The accident apparently occurred after Rainforth and several friends left a New Year's
Eve party
at the rural residence of David Marshall.
Seriously
injured in the accident was Kimberly Long, 18-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Long of Sharpsburg. She,
like
Rainforth,
was a passenger in the back seat of an auto when the accident occurred. Miss
Long was transported to Mercy Hospital in
Corning
and was later transported by helicopter to Des Moines Methodist Hospital. She
suffers from a severe concussion and a
broken
cheek bone along with other less-serious injuries. Officials involved in the
investigation of the accident indicate some of Miss
Long's
injuries may be permanent in nature.
Robert Rainforth graduated from Lenox High School in 1985
and was a junior at Iowa State University at the time of his death. He was very
active in school as he participated in band, basketball, cross country and 4-H.
He is survived by his parents; brothers Larry of Lincoln, Ill.. and Paul at
home; sisters Carol Ann of Elgin, Neb., and Joan Marie of Waterloo, Ia.;
several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Miss
Long is a 1987 graduate of Lenox High School, where she was very active in
numerous groups. She is a freshman at Iowa State
University
and was a candidate for Taylor County Fair Queen in the 1987 Fair.

Rainforth,
Robert Dean -
Robert
Dean Rainforth, son of Gerald and Catherine Sweeney Rainforth, was born May 18, 1967 at Rosary Hospital,
Corning, Ia. He
died
December 31, 1987 at the age of 20 years, seven months, and 13 days, of injuries
received in a car accident southeast of Sharpsburg.
Robert
grew up on the family farm nine miles south of Lenox. He attended Lenox
Community Schools, graduating with the class
of
1985, and participated in many school activities, including band, basketball,
and cross country. He was an active 4-H member for 10
years.
Robert was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox. At the
time of his death, Robert was a junior at Iowa State University, majoring in
Agricultural Studies-Farm Operation. He was a member of the ISU Farm Operation
Club. Robert was planning to return to farming in partnership with his father
and brother, Paul, after graduation from college. He had a strong interest in
all aspects of farming and enjoyed working with the livestock and tilling the
land.
Robert
will be remembered for the joy he brought his family, his quiet wit, his good naturedness, his love of action, and his compassion
for
others. He especially enjoyed working on his pickup, motorcycling and bike
riding.
Robert
will be greatly missed by his parents, Gerald and Catherine, his brother Paul
of the home, two sisters, Carol of Elgin, Ne., and
Joan
of Cedar Falls, Ia., his brother, Larry
and wife, Helen and two nephews, Vince and Lance, all of Lincoln, Ill., special
friends of the
family,
Kim Long of Sharpsburg, Ia. and Brenda Fluckey of Arispe, Ia., as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and a
host of other relatives and friends.
He
was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents.
Services
were held Monday, January 4 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in
Lenox. Rev. Gerald Stessman and Rev.
Michael Berner officiated.
Music
was by Diane Lange and Cathy Evelsizer, organists,
and Florence Robinson, cantor. Altar servers were Mendy Sweeney,
Mollie
Sweeney, Jim Evans, and Robbie Evans.
Casket
bearers were Kreg Parkhurst,
John Friedrichson, James Anderson, Frank Nook, Lyle Maynes, and Wayne Riley.
Honorary

John
Roe, 64, a former Lenox resident, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 1987 in
Jameson Hospital, New Castle, Pa.
John
was a well known electrician in the Ellwood City - New Castle, Pa. area, where
he made his home for the past 40
yean.
He served as Ellwood City Borough electrician from February 1976 to April 1982.
He also worked at the former Mathews
Conveyor
Co. in Ellwood City, and currently was a self-employed electrical contractor.
Death was due to pneumonia.
John
was born July 19, 1923 in Lenox, Ia. to the late Jess 0. and Mary Cipra Roe, and graduated from Lenox High School in 1940.
He
was a veteran of World War II, serving in the. U.S. Navy in the European
Theater.
He
was married to the former Mildred Davis of Harrisville, Pa. in 1945, who
survives him at 4451 Ellwood Road, New Castle, Pa.
John
was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church of Ellwood City where he had served as
a trustee, deacon and elder. He also
belonged
to the M & M Sunday School class of the church
Surviving
in addition to his widow, are a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Kathy Roe, a
daughter and son-in-law, Susan and
Don
Summa, and two grandsons. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Grace Alexander
of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Marge Paton of
Reinbeck,
Ia., Mrs. H.B. (Bonnie) Ridgley of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Reldon (Doris) Key of Lenox, Ia.; and two brothers, Dean Roe of
Stuart,
Ia. and Gene Roe of LeMars,
Ia.
Funeral
services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 1987 at the Harold J.
Marshall Funeral Home in Ellwood City, conducted
by
the Rev. Robert Hines, pastor of Calvin Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Wolf
Creek Cemetery, Slippery Rock, Pa.

Scudder, Howard Lee -
Howard
Lee Scudder, second son of Oliver M. and Lela (Campbell) Scudder was born
August 30, 1913 in Washington County, Brentwood,
Arkansas.
He went home to be with the Lord on October 30, 1987 at the age of 74 years and
two months.
In
1930 Howard moved with his family to Prescott, Ia. During the Depression years,
he joined the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps)
where
they built farm ponds, bridges, roads, etc. as the government directed. After
this he became a farm hand for the Edwin
Butlers,
who were cattle feeders near Lenox. During this time he married Irene Ross.
Early
in the 1940's, Howard and Irene and their children, Marietta and Kenny began
farming with the Butlers in partnership on a farm
north
of Lenox. In 1947, they purchased their first farm near Woodland, Ia. Since
Howard had only received a fourth grade education, one of his greatest desires
was for his kids to have a high school diploma. He made a very firm demand that
each one work hard to earn this diploma. They were taught not only to work
hard, to follow orders, have respect for older folks, but to be kind, patient
and helpful. All the family respected and loved Howard and his wishes very
much.
In
the fall of 1968, Howard attended an evangelistic meeting in the East Woodland
Church with Evangelist Sammy Valentine. He
was
saved at one of these nightly meetings and Irene rededicated her life to the
Lord. Later that fall, they both followed the Lord in baptism in the chilly
waters of the Nine Eagles Lake.
Irene
became very sick and during the last year of her life, many of the Wednesday
night prayer meetings were held in their
home
west of Woodland. Irene passed away on May 14, 1970.
On
April 15, 1972, Howard married Dorothy (Andrew) Martin. After a short time,
they moved from the farm to Leon where
Howard
worked as a maintenance worker at the Leon Care Center and the Leon Hospital
until he had open heart surgery on May 27, 1981 at Iowa Methodist in Des
Moines.
After
recuperating, he puttered around the house and yard and always managed to get
in his two mile walk each day. In October and
November,
1984, he had hip replacement surgery on both hips. Dorothy has been a very
helpful and devoted wife, waiting on him
and working
hard to meet his needs.
Preceding
him in death were his parents; a sister, Jessie; a brother, Harry.
Surviving
are his wife Dorothy; daughter, Marietta Warren and husband Charles of Garden
Grove; a son, Kenneth and wife, Joan of
Weldon;
stepchildren: Leland Martin and wife, Nan of Orion, D.; Gary and wife, Marcia
of Leon; Darrell and wife, Joan of Rapids

So. Da.; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Chuck Warren and wife, Marilyn

Howard

services were held April 21 at the Greenfield Lutheran Church for Irene
Christina Tilk, 57, of rural Lenox, who died
April
19 at her home. The Rev. C. Droegemueller officiated
and burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery.

were Paul and Martin Herr, Gene Tilk, Olin Perdew, Robert Erke and Earl
Whetstone.
Honorary
pallbearers were Alfred Tilk, Donald Clayton and
Larry Dahl.
Born
Feb. 19, 1929, Mrs. Tilk was a daughter of John and
Christina Ehm Herr of Fontanelle.
She
and Wayne Tilk were married Sept. 18, 1949, at Fontanelle and resided in the Greenfield area before moving
to the Lenox
community
a year ago.
She
enjoyed playing the organ, sewing, quilting, crafts and baking.
She
leaves her husband, Wayne of the home; two daughters, Jeannette Perdew of Conway and Kathy Erke of Salt Lake City, Utah;
two
sons, Duane Tilk of Lenox and Myron Tilk of Osceola; three brothers, Gilbert Herr of Fontanelle, and Walter and William Herr,
both
of Greenfield, and two grandchildren.
Her
parents, one sister and one brother died previously.

Vincent, Ferne Gladys Nevius -
Ferne Gladys Vincent, daughter of Jason and Alta Monehan Nevius was born in Taylor County, Iowa near Gravity on
February 3, 1897.
She
died December 23, 1987 at the Lenox Care Center, Lenox, Ia.
When
she was a small child Ferne moved with her parents to
a farm near Bedford where she attended school. Later she taught
several
years in rural schools.
On
May 1, 1920 she was united in marriage to Virgil Vincent. To this union was
born one daughter, Helene. They lived on farms near
Bedford
most of their married life.
Ferne was active in church work and enjoyed her neighborhood club. In 1963 on account
of Virgil's illness, they moved to Lenox to be
near
their daughter and family.
Ferne was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, her parents Jason and Alta Nevius and a brother-in-law, Allen Smoldt,
husband
of
her sister Ruth and many aunts, uncles and cousins who were very dear to her.
Survivors
include her daughter and husband, Helene and Ernie Campbell, a sister Ruth, a
granddaughter Susan Tuhrmeister of
Coralville,
Ia.; grandson Bill Campbell, wife Diane and great grandchildren Erin, Josh and
Ron of Lenox.
Ferne was a longtime member of the Bedford Methodist Church and a member of the
Methodist Women's organization in Lenox.
Ferne will be missed by her family and friends.

Williams, Melvin LeRoy -
Funeral
services for Melvin LeRoy Williams were held Tuesday,
December 1, 1987 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox
with Dr.
Jack Cutbirth officiating. Interment was at North Fairview
Cemetery, Lenox.
Melvin LeRoy Williams, the son of Herbert and Tura Young
Williams, was born March 2, 1910 on a farm southwest of Lenox in
Taylor
County. He entered into rest at his home in Lenox on November 28, 1987 at the
age of 77 years, eight months and 26 days.
Melvin
grew to manhood and attended rural school through the eighth grade and attended
Blue Grove Church in Taylor County.
On
March 29, 1930 he was united in marriage with Bertha Milliken in Creston. This
union was blessed with the birth of three children:
Norma,
Dorothy, and Bill.
He
farmed all of his life until retiring in 1976. Melvin had a vibrant personality
and zest for living which netted him a large
circle
of friends. He took great pride in his farming and was dedicated to his family.
He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Glen, and a brother and sister
as infants. He will be greatly missed by his wife
Bertha
of Lenox; two daughters, Norma and Marvin Reed, and Dorothy and Howard Stoaks, all of Lenox; son Bill and wife Nancy of
Omaha,
Ne.; five grandsons, Stephan Reed and wife Jacqi,
Jeff Reed and wife Carla, Gary Stoaks and wife
Teresa, Kurt Stoaks, and
Kevin
Williams, granddaughter Susan (Reed), Miller and husband Dan. Also surviving
are, nine great grandchildren, Troy, Crystal, Trever
and
Jody Reed, Jacob and Amber Miller, Dawn, Alicia and Shane Stoaks,
and one sister, Bernice Brown and husband Skeeter of
Branson, Mo.; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
