Beck, Henry George -

Funeral services for Henry Beck, age 102 of Lenox, were held Saturday, August 4, 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist

Church in Lenox with Pastor Don Frizzell officiating. Interment was held in the Clearfield City Cemetery. Memorials can be

directed in his name. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Henry George Beck was born Sept. 7, 1898, the son of Johannas Beck and Katerina Stanger Beck. He was born

southwest of Lenox. He passed away on August 2.

Henry completed school through the eighth grade. He was married to Laura Baker in 1922. To this union one child, who

died in infancy, was born. He later married Pearl Baker on Dec. 22, 1927 in Mt. Ayr. To this long lasting union five children

were born. Henry and Pearl lived on the family farm all of their married life until moving to Taylor Ridge estates last

November.

Henry was involved in Roosevelt's Hog and Corn Program in 1933 - an AAA farm program. As township committeeman,

his job was to count hogs and measure corn.

Henry loved helping with farming after his retirement. Flowers, apple trees and politics were just a few of the loves of

his life.

He joined Calvary Methodist Church as a young man and later transferred to Lenox United Methodist Church, where he

faithfully attended and was Sunday School superintendent for many years. He was school board director of county school

Platte No. 5.

Henry is survived by his wife Pearl of Lenox; a son Reldon (wife Margaret) Beck of Las Cruces, N.M.; three daughters,

Vaunceil (husband Lowell) Brott of Clearfield; Marilyn Wren of Indianola, and Carolene (husband William) Walter of

Indianola; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Preceding Henry in death were his parents; his first wife Laura; an infant at birth; a twin son, Melvin; five brothers,

Adolph, Will, Charles, John and Daniel; five sisters, Lena, Rose, Flora, Mary and Emma; and son-in-law Max Wren.

Brown, Grace Geneva Edwards -

Funeral services for Grace Brown, age 98, of Lenox, who died Friday, June 22, 2001 were held Monday, June 25, 2001 at 2

p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox with Pastor Tim Maxa officiating. Interment was held in the West Fairview Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Lenox Care Center or the American Cancer Society.

Grace Geneva (Edwards) Brown, 98, was born May 9, 1903 and passed away June 22, 2001, at the Lenox Care Center.

Along with her parents, Charles and Clara Edwards and seven brothers and sisters, Grace moved from a rural area of

southern Indiana to Adair, Iowa, where her parents purchased and operated the Adair Hotel for several years. In 1924 Grace

met and married Eddie Brown in the Adair area. Eddie and Grace were blessed with three sons and one daughter.

The family lived in the Sharpsburg and Lenox area for many years where Grace was happy to be a stay-at-home mom and farm

wife. She was a devoted Christian, dedicated wife, and loving mother and grandmother. Grace enjoyed caring for her family,

cooking, and cleaning.

A few years after losing her loving husband of nearly 64 years, Grace entered the Lenox Care Center in Lenox, where she

spent her remaining years under the kind and caring staff of the Center.

Family remaining to remember this her are sons Robert (Bob) and wife Kathlyn Brown of rural Lenox; Darrell and wife

Shirley Brown of Lenox, daughter Clare and husband Dean Davis of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter-in-law Susie Brown, wife of the late

Darwin Brown of Rolla, Mo.; a brother-in-law Dale Brown of Harlan; a sister-in-law Nora Belle Edwards of California; 18

grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Clara Edwards; sisters Lillian and Emma; brothers Noble, Bill,

Bob, Graham, and Henry; husband Eddie; an infant son, and son Darwin.

Clark, Betty L Meyers -

Funeral services for Betty L. Clark of Jefferson, Iowa, formerly of Boone, were held August 11 at the Schroeder-

Walter Funeral Home in Boone with Rev. Art Anderson officiating. Burial was in Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone.

Betty was born Nov. 11, 1930, in Boone to Raymond Joseph and Eunice Marie (Sawyer) Meyers and passed away

August 8,2001, at her residence in Jefferson.

Betty graduated from Boone High School. She was a nurse aide for more than 30 years, working at the Boone County

Hospital, the Eastern Star Masonic Home of Boone, and the Jefferson Manor of Jefferson.

She was married to Russell B. Clark on May 25, 1953, at Chillicothe, Mo. She was member of the First Baptist Church

of Jefferson. She enjoyed reading and collecting porcelain dolls.

Survivors include son William (Kim) Clark (wife Terry) of Jefferson; daughter Karen S. Anderson (husband Mark) of

Boone; daughter Lori A Wilson (husband Mike) of Lenox; nine grandchildren; Stephanie, Stacie, Amanda and Andrea Clark of

Jefferson, Ryan and Eric Anderson of Boone, Ali, Taylor and Hunter of Lenox, sister Beverly J (husband Clifford) Kirkman

of Boone.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Eunice M Meyers.

Eggert, John Wesley -

John Wesley Eggert, the son of Raymond and Glenna (Frame) Eggert was born June 11, 1949 in Lincoln, Neb. He

died suddenly from injuries sustained in an accident in Red Oak, Iowa on June 27, 2001, at the age of 52 years and 16

days.

John was raised in Clearfield and attended Clearfield High School. He was baptized and confirmed in the Clearfield

United Methodist Church.

He entered the United States Air Force on Feb. 14, 1968 and served in Vietnam, being discharged on Sept. 12, 1971.

He moved to Red Oak in 1971 and started to work for Rogers Plumbing and Heating, where he worked for 22 years.

He was united in marriage to Juanita Johnson on July 22, 1978. To this union was born two sons, Michael and Andy.

John went to work for the City of Red Oak in the Street Department in 1993. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge

#2715, which he was currently serving as president. He was also a member of the Montgomery County Court of Honor

and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. in Creston.

John was preceded in death by his father and a son Michael on June 30, 1 993.

John is survived by his son, Andy Eggert and his fiance, Heather Moore of Red Oak; his mother, Glenna Eggert of

Clearfield; a brother, Bill Eggert of Red Oak, and other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held Saturday, June 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak.

Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, The Rev. Frank Schultz officiated at the service. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce

Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hayes, L Glenn -

Funeral services for L. Glenn Hayes, 82, were held at 11 :00 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2001, at the Holy Spirit Catholic

Church in Creston. Father Leonard Kenkel was in charge of the services

L. Glenn Hayes was born July 23, 1919, in Lenox Iowa to Mortimer S. Hayes and Emma D. Page Hayes. He graduated

from Lenox High School in 1938. He was united in marriage July 9, 1940 at the St. Patrick's Catholic church in Lenox to

Helen G. Miller. To this union 4 daughters and 4 sons were born.

Glenn worked as an engineer for CB & Q and Burlington Northern Railroad for 41 years. The family lived in Creston

where he also sold Studebaker cars for many years. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, formerly a

member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the United Transportation Union and the Brotherhood of

Locomotive Engineers.

Survivors include his wife Helen, daughters Jacki (husband Bill) Gephart of San Diego, CA; Anita (husband Dale)

Thomas, Creston; Betty Ann (husband Dick) Baker, Creston; Mary Lynn (husband Arlin) Beemer, Mason City; sons David

Hayes, San Diego, CA.; Bill (wife Janet) Hayes, Creston; Mark Hayes, Creston; [?naie] )wife Virginia, Creston, 32

grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers Frank, Otto, John and George Hayes, and 5 sisters, Grace

Mullin, Blanche Paul, Mildred Lininger, Ruth Neuhardt, and Lucille Hudson.

Jackson, Douglas E -

Douglas E. Jackson, 62, of Yellville, Arkansas died Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at his home.

He was born in Creston, Iowa, to the late Everett A. and Thea Jackson (Haering) on August 10, 1939. He moved to

Lenox in 1952 and graduated with the class of 1957 He was a Yellville resident since 1963 after serving in the U S Navy. He

was retired at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Reed) Jackson of Yellville; daughters Leslie Morton of Yellville; Regina Mallett

of Mountain Home, AR; Valerie Shipman of St. Joe, AR and Jodie Harden of Fayetteville, AR; a brother, Gordon Jackson of

Yellville; a sister, Paula Sink of Lenox and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services for Pauline L. McAuley, age 79, of Afton were held June 28 at Morgan Cemetery in Kent with

Rev. Lucretia Parks officiating. Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Pauline was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Taylor County to John Edgar Gardner and Nina Belle Arthur.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Leavitt Beckett, Clifford Barnhart Sr., and Ray F. McAuley;

infant son Ronald; and brother Lloyd Gardner.

She is survived by sons Cliff "Bud" (wife Patty) Barnhart of Essex; Ron Barnhart of Clarinda; and Neil Barnhart of

Clarinda; daughters Alice (husband Gary) Beebe of Kent, Kay (husband Robert) Winter of Knob Noster, Mo., Evelyn

McAuley of Dearborn, Mo., Susie (husband Lenny) Mysiewiez of Knob Noster, and Elaine (husband Clark)

Bolinger of Sharpsburg; brothers Eldon "Boots" Gardner of Creston; brother-in-law Leo McCauley; sisters Darlene Porter

of Anaheim, Cal., Betty Cooper of Council Bluffs, Doris Williamson of Creston, Gladys (husband Robert) Strange of

Diagonal, and Klina (husband Jack) Thompson of Creston; sister-in-law Agnes Summerfield of Chuluta, Fla.; 31

Parker, Kenneth Archibald -

Funeral services were held Monday, August 27, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the United Church of Diagonal for Kenneth Archibald

Parker, who died August 22, 2001. Officiating was Rev. Karen Garrison. Burial was in the North Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Kenneth Archibald Parker was born January 8, 1936 near Diagonal, Iowa to Archie and Ruby Frazier Parker and

departed this life at Ft. Dodge, Iowa on August 22, 2001.

He grew up near Diagonal where he attended the country schools. On December 11, 1955, he was united in marriage to

Sharon Pantry at Lenox. They farmed around Lenox and Diagonal before moving to Humboldt in 1975. Kenneth and

Sharon were blessed with four children, sons Ted and Kirk and daughters Diana and Teresa.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on car motors and just being outdoors. He also very much enjoyed time spent with

kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters Nadine Hall and Marcia Lett; and brothers Calvin and Alvin.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife Sharon of Humboldt, sons Ted and wife Brenda Parker of Cherokee, Iowa and Kirk

and wife Bridget Parker of Des Moines; two daughters, Diana and husband Paul Ford of Des Moines and Teresa Staver of

Des Moines; grandchildren Caty Hoeppner, Chelly Strahmann, Carrie Parker, April Parker, Kirk Parker Jr., Nick Parker, Jason

Parker, Amy Parker, Crystal Claude, Kasidy Ford, Jennifer Staver, Jessica Staver, Justine Staver, Jacinda Staver and Philip

Staver Jr.; and five great grandchildren, Brady Freeburg Hoeppner, Brookelyn Hoeppner, Kamie Crum, Brittney

Reason, Lucille Bradley -

Lucille Reason, 88, of Alburnett, formerly of Lenox, died Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar

Rapids, following a short illness.

Services were held August 20 at Alburnett United Methodist Church by Rev. Fred Darbonne. Graveside

Committal Services were held August 21 at North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Survivors include her children, Juanita Reed and husband Don of Alburnett and Richard "Bud" Reason and wife Gay of

Charleston, S.C.; Three brothers, Larry Bradley and wife Lois of Lenox, Felix Bradley of Washington and Bernard Bradley

and wife Hazel of Jeffers, Minn. three sisters, Ruth Rupert of Lenox, Virginia Rembold and husband and Jerry of Ft.

Mohave, Ariz., and Theresa Wheeler of Auburn, Wash.; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great

grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother Robert Bradley.

Lucille was born June 13, 1913, the daughter of Emmett and Bertha Kruger Bradley in rural Union County near Kent.

On Nov. 7, 1932 she married Ralph Reason in Maryville, Mo. He died June 9, 1979.

Lucille was a member of the Alburnett United Methodist Church. Lucille was the link between several five-generation

families. She looked forward to making quilts for babies and weddings. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and board

games, and cooking and baking.

A memorial fund has been established in memory of Lucille.

Robinson, Lloyd (Bud) -

Lloyd "Bud" Robinson, age 88, passed away on August 12, 2001, at the Edinburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in

Edinburg, Texas.

He was born in July 25, 1913, to Corinne and Blaine Robinson in Clearfield, Iowa. He married the former Loretta

Hobbson June 18, 1947.

Lloyd was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a Japanese prisoner of war for 3 1/2 years. He received manly

medals during his nearly six years of service.

In 1975, he retired from CF&I Steel in Pueblo, Colo.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Loretta; a sister, Pauline Cunningham, and a brother, Floyd, both of Tucson,

Ariz.

Military services will be held in Iowa at a later date.

Loretta resides at 533 Tangerine, Edinburg, Texas 78539.

Schoenhair, Raymond -

Graveside services were held at the West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox for Raymond Schoenhair, 86, at 2 p.m.

August 22, 2001, by Rev. Dwayne Henrichs. He died at the Afton Care Center August 18, 2001. Coen-Beaty-Pearson

Family Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Raymond was the son of John and Barbara Rath Schoenhair and was born January 3, 1915 in Taylor County. He graduated

from Lenox High School and formed until his health failed him at an early age.

Survivors are a sister Dora Harper of Imperial, Nebraska, and Margery Schoenhair of Omaha, Nebraska.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Spicer, Lauretta Frances Bates -

Funeral services for Lauretta Spicer, age 89, of Panora, formerly of Lenox, were held Sunday, August 12, 2001 at the

United Methodist Church in Lenox with Pastor Don Frizell officiating. Interment was held in the North Fairview Cemetery

in Lenox. Memorials can be given in Lauretta's name. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Lauretta Frances Spicer was born August 30, 1911 in Williamstown, Kansas, the daughter of Fred Bates and Sadie

Jones Bates. She died August 8, 2001 .

Lauretta's father died when she was only 20 months old and soon after she and her mother moved to Lawrence to live with

her Grandmother Jones. In 1919 Lauretta moved to Iowa after her mother's marriage to Rev. Evan Stroud. They lived in

several Iowa towns including, Carson, Red Oak, Lenox, Farragut and Redfield. Lauretta graduated from Lenox High

School in 1928 and from Iowa State University in 1932.

On Sept. 1, 1935 she was united in marriage to Marion J. Spicer in Red Oak. To this loving union four children were

born, Duane, Doug, Marjean and Genelle. Marion and Lauretta operated Spicer Drug in Neola from 1938 until they moved to

Lenox in 1948 when they purchased the First National Bank of Lenox.

Lauretta was active in the Lenox United Methodist Church as a 50-plus year member, as well as the United Methodist

Women. She was also a fifty-year member of the P.E.O., Eastern Star, M.F.C. and H.S. She enjoyed sewing and knitting

having made Christmas stockings for all of her grandchildren along with quilts for all her children and grandchildren.

Lauretta is survived by her four children, Duane Spicer and wife Joyce of Panora; Doug Spicer and wife Jean of Atlantic;

Marjean Moyle and husband Jim of Des Moines, and Genelle Thompson and husband Richard of Winterset; two brothers,

Charles Stroud and wife Joyce of Des Moines; and Robert Stroud of Rancho Viejo, Texas; eleven grandchildren LeAnne,

Julie, Shelly, Jason, Cindy, Mike, Greg, Blaine, Wendy,Tetsy and Mark; and seven great-grandchildren Kari, Josh, Jordan,

Brady, Ryan, Cole and Conor; along with many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Lauretta in death were her parents Fred and Sadie Bates; her step-father Evan Stroud; husband Marion in 1986;

and two step-sisters Alice Dunbar and Virginia Chandlee.

Spoonemore, Harvey (Bud) Benjamin -

Funeral services for Harvey "Bud" Spoonemore, age 86, of Lenox, who died Wednesday, July 11, 2001 were held

Saturday, July 14, 2001 at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox with Pastor Don Frizzell officiating. Interment was

held in the North Fairview Cemetery. Memorials can be given in Bud's name.

Harvey "Bud" Benjamin Spoonemore was born June 23, 1915, the son of Benjamin Franklin Spoonemore and Mary

Margarette Hufnagel in Taylor County, Iowa. He grew up southeast of Lenox, attending rural school to the 8th grade. He

later helped his Uncle George Hufnagel on the farm.

After his marriage to Lela Miller on January 17, 1934 in Corning, the couple moved to Lenox. Bud and his brother

Harry raised minks for several years. He went to work for Charlie Morris at Skelgas. He later worked for Dan Carlisle in

Creston selling cars.

In the early 1950's he started a Snapper Lawn Mower Shop in Lenox, which he operated until 1980 when he retired.

Bud enjoyed his retirement. Whether he was traveling to Branson, Colorado, or the Iowa State Fair, he could always be

found enjoying life. Bud had a weekly routine of traveling to certain towns on certain days. When in Lenox his daily routine

consisted of going to the Tiger Den, then Huntington Repair Shop, then stopping at the bar to see Karen and then home for

potato soup. He had a passion for cars and motorcycles, having owned forty-eight new cars over his lifetime, and Harley

Davison motorcycles since 1931. He enjoyed country music and played guitar in a band with his brother when he was

younger.

Bud is survived by his wife Lela of Lenox; two daughters, Patricia Bassett and husband Dean of Humboldt, Iowa; and

Karen McKee of Lenox; three grandchildren, Terry Swanson, Kayla Bassett and Toni Will; and seven great grandchildren,

Jayme Williams, Brett Swanson, Tierra McKee, Arielle Swanson, Mitchell McKee, Tyler Swanson and Ely Will.

Preceding Bud in death were his parents, Benjamin and Mary; two brothers, Glenn and Harry Spoonemore; four sisters,

Nellie Harper, Ruby Dow, Faye Ingram and one in infancy, a grandson,  Stoney McKee and a son-in-law, Gary McKee.

Spring, Roy -

Funeral services for Roy Spring of Corning were held at 10 a.m., June 20, 2001. Burial was in the Methodist Grove

Cemetery, Adams County. Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service of Coming was in charge of the service.

Roy was born June 24, 1913, the son of Cora Belle Roberts and John Godlip Spring in Corning. He was united in

marriage to Maravene Maude McCoy Feb. 24, 1934 in Creston. To this union two children were born, Keith and

Donna. His life was spent farming in Adam County. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Corning.

Survivors include his son, Keith and wife Annette Spring of Mokena, IL and daughter, Donna and Robert Briggs of

Clarinda; sister, Margeleen and Ed Naven of Lenox, sister-in-law, Winnie Spring of Lenox, 5 grandchildren and 4

great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Maravene in 1988, two brothers, Clyde and Glenn Spring.

Whitmore, Beverly Jane Bailey -

Beverly Jane Whitmore was born Sept 6, 1921 to Rolley and Maude Bailey in Diagonal, Iowa. She passed from this life

on August 22, 2001 at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

When Jane was five the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where they lived for a short time. The family then moved to

Clearfield where she attended school. She graduated from High School in 1940.

For a short time Jane worked in Ephrata, Wash, and lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Wado Bush.

After a time she returned to Iowa and attended AIB Business school in Des Moines, after which she worked for Standard Oil

Co. She didn't enjoy living in the city so Rolley asked her to return to Clearfield and work for him at State Savings Bank.

Jane and Burton Paul Whitmore were united in marriage May 23, 1946. She was preceded in death by three infant

children, her husband Burton Paul, parents Rolley and Maude Bailey, a sister Margaret Bush and brothers M.Z. and Dick

Bailey.

She is survived by three sisters, Lorraine Roode of Camas, Wash., Bernadine Cooper of Denton Texas, and Charlene

Marsh or Aransas Pass, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

Jane was very involved in various church activities of the United Methodist Church of Clearfield. She loved helping

people and also volunteered at the meal site for Senior Citizens where she became the site manager. She also held an office in

the Iowa Aging Coalition.

Funeral services were held August 24 at the. United Methodist Church in Clearfield with Rev. Len Garrison

officiating. Organist was Maralene Longfellow. Casket bearers were Bob Bailey, Paul Roger Whitmore, Rodney Straight, Max

Whitmore, Mark Herring and Dave Driskell. Interment was at Clearfield Cemetery.
