Funeral services for Harold Beck, age 86. of Lenox were held Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000
at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox with Pastor Tim Maxa officiating.
Interment was held in the West Fairview Cemetery. [Died Oct. 11, 2000]
Memorials can be given in his name. Services were conducted by Ritchie Funeral Home
of Lenox.
Harold Byron Beck was born Dec. 25, 1914, in the rural Lenox area, the son of J. George
Beck and Ida E. Wiand Beck. Harold attended rural schools, and on Feb. 7. 1937, he was
united in marriage to E. Deloris Douglas on her parent's farm in Cromwell.
Harold was a life-long area resident, moving from his birthplace southwest of Lenox
to the George Wurster farm east of town in 1921. After school, Harold started farming
with his father. After his marriage to Deloris, the couple moved to a farm southwest of
Lenox far a few years, and they moved a short distance to the current home place.
Harold enjoyed the outdoor and had a great love for farming. With the help of his
father and grandfather, he dug by hand one of the first tile lines in the area.
He was born into the congregation of the United Presbyterian Church and was a member
for over 50 years. He was active in various neighborhood card clubs.
Harold is survived by his daughter, Elaine Grantham and husband Dwight of Atlantic;
a sister, Velda Putnam of Creston; a half-sister, Wilma Matthews of Delavon, Wis.; two
grandchildren, Becky Mortenson and husband Daniel of Madison, S.D., and Brian Grantham
of Kansas City, Mo.; and two great-great grandchildren, Grant Mortenson and Autumn
Mortenson.
Preceding Harold in death were his wife, E. Deloris Beck in 1999; his parents, George
and Ida; a sister, Mildred Haag; a half brother, Leonard Beck; and a stepbrother, Lyle
Slader.

Darst, Hilda M Lyddon -
Hilda M Darst was born August 9, 1924 to Elzie and Hazel (Grace) Lyddon on the farm
south of Clearfield. She departed this life on August 31, 2000 at the Clearview Home
in Clearfield.
She lived all her life in and around Clearfield, graduating from Clearfield High School
with the class of 1942. She then taught in the rural schools.
Hilda married James Darst on August 15, 1943 in Maryville, Missouri. JoAnn joined
their home in 1960 at the age of eight and Misty in 1975.
She belonged to the United Methodist Church, was a 50 year member of the Eastern
Star, the Entrenous Bridge Club, and the Library Board.
Preceding Hilda in death were her parents, a sister Helen Roudybush and a niece
Betty Roudybush.
Left to mourn her passing are her husband James, Clearfield; daughter JoAnn
Rogers of Clarinda, granddaughter Misty (husband Shawn) Fenton of Creston and
great grandchildren Shelby and Richard Burgess.
Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield, Sunday,
September 3, 2000 Officiating was Rev. Alan Rusk. Musicians were Marlene
Longfellow, and Kathy Nelson.
Casket bearers were Gaylan Bell, Jerry Brown, Kenny Nelson, Gary Roudybush,
Brian Roudybush, Neil Shimer; Honorary Pallbearers were: Paul Brown, Lowell
Brott, Kevin Roudybush, Darwin Sollars.
Hilda was laid to rest at the Clearfield Cemetery in Clearfield.

Hewitt, Ray -
Funeral services for Ray Hewitt, age 95, of Lenox were held Tuesday, November
14, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lenox with Pastor Don
Frizzell officiating. Interment was held in the West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.
Memorials can be given in his name or directed to the Lenox United Methodist
Church.
Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.
Ray Charles Hewitt was born August 25, 1905 northeast of Lenox, the son of
Charles W. Hewitt and Edith Butler Hewitt.
Ray was a life-long area resident. He attended country school and two years of
high school in Lenox. Ray was united in marriage to Beatrice Denhart
on November 24, 1926 at the United Methodist Parsonage in Creston.
Ray and Beatrice lived and farmed the land where he was born. He was active with
his livestock both cattle and hogs. He saw many changes in the farming industry
over the years, but was progressive and open minded when it came to change.
Ray always kept busy, enjoying the outdoors and helping family and friends
whenever the need arose.
Ray was a devoted husband, caring for his wife for over eighteen years prior
to their moving to the Taylor Ridge Estates five years ago. While there
he still kept up on the agriculture markets, and any changes in the farming
industry. He was known to have a great memory and loved to share stories
with those around him.
Ray was a member of the Prairie Star Presbyterian Church where he had
served as Elder and Sunday School Superintendent. When the church closed
Ray and Beatrice became members at the United Methodist Church in Lenox.
He was a former Trustee for the Grant Township Election Committee in Adams
County.
Ray is survived by his son, James Hewitt and wife Lois of Lenox; two daughters,
Virginia Davis and husband Keith of Huntsville, Alabama; and Phyllis Ferguson
and husband Dale of Atlantic, Iowa; three sisters Lucille Shawler, Irene Wurster
and Helen Blazek and husband Gene, all of Creston; ten grandchildren; twenty
great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Preceding Ray in death are his wife Beatrice in 1998; his parents, Charles and
Edith; a brother, Ralph Hewitt and a sister and her husband, Velma and
Orville Bentley, who were killed in a car accident, and brothers-in-law Orville
Shawler and Russell Wurster.

Kabel, Richard E -
Dr. Richard E, Kabel of Moody, Ala., passed away April 26 following an extended
illness. Burial was in Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Moody.
Dr. Kabel was a 1943 graduate of Lenox High School and later graduated from
Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He was board certified in
hearing instrument sciences. Most recently, he along with his wife Terri operated
Leeds Total Health Care in Leeds, Ala., and the Hearing Care Center in Birmingham,
Ala. His son, Ryan E. has continued to operate the Hearing Care Center.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Dewayne Kabel, who died in 1984.
Earl and Gertie Kabel owned and operated K&B (Kabel & Barker) Grocery along with
Kenneth and Doris Barker.
Dr. Richard (Dick) Kabel returns to Lenox often and attended many of the Lenox
High alumni gatherings. Both Dick and his sister Joann Kabel Ceilings treasured
their memories of growing up in the Lenox community.
Richard was born July 25, 1925, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Earl and Gertie Ellen Kabel.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Terri; sons Ryan of Birmingham, John of
Moody, and Richard Jr. of Minnesota; and his mother, Gertie Ellen Kabel of Cedar
Rapids.

Larson, Alberta Lee Turner -
Services for Alberta Lee Larson were held August 23, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. in the
Christian Church in Clearfield, Iowa. Rev. Eydie Stephens officiated. Music was
presented by Jean Huffman and Carol Ann Kinder.
Alberta Lee (Turner) Larson, daughter of Douglas and Mayme (Lee) Turner was
born July 21, 1922 on a farm near Bedford, Iowa. She departed this life at the
Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa on August 21, 2000 at the age of
78 years and one month.
She graduated from Clearfield High School in 1940, then attended college in
Maryville, MO. Alberta taught country school for several years, either walking
or riding her horse to work.
On Dec. 24, 1943, Alberta married Phillip W. Larson at the Methodist Parsonage
in Clearfield, IA. witnessed by their special friends, Hazel and Darwin Sollars.
To this union three children were born: Phillip Lewis, Gregory John and Janice Kay.
Alberta was actively involved in their farming operation southwest of Clearfield
until they moved to town in Nov. 1974. Taylor County has been her home her
entire life.
Alberta was a member of the Christian Church and spoke often of the many fond
memories she had teaching Sunday School. She was also a member of the American
Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Entrenous Bridge Club and was a Girl Scout leader.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Doug and Mayme Turner, one brother,
Doyle Turner, and infant sister, one grandson, Chad Larson; her mother-in-law and
father-in-law, Mary and Jim Larson; her stepmother-in-law, Jackie Larson, two
sisters-in-law, Alora (Bailey) Peterman and Marguerite Thalacker; one brother-in-law,
Robert Larson.
Alberta is survived by her husband of 56 years, Phil; her children, Lewis and wife
Martha; Greg and wife Jeanie; Janice Mobley and husband Glen; her grandchildren,
Will, Robby and Shaun Larson; Angle Miller and husband Brian; Brandon Larson and
wife Debbie; Wyatt Mobley and finance, Josie Stephens; Elaine and Melonie
Mobley; her great grandchildren, Zackary, Morgan, and Brooke Miller, DeMarcus
Rife; sister-in-law, Yasuko Turner, brother-in-law Jake and Barb Larson; brother-
in-law, Weldon Thalacker, uncles and aunts, Tom and Irma Larson and Cecil and
Helen Uglow and many nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
Casket bearers were: Wyatt Mobley, Melonie Mobley, Brandon Larson, Robby
Larson, Elaine Mobley, Angie Miller, Will Larson and Shaun Larson. Honorary
Pallbearers: Marjorie Barry, Lavon Brown, Dorothy John, Marilyn Schlapia, Verla
Dean Taylor, Charlene Brott, Hilda Darst, Mickey Routh, Hazel Sollars and Luella
Wilson.
Alberta was laid to rest in Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield, Iowa.
Wilson-Watson and Armstrong were in charge of the funeral.

Meek, Evelyn Marie Bownes Sickels -
Funeral services for Evelyn Sickles Meek, age 75 of Blockton, who died Tuesday,
Sept. 5, 2000 were held Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at 2:00 p.m. at the United
Methodist Church in Bedford with Pastor Ruth Melick officiating.
Interment was held in the Athelstan Cemetery. Memorials can be given in her name.
Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.
Evelyn Marie Sickels Meek was born June 1, 1925 in Worth County, Missouri, the
daughter of Frederick Aaron Bownes and Susie Christine Lantz Bownes. At the
age of eight her family moved to Athelstan where she attended school, graduating
from high school at the age of fifteen.
Evelyn then worked for Cudahys Packing Plant for one prior to attending teacher's
college. She taught country school for two years. On May 17, 1944, she was united
in marriage to Lyle W. Sickels in Bedford. Evelyn stayed at home raising her family
until Rosalyn entered kindergarten. She returned to teaching where she eventually
earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1964; her Master
of Arts Reading Specialist K-12; Consultant, College Level in 1972 at Northwest
Missouri State University. Evelyn was an educator, specializing in elementary reading,
for thirty nine years. She taught in Athelstan, Blockton, Conway and Bedford
communities, retiring in 1992. Evelyn was a strong believer in the power of
education and was extremely proud of her four grandchildren who have chosen
careers in elementary education and a granddaughter who is a Child Care Provider.
In 1984, Lyle passed away, and on January 18, 1997, she was united in marriage to
Bud Meek in Bedford. The couple lived in Blockton. Evelyn was a member of the
Bedford United Methodist Church for almost 40. years having been involved as a
Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, active in Bible School and many church
circles and activities. Evelyn was an active community member involved as President
and Vice President of Delta Kappa Gamma; P.E.G.; Order of Eastern Star, where she
was Warden and Past Offices of Marshall, Chaplain, Warden Ruth, Martha; Pat
Marshall and Warden of Rebekah's; Secretary, President, Treasurer and District
Committee of the B.P.W.; member of the Bedford Lioness; on the Audit Committee
of the American Legion Auxiliary; past President of the Evening Circle and Church
Women United; the Inter-Church Council; the JT Club-Crafts; Secretary of the
19th Century Club; a volunteer at the Historical Society; delivered Meals on Wheels
and in 1975 was awarded the "Woman of the Year" award by the local Business and
Professional Women's Club.
Always one to continue with the educational beliefs, Evelyn was involved as past
President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Bedford Community Education Association;
the International Reading Association for Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa during the
regional meetings; was a substitute teacher for many years as well as a home tutor;
was past President, Vie-President, Secretary and Treasurer for the PTA; was
Director and Teacher for the Summer School Program for reading and math;
Co-author of the MAGIC Program (Meaningful Activities for Growth in
Comprehension) to which a state grant was given; in 1976, she was listed in
"Who's Who of Educators" as an "Early Childhood Educator"; and was selected
by Southwest Iowa Reading Association to represent the Association as Iowa
Reading Teacher of the Year.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Bud of Blockton; two daughters, Rena Christine
Searl and husband Steve of Bumsville, Minnesota; Rosalyn Maxine Cummings and
husband Dr. Jim Cummings of Bedford, a daughter-in-law, Pat Sickels Lessner of
Omaha, Nebraska; a step-son Jim Meek and wife Heidi of Bedford; a sister,
Maxine Carroll of Bedford; five grandchildren, Trisha Sickels, Carla Christensen,
Christan Searl, Jeff Cummings and Steven Searl and two great grandchildren,
Alisha and Matthew.
Preceding Evelyn in death are her first husband, Lyle, in 1984; a son, Roger Lyle

Nelson, Barbara Louise Krohmer Roberts -
Funeral services for Barbara Nelson, age 73, of Sharpsburg were held Friday,
Sept. 8, 2000, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sharpsburg
with Pastor Al Rusk officiating. Interment was held in the West Fairview
Cemetery in Lenox. Memorials can be given in her name. Services were
conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.
Barbara Louise Nelson was born Sept. 14, 1926 in Clearfield, the daughter
of John Krohmer and Mae Bolte. Barbara grew up in the Lenox/Clearfield
area graduating from the Lenox Community High School. On Dec. 23, 1944
she was united in marriage to Paul Roberts in Lenox. She had worked for
over twenty-six years for the Coming Hospital, retiring in 1987 after
her marriage to George Nelson on March 8, 1987, in Sharpsburg.
She was very active in her church and community and enjoyed entertaining
her friends and family. Barbara was an excellent cook.
Barbara and George could always be counted on to prepare the coffee twice
a day at Spring's General Store in Sharpsburg where they were always ready
with a story to share with their many friends who stopped in.
They enjoyed attending country music shows and attending the Bolte Family
Reunions.
She was a member of the Sharpsburg United Methodist Church and a former
member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Barbara is survived by her husband, George of Sharpsburg; four children,
Loretta Sewell and husband Sonny of Norman, Oklahoma; Becky White of Fallon,
Nevada; Rick Nelson and wife Lin of Lenox; and Kris Palmer and husband Dean
of Rice, Virginia; and a brother, Don Krohmer and wife Pat of Des Moines;
twenty-one grandchildren, Michael Sewell, Lisa Helsloote, Jason Sewell and
wife Sara, Amy, Jon, Zac, and Rebecca Sewell, Kimberly White, Jill Glynn and
husband Thane, Ben Nelson and wife Jennifer, Jason, Matt and Stephanie
Harbour; thirteen great-grandchildren, Holden, Joie and Evan Helsloote,
Dylan and Justin Bonnell, Kaden Sewell, Bailly, Payton and Jacey Glynmn, Tate,

Overholser, Helen Irene Fredricksen -
Helen Irene Fredricksen Overholser, daughter of Andrew and Anne Soudek Fredricksen
was born June 16, 1908 in Schuyler, Neb., and departed this life as we know it Sept. 3,
2000 at the Clearview Home in Clearfield at the age of 92 years, 2 months, and 18 days.
On Nov. 8, 1928 Helen was united in holy matrimony to Stanley Clayton Overholser in
Creston, Iowa after having been childhood sweethearts. Together they lived on various
farms around Diagonal until moving into town in 1962. Helen and Stanley then worked
together for the next six years operating the telephone exchange in Diagonal until
manual dialing was installed.
Helen was a member of the Christian Church in Clearfield.
Helen and Stanley are parents of four daughters; Barbara Ellen Tjaden (husband
William) of Titonka, Iowa; Bessie Ann Austin (husband Eddie) of Diagonal; Betty Lou
McCombs (husband Delbert) of Knoxville, Iowa; and Bonnie Belle Fletcher (husband
Ed) of Diagonal.
Preceding Helen in death are her husband, parents, one granddaughter, one great
grandson, one infant at birth, three brothers, one sister, and one brother-in-law.
Surviving her in death are her four daughters; nine grandchildren; Randy Tjaden
and wife Lisa of Titonka, IA., Terry Ng and husband Wing of Kansas City, Mo.,
Mike Austin and his wife Vicki of Sauk Centre, Minn., Dixie Baker and husband
Bruce of Audubon, Becky Stamps and husband Steven of Diagonal, Lyle Turner
and wife Liz of Santa Fe, CA., Terry Oye of Knoxville, IA., Tenlea Reyes and
husband Alex of Knoxville, IA., Britt Fletcher and wife Lisa of Red Feathers,
Colo., and Shawna Fletcher and Roy Davenport of Diagonal.
There are also 19 great grandchildren, Stephen, David and Jacob Tjaden, Allyson
and William Ng, Shane and Kerry Austin, Amy Schultes, Kykne and Jason Stamps,
Brandy Starmer, Braden Westfall, Tashi and Trevin Oye, Justin and Tate Davis and
Dillon, Aaron and Megan Davenport, ten great great grandchildren; Melissa Austin,
Taran, Adam, and Miranda Austin, Devin and Amber Westfall, Devin, Cede, Megan
and Brooke Starmer; three sister-in-laws; Vyletta Schott of Waukesha, WI.,
Doris Fredricksen of Creston, Leona Overholser, Clearview Home, Mt. Ayr, in
addition to many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Christian Church of Clearfield, on Sept. 6,
2000. Officiating was Rev. Eydie Stephens. Music was provided by Mrs. Claire
Newton and Curt Turner. Casket bearers included Richard Hammond, John
Whittington, J.P. Whittington, Billy Bently, Charles Morris, and Clint Whittington.
Honorary pallbearers were; Randy Tjaden, Wing Ng, Mike Austin, Steven Stamps,
Bruce Baker, Terry Oye, Lyle Turner, Alex Reyes, Britt Fletcher and Roy Davenport.
Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Diagonal, Iowa.
Memorials were directed to the Christian Church, or Union Cemetery.

Funeral services for Viola L. Pullen, age 82, of Lenox were scheduled for
Wednesday, October 4, 2000 at 10 a.m. at the Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family
Funeral Service in Lenox with Pastor Tim Maxa officiating. Interment will
be in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.
Viola L. Pullen was born February 9, 1918 at Hopkins, Mo., and departed this
life September 29, 2000. She was the daughter of Frank New, Jr. and Leatha
Blake.
Viola grew up in Hopkins and on March 4, 1938, she was married to Clifford
E. Pullen. To this union four children were born, Rita, Carolyn, Diane and David.
They started their married life on farms southwest of Lenox where they
raised their family. In 1972 they retired and moved to Lenox, where she
resided until ill health forced her to enter Clearview Homes in Clearfield.
Viola had a love for gardening and flowers. She also had a love for company;
many of the relatives would spend their weekends or vacations on the farm.
Viola is survived by her children, Rita Shepherd and husband J.D.; Carolyn
Day and husband Ted; Diane Spring and husband Larry; Dave Pullen and wife
Charlene; 8 grandchildren, Sherri Bolinger and husband Pat; Connie Hancock
and husband Dan; Christina Robb and husband Kevin; Brian Day and wife Robyn;
Troy Spring and fiance Sherri, Pam Spring; Melissa and Ashley Pullen; 12 great
grandchildren, Melissa, Ryan, Adam and Jennifer Bolinger; Brandi, Nathan and
Kari Hancock; Nicole, Derrick and Caleb Robb, Tyler and Kyle Day; sister
Melba Dawson, brother Robert New and wife Charlotte; brother-in-law Max
Pullen plus special friends Bob and Roberta Lockhart, Mable Neuhardt plus

Preceding her in death were her husband Clifford E. Pullen in 1973, her

Robinson, Lulu May Smith -
Mass of Christian Burial was held for Lulu May Robinson on August 23, 2000,
10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox with Father Dan Siepker
officiating. Interment was held at the East Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Services
were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.
Lulu May Smith Robinson, the oldest of five children, was born on May 1, 1897,
at Sharpsburg, Iowa, to Annie Laurie (Hamblin) Smith and Charles Smith and
entered into rest August 20, 2000, at the Lenox Care Center.
Lulu had the good fortune to live in three centuries and was the oldest living
resident in Taylor County.
When she was fourteen years of age, her father died and since she was the
oldest, she sacrificed her education to help support her younger brothers
and sisters. For six years she worked in the Sharpsburg Post Office as assistant
Post Mistress and in the newspaper office. On January 21, 1919, she was united
in marriage to Mark Robinson at St. Patrick's Rectory in Lenox. To this union was
born five daughters, Dorothy, Arlene, Helen Jean, Norma, and Marjorie. The couple
made their homes on farms in the Bedford/Conway area, then retired to Bedford
in 1962. In 1970 they moved to Lenox to be closer to their daughters.
Mr. Robinson died May 21, 1976, after celebrating fifty-seven years together.
Lulu then lived alone in her own home until the age of 101 years when she went
to the Lenox Care Center. She was an avid reader, liked needlework and
gardening, and enjoyed all people, always having a good word for everyone.
Her family was her pride and joy. When entertaining visitors she would always
show them her "Brag Board" where all the family pictures were displayed. Lulu
remained alert, and her keen memory for remembering people's birthdays and
other facts always amazed her acquaintances. She would often say, "God has
been good to me."
Preceding her in death were her parents. Annie and Charles; her husband
Mark; two sisters, Mary Beemer and Nellie Rogers; two brothers, Dr. Philip
Smith and Donald Smith; three sons-in-law, Kenneth John, Wyatt Grimm, and
Kenneth Morris and two infant great-grandsons.
Her survivors include her five daughters, Dorothy John, Arlene Grimm, Helen
Jean Morris, all of Lenox; Norma Cobb, of St. Joseph, Missouri; and Marjorie
Sanders and husband Bill of Norwalk; thirteen grandchildren; thirty four great
grand-children, and sixteen great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces,
nephews, and friends.
Lulu's grandsons served as pallbearers during the August 23 service. They are
Lewis Morris, Todd Morris, Hal Porter, Gary Christensen, Kelly Cobb, Chris Cobb,
Roger Maharry and Al Heaberlin.

Funeral services for Irma Mae Shrimpton were held at the Christian Church in
Clearfield August 24, 2000 at 1:30 p.m. Officiating was the Rev. Eydie Stephens.

Ralph Briggs and Kenny Bolinger.
Irma Mae Shrimpton, the daughter of George and Naomi Adams Peach, was born
May 8, 1932 at Bedford, Iowa. She passed away suddenly at Clearview Home in
Clearfield, Iowa on August 21, 2000 after being a resident there for just one
week.
Irma graduated from Bedford High School in 1950. Later that year, she married
Marlin Shrimpton at Bedford. They lived in Villisca, IA for 11 years before moving
to Clearfield.
Irma worked at Hy-Vee Grocery for 2 years before embarking on a 37½ year career
at Clearview Home in Clearfield. Irma was a Nurses Aid for most of the time, but in
later years, she worked in laundry. Irma retired on May 1, 2000. Irma will be known
as a very caring person. She cared for the residents of Clearview, the fellow
employees and she cared very deeply for her family. She provided for and loved
her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter. Irma was an avid bowler,
bowling until her health prevented it. She loved country music and enjoyed going to the
jam sessions.
Irma was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Merlin Kevin in 1968; 2
brothers, Clark and Alan Peach; and a sister, Vera Taite.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband Marlin of Taylor Ridge Estates
in Lenox, IA; her children, Linda Anderson and husband Chet of Clearfield, IA;
Marlene Barren and husband Steve of Las Vegas, N.V.; Rhonda Stryjewski and
husband David of Brayton, IA; Norman and wife Mitsuyo of Aurora, CO; Lori
Beggs and husband Gene of Council Blurts, IA; Marvin of Clearfield and Kimberly
Jackson and husband Troy of Council Bluffs, IA; 11 grandchildren and 1 great
granddaughter; 2 brothers, Paul Peach of Clearmont, FL and Glen Peach of
Allenton, MI; 6 sisters, Marjorie Raynor of San Diego, CA; Louise Herzberg
of Clarinda, IA; Dorothy Linkins of Bentonville, AR; Wilma Campbell of Clarinda,
IA; Donna Overman of Sidney, IA and Marilyn Arrick of Missouri Valley, IA; as
well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of dear friends.
Casket bearers were: Terry Anderson, Travis Anderson, Chris Ambrose, Tracy
Anderson, Troy Jackson and Cliff Briggs. Honorary pallbearers were the
Clearview Staff. Burial was in Memory Cemetery at New Market, IA. Wilson-
Watson and Armstrong were in charge of services.

Spring, Dorothy Mary McLean -
Funeral services for Dorothy Mary Spring, age 90, of Lenox were held August
22, 2000 at the Roland-Powers Funeral Home in Corning with Rev. Ken Rummer
officiating. Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Corning.
Dorothy passed away on August 20, 2000, at the Lenox Care Center.
She was born on Dec. 24, 1909 at Cromwell to George and Sarah Margaret
Purviance McLean. She was educated in the Cromwell schools. On Oct. 2, 1938,
she married Earnest Harold Spring.
Dorothy was a homemaker and worked many years in the Corning School lunch program.
She was a lifetime resident of the Adams County area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away on Nov. 13, 1993; her
parents; a brother George; sisters Mable and Sarah; and two nephews.
Survivors include daughters Helen Louise (husband Adrian) Blake of Gravity and
Harold LeRoy (wife Linda) Spring of Sharpsburg.

Stillinger, Fred -
Graveside funeral services for Fred Leroy Stillinger, age 91, of Lenox who died
Oct. 31, 2000, at the Clearview Home in Clearfield were held at 11 a.m. Thursday,
Nov. 2, 2000, at the Brooks Cemetery, Brooks, Iowa with Pastor Jim Miller
officiating. Memorials may be given to the Lenox Christmas. Lights.
Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.
Fred Stillinger was born May 1, 1909 in Brooks, Iowa, to Ernest and Louise
Walters Stillinger. He grew up in the Brooks area where he attended rural schools.
He was married to Jessie Heimke in Yorktown, Iowa, in 1931. The couple resided
and farmed in the Stringtown area for many years.
Fred sold his equipment and livestock and retired from farming in 1975.
In 1990, he sold his farm and moved to Lenox where he lived until he entered
the Clearview Home in 1997.
Fred was a true farmer, taking great pride and care in his livestock. Being
active in the community was a big part of Fred's life. He served on the Grant
Township election board, Lenox School Board, Lenox American Legion, Farmers
Service Coop, Lake Icaria Board, was a 4-H leader, was active in charitable
drive health organizations and very involved with the functions of the
Stringtown Church.
Of all his activities and interests, Fred enjoyed his family the most with
a particular fondness of his two granddaughters, Katie and Klaire.
Left to cherish his memory are his son Ed Stillinger of Grand Island, Neb.;
two granddaughters, Katie Stillinger of Jupiter, Florida and Klaire Stillinger
of Des Moines; two sisters Esther Murdock of Corning and Bernice Loving and
husband Delmar of Seward, Neb.; brother, Cliff Stillinger of Austin, Texas
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Louise; his wife Jessie
in 1974; a sister, Edna Berry and two brothers, Ivan and Clyde Stillinger.

Walter, Nell Griswold -
Nell Walter, 94, of Lenox died September 22, 2000, at Alegent Health
Mercy Hospital in Cording following a period of ill health. Services
were Monday, September 25 at the United Methodist Church in
Lenox with the Rev. Donald Frizzell officiating. Burial was in the North
Fairview Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist church in Lenox.
Mrs. Walter was born August 10, 1906 in Madison County to Orville and
Mabel (Kivett) Griswold. She lived in Macksburg during her early
years and graduated from Creston High School in 1926.
On June 14, 1928, she married Harry Walter in Des Moines. They
farmed near Diagonal from 1937 to 1944 before moving to Lenox, where
they lived until her death.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and several bridge
clubs. She was a Past Matron of Eastern Star.
Survivors are son Jake (wife Margo) of Southborough, Mass., daughter
Patricia (husband Arlan) of Lincoln, Neb., 13 grandchildren, 17 great-
grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1970, a
daughter Barbara in 1983, two sisters and six brothers.

Wurster, George Frederick -
Funeral services for George Wurster, age 80, of Lenox were held Friday,
Nov. 3, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Church in Lenox with
Pastor Dena Vittorio officiating. Interment was held in the West Fairview
Cemetery.
Memorials can be directed to the Lenox Christian Church.
Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.
George Frederick Wurster was born Nov. 10, 1919 on a farm near Clearfield,
Iowa in Taylor County. He was the son of William and Fredericka
Lieb Wurster. He attended country school in the Clearfield area.
George married Dorothy Marie Swank May 17, 1941 at the Lenox Christian
Church. They moved to their farm home east of Lenox in 1946 after George
completed his service in the United States Navy during World War II.
George devoted his life to their grain and livestock farm for nearly forty-five years.
He and Dorothy took great pride in their family and their farm. Together they
enjoyed traveling, camping and time with family and friends.
For many years George was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved woodworking
and tending his vegetable and flower gardens.
He was an active member of the Lenox Christian Church.
George is survived by and will be greatly missed by his three daughters, Beverly
Ratliff and husband Allen of Dahlonega, Georgia; Carol Trost and husband Mike
of Lenox, and Susan Schroder and husband Kirk of Johnston, Iowa; five
grandchildren, DeeAnne Major and husband Joel; Todd Ratliff and wife Liz; Joe
Trost; Amy Kenny and husband Shawn and Aaron Schrader; two great
grandchildren, Trey and Dani Doering; a sister-in-law, Letha Wurster; along
with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding George in death are his wife Dorothy; his parents, William and
Fredericka; six brothers, John, Albert, Herman, Frank, Walter and
Carl; and two sisters, Alice and Anna; and one great-nephew, Dennis Wurster.
