Barker, Erla Louise Hegwood -

Erla Louise (Hegwood) Barker was born April 1, 1908 on a farm in Taylor County, Iowa, near Lenox, to Alia and Josephine (Gordon) Hegwood. Erla passed from this kife on October 2, 1998 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 1 day.

She graduated from Lenox High School in 1926, taught country school in Taylor County for one year, and worked a short time for the

Lenox School. She joined the Blue Grove church, and later the First Christian Church in Lenox.

Erla was united in marriage with Jesse Barker on October 21, 1929 in Bedford, Iowa. Four children were born to this union.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse; daughter, Linda Hogan White; two brothers; one sister; two sons-in law; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and three cousins, Verlee Wilhite, Kathryn Hickey and Russell Hegwood.

Survivors include her son, Donald (Maralyn) Barker; two daughters, Beverly Hogue and Wilma Hayes; a son-in-law, Nealon White; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hegwood; and brother-m-law Ellis (Lula) Barker.

Grandchildren are: Barbara Rauch, Sandra O'Riley, and Steven, children of Donald; Rickey, Mark, Randy, Matthew, Debbie Walley and Christine Hinshaw, children of Beverly, Jeff, Cathy Hall and Russell, children of Wilma; Lory Patterson, Michele Phelps, Melissa

DeWitt and Denis Hogan, children of Linda Hogan White. There are 48 greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews who survive.

Elliott, Mearle I Beadel -

Mearle I. Elliott was born September 24, 1913 in Taylor County, Iowa. She was one of three daughters of Earle P. and Vesta (Gould) Beadel. She attended and graduated from Lenox High School.

Mearle was united in marriage in 1937 to Henry Lynn Elliott in Kennett, Missouri. To their union was born a son Dennis Lynn.

Mearle was a homemaker and also worked as a receptionist at a doctor's office for awhile. Except for a brief time, she was a lifelong

resident of Taylor county.

Mearle died September 5, 1998, at the Lenox Care Center at the age of 84 years, 11 months, 19 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a twin sister Pearle Byers.

Mearle will always be cherished by her son Dennis Elliott and his wife Gwen of Topeka, KS and granddaughters: Katie and Kristine Elliott; a sister Marjorie Williamson and husband Curly of Mountain Home, Arkansas, a niece Sandra Smith and her husband

Leonard of Blockton and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held Monday, September 7 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton with Rev. Scott Marcum of the Blockton

Christian Church officiating. Visitation was held at Coen- Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox prior to departing in procession to the cemetery.

Those serving as pallbearers included Dennis Elliott, Leonard Smith, Rick Smith, Reldon Key, Verl Wynn and Vance Nelson.

Memorials may be directed to Taylor Ridge Estates or Lenox Care Center Activity Department.

Gravett, Abigal Mae Pettis Drummins -

Abigal Mae Pettis Drummins Gravett was born at Grant City, Mo., June 2, 1893 to Frank O. and Mary A. Pettis and departed this life July 24, 1998 at Lincoln County Care Center, Troy, MO. She was baptized at the Christian Church in Grant City, MO at a young age.

Mae was united in marriage to Harrison Benjamin Drummins in November 1909 at home at Pleasant View Farm, Grant City, MO. Harrison preceded her in death at age 40 on February 14, 1930.

On July 4, 1931 Mae was united in marriage to John Allen Gravett at Shenandoah, IA. To this union were born two daughters, Ruth Elaine Gravett who died on July 16, 1942 and Deloris Mae Bear of Lake St. Louis, MO. John Allen Gravett preceded her in death on June

1, 1956 at age 74.

Mae was a member of the Mt. Ayr Christian Church. She resided with her husband in the farming communities near Bedford and Clearfield, IA. In 1951 they retired to Mt. Ayr, IA where Mae resided until failing health at the age of 89, she moved to the St. Louis area to be near her daughter Deloris and family and watch her grandson Allen grow up.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Deloris Mae Bear and husband Ramon of Lake St. Louis, MO, grandson Allen Lee Bear and wife Wanda of Mountain Home, Idaho, step-daughter Cecyl Fazel of Santa Rosa, CA, two step granddaughters Mary Lynn

Carlile and Kathy Daniels of Santa Rosa, CA.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands, daughter Elaine, Stepson James Melvin Gravett of Beverly Hills, CA, two brothers Alphonso P. Pettis and Frank O. Pettis, Jr., sister Lillie Pettis and several half brothers and half sisters and a niece Leta Golf, all from

Grant City, MO and a cousin Ada Gibson of Worth, MO.

Mae had seen progress from the horse and buggy to travel in outer space and lived through the adversity of two world wars. She received birthday greetings from the White House, governors and congressmen. She was congratulated by the nursing home and her doctor by setting a record as the oldest resident and patient.

Services were held Monday, June 27, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr, IA with the Rev. Bill Gardner officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Malcolm Eighmy and Harry Weber.

Casket bearers were Allen Bear, Max McGehee, Ted Bear, Dick Simpson, L. Banks Wilson, and Dr. Duane Mitchell.

Interment was in the Grant City Cemetery at Grant City, Missouri.

Wilson-Watson and Armstrong was in charge of the arrangements.

Harvey, Jean Marie Worthington -

Jean Marie Harvey was born November 15, 1916 at Maloy, Iowa to Eddie and Anna (Baxter) Worthington.

Jean was united in marriage to Forrest "Pete" Harvey on June 11, 1938. To this union two children were born: Sanford and Kathleen. Together they famed near Clearfield and raised their children in a loving and caring environment.

Jean enjoyed her home and was not one to venture too far from the farm. She always maintained and cared for her garden even after she and Pete moved into Lenox in 1987. Jean enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with her family. Jean was very proud of her family and

enjoyed updating people she knew with pictures of them. Jean loved poetry and she read and loved her Bible, being able to quote scripture from it.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clearfield.

Jean fought a strong and courageous battle with cancer and went home to be with her Lord on September 29, 1998 at the age of 81 years.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law Joe Winfree and three sisters, Madge Nelson, Pauline Wise and Edwilda Coursey.

Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory is her husband, Forrest "Pete" Harvey of Lenox, her son Sanford Harvey and his wife, Madeleine of Orange, VA and her daughter Kathleen Callison and her husband, George of Creston, IA, four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, one great granddaughter and three step great grandchildren, two sisters, Mildred Saville of Mount Ayr and Gail Rothmeyer of Dallas, TX, as well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, October 2, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield, IA with the Rev. Alan Rusk and Rev. Tim Maxa officiating.

Music was provided by Barb Scott and Kathy Nelson.

Casketbearers were Darin Winfree, Michael Harvey, Rick Callison, Christopher Harvey, Galen Modlin, and James Saville.

Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery at Clearfield, IA.

Heimke, Ruby Nadine Fletcher -

Ruby Nadine Heimke was born on June 27, 1917 at Preston, Missouri. She was the daughter of David Tandy and Sophronia Caroline (Strieker) Fletcher.

Ruby had lived in southwest Iowa most all of her adult life with Shannon City being her home for over 20 years. She loved crafts and had a passion for sewing. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Ruby enjoyed her pets--especially her dogs and watching her birds.

Ruby was united in marriage to Carrol C. Heimke on February 10, 1973. Ruby enjoyed good health until she was 67 and then she waged a

strong a courageous battle with diabetes, strokes, and cancer.

After Carrol's untimely death on May 3, 1996 Ruby moved to the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, IA. Ruby died on September 8,

1998 at the Clearview Home.

Preceding Ruby in death were her parents, her husband Carrol, as well as several brothers and sisters.

Ruby is survived by her children Karen Warren of Palmer, AK, Clifford Gildow of Phoenix, AZ, Jimmy D. Ruddick of Des Moines, IA and Jerry C. Ruddick of Florida; grandchildren Mike Gute of San Jose, CA, Jim Gute of Steator, IL and Elaine Ruddick of Wenatchee, WA.

Funeral services were in the Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Thursday, September 10, 1998 with the Rev. Alan Rusk officiating. Nancy Sackett, Mary Trullinger, Margaret Bickers and Vince Gill provided music. The musical selections were "Go Rest High On That Mountain," and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Pallbearers were Joe Routh, Larry Oshel, Gary Pitman, Harold Bower, Bryan Miller, Larry Denney, and Charles Hawkins.

Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery in Shannon City.

Lane, Madge A Wheeler Miller -

Funeral Services for Madge A. (Wheeler) Miller Lane of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Lenox, Iowa was held Wednesday August 26,

1998 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Glens Valley in Johnson County, IN.

Madge was born September 21, 1922 in Corning, Iowa to R. Lysle and Nell (Runyon) Wheeler. She was switchboard operator for

BMV of Denver, Colorado for 20 years retiring in 1991.

She is survived by one son Richard Miller of Guthrie, Oklahoma, one daughter Miriam Narmore of Indianapolis, Indiana, a brother, Joe

Wheeler of Denver, Colorado and a sister, Mary Angus of Stanton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son James P. Miller aid a brother Richard Wheeler and a daughter-in-law Eileen Miller.

Herrmann Funeral Home of Indianapolis was in charge of the arrangements.

Ramsey, Mary Ila Swartz -

Mary Ila Ramsey was born in Mercer Township in Adams County on March 5, 1913 to George and Cora (Riley) Swartz. She passed

away at the Lenox Care Center on July 17, 1998 at the age of 85.

Ila attended rural schools and graduated from Lenox High School as a teacher. She taught for seven years at Grant #4 & 5.

On June 12, 1938, Ila married Winfield Ramsey. They lived on various farms in the Adams County Area, including Ila's birthplace. The

"Reece Place" on highway 34. They had a 50th anniversary celebration at Stringtown Church and had recently passed the 60 year mark. To this union was born three children: Crystal, Edwin and Galen.

Ila was a farm wife, mother and grandmother. She participated in many activities of the Stringtown Community church and various

neighborhood clubs. Ila enjoyed trying new crafts and recipes and working with genealogical material.

Ila was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Winfield of Lenox; her daughter Crystal (Mark) Warvoord of Kalamazoo, MI; her sons, Edwin of Prescott

and Galen of Evanston, Ill.; her brother, Eugene (Estella) Swartz of Lenox and two grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends.

Services was held Tuesday, July 21, 1998 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home.

Burial was in the North Fairview Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name.

Russell, Lonnie Dean -

Funeral services for Lonnie Dean Russell, age 59, who died at the University of Iowa hospitals in Iowa City, on Friday, October 9, 1998 were held at the Ritchie Funeral Home on Monday, October 12, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jamie Mogler officiating. Burial with military rites by the John F. Hardin American Legion Post #164 were held in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. Services were

conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

Lonnie Dean Russell was born to Maurice and Grace Holder Russell on September 14, 1939, in Clarinda. On August 11, 1959, he was united

in marriage to Arieta Brown and to this union three children were born, Debborah, Michael and Mary Louise.

Then on February 28, 1963, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, he was united in marriage to Barbara Million. To this union three children were born Jo Ellen, Jeff and Jerry.

Lonnie was a life long Clarinda resident and attended the Clarinda Community Schools. In 1962 he answered a call to serve his country by entering the United States Army being stationed in Italy until 1964. Lonnie was awarded the Marksman (Rifle M-l) and Good Conduct Medal as well as having top secret security clearance to set the coordinates for firing of the missies.

In 1965 Lonnie and Barbara moved to a farm six miles south of Bedford where they continued their love for farming and raising cattle.

They started Russell Salvage once they moved to Bedford and ever since he has been known as the "Iron Man".

Lonnie was a former President of the Bedford Saddle Club; organized the first American Quarter Horse Show held in Bedford along

with the first Bedford Blue Grass Festival held at the Taylor county fairgrounds.

Survivors include his wife Barbara of Bedford; two sons, Jeff and wife Rhonda of Bedford and Jerry and wife Denise of Council Bluffs; two daughters, Jo Ellen Dougherty and husband Terry of Bedford and Debborah Gagala and husband Ryan of Downers Grove, Illinois; eleven plus grandchildren; special life-long friend, Howard Maxwell and family of Clarinda; along with many other family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Grace; a son, Michael Dean and a daughter, Mary Louise who both died in infancy, and a granddaughter, Arika.

Rychnovsky, Andrew Lewis -

Andrew Lewis Rychnovsky of Prescott passed away September 9, 1998 at the Clearview Home in Clearfield.

Mr. Rychnovsky, the son of John S. and Albena (Sobotka) Rychnovsky was born August 25, 1906 in Cainsville, Missouri. He attended school in Missouri and Ringgold County rural schools. He was united in marriage to Mary L. Krisinger in Corning on February 10, 1931. He farmed all his life.

He moved from Missouri to Iowa at the age of 11, lived in the Diagonal area for 22 years and moved to a farm east of Prescott in 1942 where they lived until moving to the Clearview Home in Clearfield in June 1998. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Church and

served as area director for Ringgold County School. He was on the Union Township election board in Adams County. Rychnovsky and his wife, Mary were grand marshals of the Prescott Septemberfest parade in 1989.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Rychnovsky of Clearfield; two sons, James E. (wife Marilyn) Rychnovsky of Prescott and Marvin A. (wife Jan) Rychnovsky of Osceola; a daughter, Rosalie M. (husband Harold) Witt of Earlham; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Joe, Albert and Francis; a sister, Agnes; and a granddaughter.

Services were held September 12 at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston, with the Rev. Emeka Akabueze officiating. Burial was in the Summit Cemetery, east of Prescott.

Scroggie, Charles Joseph -

Services for Charles Joseph Scroggie was held September 27, 1998 at the Christian Church in Blockton, Iowa with Rev. Scott Marcum

officiating. Music was provided by Jody Lawrence and Marvel Melvin.

Casketbearers were Robin Scroggie, Carlin Scroggie, Craig Grindstaff, Michael Scroggie, Kyle Grindstaff, and Ron Scroggie.

Charles Joseph Scroggie, son of George W. and Maggie Schafer Scroggie, was born on December 29, 1933 in Taylor County, Iowa and departed this life September 24, 1998 at the age of 64 years.

Charles attended rural Taylor County schools and graduated from Blockton High School.

On November 16, 1955 he was united in marriage to Beatrice Grindstaff. They were blessed with four sons: Robin Ray, Michael Lee, Arlin Joe and Carlin Jon.

Charles served in the U.S. Army from December 1955 to December 1957. After his discharge from the Army he worked as auto mechanic for Ames Cross and Harvey Brothers in Mount Ayr, Iowa before moving to Harbor City, California where he worked for C&C Automotive.

In 1963 Charles sold his business and moved to a farm north of Bedford, Iowa where he farmed and continued with his auto mechanics business part-time.

For the past 15 years he lived in Blockton, Iowa and Phoenix, Arizona operating an auto repair business in Blockton with his son Michael.

After closing the auto repair business he worked in Phoenix, Arizona at Echols RV Service before returning to Blockton where he built a business manufacturing tractor cab interiors.

He retired in 1997 after selling Buckeye Tractor Works to Wayne Lee who moved the business to Bedford.

Charles was preceded in death by his son Joe and his parents George and Maggie Scroggie.

Survivors include his wife Beatrice of Blockton, Iowa; his three sons, Rob of Los Angeles, California, Mike and his wife Bonnie of Blockton and Carlin also of Blockton; three grandchildren; Sarah, George and Kaela; his mother-in-law Meda Grindstaff; his two sisters Jennie Webb and Georgia Parker; three brothers John and wife Chris, Jessie and Bob; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren; also boating and assisting his sons with their various projects.

Interment was in the Platteville Cemetery of Blockton, Iowa.

Sleep, Vera Blanche Murray -

Funeral services for Vera Blanche Sleep, age 90, who died at the Bedford Nursing & Rehab Center on Sunday, October 4, 1998 were held at the Ritchie Funeral Home on Thursday, October 8, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jamie Mogler officiating. Burial was

in the Siam Cemetery. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

Vera Blanche Sleep was born to Edgar and Lavilla Welton Murray on January 15, 1908 on a farm east of Bedford in Gay Township, Taylor

County, Iowa. On August 24, 1926 she was united in marriage to Dale Henry Sleep in Clarinda. To this loving union eleven children were

born, Gerald, Darlene, Eldon, Wilbur, Robert, Marvin, Marvis, Betty, Johnny, Ronnie and Karen.

Vera grew up in Taylor County attending country schools and Bedford High School. After her marriage to Dale they moved to a farm in

Mason Township.

In 1958 her husband, Dale and eldest son, Gerald were both killed in a car accident. Vena remained on the family farm until moving to Bedford in 1970. After all the children moved from home Vera went to work for the Bedford Nursing Home aiding in the care of her mother who resided there until her death.

After that Vera would take several elderly ladies into her home to care for and provide a home atmosphere for them.

Once the grandchildren started to arrive Vera would crochet a bonnet and booties for each. All of her children received an afghan which she lovingly prepared for each family's heirloom.

Vera was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford.

Survivors include six sons, Eldon and wife Barb of Bedford; Wilbur and wife Joyce of Bedford; Robert and wife Mary Jo of Bedford; Marvin and wife Dorothy of Bedford; Johnny and wife Sandra of Gravity; Ronnie of Lenox; two daughters, Betty Miller and husband John of New Market and Karen Drake and Daryl of Moravia; thirty-two grandchildren; sixty-one greatgrandchildren; several greatgreat

grandchildren along with many other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Lavilla; her husband, Dale; a son, Gerald; two daughters, Darlene Claybaker and Marvis Ballard; two sisters, Leona Fitzhugh and E Christenson.

Strain, Kathleen W Poindexter -

Services for Kathleen W. Strain were held October 6, 1998 at the United Methodist Church in Modale, Iowa. Pastor Dick Krambeck

officiated. Organist was Marjorie Kraushaar.

Casket Bearers were Bill Barnes, John Strain, Paul Richardson, Frank Salter, Wayne Strain, and Alan Schwertley.

Honorary Bearers were Jo Lyman, Cheryl Salter, Ruth Chandler, Marge Rath, Phyllis Pegg, and Margaret Smith.

Kathleen W. Strain, age 81, of Modale, Iowa died October 1, 1998 at the Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Kathleen

was born February 12, 1917 in Hastings, Iowa to R.E. and Glee (Cox) Poindexter. In 1929 she moved from Hastings to Lenox, Iowa where she graduated from High School in 1934.

She was married to Dewey Strain, August 14, 1941 in Pasadena, Texas. They moved to Modale in 1947.

Kathleen was a beautician and she owned and operated Kathleen's Beauty Salon from 1953 until 1970.

She then worked as a receptionist at the Desoto Bend National Wildlife Refuge retiring in 1982.

Dewey died October 31, 1985.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in Modale and was active in the Methodist Women. She was a fifty year member of the

Eastern Star. Kathleen enjoyed reading, sewing, crossword puzzles and Bible study.

Survivors include her son: Kent and his wife Sandra of Missouri Valley, Iowa; daughter Lynda Kelsey and her husband Larry of Oklahoma

City, Oklahoma; brother Rod Poindexter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren Blake McDonald, Lance Strain, Candace Lamerson, Tanya

Strain; great-grandsons Kyle and Tyler McDonald.

Kathleen was preceded in death by an infant brother, her parents and husband, Dewey.

An Eastern Star Service was held Monday at the Hennessey-Annan Funeral Home in Missouri Valley with visitation following.

Interment was in the Little Sioux Cemetery in Little Sioux, Iowa.

Symonds, Everett Clyde -

Everett Clyde Symonds was born February 14, 1907, in Adams County, Iowa. He was one of six children of Thomas and Laura (Eckels) Symonds.

Everett attended school in Kent, then in Lenox and Corning where he graduated. After finishing school, he worked on his parents' farm.

This became his lifelong vocation in addition to selling seed corn, he lived his entire life in the Adams, Taylor and Union County areas.

Everett was a member of the Salem Church of the Brethren as well as being a Sunday school teacher and superintendent of the Sunday

School and Religious Education programs. His church was so important to him that he continued to attend regularly long after he

was unable to hear the words that were spoken.

Although Everett never married, he enjoyed his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He also was honored to include young people in the Sunday School teaching at the church.

Everett died September 13, 1998 at the Ringgold County Memorial Hospital in Mount Ayr at the age of 91 years, 6 months, 29 days.

Those who preceded him were his parents, brothers and sisters-in-law; Ernest and Florence Symonds and Raymond and Lillian Symonds;

and sisters and brothers-in-law: Mae and Ralph Case and Iola and Leonard Steele.

He is survived by a sister Sylvia Cairns of Fallon, Nevada; eight nieces and eleven nephews; a sister-in-law Fran Symonds of Murray, Iowa and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 19 at 2 p.m. at the Salem Church of the Brethren in rural Lenox with Rev. Roy Cook

officiating. Burial was in the Salem Church Cemetery.

Those serving as pallbearers were Jerry Baker, Caleb Baker, Don Steele, Bob Steele, Lowell Steele, Tom Symonds, Terril Johnson, and

Rob McDowell. Mrs. Roy Cook as pianist and Gwen Maynes as vocalist provided the musical selections, "The Old Rugged Cross" and

Amazing Grace".

Memorials may be made in Everett's name.

Funeral services for Lola Vogel, age 88, who died at Mercy Hospital in Corning, on Wednesday, September 16, 1998, were held at the United Methodist Church in Lenox on Saturday, September 19, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Audrey Westendorf officiating.

Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Lola Amanda Vogel, one of eight children born to George and Nellie Nelson Schafer on February 6, 1910, in Lincoln Township, Adams

County, Iowa. On September 15, 1934, she was united in marriage to Glen Vogel in Des Moines. To this loving union four children were born, Marilyn, Galen, Eleanor and Hugh.

Lola attended Fairview Lincoln Country School No. 6 to the eighth grade, and in 1932 attended Simpson College in Indianola to study music.

Lola has fond memories of her childhood on the farm. She helped do the chores and attended to the needs of her five younger brothers and sisters. Her family knew how to have a good time. They loved to play cards and with Lola as the family musician they would gather around the piano to sing and dance.

Lola and Glen lived in the Adams County area until building their home in Lenox in 1979.

Lola was such a loving and giving wife, mother and friend. She could sew, quilt, embroider and crotchet almost anything. But her greatest joy was that of her music. She was a life long piano and music teacher, giving lessons all her adult life to many neighborhood girls and boys. It was also her way of relaxing.

She was a fifty year plus member of the Lenox Methodist Church, a long time member of the WSCS of the Mercer Center Methodist

Church, the Sunny side Neighborhood Club, and a long time 4-H member.

Survivors include her loving husband Glen of Lenox; two daughters, Marilyn Beck and husband Joe Matheny of Lenox, and Eleanor Stueckradt and husband Steve of Corning; two sons, Galen Vogel and wife Elaine of Huntington Beach, California and Hugh Vogel and wife Sheryl of Lenox; a sister, Lenora Karstensen of Corning; two brother-in-laws Russell Vogel and Verle Mosman, both of Corning; two

sister-in-laws, Helen Vogel, and Beulah Bissell and husband Rex all of Corning; nine grandchildren; five step grandchildren, nine great

grandchildren, Nine step-great grandchildren along with many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Nellie; four brothers, Ornal, Delmont, Boyd and Seymour Schafer, two sisters Lucille Lemon and Velma Lovig.

Young, Kenneth Dean -

Kenneth Dean Young was born June 21, 1924 in rural Lenox, Iowa, one of nine children of Charles and Ida Willbee Young. Kenneth

spent his entire life in the Lenox area where he attended the Lenox schools.

On September 21, 1947, Kenneth was united in marriage to Ruth Spring in Lenox. To his union was born a daughter, Rita Mae. Following Ruth's death, he was married on March 22, 1967 to Agnes Christensen Young in Lenox. He worked in the carpentry field for most of his

life in and around the Lenox area. He retired in December of 1994.

Kenneth was a member of the Lenox United Methodist Church of the International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge in Creston.

He passed away August 22, 1998, at the Lenox Care Center at the age of 74 years, 2 months, 1 day.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Ruth, sisters: Betty Case and Marie Young; brothers: Dick, George, Donnie and Harold Young.

Those who survive him are his wife Agnes Young of Lenox; a daughter, Rita Mae Young of Des Moines; step-daughters, Cheral Morgan,

(husband John) of Clear Lake, Iowa and Joyce Means of Creston; a step-son Harold Young of Gunnison, Colorado; brothers: Dale Young (wife Pat) of Granger, Iowa, and William Young (wife Roberta) of Lenox; four step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held August 25, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox with Pastor Audrey Westendorf officiating. Burial was in the West Fairview Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Lonnie Barker, Kevin Barker, Fred Haynes, Lyle John, Larry Rogers, and Norbert Bradley. Honorary pallbearers were Jasper Ambrose, Floyd Blair, Al Shafar, Lee West and Vernal Thompson. Kathryn Wilson as organist played the

musical selections, "How Great Thou Art" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand".

Coen-Beaty Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made in his name.
