Loren C Bailey 79 of Peoria died at 7:40 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2003, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
Born Oct. 11, 1923, in Ringgold County, Iowa, to Clifford D. and Vesta L. Clute Bailey, he married Patricia L. Doyle
on August 14, 1954, in Peoria. She died April 8, 1986, in Peoria.
Surviving are three daughters, Nancy (and John) Northway of Fort Myers, FL., Barbara (and David) Hangar of
Severna Park, MD; and Susan (and Robert) Patrick of Chicago; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and
one sister, Aladene (and Jerry) Cacy, of Tulsa, OK.
An engineer for Caterpillar Inc. for 38 years, he retired from the Mossville plant in 1986. He was a member of
the Society of Automotive Engineers. He graduated from Iowa State University in Ames with a degree in
mechanical engineering. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Peoria for more
than 40 years, where he had served as a deacon, on various church boards and was a member of the church golf
league and Caterpillar Retirees Golf League. A private graveside service will be at Parkview Cemetery.

Carlson, Leonard -
Funeral services for Leonard Carlson, age 91, of Lenox, who died Sunday, August 17, 2003, at the Lenox Care Center were held
Wednesday, August 20,2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox with Pastor Tim Maxa officiating. Interment with
military rites accorded by the Parkinson American Legion Post No. 250 were held in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.
Memorials can be directed to the Lenox Volunteer Ambulance Service. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home
of Lenox.
Leonard David Carlson was born June 6, 1912, in Chicago Heights, Illinois the son of David Carlson and Rose A. Kanilcke
Carlson. Leonard grew up in the Chicago area. He entered the United States Navy on December 29, 1943. Leonard served in the
South Pacific and European Theaters. Leonard was discharged on April 4, 1946, having received the Victory Medal, American Area
Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific and European African Middle Eastern Area Medals. After his discharge, he went to work for
Penn Central Railroad as a Dispatcher and in the Club Car as a Commissary.
On November 26, 1948, he was united in marriage to Veva McMath in Chicago. Lenny retired in the mid 1970's and he and
his wife Veva moved to Lenox. Veva passed away in 1985, and Lenny continued to live at their home until March of 2003 when
his declining health required him to enter the Lenox Care Center.
Lenny loved sports. He enjoyed watching golf and baseball. Being a huge Cubs Fan, he planned his days around the Cubs schedule.
He liked being outdoors, spending time fishing and traveling with Veva. They would visit family and enjoyed going to the Wisconsin
Dells. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church and was a member of the Parkinson American Legion Post No. 250.
Left to cherish Leonard's memory are four nephews, Raymond Grahf of St. Petersburg, Florida; Roger Grahf of
Littleton, Colorado; Mark Hoffman of Lenox and Richard McMath of Knoxville, Iowa; two nieces Deb Bender and Susan Agans,
both of Lenox; three sisters-in-law, Patty McMath of Lenox; LaVerna McMath of Osceola, Iowa and Margaret McMath of
Knoxville, Iowa; along with many other nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding Leonard in death are his parents, David and Rose; his wife Veva in 1985; a brother Delmar in World War II, and a
sister, Marjorie Grahf.

Coryl "Chinky" Eberle, age 68, of Des Moines, died August 22, 2003 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines
following complications of a stroke. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's in Lenox with the
Rev. Tim Fitzgerald officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Tuesday at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home in Des Moines
and one hour prior to the Mass at the Church.
Mrs. Eberle is survived by her children, Kay Bennett and her husband Matt of Lee's Summit, MO, Kim Matheny and her
husband Duane, of Clarinda, Leanne Tyler and her fiancee Ben Silva of Davenport; Grandchildren Elizabeth Bennett, Brittney
Smith, Danielle Matheny, Andrea Matheny, Trey Smith, Trace Matheny and Teagan Matheny; Niece Coryl Ann Creed and great
nephews; and an aunt and uncle, Margaret and Vane Lucas of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Coryl Jones Miller; father Charles Jones; husband Bill Eberle; sister Mary Margaret
Jones Hurd; step-father Raymond (Bing) Miller; son-in-law Willie Smith, Jr.; and great nephew, Charles Andrew Seal.
Coryl Belle Jones, the daughter of Charles and Coryl Elizabeth (Damewood) Jones was born September 16, 1934 in
Creston. As a child, she was raised in the Sharpsburg area and graduated from Lenox High School. On August 28, 1954, she was
united in marriage to Bill Eberle and the couple made their home in Oklahoma while Bill served in the military. They returned to
Lenox where they farmed until moving to Puerto Rico. Mr. Eberle passed away in 1990 and she continued to maintain her home in
Puerto Rico until moving to Des Moines in 1995. While in Des Moines, she was employed as a salad bar manager at the Park
Avenue HyVee Store.

Funeral services for Mary Margaret Palmer were held Sunday, June 15, in Graham, Mo. She passed away June 12,
2003, at her home near Graham. Burial was at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham.
Mary Margaret Palmer was born June 1, 1910 in Conway, IA., to W.W. and Gertrude Laycock Palmer, and left us
June 12,2003 at her home near Graham, MO.
She graduated from Conway High School and attended Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College in Maryville, MO.,
where she met James Curtis Forcade. They were married August 23, 1929, and celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
Curtis preceded Mary in death March 1, 1990. They were the parents of a stillborn son and four daughters, who survive.
Mary was a teacher-initially a schoolteacher, she also taught Sunday School, and anything else she knew about
that someone was interested in learning. She was a member of a Bible study group for many years. She was a writer and a founding
member of the Happy Scribes Writers Group.
She enjoyed making blue garters for brides and crocheted many beautiful pieces, often creating her own patterns. She was a true
friend, and never met a stranger. She enjoyed people and wasn't ever happier than when family and friends were gathered around her
kitchen table. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, a granddaughter, two brothers, three half sisters,
and three son-in-laws. She is survived by 4 daughters, Elaine Elder of the home, Suzanne Haas, Hallandale, FL., Dorinda
DePriest, Maryville, and Mary Lynne Forcade of the home; by seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren,
2 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Mary has gone on ahead, we are left, in our turn, to
share her love and caring with others.

Marilyn Gray of Corning, formerly of Prescott, passed away at the Corning Nursing and Rehab Center, in Corning on October 15,
2003. There was a graveside services Saturday, October 18, 2003, in the Evergreen Cemetery, Prescott. Pastor Roy Cook
of the Stringtown Community Church conducted the services. Memorials in her name may be made to the Corning Public Library
in Marilyn's name.
She was born December 20, 1932, Atlantic to Dayle Arvid and Burnette Marie (Caton) Peterson. She graduated from the Prescott
High School in 1950 and attended the Commercial Extension Business School, Omaha. She was married to James Edward
Gray on October 24, 1952 in Prescott.
Marilyn worked at Union Carbide for many years and was also a librarian in Prescott. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran
Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jim, and sons Mike (Sherry) Gray, Prescott and Patrick, Corning. She is also survived by a sister,
Janean (Larry) Maeder, Corning; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Gray, Corning. There are seven grandchildren and two great
grandchildren surviving.
She was pre-deceased by her parents and a son, Robert.

Hinshaw, Kenneth K -
Graveside funeral services for Kenneth Hinshaw, age 60, of Clearfield, who died Monday, September 29, 2003 were
held Friday, October 3, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Clearfield Cemetery, with Pastor Tim Maxa officiating. Memorials can be
given in Kenneth's name. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.
Kenneth K. Hinshaw was born November 17, 1942 in Clearfield, Iowa the son of Loren Franklin Hinshaw and Ethel
Mae Lane Hinshaw. He grew up between Lenox and Clearfield attending Lenox Community School, graduating with the Class
of 1961. On September 11, 1961, he was united in marriage to Helen Dukes at the Lenox Christian Church. Two children were
born to bless this union, Stoney and Karolyn.
In 1968, Kenneth and Helen moved to Roseyille, Illinois where he worked as a tractor mechanic. In 1977, they
returned to Clearfield when he began working for Roe Implement in Mount Ayr. He later worked for Larsen Farms;
also working in Red Oak until 1996, when his health forced him to retire.
Kenneth enjoyed country music and had seen many performers over the years. He loved to be outdoors and in his
younger years enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed working in his yard and helping people. Kenneth had a great
sense of humor and thoroughly enjoyed playing jokes on people and telling stories. He was known as a 'power shopper' and
enjoyed making a day out of a shopping trip. Kenneth was a patient man, often when they were shopping, Helen would have
gone through three stores while Kenneth had gone through one!
Kenneth was a member of the Roseville Christian Church. Left to cherish Kenneth's memory are his loving wife
Helen of Clearfield; his mother, Ethel Hinshaw of Clearfield; a son, Stoney Hinshaw of Malcom, Iowa; a daughter, Karolyn
Poquette and husband Ray of Swanton, Vermont; a brother, Gary Hinshaw and wife Cathy of Mesa, Arizona; a sister, Faye
Jean Hinshaw and Dan Crowell of Clearfield; and five grandchildren, along with a host of friends.
Preceding Kenneth in death was his father Loren and a brother, Norman.

Juergens, Ruth Imogene Wagner -
Services were held for Ruth Imogene Juergens on September 11, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Clearfield Christian Church with
Reverend Eydie Stephens.
Casket bearers were Lawrence Siverly, Dwight Matheny, Phil Larson, Joe Routh, Gaylen Bell, and Charles Jackson. Honorary
Pallbearers were Joan Owens, Norma Beggs, Dorothea Larsen, Dorene Rusk, Robert and Ruth Thompson, Marvin and Betty
Boyer, and Vernon and Jesse Straight. Interment was held at Clearfield Cemetery in Clearfield, Iowa.
Ruth Imogene Wagner was born November 8, 1926, to Henry and Maude Wagner in LaPorte, Indiana. She was the fourth of
nine daughters in the Wagner family.
She attended school there and in 1943 met Dale Juergens at a defense plant where the two were employed. The couple married
September 15, 1946, in LaPorte, and moved to Iowa, eventually settling in Clearfield where they lived for over 50 years. Ruth and
Dale would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this month. One of their favorite things to do together was to go to
dances and dance to the music of the Big Band Era.
God blessed the couple with four children, Sharon, Karen, Annette and Mike, and also six grandchildren.
Ruth was a member of the Clearfield Christian Church, CWF, Lionels and Eastern Star. She held many volunteer positions in the
Church, including leading the youth choir for many years, and gave much of her time in support of her children's school, music,
sports and 4-H activities.
Ruth took great pride in caring for her family and home, and loved to work outside planting a wonderful variety of beautiful
flowers. She never had a grand landscaping plan, but rather, if she thought a plant or flower was pretty she would find a place to put
it in the yard, then nurture it, and take much delight when it grew and bloomed. Her children's yards now contain a lot of lovely
foliage that got started in Ruth's yard under her tender loving care.
Ruth also had a warm heart for the elderly in the community. She would frequently take pies or other baked foods to their
homes, or share family Thanksgiving or Christmas meals with them.
She was also faithful in sending cards to friends to say Happy Birthday or Get Well, and in her later years, would write letters to
friends who were not feeling well or who were spending the winter down South, to see how they were doing and to catch up on news.
One of her favorite days of the week was Friday when she went to Creston to get her hair done and then go shopping. She
was on a first name basis with many of the store clerks in Creston over the years and enjoyed taking time to visit with them.
Ruth cherished her grandchildren, and celebrated with them everything from news of a first tooth to their school
accomplishments.
In the last couple weeks of her life, she, Dale and their kids spent cherished moments together, laughing with one another,
retelling family stories, singing Happy Birthday to Mike, sharing Communion and reciting the Lord's Prayer.
And because of the faith the family shares, they believe Ruth is still laughing arid singing and taking a spin around-the dance,
floor, pain free, up in heaven.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Dora Bealor, Velma Home and Janice Thompson.
Left to mourn her passing are husband, Dale, of Clearfield, daughters, Sharon (Ray) Weiss of Herndon, VA, Karen (Michael)
Spanier of Reno, NV, and Annette (Jeff) Busbee of Cedar Rapids, IA, and son Mike (Mary Beth) Juergens of Atlantic, IA; and
sisters, Iola Spencer, Doris Hughett, Pearl Wagner, Betty Bradford and Carol Peoples; and 6 grandchildren, Nicholas and Andrew

Funeral services for C. Marvin Miller, age 83, of Lenox, who died Wednesday, October 8, 2003 were held Friday,

the East Fairview Cemetery in Lenox with military rites accorded by the Parkinson American Legion Post No. 250. Memorials

C. Marvin Miller was born on December 21, 1919, in Sharpsburg, Iowa the son of Portland I. Miller and Grace Elizabeth Pfander
Miller. He grew up in the Sharpsburg area attending rural schools. After school, he farmed with his father and his grandparents.
He met Veda Brown at a movie in Lenox and on June 1, 1939, they were united in marriage at the United Presbyterian Church in
Lenox. The couple farmed southwest of Lenox until Marvin answered the call to serve his country on June 21, 1944. He served
in United States Army in the Pacific Theatre. After his discharge in February of 1946, he worked as a handyman in the Lenox
area for a time, before purchasing a farm near Tingley. Marvin and Veda lived there until 1960 when they moved to Lenox where
he worked a short time for the Lenox Lumber Yard. He was also custodian for the Lenox Community School for over fifteen years,
retiring in 1982.
Marvin loved farming and the lifestyle it provided. He was always willing to help the neighbor farmers in any way he
could. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and riding horses when time allowed! In 1967, he and Veda purchased a camper and
traveled around the country, visiting relatives and making new friends. He really enjoyed camping and did so up until the early
1990's. He was also a woodworker, specializing in making small mantle clocks. The highlight of his life, however, was his
family and spending time with them. Christmas and annual summer picnics were treasured times for Marvin. He was a
member of the Lenox Christian Church; the Parkinson American Legion Post No. 250; a charter member of the Tingley Lions
Club and the Lenox Stock & Saddle Club.
Left to cherish Marvin's memory are his loving wife Veda of Lenox; two daughters, Rita Sickels and husband Sydney of
Des Moines; and Marie Sickels of Villisca; a son, Dennis Miller and wife Mary Lynn of Ankeny; three brothers, Leo Miller and
wife Naomi of Morris, Minnesota; Howard Miller and wife Darlene of Bedford; and Edwin Miller and wife Marlene of
Bedford; nine grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Preceding Marvin in death are his parents Portland and Grace; a son, Alan at infancy; a sister, Lola; two brothers, Elvin and
Raymond and a granddaughter, Amanda.

Porter, Jeanne Hook Johnson -
Jeanne "Hook" Porter, of Santa Monica, CA, age 79, died June 25, 2003, at the Santa Monica Hospital of
Cancer. She was operated on for cancer twice and was too far gone to do any more operations. Jeanne was born
in Bedford, Iowa, July 9, 1923. She was a member of the Methodist Church and requested she be cremated and
the ashes put in the ocean.
She is survived by her daughter, Christy Clark and two grandchildren, John and Ann. Jeanne graduated in the
1941 class and was able to make many of the class reunions. After graduation she went to Montana and was
married. They moved to California so she could work in the defense factory. Her marriage did not last and she
was left to raise her daughter, which she did. She married a real great guy, Kip Johnson, and the marriage lasted many
years. Kip worked in a jewelry shop in Beverly Hills and got to know many of the movie stars. Cancer took this
nice guy and he did a great job helping raise Christy.
Jeanne was a Real Estate broker in Santa Monica and wound up marrying the mayor of Santa Monica, Sam Porter.
This marriage ended like the others and Sam passed away. Jeanne said she had enough husbands so got busy selling
real estate and did a great job. When she made a large sale, she would take her daughter, her husband and
grandchildren on a trip to Europe or on a long sea cruise.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, G.W. and Edna Hook and brother, Bill Hook.
Survivors include sister, Betty Miller of Billings, Montana, brother, James Hook of somewhere in
Wyoming and Jack Hook of Lemon Grove, California.
A tribute was held aboard a ship from Redondo Beach, CA, Sunday, July 13, 2003. Captain Larry Day took the
ship one and a half miles to sea and we had a short quiet tribute as the ashes were put in the ocean. There were 10
of us on board and it was a very impressive service just as Jeanne wanted. Sister, Betty was too sick to partake and we
were unable to locate brother, James in Wyoming.

Funeral services for Jerry Reeve, age 60, of Lenox, who died Monday, September 1, 2003 were held Saturday, September 6,
2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox. Interment was held in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell.
Memorials can be directed to the Green Valley Hospice. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of
Lenox.
Jerry Dwayne Reeve was born July 17, 1943, in Creston, Iowa the son of G.H. Reeve and Neva McKinney Reeve. Jerry
grew up attending school in the Creston area. He learned to mix plaster as a teenager and shortly thereafter he started
plastering. He moved to Cedar Rapids for a short time before moving to Colorado and later northern California and Oregon,
returning to Iowa in the spring of 1997. He lived in Lenox working as a general repairman until his health forced him to retire.
Jerry was a member of the Teamsters Union.
Jerry loved country western and Mexican music. He enjoyed going to sales and flea markets. He was a devoted family man and
enjoyed having kids around and doing things to make them happy. He always had a camera, taking pictures of the whole family,
especially the kids. Although he did not attend church, he always listened to television preachers on Sunday mornings.
Left to cherish Jerry's memory are his mother, Neva Reeve of Lenox; two sons, Rickie Reeve and Tony Reeve of Red Oak; a
daughter, Rosie Romero of Buena Vista, Colorado; three stepdaughters, Annette, Laura and Cathy; six brothers and sisters
Gailard Reeve and wife Dee of Des Moines; Joan Davis and husband Larry of Scranton; Darrell Reeve of Lenox; Allen Reeve
and wife Katie of Runnells; Tena Reeve of Coon Rapids and Darla Davis and husband Bill of Lamar, Missouri; several grandchildren
and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jerry in death was his father G.H. Reeve in April of 2003.

Memorial Services for Lucille (Schafroth) Reynolds, formerly of the Lenox and Adams County area were held
August 2, 2003, at the Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service in Lenox.
Lucille passed away in LaMarque.TX. on June 14, 2003. The services were conducted by Pastor Tim Maxa of the United
Presbyterian Church, Lenox. Burial was in the East Fairview Cemetery, Lenox.
Memorials will be established in her name.
Lucille was born near Lenox in Adams County; on April 16, 1917 to Joe B. and Grace (Hill) Schafroth.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years; James W. Reynolds. Surviving children are: Daughter, Cheryl Symonds
Rotter of Dickinson, TX; Daughter-in-law, Sandy Symonds, Charleston, IL. Step-children, James Reynolds II of
Lincoln, IL and Janet Edwards, El Paso, TX. Also surviving is one sister Mynne Poindexter (Rod), Cedar
Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Robin; son, Ronnie Symonds; son-in-law,
Jim Rotter; older brother, Owen (Buck) Schafroth; nephew, Stephen (Pedro) Schafroth.

Lyle Sharp, Corning, Iowa passed away at his home in Creston, IA on Friday, August 1, 2003.
Services were held on Wednesday, August 6th at the Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service of Creston, IA.
with Rev. Barbara Zimmerman of St. John's United Church of Christ in Creston. Interment of the cremains will
be in the Graceland Cemetery, Creston, IA.
Lyle was born March 21, 1929 in Osceola, IA., to James Albert and Ruth Mae (Marohn) Sharp. On April 30, 1953
he was united in marriage to Virginia Mae Jeter in Afton, IA. He worked for the IA Department of Transportation,
he was the Foreman with the Highway Commission in Howard and Ringgold Counties.
He was a member of the VFW Post #4561 in Cresco, I A; the American Legion in Creston. He was a member of the Pool
League in Cresco, IA (he was an avid and skilled Billiard Player). He served during the Korean Conflict in the U.S.
Army from 1950-1953.
He was pre-deceased by his parents; 2 brothers: James A. Sharp, Jr., and Raymond Sharp.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Sharp of Mt. Ayr, IA. and a son: Lonnie (Diane) Sharp of Des Moines, IA.

Shier, Ella Jean Myers -
Ella Jean Shier, 32, of North Richland Hills, Texas passed away Sunday, September 21, 2003. Celebration of life services
were held Thursday, September 25 at Grace Community Church in Southlake, TX with burial at Lonesome Dove Cemetery in
Southlake.
Ella was born March 16, 1971 in DeRidder, Louisiana. After high school she attended Christ for the Nations Institute
in Dallas where she met her future husband, Wesley Shier who was also attending the school. Before their marriage
on September 19, 1992 she made a mission trip to China. Sharing the gospel and ministering to her fellow Christians were
her hearts desires throughout her life.
Ella and Wesley were blessed with four children.
She assisted in the Mother's Day Out program through her church and was a homemaker. Even during her illness she
and Wesley ministered to those in her church and those they met through her frequent hospitalizations.
Ella is survived by her husband Wesley, formerly of Bedford, children Brittany, 9, Erin 7, Jonathan, 4 and
Nicolas, 3. Parents Martha and Willis Myers of Van, Texas, sister Sara Powers of Canton, Tx. and her family,
parents-in-law Charlie and Evelyn Shier of Bedford, sister-in-law Tressa Edelman and her family of Carrollton,
Texas, numerous relatives in Louisiana, and many brothers and sisters in Christ.

Smith, Leonard -
Leonard Smith son of Ralph and Millie Smith passed away at his home on Wednesday on August 13, 2003.
Born November 29, 1928. Leonard attend school and graduated in 1947 in Blockton. He entered into the Navy in 1948
for 4 years during the Korean War. After his service he schooled a year at an electronic trade school.
On July 5, 1956 he married Sandra Byers of Clarinda, formerly of Lenox, to this union two children were born, Rick and
Kim. Leonard lived most of his life in Blockton. He worked for Blockton Oil and Northern Propane, and was an X-ray technician
at Ringgold County Hospital in Mt. Ayr.
He served as mayor of Blockton for 2 terms and on the city council. He developed the EMS System in Blockton that they now
use and in 1980 was awarded EMT of the year by the Central Iowa EMS Council. He was involved in getting Blockton
Community Betterment started and at the time of his death he was chairman of the Blockton Building Committee. He was
a member of the Blockton Legion Post 443.
Leonard was an avid fishermen, hunter, and photographer. He was a self-taught skillful individual who could accomplish
anything. He gave up his outdoor hobbies due to his health reasons and took up a chair in front of his computer and
enjoyed the world of Internet chatting with his family and new friends from all over the world.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Ralph and Millie Smith; 3 brothers, Cecil, Lloyd, and Ivan; mother and
father-in-law, Olen and Pearle Byers.
Left to morn his passing and cherish his memories: his loving wife, Sandra; son, Rick and wife Rose of Creston, IA; daughter
Kim and husband Jim Walker of Council Bluffs, IA; 6 grandchildren: Sherri, Josh and Rachel of Creston; Steven, Eric,
and Faye of Council Bluffs; 1 great-granddaughter Haley Jo who was his pride and joy. Also 4 nieces, one nephew, several cousins,
sister-in-law, Helen Smith of Lenox, and special family: Dennis, Gwen, and Katie Elliot of Topeka, KS.
He as laid to rest August 16 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton, IA. Officiating was Reverend Scott Marcum. Music
provided by Jodi Lawrence and Marvel Melvin. Casket bearers were Dan Smith, Josh Smith, Seven and Eric Walker, Delbert
Molt, and Jerry Key. Honorary Casket bearers were Whitey Stewart, Eldon Stoburg, David Loutzenhiser, Buck Weaver, Chris
Constant, and Billy Wyman. Military Rites by the Blockton American Legion, Post 443.
Leonard will be missed by his wife and family and remembered and missed by all who knew him.

Stoaks, Seraphia (Sere) Margaret Cullen -
Seraphia (Sere) Margaret (Cullen) Stoaks was born March 7, 1925 in Massena, IA the daughter of Pete Cullen and Leona
(Morrison) Cullen. Sere grew up in the Massena area until 1938 when the family moved to Clearfield. She attended her first two
years of high school in Lenox, her third year in Sharpsburg and then graduated from Ottumwa Heights School in Ottumwa, IA.
On November 9, 1943, she was united in marriage to Leo Eugene (Gene) Stoaks in Maryville, MO. To this loving union three daughters,
Karen, Pat and Vicki were born.
Sere was a nurse/medical assistant working in the offices of Dr. Sluss, Dr. Howland and in later years, for Dr. Kopp and Dr.
Gruba. She continued her "retirement" years as helper for the lunch shift at Vera's where she enjoyed many hours of her love
for playing cards and country music. When she was not found with cards in her hands, during the winter and fall months, Sere could
be found at home watching the "Hawkeyes" on TV while, at the same time, having headphones on listening to the "Cyclones". If there
was a game at the high school, you would most likely see her on the top row, cheering, for her "Lenox Tigers"! In the spring and summer
months, her energy and love for the outdoors would find her planting a new flower, moving her yard or the neighbor's yard, or
continuously digging in the garden.
Sere will be greatly missed by many friends and relatives.
Those family members include her three daughters, Karen Minnick and husband Hal of Morton, IL; Pat Halblieb and husband Joe of
Fountain Valley, CA; and Vickie Christensen and husband Lary of Lenox; grandchildren, Kayla Dahms and husband Dan and their
children, Kolton and Kelsie; and Bryce, Brett and Bronya Christensen of Lenox; two sisters, Mildred Watts of Purcellville, VA;
and Monica Mohler of Bedford.
Preceding Sere in death are her husband Leo (Gene) Stoaks, in 1975; infant sister, Marian Cullen; brothers-in-law, Charles
Mohler and Lyle Watts; a niece, Mary Margaret Mohler; and a grandson, Kory Minnick.
Services were held September 25, 2003 at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox, IA. Pastor Tim Maxa officiated.
Music was by Bonnie Tyler, organist. Casket bearers were: Dean Hogan, Chris Hogan, Tom Borland, John T. Borland, Gary Stoaks,
and Kurt Stoaks. Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. [Died 22 Sept 2003]
