George W. Johnson, 89, of Nodaway, Iowa died Friday, February 29, 2008, at his home
south of Nodaway.
George was born May 7, 1918, to Calvin Wesley and Sarah Emma (Holland) Johnson in
Guss, Iowa, one mile west of his current residence. He attended Weston Country School,
in Nodaway Township of Taylor County through the 8th grade.
He was united in marriage to Iva Lucille Blacklock on October 7, 1943 in Little Rock,
Arkansas, just prior to being sent to Ascension Island on the Southern Atlantic Ocean
where he served as a baker in the U.S. Army. Upon his discharge he returned to his lifelong
occupation of farming always within one mile of his birthplace. He was a member of the
Maple Grove United Methodist Church of Guss, Iowa.
George was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille in 2006, brothers Floyd and
wife Leona Johnson, Albert and wife Mary Johnson, Francis Johnson, Delbert Johnson
and Wilbur Johnson and son-in-law Clifford Koch.
George is survived by his children: Donald Johnson and wife Lilian of Ames, Iowa; Carol
and husband Terry Krone of Denver, Colorado; Kay and husband Gilles St. Pierre of
Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Joyce Koch of Omaha, Nebraska; Keith Johnson and wife
Denise of Mission, Kansas; Jan and husband Steve Rawson of Colorado Springs,
Colorado; Kurt Johnson and wife Deanne of Gravity, Iowa; and Chris and husband
Timothy Howe of Russellville, Arkansas; eleven grand children: Lynnay and husband
Erich Kites of Story City, Iowa; Darren Johnson and wife Sarah of Ames, Iowa;
Coquina Koch of Omaha, Nebraska; Regina Quaas and husband Michael of Shawnee,
Kansas; Jeremy Johnson and wife Tracy of Dallas, Texas; Heidi Johnson of Mission,
Kansas; Hannah and John Rawson both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Justine,
Michael and Natalie Johnson all of Gravity, Iowa; five great grandchildren: Isaac,
Daniel, Karissa, Madison and Michael Jr., Sisters-in-law Lola Johnson of Longmont,
Colorado, Lila Johnson, of Red Oak, Iowa and Betty Johnson of Corning, Iowa, and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Maple Grove United
Methodist Church in Guss, Iowa with interment in the Guss Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Maple Grove United Methodist Church.

Mascher, Mary Jean Ray -
Mary Jean Ray was born December 25, 1927 at Athelstan, Iowa to Harry Oliver and
Marjorie Ethel (Stephens) Ray. Jean passed away Sunday night, February 24, 2008 at
Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa, following an extended illness.
Jean graduated Bedford High School and Normal Training and was a teacher for one
year. She left teaching to marry Donald Mascher July ,28, 1946 at the Methodist
Church in Bedford. The couple moved to East River Township southeast of Clarinda
to farm, then to Villisca to farm for the Tyler family, later settling in Nodaway
Township north of Clarinda where they lived until Jean moved into Westridge
Quality Care & Rehab in Clarinda in July 2004.
Jean was baptized November 29, 1946 and Confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran,
December 10, 1946 after she was married. She was a member of the church's
Ladies Aid, quilting circle, Lutheran Laymens League, and helped with the chicken
dinners served at Immanuel in previous years. She was also a local Avon
representative, helped Donald with the Cargill Seed dealer bookkeeping, and
was a farmwife with the usual activities of gardening and raising chickens. She was
especially fond of making cookies for all the grandchildren and enjoyed their
visits on the farm and at the care facility. She will be missed by all her family
and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, one infant grandchild, grandson Paul
Mascher, two infant great grandchildren, and sisters, Betty Martin and Ellen
Finckbone and brother-in-law Andy Finckbone.
She is survived by her husband Donald of Clarinda; Chester Mascher and wife
Marilyn of Clarinda and Maxine Bohannon and her husband Bud of Des Moines,
Iowa, Marvin Mascher and his wife Sherill of Clarinda, and Judy Straw and her
husband Gene Sr. of Shenandoah, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great
grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and brother-in-law Bill Martin of Missouri.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Immanuel
Lutheran Church with Rev. Lawrence Boye and Rev. Michael Breach officiating.
Interment was at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund for
a handicap restroom. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel was in charge of
arrangements.

Mauderly, Jean Muriel King -
Memorial services for Jean Mauderly, age 85 of Bedford, who died Tuesday, February
26, 2008 at Bedford Nursing & Rehab were held Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at
the Faith Baptist Church in Bedford. Interment of ashes was held in the Guss Cemetery.

Jean Muriel (King), Mauderly was born May 22, 1922, in Stevens County, Minnesota the
daughter of Frank King and Minnie (Friedrick) King. As a young; child, she and her family
moved to southwest Iowa, growing up in the Villisca area, graduating with the Class of
1938. She taught country school for two years before being united in marriage to
Corwin Mauderly on November 28, 1940, in Maryville, Missouri. To this loving union
six children were born. After Corwin was discharged from the service in 1946, the
family moved to Taylor County where they farmed west of Bedford.
Corwin passed away in June of 2001, and Jean moved into Bedford in 2002.
In 1967, Jean attended nursing school in Clarinda where she obtained her LPN
Degree, having worked in area care facilities and had been a nurse for Dr. Jones
in Bedford until his death.
She enjoyed playing all types of card games with her family and friends.
Jean was a great cook and her home was always open to anyone who came to visit.
When younger, Corwin and Jean really enjoyed square dancing and in later years,
had a passion for bowling, both in leagues and tournaments. They also enjoyed
traveling, having taken many great trips together. Jean loved and enjoyed her
children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She attended the First Baptist
Church in Bedford.
Left to cherish Jean's memory are her six children, Jerry Mauderly and wife.
Carolyn of Bedford; Karen Jackson of Osceola; Phyllis Traster and husband Jack of
Osceola; Donna Melvin and Terry Henson of Blockton; Diane Scotton and husband Ed
of Bedford; and Wade Mauderly and wife Raman of Bedford; a sister-in-law, Arlene
King of New Market; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren,
along with many other relatives and friends.
Preceding Jean in death are her parents; her husband Corwin in 2001; two brothers,
Dale and Ross King; and two sisters, Blanche Scharff and Elsie Skelton.

Meier, Elizabeth (Betty) Patricia Wagner -
Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Meier, age 68, of Lenox who passed away
Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa were
held Monday, March 3, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox.
Interment was held at the East Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Elizabeth (Betty) Patricia Meier was the only child of Benjamin Wagner and Jarvis
(Cruckshank) Wagner of St. Louis, Missouri. She was married to Joseph H. Meier in
1957. They relocated to Lenox, Iowa from St. Louis, to be near Joe's closest
sister Goldie Stapleton and husband Walter. Betty and Joe enjoyed a new start
in Lenox. She left the city to find arms open and a wonderful welcome in this new
community. This place provided beautiful scenery, and she cherished the welcome to
her and her family.
During the years, her life was very full in Lenox. Betty and Joe were raising their
four children. They enjoyed all the celebrations of parenting and were proud of
their accomplishments.
Betty was always a devoted mother and became an awesome grandmother. Her
employment in Lenox was for a brief time at the Lenox School System before
she began her career of 26 years as a certified med. aide. Betty gave excellent
nursing care to the residents as she loved each one of them. Many times she would
bring someone home to share in our family holiday.
Her faith in God guided her life. She often reminded us that life is too short
and that conflict only shortens it more. Her personal relationship with Jesus
was expressed through her life culminating in her Baptism and Confirmation
into the Catholic Church. She enjoyed performances by grandchildren, daughter,
and herself as she frequently sang "God Bless America" at events.
She loved travel trips to Arizona, Las Vegas. East Coast and the breath taking
view from the top of the Empire State Building. She enjoyed growing roses,
caring for her home, collecting favorite items, playing cards, cooking, picnics,
and time with her dog, Rocky. She loved and enjoyed friends, especially her
neighbor Sandra. She had admiration and appreciation for the medical staff
and all care givers who gently and lovingly cared for her.
Her life is celebrated by her four children, daughter Cathy (Meier) and
Dan Bagley of Nevada, Iowa: sons. Joseph of Lenox, Iowa; Walter of Arizona;
Ben and Cheryl Meier, Lincoln, Nebraska; Her grandchildren Heather and
Danny Bagley, Jennie Meier, Kevin Royalty, Tyler and Brycin Miller.
Proceeding Betty in death are her parents Benjamin and Jarvis, husband
Joe, companion Wayne McDonald, many aunts and uncles, cousin, in-laws
and very dear friends.
She will be missed, her memory will live on and her presence will fill our
hearts forever.

Scane, Lois A Anderson -
Funeral services for Lois Scane, age 91 of Bedford, who died Tuesday, March 4, 2008
at her home were held Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral

Lois A. (Anderson) Scane was born August 11, 1916, in Gravity, Iowa the daughter
of Jimmy K. Anderson and Delia M. (Morrison) Anderson. She grew up attending
school in Gravity, graduating with the Class of 1933. On July 8, 1938, she was
united in marriage to Ben Scane at the Christian Parsonage in Clarinda, Iowa.
Lois and Ben lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado during World War II, doing
defense work, then moved to Bedford where they went into business opening
Scane Plumbing & Heating. In 1978, Ben passed away. Lois kept the business
open for several years with Mick Ware operating in the location.
Lois enjoyed traveling and being around people. She became the 'adopted
grandmother ' to Vic and Carole Noer's children, and she loved playing cards
and various games with them. Her motto in life was "do unto others as you
would have others do unto you." She was a long-time member of the United
Christian Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon. She was
also long-time member of the Order of Eastern Star, having received her
50 year pin in 1989.
Lois is survived by three nephews, Bill Perkins and wife Cheryl; Ben Perkins;
and Kenneth Anderson and wife Marilyn; two nieces, Patsy Steele and husband
Doral; and Dixie McFarland and husband Marty; along with several great-nieces
and nephews; grandchildren, Caren Scott and Vic Noer, Jr., four great
grandchildren, Megan and Andrea Scott; and Angela and Devon Noer; along
with many other friends.
Preceding Lois in death were her parents; her husband Ben Scane; two brothers,
Leslie and Virgil Anderson; a sister, Irma Perkins; a sister-in-law, LaVora
Anderson; a nephew, Bob Perkins; a niece, Neva Mae Johnson; and an adopted
grandchild, Cathy Noer.

Wright, Ethel Mae Keim McNees -
Ethel M. Wright, age 94 of Clarinda, Iowa, who died Monday, February 18, 2008 at the
Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa were held Thursday, February 21,
2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Bedford, Iowa with Loren Daly officiating.
Visitation with the family was held 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the
funeral home. Burial was in the Washington Cemetery, Gravity, Iowa. Memorials may be
directed to Atlantic Fire Department, Clarinda R.S.V.P., or New Market Civic Club.

Ethel Mae (McNees) Wright, only child of William Franklin and Cora (Sterner)
Keim was born January 25, 1914, on her parent's farm north of Dow City, Iowa and
passed away on February 18, 2008 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa
at the age of 94 years and 23 days of age.
Ethel attended Willow Township Country School in Crawford County, where she
graduated from 8th grade. On October 27, 1931, she was united in marriage to
George Eldon McNees in Tekamah, Nebraska. To this union five children were born:
Lois Marie, George Franklin, Russell Edward, Sandra Mae and Barbara Kae.
Ethel and George lived on various farms east of Bedford, Iowa from 1932 to 1939
at which time they moved to a farm near Gravity, Iowa. In 1940, they moved
northeast of Gravity to the farm they purchased. Ethel was a homemaker
and farm wife until moving to Bedford in 1960 after she and George were divorced.
She then worked at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute until her move to Council
Bluffs, Iowa. She worked at various jobs in the area and retired as head cook
at the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs in 1979.
She was a member of the Gravity Methodist Church until joining First Christian
Church in Council Bluffs and then later transferring her membership to the First
Christian Church in Clarinda, Iowa. Ethel was also a member of JFF, a neighbor-
hood club, while living at Gravity, and then later volunteered as an R.S.V.P. in
Clarinda. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting for family and friends.
On December 24, 1980, she married Earl Wright in Council Bluffs, Iowa and they
moved to Phoenix, Arizona where they resided until his death on December 25,
1997. She then moved to an apartment in Clarinda in 1998 and resided there
until entering Goldenrod Manor in 2004.
Preceding Ethel in death were her parents; two husbands, George E. McNees
and Earl Wright; infant daughter, Lois Marie McNees; son-in-law, Michael Ujlaky;
granddaughter, Michelle Chepak; two great grandchildren, Nancy Robinson and
Scott Richey; great, great granddaughter, Brianna Caldwell.
Ethel is survived by her children, George McNees and wife Martha of Clarinda, Iowa,
Russell (Skip) McNees and wife Julia of Atlantic, Iowa, Sandra Ujlaky of Mesa,
Arizona, Barbara Chepak and husband Robert of Hypoluxo, Florida; nine grandchildren,
Kevin McNees of Clarinda, Iowa, Julie Robinson of Bedford, Iowa, Mark McNees,
Atlantic, Iowa, Senior Master Sergeant Dale McNees of Mildenhal RAF Base,
England, Lisa Richards of Albany, California, Curtiss Richey of Fremont, Nebraska,
Debra Guerin of Mesa, Arizona, Delbert Richey of Palmer, Alaska, and Robert Chepak,
London, England; fifteen great grandchildren; ten great, great, grandchildren
and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
