Abernathy, Ruth Eva -

Ruth Eva Abernathy, the only daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth Grigsby Abernathy was born at Lenox, Iowa July 16, 1899.  She died at the Lenox Care Center of Wednesday, May 16, 1984 at the age of eight-four years and ten months.

Ruth grew to womanhood in the Lenox community where she attended school, graduating from Lenox High School with the Class of 1917. She was employed at the post office and also at the telephone office for several years. Ruth was a member of the First Christian

Church in Lenox.

She will be remembered by her friends for the tidy hone she kept and for the flowers, especially roses, she liked to grow.

Preceding her in death were her parents and four brothers. She has no survivors.

Services were held Friday, May 18 at 9:30 a.m. at the East Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Pastor Jack Cutbirth of the First

Christian Church officiated.

Casket bearers were Orville Williams, George Dunbar, Bob Lockhart, Bud Carey, George Reynolds and Lloyd Hamblin.

Ambrose, Karl Wilden -

Karl Wilden Ambrose, the son of William B. and Lizzie Froescher Ambrose, was born in Adams county, Iowa July 15,

1926. He died at his home in Lenox, Iowa on Wednesday, February 29, 1984 at the age of fifty-seven years, seven months

and fourteen days.

Karl grew to manhood in the Lenox community and attended school at Mercer No. 7 and Mercer No. 8. He was united in

marriage with Ruth Knorr at Fontanelle, Iowa on February 14, 1948.

Following their marriage, Karl and Ruth farmed near Lenox for several years. He later was employed for twenty-five years as a journeyman lineman for Local #55 of the A.F.L.-C.l.O. in Des Moines, Iowa.

Preceding him in death were his father and one brother, Amos.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Lenox; his daughter, Grace Ambrose of Des Moines; two sons, Allen of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Jonney of Mountain Home, Idaho; four grandchildren; his mother, Lizzie Ambrose of Lenox; a sister, Lucille Davis of Corning,

Iowa; two brothers, Reldon and Jasper, both of Lenox; as well as other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3 in the West Fairview Cemetery at Lenox. Pastor Harold McMullen

of Fontanelle, Iowa officiated.

Casket bearers were Warren Killam, Alwin Zimmerline Jr., Larry Buckner, Mark Ambrose, Dallas Davis, and Orville Williams.

Larkin-Bender Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of arrangements.

Beadel, Kenneth Dean -

Services for Kenneth Dean Beadel were held Friday, April 13 at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox, Iowa.

Kenneth, the son of Walter R. and Delia M. Belding Beadel, was born July 28, 1914 in Taylor county, Iowa. He died at the

Clearview Nursing Home in Clearfield, Iowa on Tuesday, April 10, 1984 at the age of sixty-nine years, eight months

and twelve days. He had been ill for a short time.

Kenneth was united in marriage with Deva M. Younkin on April 14, 1935.

He was a kind man and a hard worker who loved the outdoors. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a daughter, Betty Joan.

Survivors are his four sons, Bill Dean and wife, Patsy of Lenox, Harold Eugene and wife, Darlene of Buckner, Missouri,

Robert Duane and wife, Candy of Kansas City, Missouri, and Melvin LeRoy of Maryville, Missouri; his daughter, Patricia

Lee Dye and husband, Curtis of St. Joseph, Missouri; grandchildren, Regina and Robert Beadel, Shelley and Christopher

Beadel, Janette and LeRoy Beadel, Robert Beadel, Jr., and Terry, Curtis Gene, and Kevin Dye; greatgranddaughters,

Christine, Valerie, Dawn, and Heather Dye; two brothers, Reldon and wife. Katherine of Lenox and Wendell and wife,

Nadine of Oskaloosa. Iowa.

Reverend Lester Hesseltine, pastor of the Lenox United Methodist Church, officiated at the 2 p.m. services. Music was

by Norma Paymal, organist, and Marilyn Beck and Diana Maharry, vocalists. The selections were "The Old Rugged Cross"

and "Ivory Palaces'

Casket bearers were Kenny Black, Paul Calvin, James Calvin, Howard Elder, Bill Barrans, and Bill Reed.

Interment was in the East Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Beemer, Ruth Cochran -

Ruth Beemer, the daughter of Joseph and Eleanor Mary Turner Cochran, was born in Taylor county, Iowa March 25, 1894. She

died at the Lenox Care Center, Lenox, Iowa on Friday, March 30, 1984, five days after celebrating her ninetieth birthday with

relatives and friends.

Ruth attended school in Taylor county and graduated from Keister's Ladies Tailoring College in Omaha, Nebraska in March, 1914.

She was united in marriage with Herman Judson Beemer December 24, 1917 at St. Joseph, Missouri. They made their home on a

farm near Lenox until moving into town in 1951.

Mrs. Beemer was an active member of the First Christian Church in Lenox all of her adult life, and also was a member of

the GV Club and the Order of the Eastern Star for many years.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Herman in 1966; her parents; two sisters, Ida Bennett and Effie Black; three

brothers, Frank, William, and Harry Cochran; and a greatgranddaughter, Melissa Busby.

Survivors include her two daughters, Eleanor Carlson and husband, Kenneth and Genevieve Stogdill and husband,

Blaine, all of Des Moines; a niece, Sharon Cochran Klinzman, who made her home with Ruth at the age of five, and her

husband, Lloyd; two grandchildren, James Allen Carlson and wife, Miriam and Janice Ann Busby and husband, Gary;

three greatgrandchildren, John Carlson and Travis and Nicole Busby; a sister, Florence McKelvey of Monroe, Michigan;

two brothers, John Cochran of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Glenn Cochran of Salem, Oregon; as well as other relatives and

many friends.

Services were held Monday, April 2 at the First Christian Church in Lenox at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Jack Cutbirth officiated.

Music was by Mildred Walter, organist. Vocalists were Marilyn Beck and Diana Maharry. The selections were

"Ivory Palaces" and "Precious Memories".

Casket bearers were Reldon Huntington, Richard Notz, Jim Rice, C.B. Adams, James Carlson and Gary Busby.

Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Boltinghouse, Kenneth LeRoy -

Kenneth LeRoy Boltinghouse, the son of Alonzo and Eva Leonard Boltinghouse, was born March 17, 1913 at Gravity, Iowa.

He died at Lenox, Iowa on Thursday, April 19, 1984 at the age of seventy-one years, one month and two days.

He attended schools in Taylor county and at an early age began attending the Blue Grove Christian Church. Kenneth

became a member of the Lenox First Christian Church in 1941 and had served as a deacon for over thirty years.

He was united in marriage with Maysel Grimm on September 3, 1936 at Rockville, Maryland. They moved in 1940

to the farm southwest of Lenox where they resided for forty-two years until moving into Lenox two years ago.

Kenneth took great pride in his farms and his livestock. His greatest joy was being with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his father in 1950 and his mother in 1970.

Survivors include his wife, Maysel of Lenox; his daughter, Adena Kay Fraley, her husband, Paul, and their children,

John Houston and Elizabeth Ann, of Sylvania. Ohio; two brothers, Llyle of Catonsville, Maryland and Travis of Loveland,

Colorado; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.

Services were held Monday, April 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Lenox.

Pastor Jack Cutbirth and Pastor Don Jensen officiated.

Music was by Mildred Walter, organist, and Shirley Riley and Karen Shawler, vocalists. The selections were

"In The Garden" and "Beyond The Sunset".

Casket bearers were Donald Donaldson, James Boltinghouse, Harley Allen Porter, George Wurster, Mervin Shawler,

and Kenneth John. Honorary bearers were Delman Brown, Marion Spicer, Harold Beck, and Dwain Boyer.

Interment was in the North Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Ferguson, Stella May Donaldson -

Final rites for Stella May Ferguson were held on Saturday, March 10 at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox

at 1 p.m. Reverend Lester Hesseltine, pastor of the Lenox United Methodist Church officiated.

Music was by Kathryn Wilson, organist.

Casket bearers were Clifford Preston, Paul Brokaw, Boyd Mellon. Brian Evans, Bud Carey, Dale Purdum, and Jim Boiler.

Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Mrs. Ferguson, the daughter of David S. and Emma Preston Donaldson, was born May 13, 1894 on a farm near Lenox in

Taylor county, Iowa. She died on Wednesday, March 7, 1984 at the Lenox Care Center at the age of eighty-nine years, nine

months and twenty-four days.

She was united in marriage with Hamilton John Ferguson on March 10, 1915 at the home of her parents near Lenox. Stella

made her home in the Lenox community all of her life and was a member of the United Methodist Church for many years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and a brother, Arthur.

Survivors include her son, Dick Ferguson and his wife, Dorothy, of Des Moines, Iowa; her daughter, Maxine Swanson

and husband, Vern, of West Des Moines; five grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Graveside services for Irene Gold, age 69 of Council Bluffs, will be held at the Conway Cemetery on Friday, February

17 at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Gold, a former Sharpsburg resident, died suddenly February 13.

Haynes, Harry -

Harry Haynes, of Brookings, Oregon died Monday, April 30, 1984. The son of Mr. and Mrs. C.V. Hayns, he was born at

Lenox, Iowa on July 22, 1900.

Harry was united in marriage with Myrtle Lourie on July 26, 1921,

Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, three brothers and a sister.

Survivors include his sister, Thelma Larimer of Theodosia, Missouri; his brother, Donald Haynes of Huntington Beach,

California; nephews, Fred Haynes, Dean Larimer, both of Lenox, Milt Larimer of Stuart, Iowa, J.D. Larimer of Arkansas,

and Harold Larimer of Missouri; three nieces, Janice Bladen, Margaret Bolinger and Marcia Bolinger, all of Creston; other

relatives and friends.

Mr. Haynes was cremated at his request.

Kilby, Rhoda Mae -

Rhoda Mae Kilby, the daughter of William and Frances Loretta Hockabout Kilby, was born at Lenox, Iowa on May 6, 1896.

She died at the Rosary Hospital in Corning on Monday, February 6, 1984 at the age of eighty-seven years and nine months.

Mae was baptized in the First Christian Church in Lenox at an early age. When the family moved to a farm southwest of

town, she transferred her membership to the Blue Grove Christian Church. Upon returning to Lenox, Mae again became

a member of the First Christian Church where she had been an active member since that time.

She was employed as a dental assistant in Lenox from 1921 until 1960. Mae was always busy helping others and loved to

raise flowers in her garden.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister, Ruth Pearl Kilby; and two brothers, Leslie James Kilby and Glen William

Kilby.

Survivors include her sisters, Vera and Bernice Kilby of Lenox; four nieces, four nephews, many greatnieces and

nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Services were held on Thursday, February 9 at the First Christian Church in Lenox at 2 p.m. Pastor Jack Cutbirth and

Pastor Donald Jensen officiated.

Music was provided by Mildred Walter, organist, and Shirley Rogers and Karen Shawler, vocalists. Selections

were "Near to the Heart of God" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere".

Casket bearers were Mervin Shawler, George Wurster, Michael Cheese, Dwain Boyer, George Dunbar, and Fred Helm.

Honorary bearers were Richard Walter, Ray Cheese, Kenneth Boltinghouse, and Harley Allen Porter.

Interment was in the East Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

O'Riley, Gladys Daniel -

Services for Gladys O'Riley of Lenox were held Tuesday April 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home.  Reverend

Elmer West, pastor of the Salem Church of the Brethren, officiated.

Mrs O'Riley, the daughter of Charles and Mary Rosetta Archer Daniel, was born December 5, 1913 in Grand River township, Adair

County, Iowa.  She died at her home in Lenox on Easter Sunday April 23 at the age of eighty-four years, four months and seventeen

days.

Gladys was united in marriage with Edward O'Riley on December 21, 1932 at Prescott, Iowa.  She was a member of the Salem Church

of the Brethren near Lenox.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, two grandsons and eight brothers and sisters.

Survivors are two daughters, Roberta (Mrs Bill Young) of Lenox and Nila O'Riley of Albert Lea, Minnesota, two sons, Dale O'Riley of Burlington, Iowa and Richard O'Riley of Dumont, Iowa; five grandsons, one granddaughter, one great granddaughter, a sister, Virgie

(Mrs Clyde) Fudge of Boulder, Colorado, other relatives and friends.

Music at the services was provided by Norma Paymal, organist.  The selections were "In The Garden", "Amazing Grace" and "He

Touched Me".

Casket bearers were Donald Keast Jr., Ron Fulk, Ron Wurster, Bill Miller, Ronald Rogers and Leslie West.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Prescott, Iowa.

Pennebaker, Dorothy Marie Lykins -

Dr. Dorothy Marie Pennebaker of Creston, Iowa died Wednesday, March 7, 1984 at the Greater Community Hospital

in Creston at the age of fifty-nine years. The daughter of Buford and Bessie Lykins, she was born in DeKalb, Missouri

on April 18, 1924.

Dorothy spent her youth in DeKalb. She attended college in Maryville, Missouri and graduated from Palmer College of

Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1948.

Dorothy was united in marriage with G.R. Pennebaker on September 16, 1945 in Lenox, Iowa. Following graduation in

1948, the couple lived for a brief time in Abington, Illinois, moving to the Creston area in 1951. They operated their own

chiropractic clinic in Creston.

Dr. Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Creston, Vesta Chapter of the O.E.S., Chautauqua, and the

Morning Worship Church Circle. She was also the Mother Advisor for the Order of Rainbow for Girls.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. G.R. Pennebaker of Creston; a son, Gary of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; two daughters,

Mrs. Lynn (Glennda) Adair of Sountais, California and Mrs. Darren (Gayla) Buckman of Plano, Texas; five grandchildren;

her father, Buford Lykins of DeKalb, Missouri; four brothers, Lonnie Lykins of DeKalb, Missouri, Tom Lykins of St.

Joseph, Missouri, Denny Lykins of Los Angeles, California, and Kelly Lykins of Utah; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Jean)

Watkins of Tarkio, Missouri and Mrs. T.W. (Shirley) Osborn of St. Joseph, Missouri; her father-in-law and mother-in-law,

Dr. E.R. and Bessie Pennebaker of Lenox, Iowa as well as other relatives and friends.

Services were held Saturday, March 10 at the Creston United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Roger Russell

officiating. Music was by Mrs. Gene Boyd, organist.

Casket bearers were Melvin Davis, Don Burich, Arnold Berts, Clair Boyd, R.W. Robinson, and Allen Dougherty.

Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery at Creston.

Keating-Lindsay Funeral Home of Creston was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established to the Creston United Methodist Church.

Schoenhair, John Karl -

John Karl Schoenhair, the son of John K and Barbara Rath Schoenhair, was born on a farm southwest of Lenox, Iowa May 16,

1901.  He died at St Joseph's in Mason City, Iowa on Thursday February 16, 1984 at the age of eighty-two years and nine months.

John was raised and attended school in the Lenox Community.  He was united in marriage with Marjorie A Andrews on June 23,

1931.  They farmed east of Lenox until retiring and moving into town.

John served his country during World War II with the United States Army.  He was a member of Parkinson Post #250, Lenox American Legion and was also a fifty year member of the Oddfellows.  He had resided the past two years at the Oddfellow Home in Mason

City.  He enjoyed traveling as long as his health permitted.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his son, Kent in September of 1967, a brother, Fred and a sister Marie Travers.

Survivors include his daughter, Marcella Kerns of Clearfield, Iowa, her family, Steven, Suzanne, Kevin and his wife, Debra and their

son Evan and Dennis and wife Linda and their children, Amy and Shane, his daughter-in-law, Pat [?], her children, Karla and Kathy

Schoenhair of Parole, Iowa, three brothers, Raymond Schoenhair, Harry and wife Frieda, all of Creston and Clarence and wife Marjorie of Omaha, Nebraska, two sisters, Irene Young and husband Jack of Creston and Dora Harper of Imperial, Nebraska, other relatives

and friends.

Services were held Sunday, February 19 at 2 p.m. at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox.  Reverend Jim Turner officiated.

Music was provided by Roberta Lockhart, The special selection was "How Great Thou Art".

Casket bearers were Kenny Black, George Reynolds, Lyle John, Dean Larimer, Bill Sawyer and Tom Lynam.

Military rites were conducted by Parkinson Post #250 Lenox American Legion.  Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery at

Lenox.

Sheldon, Mildred Baumann -

Services for Mildred Sheldon, 74, who died Wednesday, March 21 at the Porter Memorial Hospital in Denver, Colorado,

will be held on March 31 at 2 p.m. at the Larkln-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox. Pastor Jack Cutbirth will officiate.

Mildred was born June 28, 1909 in Ringgold county, Lincoln township, Iowa. She later moved to Lenox and graduated from

Lenox High School in 1928.

She was married to Dale E. Sheldon on August 14, 1951 in Golden, Colorado. She was employed for eighteen years by

the Mountain Bell Telephone Company.

Mildred was the daughter of Arthur and Leta Shall Baumann.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Darlene Baumann. She is survived by her husband, Dale

E. Sheldon of Denver, Colorado.

Burial will be in the Rising Sun Cemetery on Saturday, March 31.

Sheldon, Mildred Baumann -

Final rites for Mildred Sheldon were held at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox on Saturday, March 31 at 1 p.m.

Pastor Jack Cutbirth of the First Christian Church officiated.

Mrs. Sheldon, the daughter of Arthur and Leta Shall Baumann, was born June 28, 1909 on a farm in Lincoln Township,

Ringgold county, near Diagonal, Iowa. She died at the Porter Memorial Hospital in Denver, Colorado on Wednesday, March

21, 1984 at the age of seventy four years, eight months, and twenty-three days.

Mildred grew to womanhood on the farm and in the Lenox community where she graduated from Lenox High School in

1928. Following various employments in this area, she moved to Denver in 1943. She was employed as a long distance

operator for Mountain Bell Telephone Company for eighteen years until failing health forced her to retire. She was

united in marriage with Dale E. Sheldon at Golden, Colorado on August 14, 1951. They made their home in Denver.

Preceding her in death were her father in 1964, her mother in 1965 and a sister, Darlene Baumann in 1974.

Casket bearers were Russell Davenport, Roy Davenport, Harley Allen Porter, Myrle Henderson, Harley Morley, and

Kenneth Young.

Music was by Norma Paymal, organist. Vocalists were Billie Jean Barker and Marilyn Beck. The selections were "Beyond

The Sunset" and "No Night There".

Interment was in the Rising Sun Cemetery at Diagonal.

Wray, Lela Grace Carmichael -

Final rites were conducted Tuesday, March 13 at the First Baptist Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa for Lela Grace Wray, 86.

She was born in Justice, Ohio on September 10, 1897 to Isaac and Cordelia Carmichael. Mrs. Wray died Friday, March 9 at

the Cedar Falls Health Care Center at the age of eighty-six years, five months and 28 days.

Lela was united in marriage to Guy Wray, Sr. on December 25, 1917 in Pickering, Missouri. Guy Sr. preceded Lela in death

on October 27, 1978. Her parents and three brothers also preceded her in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Wray, Sr. made their home in Lenox from 1942 through 1946.

Survivors include seven sons, Paul Wray of Milliken, Colorado; Hugh Wray of Loveland, Colorado; Guy Wray, Jr. of Cedar Falls,

Iowa; William Wray of Fort Collins, Colorado; Robert Wray and H. Dean Wray, both of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Doyle Wray of

Princeton, West Virginia; two daughters, Doris Loger and Mary Taylor, both of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one brother, Perry

Carmichael of Cheyenne, Wyoming 28 grandchildren, and 26 greatgrandchildren; and many friends.

Reverend James Troxel and Reverend Herb Cross officiated at services held March 13 in the First Baptist Church of Cedar

Falls. Iowa. Music was by Mrs. Carol Beck, organist and Mrs. Doris Rhum, vocalist. Selections were "In the Garden" and "How

Great Thou Art". A poem, entitled. "Lady Bird", written by a friend of Mrs. Wray's, Norma Stirm, was read during the service.

Casket bearers were Ron Wray, John Straube, Jr., Darrell Ackerson, Dallas Ackerson, Michael Carlo, and George

DeBord. Honorary bearers were Dan Wray, Steve Wray, Scott Wray, Mark Wray, Timothy Wray, Douglas Ackerson,

and Craig Harris.

Interment was in the Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Wurster, Sheila Laura Hays -

Sheila Laura Wurster, the second child of William and Evalena Hays, was born July 7, 1902 in Taylor county, Iowa,

southeast of Bedford. She died at the Lenox Care center in Lenox, Iowa on Thursday, April 5,1984 at the age of eighty-one

yean, eight months and twenty-nine days.

Sheila joined the Baptist Church as a child, later transferring her membership to the First Baptist Church in Avon

Park, Florida.

She was united in marriage with Herman Adam Wurster on August 20, 1924. They lived on the farm near the Lenox and

Clearfield communities until retiring to Avon Park in 1969.

Sheila devoted many years of her life to the betterment of the Polled Hereford cattle breed. She spent many hours reading

and studying the Hereford magazines and was happiest when at her husband's side attending cattle shows and sales, as long as her health permitted. She valued the friendships made during those years.

Although for many years she was unable to be active in the community, Sheila always kept in contact with her grandchildren

many miles away. She was interested in their welfare and gave them encouraging words along the way, often expressing her

appreciation and pride in them.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Herman; her parents; a sister, Verla Ecklin; and a grandson, Dennis Eugene

Wurster.

Survivors include two sons, Willis and wife, Lois of Clearfield and Howard and wife, Dorothy of Tingley; a daughter,

Twylla of Clearfield; seven grandchildren; eleven greatgrandchildren; a sister, Berthel Ledgerwood of Riverside, California;

two brothers, Argyle Hays of Dallas Center, Iowa and Virgil Hays of Diagonal, Iowa; a host of nieces, nephews and

other relatives; as well as many friends.

Services were held at the Clearfield United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 7 at 2 p.m. Reverend Jim Turner

officiated. Music was by Mrs. Fred Scott and John Allen.

Casket bearers were LeRoy Beggs, Ivan Stephens, Forrest Harvey, Charles Brott, Guy Henderson, and Kenneth Matthews.

Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Wilson-Watson Service of Clearfield was in charge of arrangements.
