Buckner, Howard M -
Howard
M. Buckner, 22, a sergeant in the U. S. air force, who was home on a Christmas
leave, was killed in a one-car accident Monday night. He was alone in the car
when he lost control of it on a hill on highway 92 one-quarter mile east of Fontannelle.
The
youth was a nephew of Mrs. Ruth Ambrose of Lenox.

Mrs.
Frank (Nell) Consolver, former Lenox and Clearfield
area resident, died December 20 in Nebres Memorial
Hospital at Deming, New Mexico. Interment was at Deming cemetery.
Survivors
include one daughter, two grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, of Deming,
New Mexico; four brothers, Frank, Ed, Paul and Ray Medders
and
one sister, Mrs, Lillie Norton of Afton, Iowa.

Laughlin, Lawrence -
Lawrence
Laughlin, 59 years old, a former resident of Lenox, passed away Nov. 11, 1967
from a heart attack in Denver, Colo., where he had made his home
for
many years. Burial was in Fort Logan National Cemetery.
Mr.
Laughlin was a brother of Mrs. Roy Bolte, Mrs. Dewey
Evans and John Laughlin of Lenox. Mrs. Bolte flew
from Tampa, Fla., to Denver to attend the services.

Clara
Miller, 79, mother of Barney Miller of Lenox, died at the nursing home in
Corning Saturday night, January 13th. She had been in failing health for some
time and had been a resident of the nursing home since late summer.
Surviving
include four sons, Barney of Lenox, Lawrence of Sigourney, Iowa, Paul of Omaha,
Nebr., and Robert of Richland, Washington. Also two daughters, Irene Bellus of Omaha, and Sister Miriam Claire, of Ottumwa,
besides her husband, Harry Miller.
Funeral
services were conducted from St. Patrick's Church in Corning, Tuesday morning
With Father Weise, officiating.
Burial was at Calvary cemetery in
Corning.

Joseph
Christopher Miller son of August and Anna Schmitt Miller, was born in Creston,
Iowa on March 31, 1888, and passed away November 24 1967, at the
age
of 79 years seven months, and 23 days.
Following
schooling at St. Malachy's in Creston, he was engaged
in greenhouse operation and carpentry with his family.
As a
young man he joined the Knights of Columbus and recently received a 50-year
membership pin.
On
February 10, 1915, he was united in marriage to Mary A. Sapp at St. Patrick's Church
in Lenox. To this union was born one daughter who died in infancy,
also
two sons, Eugene and Raymond both of whom survive.
Other
survivors besides his wife, Mary, include one daughter-in-law, Rose, seven
grandchildren, and one sister, Mary, of Eugene, Oregon.
Mr.
Millers life was spent close to Nature in farm work and gardening. His greatest
pride was in those things developed with his own hands. He had been in
failing
health since 1951 due to a heart condition and a series of light
strokes, the greatest of which came on October 31st of this year.
Funeral
services were held at St. Patrick's Church in Lenox Monday, November 27th with
Father LaVerne Wingert,
officiating.
Bearers
were Leo Ryan, Charles Smith, Wilbur Blair, Leo Bridgeman, Gerald Rainforth and Hubert Bradley, Sr.
Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in
Creston.

Clifford
Allen Million, son of Frank and Emma Scott Million, was born at Clarinda, Iowa.
October 30, 1891 and passed away December 4, 1967 at the Rosary
Hospital
in Corning at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 5 days.
He
served his country in the United States Army during World War I.
On
August 15, 1928 he was united in marriage to Barbara Ellen Padgett. He worked
as a carpenter until his health forced him to give up his work.
He
was preceded to death by his father in 1940, his mother in 1965 and a sister,
Laura Waudby in 1937.
Survivors
in addition to his wife, Barbara, are a son, Travis Gaylon of Euphnata, Washington; two daughters: Mrs. William
Schulze of Jefferson, Iowa,
and
Mrs. John Kitterman of Bellevue, Nebraska; three
grandchildren, Clifford, Connie and Kenneth Wayne and two great grandchildren;
also six brothers:
Dean,
Charlie and Burl of Bedford, Murl of Dodge City,
Kansas, Scott of Nevada, Missouri, Dale of Rush Center, Kansas; three sisters:
Fern Moore of New
Plymouth,
Idaho, Dare Hall of Richards, Missouri, Kathryn Roberts of Nevada, Missouri;
also many nieces and nephews.
Services
were held at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, Iowa, December 7, 1967 at 2 p. m. by Rev. Edward S. Tschetter. Interment was at
Lexington
Cemetery where Military Honors were conducted by the Gravity Legion Post No.
57.

Harry
Hilton Moore, son of James and Carolyn Thomas Moore, was born on November 14,
1882, at Prescott, Iowa, and passed away at the Rosary Hospital,
Corning,
Iowa, shortly after admission on Monday evening, December 4, 1967, at the age
of 85 years.
Harry
was united in marriage to Mildred Fern Fisher at Corning, Iowa in 1903. They
spent most of their married life as
farmers in the community South
of
Nodaway and North of Guss.
Mrs.
Moore passed away February 14, 1938. In 1957, he retired and moved to his home
in Villisca. Mr. Moore had been in ill health for 3 years and since March he
had resided at the [?] Rest Home in Villisca.
He
united with the Nodaway Methodist Church when a resident of that community.
In
addition to his wife, Mildred, he was preceded in death by one son, LaVerne; two brothers; one sister; and one grandchild.
He
is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Eva Hartje, Adair,
Iowa; five grandchildren, Mrs. Carol Shuler, Corning, Iowa, Mrs. Judith Brown,
Sharpsburg, Iowa, Mrs. Fern Travis, Lenox, Iowa, Martin Moore, Villisca, and
Russell Heaton, Anita, Iowa.
Funeral
services were conducted Thursday, December 7th at 2 :30 p.m., from the Wolfe
Funeral Home with Rev. George S. Snyder officiating,
Bearers
were Ronald Stewart, Lloyd McCullough, Everett Barr, Manford Sanders, Martin Taylor and Ralph Arnott.
Music
was furnished by Mrs. Mable Dunn, organist, and Mrs. Carolyn Harris, soloist.
Burial
was in the Guss, Iowa Cemetery.

Mrs.
Pauline Paymal, 91, a long time resident of Lenox,
died Thursday, November 23rd, at a Coming rest home where she had spent the
past few weeks.
Mrs. Paymal was born Jan. 28, 1876. She had been cared for
in the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Paymal prior to going to the
rest
home.
Survivors
include her son, Eugene.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, several years ago.
Funeral
services were conducted from the Bender Funeral home in Lenox Saturday November
23th at 2:00 p. m., with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor
of
the
Methodist Church officiating.
Bearers
were Ray Cheese, JD Arneal, Geo Barrams,
Wray Walter, Lonnie Barker and Claude Dixon.
Burial was in the Fairview cemetery at
Lenox.

Bernice
Quinn, daughter of Anthony and Dora Schmitt, was born Nov. 16, 1901 in Lenox,
Iowa. She passed away Dec. 17, 1967 at the Lenox Rest Home.
On
Feb. 21, 1921, she was united in marriage to William Quinn at Creston, Iowa. To
this union one daughter was born.
Surviving
her are her husband, William, her daughter, Phyllis and her husband, Edgar
Holly of Bisbee, Ariz., 2 granddaughters, Mrs. Walter Anderson
Jr.
and Terri Holly, both of Bisbee, Ariz., one sister Margaret of Des Moines, 3
brothers, Hugh of Omaha, Nebr., Don of Des Moines and Floyd of Eau
Gallie,
Florida.
She
was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lawrence.
Funeral
services were held Dec. 19, 1967 at 10:00 a. m. at St. Patrick's Church in Lenox,
Iowa. Rosary was recited at 8 p. m. Dec. 18 at Bender's Funeral
Parlor
in Lenox. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery at Lenox, Iowa.
Pallbearers
were Lee Parsons, Bill Beach, Dean Larimer, Harry Sprague, Carl Cordell, and
Arthur Jones.

Mrs.
Dennis Ryan, 83, a longtime resident of the Corning community, died at the
Rosary hospital Monday morning, Jan. 15.
Funeral
services were held Wed. at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church at Corning. Rev. Fr.
Jacob Weiss officiated. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Rosary was
said
at 8 p.m. Tues. at Roland's Funeral Home.
Mrs.
Ryan is survived by three sons, Leo and Eddie Ryan of Lenox and Louis Ryan of
Massena, and one sister, Mrs. Margery Sweet of Des Moines.

Ryan,
Agnes Cotter -
Mrs.
Dennis B. Ryan passed away Monday, Jan. 15 at Rosary Hospital after a 2 week
illness. She was born on Oct. 23, 1884 and lived all her life in the
Corning
community. She was a life time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where
services were conducted by Rev. Jacob Weiss with Rev. LaVerne Wingert
as
visiting priest.
Survivors
are one daughter, Margery Sweet of Des Moines, Leo and Eddie of Lenox. She was
preceded in death by her three sons, Lewis of Massena,
husband
Dennis, three children, Gene, Ethel and Harold.
Six
grandsons served as pall bearers. They are as follows, Bob Ryan, Dan Ryan,
Larry Ryan, Richard Ryan, Jack Ryan and Joe Sweet. Two grandsons
Douglas
Ryan, in Germany and Michael Ryan in Vietnam, were Honorary pall bearers.
Another grandson, Joe Ryan, with Eddie Jones, a distant relative, served
as
Altar boys.
Burial was in Calvary cemetery.

Elmer
Shaffer, 75, a former resident of Clearfield, passed away at the Van Buren County
Hospital in Keosauqua, Iowa on December 24, 1967. He had made
his
home for a number of years on a farm near Birmingham, Iowa.
He
was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, on November 20, 1967 and his parents,
Samuel and Mary Shaffer.
He
is survived by his stepmother, Mae Shaffer of Carmen, Illinois; one sister,
Maude German of San Luis Obispo, California; four brothers, Howard Shaffer of
Centerville, Iowa, Beryl Shaffer of Omaha, Nebraska, Floyd Shaffer of
Burlington, Iowa, and Earl Shaffer of Lenox, Iowa; three half sisters, Lela
Heck of Burlington, Iowa, Zatha Burroughs of
Davenport, Iowa, Louise Stimpson of Carmen, Illinois;
one half brother, Roy Shaffer of Lakewood California, also a number of nieces
and nephews.

Lena Stamets, daughter of Christopher and Katherine Wurster was born at Lenox, Iowa on January 9, 1888 and
passed away at Northgate Manor at Corning, Iowa on December 10, 1967 at the age
of 79 years and 11 months.
On
February 14, 1907 she was united in marriage to Melvin Stamets who preceded her in death in 1953 She was also preceded in death by her parents
and three sisters, Kate Eberle, Elizabeth Haering and Amelia Basler of
Lenox and three brothers, Harry Wurster and Jack Wurster of Lenox and Geo Wurster of Roundup, Montana.
She
is survived by a brother Fred Wurster of Lenox and
many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral
services were conducted from the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox on Tuesday, Dec.
12 at 2 p. m; with Rev. Floyd Newbrough officiating.
Bearers
were Alonzo Walter, Vernon Walter, Richard Young, LaVern Roll, Robert Basler and Harvey Wurster.
Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in
Lenox.

Caroline Wurster, daughter of John and Caroline Grotzinger Wurster, was born in
Lenox, Iowa on August 5, 1884 and passed away at Rosary Hospital in
Corning,
Iowa on November 19, 1967 at the age of 83 years.
On
May 7, 1919 she was united in marriage to Lloyd A. Thompson, who preceded her
in death on May 5, 1937. To this union was born one daughter,
Myrtle
(Mrs. Harold Carey) of Lenox.
She
is survived by her daughter and son-in-law and 2 grandsons, Jim and Jack Carey
and one brother, Ben Wurster.
Besides
her husband and parents, 4 brothers: John, Charles, Ira, George & 2
sisters: Marie McGinnis and Pauline Wurster preceded
her in death.
Mrs.
Thompson, at an early age, became a member of the Presbyterian Church in Lenox
and later transferred her membership to the United Presbyterian
Church
when the 2 churches merged.
She
spent all her life in the vicinity of Lenox and Clearfield.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday afternoon November 21 at the United Presbyterian
Church, conducted by Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor of
the
Methodist
Church. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery.

Louis
N. Walter, 88, died Wednesday, January 3 at the Lenox Nursing home where he had
been residing the past few years.
Louis
Noah Walter was born October 24, 1880, in Adams Co., Iowa. He was the seventh
of eleven children of Henri and Louisa Schafrath Walter. Mr.
Walter
received his education in the Mercer Township schools of Adams County.
On
June 25th, 1903, he was united in marriage to Lulu B. Ely. To this union were
born six children, three of whom died in infancy. His principal interests
in
life were operating the farm on which he was born and providing for his family
in sickness and in health. He was a proud man - a man of strong convictions
who
accepted the many challenges God placed at his door step.
On
retirement he moved from the farm to Lenox. Failing health forced him to an
inactive life, but the desire to keep busy still remained. He had been a
patient at the Lenox Nursing Home for the past five years.
Mr.
Walter was a member of the Lenox Methodist Church and a 50 year member of the
Masonic Lodge.
Preceding
him in death are his parents, five brothers, two sisters and first born son,
Clifford. He leaves to mourn his passing
his wife Lulu, two children,
Ethel
Grant of Long Beach, California, and Julian of Lenox, four grandchildren,
Marvin Walter of Bellevue, Washington, Jean Walter, Iowa City, Joan
Lucas,
Ames and Sandra DeYoung, Alhambia,
California, three great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
Of
his original family, he is survived by a brother Ben of Lenox and 2 sisters,
Delia and Maleta of California.
His spirit
and courage were a bright light which strengthened his family on many dark
days. On January 3, 1968, this spirit returned unto God, who gave it.
Funeral
services were held at the Methodist Church in Lenox Saturday afternoon at 2 p.
m. with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor, officiating.
Music
was furnished by Norma Paymal and Lloyd Whipp. Bearers were Dale, Wray, Lonzo, Orval, Harry and Glendon Walter.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

John
Fred Wurster, son of Christopher and Katherine Wurster was born at Lenox, Iowa August 29, 1887 and passed
away at the Rosary Hospital December 16, 1967 at it the age of 80 years; 3
months, 17 days.
At
an early age, he united with the Presbyterian Church of Lenox.
On
November 26, 1913 he was married to Mary Lee of Lenox.
He
is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Clifford and Russell of Lenox; three
daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Crisp of Mundelein, Ill., Mrs. Minnie Ashman of
Oskaloosa, la., Mrs. Ruth Reynolds, of Lenox, la.; three sons-in-law, Vernon
Crisp, Bill Ashman and George Reynolds; two daughters-in-law, Irene and Mary Wurster; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two
brothers, Sam and Willie, both of Lenox; three sisters, Clara of Creston, Mrs.
Paulina Froemel of Omaha, Nebr., and
Anna
Milliken of Lenox.
His
parents and one grandson preceded him in death.
He
farmed west of Lenox until 1946 when he retired and moved to Lenox. He will be
greatly missed by the family and a host of friends.
