Boone, Glenn A -
Final
rites were held here Saturday for Glenn A. Boone of Herman, Missouri.
Mr.
Boone, son of Willard and Deborah McCarty Boone, was born Aug. 30, 1894 at
Kahoka, Mo., and died at Herman, Mo., May 10, 1972 at the age of 77 years, 8 months
and 10
days.
He
was united in marriage to Lila Sarah Rhoades, Feb. 2, 1917 at Eleary, Oh., and to this union four daughters were born.
They are Glenna, Norma, Louise and Doris.
Mr.
Boone engaged in farming until retirement and had spent the last years of his
life at Herman, Mo.
He
was preceded in death by his wife Lila in July of 1950, a sister Gertrude and
three brothers.
He
is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Glenna Kitchell of
Omaha, Nebr., Mrs. Duane (Norma) Pitt of Denver, Colo., Miss Louise Boone of
Kodiak, Alaska and Mrs. Stanley (Doris)
Binkholder of Herman, Mo., one sister, Mrs. Anna Smith of Homestead, Florida, four
brothers, Garland of Havre, Mont., Theodore of Kansas City, Mo., Forest of
Sweetwater, Texas and Jewell of Clearwater, Fla, eight
grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were held Saturday afternoon from the Bender Funeral Home with Rev.
Floyd Newbrough officiating.
Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Butler, Harry Warren -
Harry
Warren Butler, son of John C. and Annie Kesiah Agler Butler, was born Dec, 2, 1890 on a farm in Ringgold
county and departed this life Saturday morning, June 3rd,
1972,
at Rosary hospital in Corning, Iowa, at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 1
day.
He
was baptized at an early age in the Prairie Star Presbyterian Church. He also
attended the Prairie Star school and later Lenox high school. He later became a
member of the
Lenox
United Presbyterian church, and for the past two years attended church
regularly at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Lenox with his daughter, Vivian,
which he greatly enjoyed and where he was always welcomed by members and the
pastor, Father Reginald.
He
was a veteran of World War I. Harry enlisted in the U.S. Navy Dec. 13, 1917,
was stationed at Great Lakes, Ill., later transferred to wireless telegraphy
school at Harvard university, released from active duty April 1, 1919 and
received his discharge Sept. 1, 1921. He had been in the reserves four years.
He
was married Oct. 29, 1919, to Miss Mae E. Wilcox, at Creston. One daughter,
Vivian Phyllis, was born to this union. They moved to Kansas City, Mo. in 1921,
where he was a street car conductor and later an operator. The family moved
back to Iowa in 1931 where Mr. Butler was in the insurance business until his
retirement. He also was employed at Dougan
Pharmacy
in Lenox. He and his wife were privileged to observe their golden wedding
anniversary Oct. 29, 1969.
He
was a charter member of Parkinson American Legion Post No. 250 at Lenox,
organized in 1920, Commander in 1934-35 and 35-36, finance officer 2 years,
chaplain 4 years, on
the
building committee, historian, county adjutant about 1945, and district mason
committee in 1956. In 1936 he won an expense paid trip to Waterloo for getting
the largest percentage of membership while Post Commander. He was also grave
registration officer for Lenox. In
April, 1960, Harry, George Davison and Claude Reynolds were presented life
memberships in the American Legion. This is the highest honor which can be
bestowed by a local Legion Post. The life membership plaques are of sterling
silver, engraved with the names and details of presentation of the recipient.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mae in May, 1970, four brothers,
Clarence, Charles, James Earl and Howard, three sisters, Edith Butler Hewitt,
Clara and an infant
sister.
He
is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Vivian Pollard, son-in-law, Robert, 5 sisters,
Mrs. Mabel Wilson, Mrs. Olive Hughes, Mrs. Carrie Dahlberg, of Lenox, Mrs.
Nellie Peterson
of
Avoca, Mrs Mary Jane Jones of Oskaloosa, three
sisters-in-law, Mrs. Cara Butler, Mrs. Irma Wilcox of Lenox, Mrs. Nadine Wilcox
of Ceresco, Nebr., two cousins, Miss Adah Butler and
Mrs. Helen Butler Morris, of Lenox, as well as a large number of other
relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., at Lenox United
Presbyterian Church by the pastor, Rev. Wallace Nelson. Military rites were
conducted at the
cemetery.
There were military pall bearers, a
group of World War I veterans, long time friends. Burial was in Fairview
cemetery beside his wife, Mae.
He
was a good husband and father, made many friends during his lifetime and will be
greatly missed by his family, especially Vivian and Robert, and his many
friends.
Mrs.
Harold Maynes was soloist and sang "There Is No
Night There" and "Beautiful Garden of Prayer." Mrs Robert Lockhart was accompanist.

Clem, Louise Dalhberg -
Mrs.
William Clem, 79, died Friday at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston.
Louise Dalhberg Clem was born June 1, 1892 at Corning, Iowa,
to William and Evelyn Dalhberg. She went to school at
Quincy, Iowa, and to the Teachers Academy in Corning.
She
taught school until she married William Clem on Dec. 10, 1913. They farmed in
the Kent Community until they retired and moved to Lenox, Iowa in January of
1965.
Survivors
include her husband, William, two sons, Earl and his wife, Evelyn of Lenox, Don
and his wife, Creola of Creston, and a daughter, Alta
Jean McCafferty and her
husband,
Robert of Fort Collins, Colorado. Ten grandchildren, Sandra Lininger,
Edwin and Paul Clem, Sharon Longfellow, Linda, Lary,
Bill and Teresa Clem, Vicki, Janet and
Carol McCafferty. Also survivors are 11 great
grandchildren.
She
also leaves to mourn many relatives and a host of friends.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Floyd, Ernest and Virtle and three sisters, Lena Wright, Esther Peak and Ruth
Brown.
Mrs.
Clem joined the Methodist Church at an early age and was an active member all
her life. She was a kind and loving person, a devoted wife and mother.
Funeral
services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m., from the United Methodist
Church with Rev. Floyd Newbrough officiating.
Bearers
were Bill Clem, Edwin Clem, John Larry, Jerry Lininger,
Richard Rundlett and Clifford Huntington.
Burial was in Graceland cemetery at
Creston.

Donaldson,
Arthur J -
Arthur
J. Donaldson, son of David S. and Emma Preston Donaldson, died May 2nd in a
hospital at Yucca Valley, Calif.
He
was born Dec. 24, 1891 in Taylor County and attended rural schools at Mercer
No. 8 in Adams County and Lenox public school. He was a member of Company K in
World
War
I, a member of the American Legion Post No. 469, of Yucca Valley, California.
He
was married to May Miller of Omaha in 1928 and was employed by Orchard and
Wilhelm Co. for over 40 years until retirement when he moved to Yucca Valley to
make his
home.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, wife May who died Nov. 30, 1971.
Survivors
include a sister, Mrs. Hamilton (Stella) Ferguson of Lenox, a niece Mrs. Vern
(M. Ferguson) Swanson, nephew, Richard Ferguson and family both of Des Moines,
two step sons, Clarence Miller, Sr. of Omaha and Art Miller of Yucca Valley,
California, a number of cousins and a host of friends.
Graveside
services were held at Omaha May 8th in charge of the Legion.
Interment was at West Lawn cemetery.

Donaldson, Flora Bernice Eckler -
Mrs.
Flora Donaldson, 95, died Monday at the Rosary hospital in Corning. She had been
a resident of Lenox for many years and had resided at the Lenox Nursing Home in
recent years.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Bender Funeral Home at 2 p.m.
Mrs.
Donaldson is survived by a son, Norval of Eugene,
Ore., two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mrs. Willis Stream is a
niece.
Mrs.
Donaldson was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew about 40 years ago, and
by two children, Harold and Lillian.

Flora Bernics Eckler, daughter of
William and Charlotte Wilcox Eckler was born Nov. 29,
1876 at Lenox, Iowa. She passed away Monday, May 1, 1972 at Rosary hospital in
Corning
at
the age of 95 years, 5 months and 2 days.
On
Jan, 28, 1897 she was married to Andrew Donaldson. To this union three children
were born: Lillian, Harold and Norval.
She
lived nearly all of her life in the Lenox community.
She
was baptized into the fellowship of the Christian Church on April 16, 1932. She
was an active member as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of
the Rebekah
Lodge
and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two children, Lillian
and Harold, and three brothers, Walter, Charles and Roland.
She
is survived by her son, Norval and wife, Marguerite
of Eugene, Oregon, 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren several nieces and
nephews and many friends.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, May 3rd at 2:00 pan. from the Bender Funeral Home
with Rev. Don Briley, pastor of the Christian Church
officiating.
Bearers
were Don Tally, Lyle Nelson, Glen Douglas, Lloyd Streams, Russ Wurster and George Reynolds.
Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Mrs.
Harry (Myrtle) Haynes passed away May 25, 1972, at her home in Brookings,
Oregon.
She
had suffered a severe heart attack on May 6.
Services
were held May 29th at the Brookings Funeral Home.
She was
a former resident of Lenox. Mrs. Haynes was the sister-in-law of Mrs Thelma Larimer and Randall Haynes.

C.
L. Hendrickson, youngest son of Lars G. and Annie S. Johnson Hendrickson, died
Thursday following a lingering illness. He was born near Strand in Adams County
Aug.
28,
1905, and passed away at his home 3 miles east of Sharpsburg, Iowa May 18,
1972. His age was 66 years, 8 months and 20 days.
He
was baptized and a confirmed member of the Strand Lutheran Church in Adams
County.
He
grew to manhood at the farm home of his parents and attended rural school,
graduating from the eighth grade.
Later
he attended and graduated from the American Business college of Omaha, Nebr.
However, his love of nature and farm life called him back to Adams county where
he was
employed
by various farmers for several years.
On
May 18, 1940 he was married to Edith Kimpton of
Gravity, Iowa, and they immediately moved to the farm home they had in
readiness, where he spent the remaining years of
his
life.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. D. J. Ash (Elizabeth)
and five brothers, G. L., Hiram, Leroy, Leon and Marshall.
He
is survived by his wife, Edith, three brothers, John of Grant, Iowa, Peter of
Omaha, Nebr., and Arthur of Emerson, Iowa, three sisters, Mrs. R. C. Wheeler
(Julia) of Hastings,
la.,
Mrs. Lyle Brenton (Mabel) of Corning, Iowa, and Mrs.
Frank Jellnek (Anna) of Omaha, Nebr. Also by many
nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. His outgoing
personality
and love of people gained for him many friends wherever he went.
C.
L. was a lover of all competitive sports and took an active part in them as
long as his health permitted. He was also very interested in anything
pertaining to the betterment of
his
community. C. L. was a patient sufferer during his many illnesses and was
easily cared for by his wife, relatives and friends and will be sadly missed by
all who knew and loved
him.
Funeral
services were conducted from the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford at 2
p.m. May 21st with Pastor Perry Cozad officiating.
Music
was furnished by Pauline Wilson, soloist with Barbara Scott, organist.
Bearers
were Bill Scott, Donald Scott, Charles Haas, Paul Oxley, James Hanson and Byron
Northup.
Interment
was in Washington cemetery at Gravity.

Knox, Frank Murray -
Frank
Murray Knox, 83 of Gering, Nebr., died Monday, May 29th in a hospital there.
Mr.
Knox lived in Lenox as a child when his father owned a flour mill here. The
mill was later destroyed, around 1900. He had lived in western Nebraska for a
number of
years
and was a member of the Masonic lodge in Dalton and served as master for one
year.
Survivors
include a sister, Marie Knox of Gering.
Burial
was at Soulville cemetery at Boelus Thursday.

Lovitt, John Clyde -
John
Clyde Lovitt, former resident of Lenox, died March
21, 1972 in Centralia, Calif.
John
Clyde Lovitt, born April 13, 1879 at Lenox, Iowa, was
the son of E. P. and Elizabeth Lovitt. He was married
to Lydia Hestella Carothers on August 3, 1906, and
their early years were spent near Hiawatha, Kansas. The family moved to
Centralia in 1924.
Mr. Lovitt was a member of the United Church of Christ of
Centralia.
Mrs. Lovitt preceded him in death on April 27, 1945 and
also a son, Cecil June, died in infanoy.
Survivors
are a son, Charles of Colby, Kansas and Mrs. Jean Steckel of Centralia, four sisters, Mrs. Flo Grimm of Sharpsburg, Mrs. John Drain of
Lenox, Mrs. Hazel Neeley, Glendale, Calif., Mrs. Alta
Chamberlin of Mission Hill, Calif., one brother, Ernest Lovitt of Portland, Oregon, seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial were held
in Centralia.

Mrs.
Frank D. (Artie) Morley, 89, of Lenox, died about noon Sunday at the Lenox
Nursing Home. She had been in the rest
home for only a few days.
Artie
Bicker was born near Conway and had lived in the Lenox community all of her
life. She was married to Frank Delmar Morley, who died in 1917. Mr. and Mrs.
Morley lived
on a
farm east of Lenox all of their married life and she had continued to live on the
same farm which her son, Harley, operated after her husband's death.
She
is survived by a son, Harley Morley of Lenox, two daughters, Mrs. Esther
Christenson of Janesville, Wis., and Mrs. Ruth Dotson of Corning, seven
grandchildren and six
great
grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Fleeta Denton of
Spokane, Wash.
Funeral
services were conducted from the United Presbyterian Church Tuesday, May 23 at
2 p.m., with Rev. Wallace Nelson officiating.
Music
was furnished by Roberta Lockhart and Guy Henderson.
Bearers
were Ray Hewitt, Bert Shawler, Johnny Reed, Robert
Rhoades, Harvey Wurster and Willard Campbell.
Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Vernon Nabb, 86, of Silverton, Oregon died Tuesday morning,
according to word received here that
day.
He
was a brother of Mrs. Lloyd Wood of this city.

Northup,
Edwin -
Mr. and
Mrs. Byron Northup of rural Lenox, received word Saturday, their son, Captain
Edwin G. Northup, 25, was missing in action in Vietnam. Sunday, further word
confirmed
the
fact that Captain Northup had been killed in action in Southeast Asia
His
wife, Threse, who lives in Washington, Delaware, also
was given the news of his death while serving his country. Captain Northup was
a helicopter pilot.
He
attended the Lenox Community school, graduating from here with the class of
1965. He received an appointment to West
Point Military Academy, graduating from there in 1969.
He
was married in June of that year.
Survivors
include his wife, his parents, a brother, John, and four sisters, Louise Sandstrom of Dallas Center, Linda Pershin of Creston, Celia Curry of Mitchellville and Lisa, at
home.
Residents
of Lenox, by proclamation of the mayor and out of respect will fly flags at
half mast Friday and Saturday.
Arrangements
are pending awaiting further word from the military.

Forest
M,. Pershin, 82, died at the Methodist hospital in
Des Moines April 27, 1972.
Mr. Pershin, the son of Homer and Minnie Smith Pershin, was born July 5, 1889 at Villisca, Iowa. He was 82
years, 9 mos. and 22 days of age at the time of his death.
He
was married to Audrey Raynor on December 9, 1908, and
to this union were born four sons and one daughter, Dale and Lee of Glendora,
Cal., Lela (Mrs. Vincent Dukes) of
Ellston,
Elbert and Mack of Conway.
He
leaves to mourn his children, eighteen grandchildren, thirty five great
grandchildren, one sister, Grace Farrell of Clarinda, four daughters-in-law,
several nieces and nephews
and
a host of other relatives and friends.
He
joined the Methodist Church at High Point in Ringgold county and later
transferred to the Methodist Church in Lenox.
Funeral
services were held on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the United Methodist
Church with Rev. Floyd Newbrough officiating.
Music
was furnished by Billie Jean Darker, Helen Brokaw and Normal Paymal.
Bearers
were Dale Cooper, Larry Rogers, Carl Clinton, Robert Manroe,
Harry Freeman and Raymond Swank.
Burial was in New Market cemetery.

Friends
in Lenox have recently received word of the death of Harlan A. Pratt of
Arlington, Virginia on May 27, 1972.
Surviving
are his widow, the former Agnes Rogers of Arlington, a daughter, Eleanor Jean
Pratt, also of Arlington, a son, Dr. Allan R. Pratt of Salt Lake City, Utah and
a granddaughter, Andrea Pratt also of Salt Lake City. A brother and a sister
also survive.
A
native of Nebraska, Mr. Pratt was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and
was employed many years in Interstate Commerce Department, in Washington, D.
C., retiring in
1956.
Interment was in Battle Creek, Nebraska May 30th.

Terry,
Samuel Enos -
Samuel Enos Terry, 80, of Beaumont, California, passed away
May 13th at the Beaumont Convalescent hospital after suffering a severe heart
attack on April 20th.
Mr.
Terry was born in Missouri and at an early age moved with his parents to Iowa.
He had lived in the Lenox community until moving to California in 1933.
Survivors
include his wife, the former Marie McCahan, 3 sons,
Edwin of Beaumont, Claire of La Jolla and Samuel E. of San Diego, Calif., three
brothers, James of Corvallis, Montana,
Lloyd
of Beaumont, Calif., and Bill of Lenox, Iowa, a sister, Pearl Chandler of
Stevensville, Mont., eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were conducted at the Weaver Funeral Home in Beaumont May 16th at 10
a.m. with the Rev. G. Virgil Bonto, pastor of the
United Presbyterian Church officiating.
Burial
was in the Mountain View cemetery in Beaumont.
Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Terry went by plane to Beaumont to attend the services and spent
several days with the family.
