Fred
J. Beatty, 69, died Thursday evening at the Veterans Hospital in Des
Moines. Services were Monday at 10:00 a.
m., at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox, with the Rosary Sunday at 8:00 p.m.,
at the Bender Funeral Home. Burial was in Calvary cemetery at Creston.
Survivors
are his widow, Gertrude; a son, James of Corning; 2 daughters, Mrs Helen Dunlap, of Emmetsburg, Mrs Margaret Teply, of Des Moines and a
number
of grandchildren.

Fred
J. Beatty, son of John and Anna Keehn Beatty, was
born January 16, 1895 in Creston, Iowa, and departed this life on Sept. 10,
1964 at the veterans
Hospital
in Des Moines. His age was 69 years, 7 months, 24 days.
Fred
grew to manhood in Creston and lived most of his life there. He attended the
Franklin school. As a young man he worked for the Keehn Monument Co. before entering service in World War I.
He
was married to Frances Dooley on Oct. 7, 1920. To this union three children
were born, James, Helen, and Margaret.
He
worked for Creston schools as superintendent of buildings and grounds.
His
wife Frances passed away on January 2, 1961. On Nov. 20, 1962, he married
Gertrude Toland. They moved to Des Moines where he worked as janitor at
Y.
W. C. A. several years. They moved to Greenfield in 1958. He was janitor at the
high school there until he retired in 1960, when they came to their home in
Lenox.
He
was always willing to help those in need, a kind and loving father, husband and
grandfather.
He
is survived by his wife Gertrude, son, James of Corning, two daughters Mrs Helen Dunlap of Emmetsburg, and Mrs Margaret Teply of Des Moines; his aunt Mrs Winnie Lyon of Rogers, Ark., six grandchildren, Bob and
Ann Beatty, Greg, Lynn, Mike and Peggy Teply whom he
loved dearly.
Funeral
services were Sept. 14, 1964 at St Patricks Church,
Father Leto officiating with Military Rights. Burial
in Calvary cemetery in Creston. Pall bearers were Chas Worth, Sherm Stinsen, Byron Brown,
Raymond Dill, Wm. Quinn and Foster Hammond.

Mrs Mary Bruner, 87, of Clearfield died in the Clearview Rest Home at Clearfield Sunday. Her funeral
was at the Methodist church in Clearfield Tuesday. She

Creston, Ruth Sundell of Conway, Marietta Abarr, Alice Whitmore,

Mary Blanche Knox -
Mary
Blanche Knox Bruner, daughter of John J. and Lucy Etta Knox, was born on a farm
near Clearfield, Oct. 15, 1877, and passed away at the Clearview
home
Oct. 17, 1964 at the age of 87 years and 2 days.
On
Feb. 22, 1899, she was united in marriage to Daniel Bruner who died Mar. 14,
1958. To this union were born eight children; two sons, Fred of Conway and John
R. of North Hollywood, Calif.; Six daughters, Mrs Bernice Wiley of Creston, Mrs Marietta: Abarr and Mrs Lester Whitmore of
Clearfield, Mrs Karl Sundell of
Conway, Mrs Kenneth Mathews, and Mrs Daryl Lyddon both of Clearfield.
In addition
to the eight children, she leaves to mourn her death, John Knox and a sister,
Clara Knox of Clearfield, also two daughters-in-law, four
sons-in-laws,
twenty-six grandchildren, forty great grandchildren and other relatives and
friends.
Mrs Bruner was a faithful member of the Greenwood Methodist Church and later
transferred her membership to the Clearfield Methodist Church which she
attended as long as her health would permit. She loved her Bible and was happy
in her Christian faith. She was a good mother and a faithful companion, always
trying to
brighten
the pathway of others.
Funeral
services were at the Methodist Church in Clearfield Oct. .20. Rev. Herbert E.
Phillips officiated. Music was furnished by Mrs Marcia Bender accompanied
by Mrs Eugene Paymal. Burial was in
the Clearfield cemetery.

Services
were held Tuesday afternoon at Bender Funeral Home for Mrs LaVerne Cordell, 30, who died at the Creston hospital
Saturday. Burial was in

Lenox cemetery.
She
is survived by her husband, and three daughters, Kathy, Patty and Sharon
Eileen. Sharon is only a few days old. The family lived on a farm near here. Mrs Cordell was the former Joan Fitzgerald of Sharpsburg.

Barbara
Joan Fitzgerald Cordell, daughter of Orville E and Winnie Miller Fitzgerald,
was born October 20, 1933 near Gravity, Ia and passed
away Oct 17, 1964 at the age of 30 years, 12 months and 18 days.
She
graduated from Sharpsburg High School in 1952. On February 26, 1955, she was
united in marriage to Henry Laverne Cordell; and to this union
four
children were born.
She
was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Duane, who was still born, September
11, 1962.
Left
to mourn her passing are her husband; three daughters, Kathleen Marie, Patricia
Ann, and Sharon Eileen; her parents; a brother, Richard of Conway, a niece,
Kristy; a nephew, Ronnie; one grandmother, Mrs Ethel
Fitzgerald of Beaconsfield, Mo.; and a host of relatives and friends.
She
was a kind and loving wife and mother, and a good and pleasant friend of all
who knew her.
The
funeral was Oct. 20 at the Bender Funeral Home with interment in the Lenox cemetery.

Mrs Marjorie Henderson, 74, of Indianola died Sunday in a Des Moines hospital. She
formerly lived in the Clearfield area. Her husband, Floyd,

deceased. She leaves a daughter, Elizabeth. She was a sister-in-law of Hester
Henderson.
The
funeral and burial were at Indianola Oct. 14.

Huxtable, Morris -
Morris Huxtable passed away at his home here Monday
evening. He would have been 99 years old
on Oct 20 and had been active until the past few weeks.
Funeral
services will be Thursday at 2, p. m., at the Bender Funeral home, the Rev Chas Colyn officiating. Burial will be at Benson, Ill.
Mr Huxtable was born in Benson, Ill., had lived for a
time near Harrisonville, Mo. He came to Lenox in 1944.
Surviving
are his daughter, Mrs Warren Eckels who had made a home for him in his later years, his son-in-law, Warren Eckels, 4 grandchildren,

great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. His wife and two daughters
preceded him in death.
Mr Huxtable was remarkable for his zest for life and the
energy which kept him traveling and in communication with a large circle of
relatives and
friends
at an age far past the average alloted time. He
regularly sent some 300 holiday greeting cards and enjoyed hearing from as many
individuals and families, scattered through several states.
Up
until this year he attend the annual True Vow Keepers club meeting in Kansas
City and often sang on the program. Nieces and nephews by the score entertained him in their homes in
Missouri and Illinois. He spent several
winters in St Petersburg, Fla enjoying recreation
with retired people and churches which he regularly attended.
He
was this community's oldest citizen.

Huxtable,
Morris -
Morris Huxtable passed away at his home in Lenox, la., Sept.
21, 1964 having attained the age of 98 years, 11 months and 1 day.
Morris Huxtable was born in Woodford County, Ill., Oct 20,
1865, the son of James and Frances Huxtable.
Mar
1, 1887 he was united in marriage with Flora Younger of Benson, Ill. They began farming on the Huxtable homestead immediately. To this union were born 3
daughters,
Eleanor Osla, Lenora and Maria Helen. Only one of the
daughters is still living, Mrs Warren Eckels, Lenora passed away in 1940 while Maria died
in
1905 at the age of 5.
Mr and Mrs Huxtable moved to
Lee's Summit, Mo. in 1907. A year later they moved to Kansas City and lived
there until 1913 when they purchased a farm near Raymore, Mo., and made this
their home until March, 1944 at which time Mrs Huxtable's health failed. They moved to Lenox, la. in 1944
to be with their daughter, Mrs Warren Eckels. Mrs Huxtable died March 11, 1946.
He
leaves to mourn his death, one daughter, Mrs Warren Eckels of Lenox; 4 grandchildren, Lew Eckels of Lenox, Mrs Angelo Saccaro of Chillicothe, Mo., Mrs Clarence Allen of Oklahoma
City, Okla., and Charles Campbell of La Monte, Mo.; 13 great grandchildren and
one great great grandchild. One grandson, Don D Eckels was
killed
in action in France June 6, 1944, He was a paratrooper.
Mr Huxtable was the last surviving member of a family of
10 children of which he was the next to the youngest. There were 54 in the
families of his nieces and nephews, 11 of whom survive.
Mr Huxtable retained an active mind, an interest in life
and a sense of humor to the end of his long life. He could recall the
"singing family" of his boyhood days when his father would take a
buggy load of children to town and they would sing all the way in and all the
way back to the delight of the farm folk along the way.
He
could recall the horse and buggy courtship and early trials of life without
electricity and running water. But alert to changing time he "flew"
to Florida for thirteen years to winter at St Petersburg. Only threatening
illness kept him in Lenox this last winter.
Although
his principal occupation was farming, he had many other interests. He was
president of the Raymore bank for 20 years, a Justice of the Peace, a County
Supervisor and interested in the Farm Bureau.
In
1928 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention when Hoover was nominated
and recalled carrying Hoover's banner to the platform,
Mr Huxtable had a special gift of singing and had been a
member of male quartets for 50 years. He still used his gift generously
whenever asked and had sung for patients of the Lenox Nursing Home and Adams
County Home as late as last April and May. His delight was in the old time revival songs. He became a Christian
in
early manhood and took an active part in church activities and maintained a
regular attendance. He was a Sunday School superintendent for many years at the
Raymore Presbyterian Church. His many friends will honor the deep sincerity of
his Christian life.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p. m. Thursday Sept. 24 at the Bender Funeral Home at
Lenox. Rev. Chas. A. Colyn officiated.
A male
duet consisting of Guy Henderson and Erskine Blair accompanied by Marcia Bender
sang 'In the Garden" and "That Beautiful Land."
His
body was taken to Benson, Ill., for burial beside his wife and daughters where
grave side services were held.

from a distance were Mr and Mrs Angelo Saccaro, Mr and Mrs Ray Scott, of Omaha, Mr and Mrs John Litle from
Harrisonville, Mo., and Albert
Lee
from Garden City, Mo.
Relatives

Mrs Roy Kemery passed away at her home here early
Saturday morning. Services were held at the Bender Funeral Home Monday, Sept 28
with interment
in
Fairview cemetery.
Katherine
Dorothea Hillers, daughter of Karl arid Anna Hillers, was born Sept 18, 1906 at Blockton, la., where she spent her youth. As a young
girl she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Oklahoma.
On
May 16, 1925 she was united in marriage to Roy Kemery at Grant City, Mo. To this union were born five children: Norma James of Lenox,
Shirley Dodson of Kansas City, Mo., Connie Mains of Sharpsburg, Daniel Kemery of the U S Army and Rosemary Kemery of Kansas City.
The
first 17 years of their married life they made their Home at Athelstan, moving
to Lenox in 1942.
After
two month illness she passed away at the age of 58 years, 8 days. She was
preceded in death by her parents, one brother Christie Hillers, two
grandchildren,
Clara Katherine and Keith Raymond James.
Survivors
are Roy Kemery, Keith and Norma James of Lenox,
Shirley and Homer Dodson, Mary K., John and Margaret Ann of Kansas City, Mo.,
Gene and Connie Mains and Scotty of Sharpsburg, Daniel Kemery of the U S Army, Rosemary Kemery of Kansas City, Mo.,
one brother George Hillers of Blockton, one sister,
Mary
Jennings
of West Branch, Iowa, a host of other relatives and friends.
She
was a loving and very wonderful mother who will be greatly missed by her family
and many friends.

and Paul Chitty.

Mrs Mable Long, T9, formerly of Lenox, died at Seattle, Wash., at the home of her
daughter on Sept. 7, after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services

burial were at Pittsburg, Calif. Thursday of last week.
She
leaves a son, Roy Welch, of Lenox, and the daughter Mrs Mary Winslow of Seattle.
Mr and Mrs Roy Welch left here Tuesday to attend the
funeral. They returned home Tuesday of this week.

Lewis
W. McFee,, 74, died at his home here Aug. 12. The
funeral was Friday, Aug. 14, at the United Presbyterian Church, the Rev. James

Mr McFee had lived in this vicinity all of his life. His

and Kenneth of Lenox and one daughter, Bonita Isabelle Mohler

Des Moines.
He
lived in the Lenox vicinity all his life. He moved to his present home in Lenox
in 1941.
He leaves

Mrs Charles Noble of, Kansas City, Mo., died Sunday, Sept 27. Her funeral was Sept
30 at McPherson, Kan., with burial there.
Mrs Noble grew up in McPherson and was the former Maybelle Hughes.
Surviving
is her husband, Charles Noble, who formerly lived in Lenox and graduated from
school here. They had lived in Kansas City 46 years. Mrs
Sevy Noble of Jasper, Mo. a sister-in-law of the deceased lady wrote of the death to Metta Porter, whose family had been friends of the
Noble family in the past years.

la., for Forrest Ray, who died Saturday morning in the University

attended the Lenox high school and farmed in this vicinity for several years
then moved to Corning and engaged in the restaurant business. He later lived in Creston, Storm Lake,
Hawarden and Albert City, retiring, Jan 1,, 1963.
Ray
was united in marriage to Mrs Yarda Adams on Dec 5, 1948.
He is survived by his wife, 5 step children, Gail Nichols of Rapid City, S. D.;
Roland Adams of Coralville; Lois Adams of Sellersville, Pa.; James Adams of
Storm Lake and Mrs James Scott of Loomis, Calif.; 2

is survived by three daughters, Mrs Vera Taylor of

Minn.; 21 grandchildren and great grandchildren, 3 sisters and 1 brother, a number

Jennette Isabelle Turner, daughter
of Daniel and Mary McKain Murchy,
was born December 24, 1883 near Lenox, Iowa and died July 20, 1964 at the home
of her niece, Mrs Charles Jolley at Woodrow, Colo. She was united in marriage with Oliver Turner on October 12,
1911 at Lenox. Mr Turner died September 12, 1958
at
their home at Corning. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her
sister, Mrs John Gait.
Mrs Turner was a graduate of Tarkio College and taught in the Lenox schools before
her marriage. She was a life long member of the
United Presbyterian
Church
and served many years as a Sunday school teacher and officer in the women's
association in both the Lenox and Corning Churches.
She
is survived by her foster daughter Mrs Leona Hall of
Denver, Colo., and Mrs Hall's sons John and Anthony
Nelson.
Other
survivors include her brother John Murchy of Colorado
Springs, Colo., and three nieces, Mrs Charles Jolley of Woodrow, Colo., Mrs Andrew
Tinn of Wheatridge, Colo., and Mrs R. L. Burkett of Anchorage, Alaska.
Funeral
services for Mrs Turner were held Friday, July 24, at
1:30 p. m. at the Presbyterian Church in Corning with the Rev W. H. Sinning
officiating.
Mrs Dick Cook was organist.
Pall
bearers were Marlon Brown, Paul Flowers, Frank Davis, Bob Badgett,
Don Hill, and Fred Turner. Burial was in
the Lenox cemetery.

Ola Keith Abbitt -
Mrs Donald W. Wagner was suddenly stricken and passed away at her home in Moorhead,
Minn., Oct. 10, 1964. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 12 at the First
Congregational Church in Moorhead, the Rev. Harry A. Campbell officiating.
Burial was at Corning the following day with grave side services there.
Ola
Keith, only daughter of John and Emma Keith, was born Oct. 27, 1900 in
Deepwater, Mo, moving to Lenox when she was 12 years old. .
She
graduated with honors from Lenox High School with the class of 1920 and in 1921
was married to Ray Abbitt. They moved to California
where two sons were born, John Harlan and Raymond.
Her
husband passed away in 1925 when John was 21 months old and 6 days before
Raymond was born, and Ola returned to Lenox. She taught school many
years
in this area and in southern Minnesota, earning, a degree in Education at
Northwest Missouri State College in 1937.
June
9, 1943, she was married to Donald W. Wagner, living in Minneapolis, moving to
Moorhead in 1954, where they have since lived.
Besides
her husband, she leaves the two sons, John Abbitt,
Palmdale, Calif., Raymond Abbitt, Hancock, la.; 5
grandchildren; 3 brothers, Albert Keith of San Francisco, Calif., Frank Keith
of Red Oak, and Lee Keith of Burlington.
Her
mother died in 1959 and her father in 1961.
Ola
was a former member of the Lenox Christian church, a past matron and grand
marshal of the Minnesota Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and
a member
of Royal Neighbors of America.
Hers was a life well lived.

She
was united in marriage on April 1, 1916 to Joel Cecil Warren Winslow. They
lived on a farm near Sharpsburg all their married life. She was preceded
in
death by her husband, her father and mother, a sister, Martha, a brother Otto
and 3 sisters who died in infancy. She moved to Lenox in 1959.
She
was a member of the St John's United Church of Christ in Creston since
childhood. ,
She
is survived by a half sister, Mrs Edward Pierce
(Marie) of North Kansas City, Mo., Otto Pries, foster son, of Kirkman, la., many nieces, nephews and
friends.
Funeral
services were held at the Bender Funeral Home in Lenox on Aug 8, 1964 at 2 p.
m. with the Rev A J Clements officiating.
Interment was in the Lenox cemetery.

Mrs Mary Wray, 85, died at Rosary Hospital at Corning Monday. Funeral services are
being held Wednesday, Sept 23 at the Salem Church of the Brethren and burial

Her
husband, Charles, died in 1962. They lived on a farm in the Prescott vicinity.
Surviving
are a son, Leo Wray, a daughter, Mrs Velda Licare of Redwood City,
Calif., 4 grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren.
Mrs Wray was an active worker in the Salem church, having served in various ways,
including as Sunday school superintendent.
She
was a former Time Table correspondent and was interested in all phases of life
about her: the church, the weather, politics, weddings, progress of
road
work in the vicinity, all of which she commented on in her weekly notes sent
for publication.

Mary Leanna Anderson Wray, daughter of Robert and Margaret

united in marriage to Charles Joseph Wray on March 1, 1899. She became a member
of the Church of the Brethren Nov 2, 1907, and has held most

the offices of the church and had served the church as clerk for many, many
years.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, 1 granddaughter and a
sister, Mrs A A Walter.
She

City; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The
funeral was held at the Salem Church of the Brethren Sept 23, with Rev John
Wagner officiating. Burial was in the Salem cemetery. The music was
by Mrs Ruth Hettinger, accompanying Rolland Buxton who sang
Rock of Ages and Ivory Palaces. Pall bearers were her nephews, Lowell Hamilton,
Wray, Dale, Homer, Lonzo and Glenndon Walter.
