Archibald, Ralph -

Ralph Archibald, 62, of Algona, died suddenly Sunday morning.  Services are being held at the Bender Funeral Home Wednesday at 2 p m with burial in the Lenox cemetery, the Rev David Shaeffer officiating.

Survivors are his mother, Mrs Edna Archibald, a brother, Roy of Knoxville, and a sister Mrs Orville Plants.

Archibald, Ralph -

Ralph Archibald was born November 25th, 1903, on a farm in Taylor County, Iowa. He grew to manhood in the Lenox vicinity. When a young man he united with the Christian Church in Lenox.

In 1934 he moved to Algona, Iowa, where he was employed by the Loyal Young family. He departed this life March 29th at the Young home. Ralph was a kind and gentle person, a good neighbor and friend whom children loved dearly.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his mother, Mrs. Edna Archibald; his sister, Mrs. Orval Plants, and husband of Lenox; his brother, Roy Archibald and his wife of Knoxvflle, Iowa, his Aunt, Miss Ruth Lown, of Des Moines; two neices, Mrs. Joe O'Connel, of Denver, Colo., and Annette Dickson, of Knoxville; one nephew, Dean Plants, of Lenox; six great nieces; 2 great nephews and the Loyal Young family.

Services were held at Bender's on Wed., March 31, 2:00 p.m. Rev. David Shaeffer of the Christian Church officiating. Roland Buxton was soloist; Ruth Boltinghouse was at the piano. Interment was at Lenox.

Bubb, Leonard C -

Leonard C Bubb, 54, of Creston died suddenly in the hospital there Thursday after suffering a heart attack. Services were Monday at Creston, the Rev

Glenn A Cadwell of the Christian Church officiating, with burial in Graceland cemetery.

The son of Alonzo and Elsie Einfeldt Bubb, Leonard was born Oct. 30, 1910, on a farm about four miles north of Lenox. He lived in this community until 1940. On Oct. 5, 1942 he was married at Maryville, Mo, to Virginia Oshel. He had lived in Creston since 1942, and was employed by the Hawkeye Lumber company there for the past two years.

He leaves his widow Virginia, six children Richard Bubb of Punxsutawney, Pa.; Mrs Gerald (Sharon) Franklin of Creston; Paul of Long Beach, Cal; Jerry, Danny and Linea at home; also his mother Elsie of West Liberty, five sisters, Mrs Lester (Esther) Hines and Dorothy Bubb, West Liberty; Mrs Paul (Irma) Bramen, Cedar Rapids;

Mrs Ed (Clara), McKinny, St. Louis, Mrs Lola Marble in California; two, brothers, Donald (Doc) Bubb, Lenox and Harland Bubb in California.

Henderson, Ida Maria Wernstrom -

Mrs Ida Henderson, 81, died at the Lenox Nursing Home Sunday, April 11. Services were Tuesday at the Bender Funeral Home, the Rev. Clements officiating,

with burial in the Lenox cemetery. She had been in failing health for a few months, but before that had been steadily employed.

Ida Maria Henderson, daughter of Johan August and Emma Augusta Wernstrom, was born May 3, 1883 in Sweden and passed away at Lenox, Iowa, on

April 11, 1965 at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 8 days.

She was united in marriage to Jesse F. Henderson on December 25, 1902. Born to this union were four sons, Myrle and Glen of Lenox, Raymond of

Chino, Calif., and Caroll of Kansas City, Mo., also one daughter, Irene Gillespie of Kansas City.

She joined the Methodist Church in Sharpsburg in 1916 and transferred her membership to the Lenox Methodist Church in 1947.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving besides her children are three daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, six grandchildren: Lorraine Kolbe of Calif., Joyce Walton of Kansas City, Kan., Judy Neff of Kansas City, Mo: Eva Hingeley of Jefferson, John Henderson and Jerry Henderson of Lenox, nine great grandchildren, one sister, Augusta Larson of Homestead, Fla.

one brother, Knute Wernstrom of Minneapolis, Minn., and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her father and mother and brother and sisters in Sweden.

Kinser, Emery J -

Emery J. Kinser of Rock Island, Ill., died Monday afternoon. His family formerly lived east of Lenox on a farm. He leaves his widow, Margaret; 2 sons, Wm. W. and Lonnie of Rock Island; a daughter, Mrs. Louella Parks of Des Moines and stepson, Richard Graham of Moline, Ill., also two sisters, Mrs. F W Livingston of Creston and Mrs Myrtle Agnew of California.

The body will be at Bender's but the funeral may be delayed due to interruption of train schedules by the floods on the Mississippi.

Leighton, Merrill Vernon -

Merrill Leighton died Saturday night at the Veteran's Hospital in Omaha after a long illness. Services were held at the Bender Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon with burial in the Lenox cemetery.

Mr. Vernon Leighton, the son of A. J. and Stella Osborn Leighton, was born in Page County, Iowa on August 30, 1903 and passed away April 24, 1965, after

a lingering illness, at the age of 61 years, 7 months and 25 days.  His family moved to a farm north west of Gravity in 1908, and most of his life was spent

in that vicinity. He graduated from the Gravity High School in 1923.  He farmed until he was called to the service of his country during World War Two and

after that he returned to farming, continuing as long as his health permitted.

He was united in marriage with Edna Warner at Lenox on April 2, 1944.

He is survived by his widow and three step children, Donnella Kelley of Denver, Colo., Doris Johnston of Council Bluffs, and Dale of Lenox, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, also one brother, Lowell of Cook, Washington, four sisters, Grace, Mrs. Marion West of Corning, Ruth, Mrs. Paul McMahon, Velma, Mrs. Russell Hames of Kansas. City, and Vera, Mrs. Glenn Harrison of Creston.

In his youth he joined the Methodist Church at Gravity and later transferred his membership to the Christian Church of Lenox, maintaining an active interest until the time of his death.  Merrill Leighton was of a kindly sincere disposition and will be missed by all who knew him.

Memorial services were held at the Lenox Christian Church on Tuesday April 27, 1965 with the Rev. David A Schaeffer officiating.  Soloist was Mrs Nadine Bechener and organist was Mrs Ruth Boltinghouse.

Martin, Vera Hazel Taylor -

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Greenfield for Mrs. George Martin, 58, the former Vera Taylor. The family moved here from Bedford when she was a child. She graduated from high school here and later worked in Tyler Pharmacy.

Vera Hazel Taylor Martin, daughter of Albert C. and Effie Thompson Taylor, was born November 21, 1906 near Bedford, and passed away in the Adair County Hospital in Greenfield, on April 7, 1965 at the age of 58 years, 4 months and 17 days.

On March 3, 1942 she was united in marriage to George Martin at Maryville, Mo. To this union two children were born, both of whom survive to mourn her loss. They are William, a student at Iowa State University in Ames, and Karen at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Also surviving are her husband, George Martin, three sisters: Mrs. Susie Brown of Lenox, Mrs. Ruby Speelman, Creston, and Mrs. Helen Hamblin, Lenox; one brother, Clark Taylor of Lenox, three brothers-in-law: Guy Brown, Adley Speelman, Lloyd Hamblin; two nephews: Gary Hamblin of Oakland, and Richard Hamblin in California.

She professed her faith in Christ as a young girl, and was active in the organization of the Webster Methodist Church.

She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

McClintock, Helen Eve Round -

Mrs Homer (Helen) McClintock, 49, of Clearfield, died at the Creston hospital early Saturday morning. Services were held Tuesday at the Methodist Church in Clearfield with burial there .

Survivors include her husband, also two daughters, Mrs. Robert Lockhart and Mrs. Tom Fitzgerald of Clearfield, a son Bob, a student at Creston Jr. college; her parents, Mr and Mrs Ralph Round of Clearfield.

Mrs McClintock was county president of the Federation of Women's clubs and president of the Clearfield unit of the Legion Auxiliary.

McClintock, Helen Eve Round -

Helen Eve Round McClintock, daughter of Ralph H. and Eva Winemiller Round, was born June 4, 1916, in Worth County, Mo., and passed away April 3, 1965, at Greater community Hospital in Creston, at the age of 48 years, 9 months and 30 days. When a child, she moved with her parents to the Clearfield area and graduated from

that high school.

On April 26, 1936, she was united in marriage to Homer W. McClintock. To this union were born four children: Sharon, Roberta, Marjebell and Robert.

With her husband and two older daughters, she became a member of the Clearfield United Presbyterian Church. When that Church was discontinued, her

membership was transferred to the Methodist Church.

She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Modern Literary Club and maintained an active interest in these and other community

organizations as long as her health permitted.

Those surviving include her husband, Homer; their children: Sharon, Mrs. Tom Fitzgerald of Clearfield; Roberta, Mrs Robert Lockhart of Lenox; Robert

and Marjebell at home, and five grandchildren; also her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Round and a brother Donald all of Clearfield; a sister Jeanne, Mrs.

Dwight England of Corning; her two sons-in-law, other relatives and many friends.

Casketbearers were: Paul Whitmore, Arlo Beggs, Dr. V. U. Thomson, Don Beggs, Leroy Beggs, and J. B. Routh. Services were April 6 at the Methodist Church in Clearfield, the Rev. Herbert Phillips and Rev. Harvey Ruegsegger officiating. Burial was in Clearfield cemetery. The music was by Mrs. Norma Paymal, organist,

and Roland Buxton, soloist.

McKinney, Ed -

Ed McKinney, of St. Louis died there last Tuesday. He was a son-in-law of Mrs Elsie Bubb, of West Liberty, and a brother-in-law of Donald Bubb of Lenox.

The funeral was Friday morning. His widow, Clara, survives, also a daughter, Sue, 15.

"Doc" and Bessie went Thursday afternoon in their plane to be there for the services Friday, it was a two hour flight.

Others of the family that were present were Irma Brayman of Cedar Rapids and Esther Hines of West Liberty.

Noble, Sevy -

Sevy Noble, 71, of Jasper, Mo., died March 6. The funeral was March 9 with burial at Purcell, Mo. Mr Noble died suddenly. He leaves his widow Beulah, a

brother Charles of Kansas City; and a sister, Myrtle Paymal of Omaha.

He formerly lived here and worked for O P Arnold. The family lived on a farm east of Lenox at one time.

Peterson, Carl -

Ernest Peterson received a telegram Thursday telling of the death of his brother, Carl Peterson, 83, in Billings, Mont. Carl had died Wednesday night.

The funeral was there Saturday.

Mr. Peterson leaves ten children, also three sisters and two brothers. He grew up at Elgin, Nebr. Ernest is the only close relatives in this vicinity.

Ross, Clara May Olson -

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church for Clara Ross, who died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs Harold Clark at Stringtown. Burial was at Nevinville. Rev David  Shaeffer and Rev Clements officiated at the service.

Clara May Olson was born Jan 3, 1888 at Creston, Iowa, one of a pair of twins born to Lars L. and Sarah Ann Coons Olson. She passed away March 3, 1965 at the home of her daughter Mrs Nellie Clark at Stringtown at the age of 80 years and 2 months.

At the age of three years she moved with her parents to a farm west of Nevinville, Iowa in Adams County where she grew to womanhood. She was united

in marriage to Mack Ross of Nevinville, on Dec. 20,1903, who preceded her in death Feb. 5, 1931.

To this union were born ten children, Cecil of Sheridan, Wyo., Mrs Velma Dunn of Creston, Luellen of Des Moines, Mrs Mildred Goddard of Payette, Ida., Cleo and Raymond who passed away in infancy, Mrs Irene Rusco of Nyssa, Ore., Floyd of St Joe, Mo., Mrs Nellie Clark of Stringtown and Mrs Gertrude Nelson of Conway.

At the age of 12 years she was. converted and united with the Methodist Church at Nevinville. Later on when moving to Lenox she changed her membership

to the Lenox Methodist Church and has kept that faith ever since. She has lived in Union, Adams and Taylor Counties all her life, except three years spent near Woodstock Minn.

Other survivors are her twin brother Clarence Clay Olson, of Torrence, Calif and Fred Olson of Corning. Also three grandchildren whom she cared for nine years after the death of their mother when they were small; Paul Ross of Sheridan, Wyo., Mrs Donna Chadwick of Pueblo, Colo and Ralph Ross of Renton, Wash.  There are fifteen other grandchildren and sixteen great great grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Carl and Lloyd Olson, her sister Mrs Annan Madison and three grandchildren.

Ryan, Lawrence -

Lawrence Ryan, 53, son of the late Mr and Mrs Dan J. Ryan, died Sunday Feb. 28 at the Glenwood Hospital in Glenwood, la. He, was a former resident of

Taylor County.

His father, mother and three brothers preceded him in death.  Surviving are two brothers, Gene Ryan of Raton, N Mex.; Leo Ryan of Omaha, Nebr.; one sister, Mrs. Lela Sharp, of Bedford.

Graveside services were at the St Patrick cemetery in Lenox Mar 3.

Stroud, Minta Beatrice Fenner Benson -

Mrs E R Stroud was born Minta Beatrice Fenner, daughter of James A and Sarah Fenner, in Highland County, Ohio, some 8 miles south of Hillsboro, June 7,

1879. She passed away March 16, 1965, age 85 years, 9 months and 10 days. She was one of ten children all of whom were girls.

Her early life was spent at their farm in Concord township, attending grade school at Miller's Chapel. At a comparatively early age she went to work at

the home of a neighboring family. It was in the year 1909 that she accompanied her sister and brother-in-law on a trip from Ohio to Lenox. Here in the

course of employment, she met and married Alfred Purl Benson.

To them two children were born, a son and daughter. Her husband died in 1917, leaving her with the responsibility of rearing the family. She is remembered

by many in the Lenox area from her connection with the telephone company where she worked for 16 years as a switchboard operator.

In 1938 she married Rev Evan R Stroud who was pastor at the time at the Methodist church in Bedford.

The next ministry was at Malvern, la. Then in years they were in the service of the E U B Church at Garvin, Moravia and Afton. From there they moved to Lenox to retire in 1959. It was here Rev Stroud passed away Feb. 20, 1981.

Mrs Stroud was a member of Mrs Beck's Sunday school class of the Methodist church and active in the Harmony Reading Circle. She leaves in passing, a

son, Daryl Benson of Albuquerque, New Mex., a daughter, Darleen Lininger, Diagonal, a step-son, Ronald Benson of Long Beach, Calif, a nephew, Charles Igo

Hillsboro, Ohio, 2 step daughters Virginia Chandler, Des Moines, and Lauretta Spicer, Lenox; 2 step sons, Charles Stroud and Robert Stroud, Des Moines, a

grandson, Linn Benson, Albuquerque. N. Mi, also a number of step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her funeral was Mar. 19, the Rev A J Clements officiating, with burial in Lenox cemetery.

Symonds, Doris -

Mrs Harold (Doris) Symonds of rural Creston, died in a hospital at Rochester, Minn. Saturday morning after a long illness.  Her husband is the only close relative.  She was a sister-in-law of Mrs Allie Hegwood. The funeral was Tuesday at Creston.

Trost, Harry H -

Harry H. Trost, son of George and Margretta Trost, was born July 13, 1908, near Lenox, and passed away at the Veteran's Hospital in Omaha, Nebr., on

March 15, at the age of 96 years, 8 months, and 2 days.  While a young man, he attended business college at Quincy, Ill., and spent most of his life in sales work. On Jan. 1,, 1935 he was united in marriage to Lucille Dalby.

Harry served his country during World War II as a member of the U. S. Navy, being honorably discharged at the close of the war.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Those surviving are his two brothers, Joe of Lenox and George of Sharpsburg; five sisters, Mary Cook and Frieda Boltinghouse of Lenox, Pauline Morgan and Emma Woods of West Salem, Wisc., and Rose Noerrlinger of Sheldon, Wisc.; eighteen nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law, and a host of friends.

Services were held at the Bender Funeral Home March 18, at 2 pm.  Interment was at Lenox.

Wilson, Edward Everitt -

Edward Everitt Wilson, son of John B and Ellen Wilson, was born March 25, l875 near Crawfordsville, Iowa in Washington County and departed this life on

March 13, 1965 at his home near Lenox at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 18 days.

At the age of 5 years he moved with his parents to the homestead where he spent the rest of his life. He attended public school at Platte No. 9. He

united with the Clearfield United Presbyterian Church when a young man and in 1964 he transferred his membership to the United Presbyterian Church

in Lenox. He was faithful in church attendance as long as his health permitted.

He and his brother Harve, bought the parental farm home and continued its operation under the name of Wilson Bros.

He was a great lover of horses, the buying and selling of which brought him much satisfaction and enjoyment.

With the exception of about two years he worked as a carpenter's helper in Colorado, he made his home with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs

Harve Wilson and family.

He served his community as a member of the Board of Trustee for thirty years.  He was a kind and loving brother and will be sincerely missed by all with whom he was

acquainted.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mrs Lizzie McClintock; and four brothers, David D., James G., Samuel Thomas, and Robert.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Mrs Sarah Wilcox, of the Clearview Home in Clearfield; his brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs Harve

Wilson; two nephews of the home he shared, Randall Wilson of Lenox, Wendell Wilson of Arvada, Colo.; and a niece, Mrs Berneeta Pederson of Mount

Ayr; and many more nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

The funeral was Mar. 15 with burial in the Lenox Cemetery.
