Andrews, Wilfred John -
Wilfred
John Andrews, the only son of Hugh and Stella Andrews of Lenox, died of a heart
attack on March 9th after being taken to a hospital
near
his home in Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois.
Wilfred
is survived by his wife, Norene, four daughters,
Patricia (Mullins), Debbie, Christine and Loretta and one son, Billy, all
residing in Chicago
and
his mother and father of Lenox.
He
was born on the Andrews farm in Ringgold County, Iowa, about ten miles east of
Lenox and attended school for about nine years at Lenox before moving
to
Clarion and Eagle Grove, Iowa, with his parents.
Five
years of his life were spent hi the army during World War II. He was a meat
salesman for Wilson-Sinclair Company of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for
the
past twenty two years but he was connected with their Chicago office.
Funeral
services were held on Friday, March 12th at the funeral home in Oak Park with
burial at the nearby cemetery.

Brammer, Henry Leroy (Sonny) -
Henry
Leroy (Sonny) Spammer, 37, of rural Lenox, was killed early Thursday morning in
a one-car accident on highway 34. The accident occurred about 2:10 a.m., about 1½ miles east of Corning. Mr. Brammer was returning to his home on a farm northwest of
Lenox when he lost control of the car. The car flipped end over end
at
least twice, according to the sheriff's report, and landed on its top off the
highway. The victim was pinned between the back of the front seat and the top
of the
car.
He died at the scene of the accident a short time later.
Mr. Brammer had lived in the Lenox and Kent communities all of
his life. At the time of his death he was employed on a farm southeast of
Corning by Dean Goldsmith.
Survivors
include his wife, the former Patty Mickey of Kent, two children, Peggy Sue, 10
and Mickey, 8, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rolla Brammer of Kent, two brothers, Joe Brammer of Sharpsburg and
Dick of Lenox, two sisters, Mrs. Rexine McFee of Lenox and Mrs. Raymond Rink of Winterset. Four
children by a former marriage also survive: Joe Bammer,
17, Dick Brammer 16, Becky Brammer 15, and Curtis Brammer, 12, all of Corning.
Funeral
services were conducted Saturday afternoon, April 3, at 2 p.m., from the Bender
Funeral Home in Lenox, with Rev. Edward Tschetter,
pastor of Clearfield, officiating.
Music
was furnished by Billie Jean Barker, Marilyn Beck and Marcia Bender.
Bearers
were Don Willett, Gerald Emig, Gene Marshall, Lonnie
Barker, Kevin Callahan and Francis Goldsmith.
Burial was in the Fairview cemetery at
Lenox.

Cashman, Ruth Pauline Kenworthy -
Mrs. Everette E. (Ruth Pauline) Cashman,
72, former Lenox resident, died at the Cochran nursing home in Creston Mar.
25th after a long illness.
Ruth
Pauline Kenworthy was born in Creston Dec. 30, 1898,
the daughter of Thomas M. and Nettie Holiday Kenworthy.
She was graduated from Creston
high
school in 1917. She married Everette E. Cashman at the home of her parents in Council Bluffs on
Feb. 28, 1920.
Mrs. Cashman is survived by her husband, a son, Everette of Denver, Colo., three grandchildren and five
great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister,
Mrs.
Orin White of Fort Dodge and a brother, Maurice Kenworthy of Aurora, Ill.
The Cashmans, while residents of Lenox operated a cafe for 20
years. They were located in the Roy Bennett building on East Temple, where
Rogers TV
is
now located where the 4-U Trading Post is now located and also in the rooms
housing the Bob Reynolds Agency. After giving up the restaurant business,
they
purchased the bakery and opened a sweet shop in the rooms now used by Dr.
Rowland. Mr Cashman later
operated the service station where Lowell
Wilson
is now located for a two year period.
Funeral
services were held Saturday afternoon at the Keating McKasson funeral home in Creston with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Ruth Bernice Kellogg -
Bernice
Childs, 89, of Omaha, Nebraska, and a former resident of Lenox, died Saturday
in that city.
Ruth
Bernice Childs, daughter of Wesley J. and Ida Bushnell Kellogg, was born at
Corning, Iowa, November 5, 1881, and passed away at Omaha, Nebraska,
April
3, 1971.
She
grew up at Corning and was united in marriage to Fred A. Childs April 17, 1905.
One son, Hal F. Childs, was born to this union. Mr. and Mrs. Childs moved
soon
after their marriage to Lenox where they lived many years, becoming a very real
part of the community. Mrs. Childs was a member of the Lenox Methodist Church
and was a 50 year member of the Salome Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and
was a past matron of the chapter.
She
was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Burdette, Milo and Earl
who died in infancy.
She
is survived by her son and his wife, Jeanne of Omaha, two nieces and their
husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Karl McCulloch of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mr. and
Mrs.
J. Paul Kizer of Green Valley, Arizona, other
relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were held in Lenox, Iowa, Monday afternoon from the Bender Funeral
Home with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor of the United
Methodist
Church
officiating. Music was furnished by Marilyn Beck, Helen Brokaw and Marcia
Bender. Bearers were Gene Holben, Ralph Zabel, Orval Walter, Roland
Walter,
Herman Haering, and Glen Leckliter.
Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Crouch,
Glen -
Word
was received the first of the week by Mr. and Mrs. Wes Crouch of the death of their
nephew, Glen Crouch, 43, of Great Falls, Montana. He had been suffering from a
kidney ailment and was forced to use the kidney machine in recent weeks. He
died Monday.
Survivors
include his wife and four children.
Mr.
Crouch had been a resident of Lenox in his youth, attending school in the Lenox
system, while making his home with Mr. and Mrs Crouch.
Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Crouch of Creston left the first of the week to attend services,
which were scheduled for today. Mr. and Mrs. Wes Crouch could not
attend the funeral due to illness.

DeGooyer, Pauline Shepherd -
Word
from Rev. and Mrs. Floyd L. Shepherd, former residents of Lenox when he served
as pastor of the Methodist Church, is to the fact their daughter, Mrs. Marvin
de Gooyer had died of cancer at her home in
Sacramento, Calif., on February 2nd.
Mrs.
de Gooyer was a graduate of the Lenox High school
with the class of 1935. She was editor of the school notes at the time and
filed the school news
each
week with Verlin Sweeley,
who was then editor of the Time Table.
After
graduating from Simpson college she taught at Dallas Center and Corning and
later was secretary to the manager of both the Roosevelt Hotel in Cedar Rapids
and the Ft. Des Moines Hotel in Des Moines.
She
was married to a college classmate, Marvin de Gooyer and they lived in Houston, Tex., and in Sacramento, Calif., where she taught
for the last eleven
years
until an inoperable cancer caused her to resign last March.
She
passed away at her home there on Feb. 2, 1971 and a Memorial service which she
herself had written was held at St. Parks Methodist Church on February 4th.
Survivors
include her husband, four children, three boys and one girl, and her parents.
The
daughter and one son are married and the other boys are in college in
California. Two grandchildren also survive.
Rev.
Shepherd was pastor of the local Methodist Church from 1930 to 1936. He and
Mrs. Shepherd, live at 3419 Adams Ave., Des Moines, Iowa.

Inez
Gertrude Gray, 84, of Westboro, Missouri, died
Monday, March 15th at Fairfax hospital after an illness of eleven days.
The
daughter of George and Sara Van Kirk Brelsford, she
was born Dec. 22, 1886 in Missouri. She had resided in the Westboro community for 27 years.
She
was united in marriage to Charley Gray Sept. 12, 1911 at Vona,
Colorado.
Survivors
include 3 daughters, Miss Zora Mae Gray of Westboro, Mrs. Alice Long of Lenox, and Mrs Cora Govrley of Denver, Colo;
a sister, Mrs. Marguarette
Adams
of Newark, New Jersey and a brother, Dewey Brelsford of Woodston, Kansas, also survive.
Funeral
services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17th in the Westboro United Methodist Church, with Rev. Roger Crossgrove officiating.
Burial was in the Center Grove Cemetery
at Westboro.

Haynes, Jack C -
Memorial
services for Jack C. Haynes, 46, of Des Moines, who died Thursday, Feb. 4th of
cancer, were held at the Highland Park Christian Church in the capital city.
Mr. Haynes' body was willed to the University of Iowa. Medical Science Center.
Mr.
Haynes, who had been ill a year, lived in Des Moines 25 years. He was born in
Lenox and graduated from high school here. He was employed as a shipping clerk
at the John Deere Des Moines Works.

include. his wife, Darlene, two daughters, Gayle and Jahn Marie at home, two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Cowman of Des Moines and Mrs. Thelma
Larimer of Lenox, and four brothers, Cleo of Griswold, Randall of Lenox, Harry

Blythe Lorene Damewood -
Mrs.
Kenneth E. Lucas, of Bedford, sister of Mrs. Coryl Miller, of the Lenox area, died March 10th at her home in Bedford.
Blythe
Lorene Damewood, daughter of Clyde M. and Blanche
Humphrey Damewood, was born August 11, 1913, in
Taylor County, Iowa, near Sharpsburg,
and
departed this life March 10, 1971 at the age of 57 years, 6 months and 27 days.
She
received her primary education at a country school near the farm where she grew
up and graduated from her high school course at Sharpsburg, Iowa.
Except
for approximately 3 years, 1943 to 1946 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she lived her
entire years in Taylor county.
On
March 20, 1937, she was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Lucas. To them was
born one son, Kenneth Dean Lucas, who is now married and lives with
his
wife, Kathy, and two children, Natalie Dee and Mitchell Scott, at Pella, Iowa.
She
became a Christian by confession of faith, and was baptized into the membership
of the Bedford Baptist Church on May 1, 1950.
She
was employed at the Style Shop in Bedford for approximately 9 years. She gave
up her work in 1969 when her health and strength began to fail.
She
was preceded in death by her father, Clyde M. on October 16, 1949.
Left
to cherish memories of her are her husband Kenneth, son Kenneth Dean and
family, her mother, Blanche Damewood of Bedford,
sisters Coryl (Mrs.
Bing
Miller) of Lenox, Margaret (Mrs. Vane Lucas) of Bedford, and Doris (Mrs. Mark
Anderson) of Lincoln, Nebraska, a host of nieces and nephews and many
fine
friends and neighbors.
She
was a kind and loving wife and mother. She was always kind and attentive to her
mother and enjoyed a close and loving relationship with her three sisters. She
had many friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Paymal, Eugene Francis -
Eugene
Francis Paymal, 62, longtime resident of Lenox, died
Saturday, March 13th as a result of burns received a few days previous.
Mr. Paymal was the only child of Frank and Pauline Haering Paymal, and was born July
17th, 1908. His death occurred at the Rosary hospital in Corning, la.,
where
he had been taken for treatment.
He
was born on a farm 2½ miles
west of Lenox, where he lived until he reached manhood. He received his elementary education at Grove
No. 1 school
and
then attended Lenox High school where he graduated with the Class of 1928.
Mr. Paymal was united in marriage to Norma Bush on June 18th,
1938. They were married at Pleasantville, Iowa, by the Reverend Floyd Shepherd,
a former Lenox minister. Following their marriage they lived at the Lenox
Hotel, which they operated, but with the love of the land in their hearts they
made their first home on a
farm
3 miles east of Lenox which has been their home these past 32 years.
He
has been a member of Tremont Lodge, No. 343, A.F. & A.M. since 1939. He was
also affiliated with the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine at Des
Moines, Iowa, and
a
member of the Lenox United Methodist Church.
He
was preceded in death by his father in 1945 and his mother in 1967. His wife,
Norma, survives him.
Mr. Paymal will be remembered by his relatives and his many
friends for his friendliness — his generous heart — how he enjoyed doing each
day's work,
his
love for his home and his concern and care for his loved ones.

services were conducted Monday, March 15th at 2:00 p.m. from the Bender Funeral
Home in Lenox with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor of
the United
Methodist
Church officiating.
Bearers
were Don Trost, Max Badgett,
Keith Lindell, James Wurster,
Everett Symonds and Raymond Trost.
Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Routh, Carrie Ann Tindle -
Mrs.
Carrie Routh, 83, of Lenox, died Tuesday at the
Greater Community hospital in Creston. She was a longtime resident of this
community.
Mrs. Routh was born May 1, 1888.
She
is survived by three sons, Marvin of Lenox, Lee and Francis of Diagonal.
Funeral
services will be held Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Lenox with
burial in the Clearfield cemetery.

Final
rites for Carrie Routh, 82, who died Tuesday, March
9, were held Thursday, March 11th from the United Methodist Church in Lenox.
Carrie
Ann Routh, daughter of Tom and Isabel Wyant Tindle, was born May 1, 1888
near Knowlton, Iowa, and passed from this life on March 9, 1971
at
the age of 82 years, 10 months and 8 days.
She
was united in marriage with Frank L. Routh on May 4,
1911, in the same home where she was born and raised. God blessed this union
with four sons,
Francis,
Lee, Freddie and Marvin. She was a true and faithful wife and a loving mother.
The Rouths lived on a farm in the Clearfield-Diagonal
vicinity
until
retiring to their home in Lenox in 1949.
She
was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her son, Freddie, two brothers,
George and Jim Tindle and her parents.
Left
to cherish her memory are three sons, Francis and Lee of Diagonal and Marvin of
Lenox, three daughters-in-law, Velda, Oneita and Dorothy, 8
grandchildren
in whom she found much pleasure, Gary, Kathleen, Gayle, Arden, Julie, Lenita, Joan and Jim and a host of relatives and friends.
She
joined church at an early age, was a member of the Methodist Church in
Clearfield, and later transferred to the Lenox Methodist Church.
Rev.
Floyd Newbrough officiated at the services with music
furnished by Marilyn Beck, Billie Jean Barker and Norma Paymal.
Bearers
were J. D. Ecklin, Elvin Riley, Delbert Routh, Max Tindle, Cletus Tindle and James Tindle.
Burial
was in the Clearfield cemetery.

Charles
Stanford (Stan) Rowe, 70, a long time
resident of Henry, Nebr., and a former Lenox resident, died at a Scottsbluff
hospital early, Thursday
morning,
Jan. 28th.
He
was born Sept. 10, 1894 at Arcadia, Neb., and spent his boyhood in Valley
County. He married Ethel May Dunkle Feb. 23, 1917 in Loup City. They
spent
their early married life in western Iowa. He moved his family to Mitchell in
1935 and to Henry in 1939 where he established, the C. S. Rowe & Sons
garage.
He
served a number of years on the Henry School Board, the city council and the
volunteer fire department.
Survivors
include his widow, four sons, George Franklin of Addison, Ill., Marvin Edwin of
Lincoln, Iowa, H. Dean of Tampa, Fla., and Robert Stanford
of
Torrington, three daughters, Mrs. Carroll (Mae) Couch of Lyman, Mrs. Loren
(Doris Marie) Pursel of Curtis Nebr., and Mrs. Sam
(Mary Lou) Appell of
Littleton,
Colo., two brothers, Richard of Union Grove, Wisc., and
Robert of Aiken, S. C., two sisters, Mrs. John Walden and Mrs. Henry Schrey, both of
Glendale, Calif, and 17 grandchildren and 13 great grand
children.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30th in the Henry Methodist Church.
Burial was in the Forest Lawn Memorial in Morrill.
Mr and Mrs. Byron Brown received the news of his death from Mrs. Stanford Rowe of
Henry. They were former residents of this city when he was
in
partnership with Mr. Brown in the garage business where the Dixon Motor is now
located.

Viola Julia Henderson -
Mrs.
Lee Short, 73, died at the Lenox Nursing Home Monday following a gradual
decline in health.
Viola
Julia Short, daughter of Lura M. Bennett and Joseph
Alexander Henderson was born October 22, 1897, and passed away on Monday, March
8, 1971
at
the age of 73 years.
She
was united in marriage to Lee Short on December 11, 1915 at Bedford, Iowa. They
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December 1956.
As a
young girl she joined the Presbyterian Church of Sharpsburg, Iowa, and later
transferred over to the Lenox Methodist Church.
She
was a loving mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren.
Her
husband passed away January 6, 1970.
She
is survived by seven children: Wayne Short of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mrs. Maxine
Kimball of Battle Creek, Michigan, Mrs. Darlene Cole of Rockford, Illinois,
Miss Wilma Short of Lenox, Iowa, Mrs. Helen Beckman of Rockford, Illinois, John
Short of Denison, Iowa, and Donald Short of Kansas City, Missouri. Also 8
grandchildren
and
one sister, Mrs. Emma Marley of Denver, Colo., survive.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and three sisters,

services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, Mar. 10th at 2:00 p.m. from the
Bender Funeral Home with Rev. Floyd Newbrough, pastor
of the
United
Methodist Church officiating.
Bearers
were Danny Kemery, Myrle Henderson, Kenneth Black, Reldon Beadel,
Vern Horton and John Horton.
Burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Neuhardt of rural Lenox, received word
Thursday morning of the death of Robert Smith, 2½, when he ran into the path of
a semi truck
at Moline,
Ill.
He
was a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Cleo A. Smith of Moline. Cleo Smith is Mrs. Neuhardt's step-brother and a former resident of Lenox.
Funeral
services were held Friday morning at Moline with burial at East Moline.

Symonds,
Ernest William -
Ernest
W. Symonds, 69, of Lenox, died Friday evening at Rosary Hospital in Corning. He
had been at the men's meeting at the Legion Hall that afternoon, left there to
go to the doctor's office and died soon after entering the hospital.
Ernest
William Symonds, son of Thomas and Laura Eckels Symonds, was born on a farm five miles northwest of Lenox, in Adams County,
Dec. 12, 1901, and passed away at the Rosary hospital in Corning Feb. 26th,
1971, after a brief illness.
Surviving
are his wife Florence, two daughters, Darlene Rich of Cedar Rapids and Dorothy
Baker of Clearfield, two sons, Dean of Davenport and Tommy of Omaha, Nebr.,
three sisters, Mae Case of Brighton, Colorado, Iola Steele of Knoxville, Sylvia
Cairns of Long Beach, California, two brothers, Raymond of Murray and Everett
of Lenox, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law and eight grandchildren.
Mr.
Symonds farmed all of his life in the Lenox, Kent and Cromwell communities. He
retired from farming in 1967 and moved to Lenox, where he resided until his
death.
Funeral
services were held Monday, March 1, 1971, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bender Funeral
Home in Lenox with Rev. John Wagner, pastor of the Salem Church of the
Brethren, officiating.
Music
was furnished by Mrs. James Beck and Billie Jean Barker, accompanied by Mrs.
Norma Paymal.
Pall/bearers
were Cornelius Brown, Dale Brown, Paul Brown, Lowell Steele, Merrill Steele and
Gene Van Orsdel.
Interment was in the Lenox cemetery.
