Andersen, Donna Marie Hiley -

Donna Marie Andersen, daughter of Wilda R. and Bertha Anderson Hiley, was born on May 24, 1924 at Creston, Iowa. She died at the Bishop Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on May 12, at the age of fifty-five years, eleven months, and eighteen days. Her death followed a lengthy illness.

Donna spent part of her childhood on a farm near Lenox. The family later moved to Council Bluffs and lived in Avoca during her high school years.

She was united in marriage with Peter W. Andersen on May 28, 1944 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She is survived by her husband, Pete of Lenox; two sons, Jim and Greg, both of Atlantic, Iowa; three brothers, Ray Hiley of Camdenton, Missouri. Donald Hiley of Imperial Beach, California; and Russell Hiley who lives in Scotland; four sisters, Corene Campbell of Lenox, Treva Parks of Longmont. Colorado, Melva Sellers of Glenwood, and Wilma Hill of Omaha. Also surviving are her step-mother, Eunice Hiley of Glenwood, a step-brother, Jack Malone of Council Bluffs as well

as a host of nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Carl, Dean and Art.

Services were held Thursday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church with Reverend Don Fisher officiating.

Music was provided by Roberta Lockhart at the organ and Gwen Maynes, soloist. The selections were "Rock of Ages" and "In the Garden".

Casket bearers were Mervin Schaaf, Allen Peters, LaVerne Kock, Pete Kroman, Ross Graner, and Dick Niaman.

Interment was in North Fairview Cemetery at Lenox. The Larkin-Bender Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Atkin, Kenneth M -

Kenneth M. Atkin of Yelm, Washington died April 29, 1980 in Olympia, Washington at the age of sixty eight years and eighteen days.

He was born in Lenox on April 11, 1912 to William Otto and Ruby Ellen Kerns Atkin. His childhood days were spent in Lenox prior to his moving to Missouri in 1929.

He was united in marriage to Jesse Winstone in July of i935. They moved to the state of Washington in 1973.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1972; a sister, Etta Mae in 1914, and by a son, Albert Allen.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie of Yelm, Washington; four sons, Howard of Omaha, Nebraska; Charles of Yelm, Washington; Kenneth of Friend, Nebraska; and Wilbur of Yelm, Washington; a daughter, Blanche Brown of Beatrice, Nebraska; seventeen grandchildren: three great grandchildren; his mother, Ruby, who lives at the Lenox Care Center; four

brothers, Guy of Yelm, Washington; Roy of Green Ridge, Missouri; Glenn of Silvis Heights, Illinois, and Donald of Phoenix, Arizona; and a sister, Neeva Brown, of Red Oak.

Services were held at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home on Monday, May 5, at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Larry Davidson officiating.

Musical selections played by Norma Paymal at the organ were "Beyond the Sunset" and "How Great Thou Art".

Pallbearers were Darrell Huber, Duane Huber, Steve Runnels, Tim Runnels, Jim Durfey, and Donald Hunt.

Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery at Lenox, Iowa.

Beck, Mary -

Bob Callahan of Lenox attended funeral services for his sister. Mrs. Mary Beck, held April 22 at the Baptist Church in Rock Port, Missouri. She died at the Eppley Care Center in Omaha, Nebraska following a long illness.

Survivors include four daughters and a son and two brothers and two sisters.

Brown, Eva Glendolin Rosalee Shelwan -

Eva Glendolin Rosalee Brown was born on March 2, 1902 at Sheridan, Missouri to Leon and Christie Rowen Shelwan. She died at the Lenox Care Center on May 19 at the age of seventy-eight years, two months and seventeen days.

She was united in marriage with Byron J. Brown at Sheridan, Missouri on September 5, 1920.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer "Blue Lady". Many hours of her time were devoted to volunteer work at the Clarinda State Hospital. She was presented with a pin representing 1,000 hours of volunteer service.

She was preceded in death by her husband. Byron, her parents, one daughter, three grandsons, and one brother.

Survivors include her five children: Charles of Lenox: Virgil of Council Bluffs; Veda Miller of Lenox, Marcella Briner of Diagonal, and Annabelle Jones of Des Moines, Iowa; two brothers, Arlie Shelman of Hopkins, Missouri: and Clyde Shelman of La Junta, Colorado, a sister, Buelah Dill of Lenox; fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home on May 21 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jack Cutbirth of the First Christian Church officiating.

Music was by Joyce Perry at the organ and Annabelle Jones, soloist. Selections were "Beyond The Sunset" and "How Great Thou Art".

Casket bearers were Donald Brown, James Johnson, Allen Briner, Steve Briner, Brian Brown, and Sydney Sickels.

Interment was in the East Fairview Cemetery.

Davenport, Margaretha Lenore Schultz -

Margarctha Lenore Schultz Davenport was born March 24, 1890 to John and Kathesena Schultz near Glen Ullin, North Dakota. She died May 30 in the Clearview Nursing Home in Mt.Ayr at the age of ninety years, two months and six days.

Her parents immigrated to America from Germany and pioneered land in North Dakota. She walked several miles to attend rural school and later was a student at North Dakota State Home Economics College. At the age of twenty-one, Margaret homesteaded one hundred sixty acres near Glen Ullin and walked or rode a horse into town to work at her dress shop.

She was united in marriage with John Stewart Davenport on February 20, 1917 in Elgin, North Dakota. They spent one year in Missouri before moving to their farm northwest of Diagonal in 1921. She continued to live there until recently when she became a resident of Clearview Nursing Home in Mt. Ayr.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, and writing poetry. She pieced and made many quilts, some of which earned her blue ribbons at various fairs. Margaret was a member of the Congregational Church in Glenn Ullin and also of neighborhood clubs near her home at Diagonal.

She is survived by her four sons and their wives; John and Marjorie of Creston; Marshall and Lois of Waterloo, la.: Donald and Lee of Edmonds, Washington; and Russell and Floy of Diagonal; sixteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three step-great granddaughters, one brother, Enoch Schultz of Bismarck. North Dakota, a sister, Lydia Mills of Pasadena, California and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1948, her parents, five brothers, one sister, and one grandson, Noel Davenport.

Services were held in the Platte Center Church on June 2 with Reverend Roger Graf officiating. Leslie Ide was the organist with Darl Bell as soloist.

Casketbearers were LeRoy Francis, Paul Vanderpluym, Marvin Wyer, Mike Austin, Eddie Austin, and Roy Davenport.

Interment was in the Rising Sun Cemetery northwest of Diagonal.

Dieleman, Larry Edward -

Larry Edward Dieleman, age 17, died at his home April 10 at 6 a.m.

The funeral was Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lenox, the Rev. W.C. Trembly officiating. Roberta Lockhart was organist, with congregational singing of "Rock of Ages", and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Burial was at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella with committal service at 1:30 p.m. Casket bearers were Walter Meier, Benny Meier, Joseph Meier, Mark Finck, Lance Johnston and Doug Davis.

Larry Edward Dieleman, the son of Edward Duane and Sharyl Kay Lucas Dieleman, was born Dec. 5, 1962 at Albia, Iowa. The family lived in Pella before moving to Lenox.

Larry was in the tenth grade at the Lenox Community School. He was interested in reading and hearing about airplanes, especially those of World War II vintage. He also enjoyed bowling.

He leaves to mourn his parents, two brothers, Tom, 15, and Roger, 10; one sister, Danielle, 9; also grandparents, Daniel and Marie Dieleman of Pella and Ottis and Ruth Lucas of Bussey; great grandparents, Edward and Ruth Gordon of Clearfield, Ella Lucas, Lovilia, and Lena Dieleman of Pella.

The minister who officiated at the committal service was Rev. Plantiga of Pella. Casket bearers there were Walter, Benny and Joseph Meier, John and Jim Dieleman and Richard Hiemstra.

Hall, Allen David -

Funeral. services for Allen Hall were held Thursday, May 15, 1980 at 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church, with Rev. Donald Jones officiating.

Interment was in Nishnabotna Cemetery. Casketbearers were Virgil Bueltel, Dick McCullough, Dale McCone, Bob Bohnker, Hal Cadwell, and Gilbert Bandow. Honorary casketbearers were Wendell Argotsinger, Leonard Ohrt, Leonard Cadwell, Dr. J. M. Hennessey, Henry Weazel, Wayne Flickinger, Kenny Steckelberg, and Anthony Schroer.

Allen David, son of Rollin and Emma Beaumont Hall, was born January 28, 1917, south of Corning, He graduated from the Corning High School in 1934 and worked on the family farm.

He was united in marriage with Leota Drorbaugh June 1, 1941 at her home near Lenox. They farmed 10 miles south of Lenox for about four years after which they moved to their present farm home north of Manilla in 1946. Allen had been in ill health for the past couple of years and retired from active farming a year ago. He died at the University Hospital in Omaha late Monday night, May 12 at the age of 63 years, three months, and 14 days.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Manilla, an active member of the Farm Bureau, which organization he served in many offices. He also was a member of the Manilla school board for seven years.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Raymond Hall.

He is survived by his wife Leota, by one son, Gary and his wife, Pam of Harlan, by one daughter, Anita Lee (Mrs. Thomas) Benda of Beaumont, Tex., by eight grandchildren, as well as by many other relatives and friends.

Harris, Max Arthur -

Funeral services for Max Arthur Harris, 35, of Conway, held April 15 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Rev. Carl Cummings. Mr. Harris died April 12, 1980 in Clarkson Memorial Hospital in Omaha.

Interment was at the Conway Cemetery, Conway, Iowa.

Max Arthur Harris, son of Paul and Dorothv Harris, was born at Conway, Iowa, July 31, 1944.

He lived and grew to maturity near Conway where he attended the public school and the Methodist Church.

On January 21, 1966, he was united in marriage to Ruth Harlow at Bedford, Iowa, and to them one son, John Arthur was born.

He was engaged in business with his parents, the Harris Auto Parts of Conway.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Paul and Dorothy Harris; his son, John Arthur Harris; grandmother, Mary K. Harris of Clarinda, Iowa; uncles; aunts; cousins; other relatives and a host of friends.

He was a kind and considerate son and father and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Hill, Donald C -

Donald C. Hill, son of Peter and Lydia Dudgeon Hill, was born on March 31, 1902 on a farm in Lincoln township, Adams County. Iowa. He died May 10 at the Bishop-Clarkson Hospital in Omaha at the age of seventy-eight years, one month and nine days. His death was sudden, due to heart failure.

In 1907 he moved with his family from the farm in Lincoln township to the present farm home north of Corning.

He was united in marriage with Leta Buxton of Lenox, Iowa at Mankato, Minn, on September 28. 1925. They farmed the family homestead for fourteen years.

In 1938 he established the Corning Locker Service. He was actively involved in the operation of both the farm and the Corning Meat Processing Plant at the time of his death.

Mr. Hill was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church, president of the Adams Mutual Insurance Association and was an early member and past president of the Corning Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife, Leta of Corning; two daughters, Marian Champ and husband John of Waterloo, and Marleta Matheson and husband Charles of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Brian Champ of Davenport, Stephen Champ of McCook, Nebr., Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Holzapfel of Waterloo. Laura Matheson of Hollywood. Calif.; three great grandchildren. Ben and Heather Champ and Janie Holzapfel. and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mabel Shaw, Agnes Saunders and Grace Tripp.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 13 at the First Presbyterian Church in Corning with the Reverend VV.H. Sinning

officiating. The congregation sang "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" and "Come Christians Join to Sing." Organist was Dorothy Cook. A memorial was established for the church.

Casket bearers were Howard Cooley, Jim Kearns, Loyl Norcross, Francis Retland, Harry Grundman and Ted Turner.

Interment was in the Walnut Grove Cemetery at Corning.

The Larkin-Roland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

McClelland, Artie Mable Naven -

Artie Mable McClelland, the daughter of George and Jane Baimer Naven was born July 14, 1886 near Stronghurst, Illinois.

She passed away April 19, 1980 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa after a short illness. She was 93 years 9 months and 5 days old.

She was united in marriage to Robert G. McClelland on September 15, 1909 in Corning. Iowa. On September 15, 1979, they celebrated seventy years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: William, Clyde, and Clarence Naven. and by one sister, Jessie Pool.

Survivors include her husband, Robert, and many nieces and nephews.

She became a member of the Iveyville Church at an early age. Her childhood was spent in Taylor county. After her marriage

to Robert they moved to South Dakota where they resided until 1937, when they returned to the Lenox and Corning communities in Iowa.

She enjoyed the many hours  she spent working with her flowers and garden. Aunt Artie especially enjoyed the time spent with her nieces and nephews and their families. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Larkin-Roland Funeral Home in Corning on April 21 at 2 p.m. with Reverend Ray Thompson officiating. Music was provided by Erma Fuller, organist, who accompanied vocalists Doris Swartz and Dale Jackson.

Pallbearers were Hollis Naven, Norman Naven, Edward Naven, Ronald Naven, Dean Naven and Max Pool.

Interment was in the Prairie Rose Cemetery south of Corning, Iowa.

Reynolds, Edith M Jarvis -

Edith M. Reynolds, 101 years old, died at the Clearview Nursing Home in Clearfield, Tuesday afternoon, April 1, 1980.

Services were Thursday, April 3, at 3 p.m., at the Larkin-Bender Funeral Home, Pastor Jack Cutbirth of the Christian Church officiating.

Harley A. Porter was organist. Casket bearers were Paul England, Bob Reynolds, David England, Doug England, Max Pankau and Don Round.

Interment was in East Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Mrs. Reynolds was born Oct. 15, 1878, to Noah and Sarah Ann Jarvis near Redding, Iowa. In 1897 she moved with her parents to Wimbleton, N.D.

On Sept. 23, 1903, she was married to Elmo Reynolds, who was the son of John and Disene Reynolds of Lenox. Most of their married life was spent in Minneapolis, Minn., where Mr. Reynolds had a chiropractic practice. After retirement they moved to Englewood, Calif., where Mr. Reynolds died Dec. 16, 1955.

Mrs. Reynolds moved back to this area, at Creston first, then to the Bunn Apartment on Main Street in November of 1969.

She lived there until April of 1976, when she became a resident of the nursing home.

When she was twelve years old, Mrs. Reynolds became a member of the Methodist Church. Through her 90's she enjoyed the service at the Lenox Christian Church, and regularly attended there.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Gladys Jarvis of Wimbleton, N.D. Many friends and relatives enjoyed her acquaintance and admired her for her independence.

Richey, Perley Edward (Pete) -

Pete Richey of Lenox died at the Rosary Hospital in Corning after being rushed there by ambulance on Sunday afternoon.

He was eighty seven years old.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church with Reverend Don Fisher officiating.

Burial will be in the North Fairview Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Richey, Perley Edward (Pete) -

Perley Edward "Pete" Richey was born October 9, 1892 in Sharpsburg, Iowa. He died May 4 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning at the age of eighty seven years, six months and twenty five days.

He was the son of Ison Edward and Margaret Ann Cochran Richey. His entire life was spent in the Lenox and Sharpsburg areas.

He was united in marriage with Edna Bergston Eischen at Sioux Falls, South Dakota on January 7, 1948.

Survivors include his wife, Edna of Lenox; two brothers, Ed Richey of Lenox and Howard Richey of Sun City, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held Wednesday, May 7, at 2 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox with Reverend Don Fisher officiating. Roberta Lockhart, organist, accompanied Gwen Maynes as she sang "What a Friend We Have In Jesus".

Casket bearers were George Sweeney, Glen Norton, Jake Larson, Lloyd Hamblin, Leonard Knott, and Russell Gordon.

Interment was in the North Fairview Cemetery. The Larkin-Bender Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of arrangements.

Roudybush, Martha Mae Struwe -

Martha Mae Struwe Roudybush, youngest daughter of Carrie Eckels and Sam Struwe was born March 23, 1907 in Adams County near the Stringtown area. She departed this life April 28, 1980 at the Des Moines General Hospital at the age of seventy-three years, one month, and five days.

Her elementary education was accomplished in Ringgold County. She graduated from Lenox High School in 1924 at the age of seventeen, the youngest member of her class. She then taught four years in rural schools.

She was united in marriage with Clifford W. Roudybush on May 22, 1929 in Creston, Iowa. They moved to a farm four miles south of Diagonal. In 1930 they moved to a farm in Ringgold County east of Lenox where their twin daughters were born. In 1934 they moved to a farm south of Clearfield and became active in that community. In 1945 they bought and moved to the present farm.

Martha returned to teaching in rural schools for four years. Due to the failing health of her husband, she continued her education by attending Creston Junior College and Drake University, receiving her degree there in 1967.

After her husband's death in 1959, she taught at Minden, Bridgewater, Lenox, and Greenfield. She retired in 1972.

She was a talented person, always busy and devoted to her family.

At an early age, she became a member of Calvary Methodist Church east of Lenox on Highway 25. When it closed, her membership was transferred to the Lenox Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, her father in 1954 and her mother in 1970.

Survivors include her twin daughters, Kathlyn Rae Brown and Maralyn Rose Barker, sons-in-law; Bob Brown and Don Barker; ten grandchildren, Patricia Wilson, Gary Brown, Deanna Gaule, Bill Brown, Jim Brown, Sheryl Leonard, Ron Brown, Barbara Rauch, Sandra O'Riley, and Steve Barker. She is also survived by seventeen great grandchildren; Janie and

Joni Wilson, Jennifer, Stephanie and Ryan Brown, Stoney and Travis Gaule; Sara, Chad and Angela Brown, Jamie and Jenny Leonard, David, Brian and Michael Rauch, Derek and Kyle O'Riley, one sister, Iva Pugh, and two nieces, Carolyn Johnson and Marlene King.

Services were held on Thursday, May 1 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lenox with Reverend W. C.

Trembly officiating. Music was by Norma Paymal, organist, and Forrest and Margaret Whipp, vocalists. Selections were "Beyond the Sunset", "How Great Thou Art" and "I Won't Have to Cross Jordan Alone."

Pallbearers were Gary Brown, Bill Brown, Jim Brown, Steve Barker, Ron Brown, and Brent Johnson.

Interment was in the West Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Schoeppel, Robert Arthur -

Robert Arthur Schoeppel. son of Irving W. and Clara M. Baur Schoeppel, was born on May 24, 1924 in Ellis Grove. Illinois. He died at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, Iowa on July 20, at the age of fifty-five years, eleven months and twenty- five days.

He received his elementary and secondary education in the Ellis Grove and Chester, Illinois schools. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1954 and received his Master's Degree from Syracuse University in 1964. Mr. Schoeppel had been employed by the city of St. Louis before moving to a farm in the Lenox community.

He was united in marriage with Martha E. Samelson at the McKinley Presbyterian Church in Champagne, Illinois on May 29, 1955.

Survivors include his wife, Martha: one daughter, Virginia of the home; his mother, Clara M. Schoeppel of Montgomery City, Missouri: two brothers, Norman of Mexico, Missouri and Calvin of Aurora, Illinois, a sister, Mrs. H.Y. Greeley of Aurora, Illinois; ten nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Services were held in the United Methodist Church in Lenox at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 23 with Reverend William C. Trembly officiating. Music was by Norma Paymal, organist.

Casket hearers were Franklin Rogers, Ronald Rogers, Gary Freeman, Lester West, John Cade, and Leland Wurster.

Interment was in the North Fairview Cemetery.

Sexton, Carl Darwin -

Carl Darwin Sexton, 46, assistant registrar at Central Missouri State University, died April 23 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. He was born in New Market, Iowa on May 22, 1933, the son of Nathan Carl and Hazle Akers Sexton.

He was married to Karen Todd June 5, 1965 in Appleton City. Mr. Sexton was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Phi Delta Kappa, and was a past exalted ruler of the Elks Club. He had been vice president for education of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

A graduate of Lenox Community High School, Mr. Sexton received his bachelor's degree from Northwest Missouri State University and his master's and specialist degrees from CMSU. He had taught high school in Clinton for seven years before returning to CMSU as an academic advisor, and later was appointed assistant registrar.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Curtis; one daughter, Kenda; his mother, Hazle Sexton of Lenox; a sister. Phyllis Murdock of Independence, Iowa; three nieces and one nephew.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger Beese and Rev. David Bloedel officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
