Campbell, Chas. -
Funeral
services were held Sunday at the Methodist Church for Chas. Campbell who was
injured in an auto accident at the junction of Highway 148 and No. 2 on
Thursday morning, and passed away at the Maryville hospital that evening. Burial at Old Memory
cemetery.

Mary Eslinger –
Grandma Dille, 93 year old mother of John Dille,
local banker [Gravity] passed away Friday morning at the Municipal Hospital in
Clarinda. The body was taken to Moravia
Sunday where funeral and burial was held Monday.

Hidlay,
Truman -
Truman Hidlay, youngest son of Mr.
and Mrs. David Hidlay, was born Sept. 21, 1871 in Millidgevllle, Ill. He came to Iowa
with his parents in 1881 and passed from this life in Maryville Hospital Aug. 26,
1953.
On Jan. 25, 1899 he was united in marriage to Stella P. Nevill, to whom four daughters were born: Zeta Chambers of
California; Marvel Hayes and Eleanor Fulton, Bedford, la.,
and Mary Rood of Cleveland, Ohio.
Surviving besides the wife and daughters are three
granddaughters; 5 great grandsons; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Bicknell
of Regina, Sask., Canada; other relatives and many friends.
He lived near Clearfield until 1911 moving with his family
to Drinkwater, Canada, returning to Clearfield in 1920 and was associated in
Maple Leaf Garage until 1945. He moved to Bedford May 9, 1953. He was a member
of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star.
He was a beloved husband and father and will be missed by
his loved ones.
Funeral rites were held from the Methodist Church in
Clearfield Friday, 2 p. m. Graveside services in charge of Masonic
order at Clearfield cemetery.

Mrs. Bert
Huffman died Oct. 29, 1953 at Spokane, Wash., at the age of 79 years. She was
the daughter of Zed and Martha
Beamer and
was married Oct. 27, 1892 to Herbert Huffman, who preceded her in death only 7
weeks ago, Sept. 11. They were the parents of three sons, Floyd Huffman, who
died Oct. 22, 1931 and Merle Huffman of Benton and Zed
Huffman of
Orifino,
Idaho; two daughters Bernice Wasson and Edith Huffman of Spokane, Wash; also 6
grandchildren and 12 great
grandchildren who were very dear to their grandparents. Funeral services from
the Methodist church and interment in
Clearfield cemetery Nov. 3.

Lena D. Beamer –
Lena D.
Beamer, daughter of Zaddock and Martha Stephenson
Beamer was born south of Clearfield March 10, 1875, and departed this life in
Spokane, Wash. Oct. 29, 1953 at the age of 75, years, 7 months and 19
days. She attended the rural school near
her parents home where she grew to womanhood.
On October
27, 1892 she was united in marriage to Herbert T. Huffman, son of Mr. and Mrs.
C. Huffman of Delphos. They located on a
farm south of Clearfield. To this union
were born five children, but one son Floyde E. died
Oct. 22, 1931. Surviving are two sons,
Merle L. of Benton, Zed H. of Orofina, Idaho, two
daughters, Bernice Wasson and Edith Huffman of Spokane, Wash.
In 1921 they
moved to Clearfield where they lived until 1950 when they went to Spokane to be
near their daughters. She was a member
of the Methodist Church. Mrs. Huffman
was president of WRC for 25 years, also Oracle of the RNA for the same period
and remained a member of both organizations until her death. She was a member of Kennington Club.
Her life was
a useful one. Besides her untiring
devotion to her family she served her community well. Mr. and Mrs. Huffman not only celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary in 1942, but also their 60th in 1952. Preceding her in death was the son Floyde and her husband Bert only seven weeks previous
on Sept. 11, 1953.
Surviving
besides the two sons and two daughters are 6 grandchildren and 12 great
grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday Nov. 3 in the Methodist Church,
Clearfield, Rev. C. E. McPherson, Minister. Interment in Clearfield cemetery.

Leonard Kitzman, 52, teacher m the
Greenfield school for the past 8 years, died in his sleep Tuesday night, Jan.
12. He had
not been ill. Mr. Kitzman taught the three years previous
to going to Greenfield and was well known and liked.
Memorial service will be Thursday at Greenfield school
auditorium, with funeral service and burial at Sigourney. One brother survives.

Frank Newton Lewellen, son of Manuel S. and Clara Clapp Lewellen, was born August 10, 1877, at Albia, la., and passed
away quietly at
his home near Sharpsburg, Jan. 11, 1954, at the age of 76 years, 5 months, and
1 day. He was preceded in death by his
parents, his wife, one brother and one sister.
He was
united in marriage to Alta Mae Falconer Feb. 15, 1905. To this union two sons
were born: Percy N. of Des Moines,
and Dale W. of near
Sharpsburg. Except for the first year of their marriage, which
was spent in Kansas, the Lewellens
farmed in Adams County, la., until 1923 when they moved to the farm near Sharpsburg
which was their home for the remainder of their lives.
Mr. Lewellen was a member of the Presbyterian Church in
Sharpsburg where he was an Elder, serving in an active capacity until the last
year, and was Church Treasurer until his first illness two months ago.
He is
survived by his two sons, 3 grandchildren, and 3 nephews, and will be greatly
missed by them, by his other relatives and his many friends and neighbors.
Funeral
services were held at the Presbyterian church in
Sharpsburg Wednesday January 13 at 2 p.m. with Donald W. Watkins
officiating. Music was by a mixed
quartet accompanied by Mrs. Watkins. Pall bearers were Spencer Peck, Clifford
Young, Chester Hamblin, Charles Reed, Amasa Hamblin
and Glenn Brown. Interment
in the Carl, Ia. cemetery.

Friends of Mrs. Wilmer Littlefield of Manchester, Ind. were
saddened to get the news of her passing away Sunday morning. Mrs. Littlefield will be remembered as Bessie Caskey. She
was a resident of Salem for many years.

23. She is survived by her husband, a brother of late Mrs. Simon Jarvis and

in the drug business in Clearfield at an early time.

Smith received word of the death Tuesday night of his father, Lewis C. Smith,
age 77. He had been a resident of
Creston the
past seven years, but previous to that had lived in Clarke county where he was a teacher for 20
years. Funeral
services were held in Murray Jan. 1 with burial in Hopeviile Cemetery.

Smith, 89, of Okmulgee, Okla. died July 22, 1953, and his brother, Paul Smith,
80, of Spokane, Wash., died Sept. 30, 1953. Their former home is now owned by Charley Brokaw.

cemetery.
