Arnold, Ralph -
Ralph Arnold
died at the home of his son, O. P. Arnold, in Lenox, Friday, August 23, 1935,
at the age of 87 years 8 months and 1 days. He was
born Dec. 2, 848 near Barryville, Arkansas.
He was
married, March 4, 1875, to Isabelle Prickett, arid to them were born five sons, one of whom died in
infancy. Ira passed away February 18,' 1896. Mrs.
-Arnold died October 10, 1910.
He is
survived .by his three sons, Chas. B. Arnold of Cloverton,
Minn., Roy .Arnold of Ambrose, N. Dak., and O. P.
Arnold of Lenox. There are also seven
grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mr. Arnold
spent most of his life in Marion county on the farm,
to which he was devoted. Funeral services were held at Fairview church, Monday,
Aug.
26, in charge of the Rev. I. G. Randels of Lenox. Burial was
made in Lincoln cemetery.

Blocher,
Cora Belle -
Cora Belle Blocher was born in Newburn, Iowa, April 3, 1870 and died at Eaton, Colorado
August 7, 1935. She came to Lenox when 5 years old.
She was married to G. M. Blocher,
December 9, 1886, and to them were born eight
children, none of whom survive. She became a follower of Christ when a
girl living in Lenox and her last membership was with the Baptist church at Eaton,
Colorado.
She is survived by her husband, and two sisters, Mrs. Cordelia Cunningham, Des Moines, and Mrs. Emma Marks, Santa
Monica, Calif.
Funeral services were held at the Arnold Funeral home in
Lenox in charge
of the Rev. I. G. Randels Saturday, August 10, 1935, in
Lenox. Burial was made in the Lenox
cemetery.

Roy Brown
died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Brown, Saturday, August 10,

Obituary
Roy Brown,
son of Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Brown died Friday afternoon, August 9th at the home of
his parents Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Brown of Sharpsburg. He was 35 years of age.
For several
years Roy has run the county tractor used for grading purposes. He has been
sick for several months and all that loving hands and medical skill could do
was done, but the Lord saw best to take him.
He leaves to
mourn his departure his wife, one girl and two boys, his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. O. M. Brown and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were held in the Presbyterian church at
Sharpsburg, Monday afternoon at 2 p. m. with Interment at Gravity.

Butcher, W. S. -
Word was
received Sunday morning by Mrs. A. J. Abarr of the
death of her nephew, Dr. W. S. Butcher of Des Moines.
Dr. Butcher
was a graduate of the Ellston High School, teaching
in the schools of Ringgold county. He graduated from
the Still College of Osteopathy in Des Monies. He has practiced in Des Moines
since his graduation.
He leaves to
mourn his going his faithful wife, 3 daughters, Helen La Royce and Wilma Alice,
3 sisters and 3 brothers and a host of relatives and friends.
Will was a
resident of Clearfield for many years running a butcher shop and will be
remembered by many. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30
at the Dunn Funeral Home. Interment in Glendale cemetery.

Floyd -
Floyd
Draper, son of Jesse and Etta Draper, was born at Kent, la.,
Jan. 13, 1904 and died at Clarinda, la., August 27, 1935, aged 31 years, 7
months and 14
days.
He spent
most of his life at Lenox until about five years ago when he went to Clarinda.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs Roy Harne of Creston, 4 brothers, Earl of
Pleasantville, Leo of Lawrenceburg, Ind., Harvey and Lester at home; 4 sisters,
Mrs. Pete Woosley, Mrs. Arthur Miller and Mrs.
Hershel Turner, all of Creston, and Mrs. Roy Madden, Kent. His father and one
sister died six years ago.
Funeral
services were held a the Church of Christ in Lenox
Thursday, August 29, at 2:30, in charge of the Rev. E. E. Lister of Creston.
Burial was made in the Lenox cemetery.

Fitzgerald, John Franklin -
John Franklin Fitzgerald died at his home at Kent, July 24,
1935, and funeral services were held at St. Patrick's church in Lenox at 9
o'clock Friday morning, July 26, in charge of Father Pouget.
Burial was made in Fairview cemetery, Lenox. Mr. Fitzgerald was born September
5, 1861 and was 73 year years of age.

McGinnis,
Wm. J. -
Wm. J.
McGinnis, 68, died at his home at Adel, la., August 2,
1935 following a stroke of paralysis. Mr. McGinnis was the father of Miss
Fayola McGinnis
who was the
commercial teacher in the Lenox schools for about three and a half years.
Mr. McGinnis
had lived on a farm near Adel for 25 years and had lived in town for the past
eight years. He was engaged in a number of business activities since moving to
town, says the Adel News, and his latest venture was the McGinnis Cabin Camp on
Highway No. 6. He was a member of the town council
and was
prominent in county and Farm Bureau affairs.
Funeral
services were held at the Church of Christ, Sunday, August 4 and the News says
the attendance was the largest seen there in many years.
Besides Miss
Fayola McGinnis is survived by five other children. His wife died
September 7,
1932, during the first week Miss McGinnis taught here.

Martha O. –
Mrs. Martha
O. Miller, 62, mother of Raymond Miller of Lenox, died at her home at Bedford,
Monday. Funeral services were held at the Wetmore funeral
home Wednesday
conducted by the pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was made at Bedford
where Mrs. Miller had lived for the past 15 years.
She is
survived by six children Kila Stickleman,
Blanche Smith, Cleo Perkins, Thelma VanRenan, Elva
Miller and Raymond Miller. Her husband, Orlando Miller died in 1922.

Orr,
Delbert –
Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Orr received a telegram about 4 o'clock Tuesday morning informing them that
their son, Delbert Orr, had been seriously injured in an accident. He had been
working with his uncle, Linn Ferris, at Fresno, California. This telegram was
sent from Fresno at 11:45 Monday night.
A little
later Monday morning another telegram was received informing them that their
son had died. This telegram was sent from Fresno at 6:36 Tuesday
morning.
Delbert Orr
was 35 years old and had made his home in California for several years.

Reed,
John Charles Freemont -
John Charles
Freemont Reed was born May 26, 1893, in Union county, Iowa, and died at his
home north of Clearfield, July 7, 1935, at the age of 72 years.
He was the
son of J. H. and Damarius Reed. At the age of 3 years
he moved with his parents to Taylor county.
He was
married to Lenora Custer, December 19, 1888, and they moved to the home in
Taylor county where he resided until his death.
To Mr. and
Mrs. Reed were born ten children, two of whom preceeded him in death.
He is
survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ferris and Mrs. Helen Ferris,
both of Des Moines, and six sons, Harry of Shenandoah, Ralph of Clearfield,
Glenn of Ellston, Addis of Diagonal and Johnny of Lenox.
There are also two brothers, T. B. Reed of Greenfield and D. B. Reed of Idaho
Falls, Idaho,
and three
sisters, Mrs. E. J. Oshel of Orient, Iowa, Mrs. A. T.
Cochran of Lake View Ore., and Mrs. J. K. Donavon of Creston, la. He is also
survived ny 11 grandchildren,
two great grandchildren.
Mr. Reed
became a member of the Calvary church in 1886. He was a loving husband and
father and a friend to all who knew him.
Funeral
services were held in he Methodist church at Clearfield, Tuesday, July 30, at 2
o’clock, in charge of the Rev. J.C. ;. Turner. Burial was made in the Lenox cemetery.

Reed, Mary Elizabeth Caplinger -
Mary
Elizabeth Caplinger, eldest daughter of Wm. and
Elizabeth Caplinger, was born in Lee county, Iowa, May 28, 1853, and died at the home of her
daughter-in-law, Mrs. Faith Reed, of Lenox, Sept. 6, 1935, aged 82 years, 3
months and 8 days.
Her parents
were pioneers, coming here in 1854. Her father was a veteran of both the Civil
and Mexican wars. She moved with her parents to Ringgold
county in 1855 and later with them to a farm in Taylor county, where she resided until
her marriage to James H. Reed, in September 1872. Mr. Reed died in 1921.
In 1883 they
moved to Adams county, to the place known as the Reed
farm, which was her home until the death of her son, Ross, in 1930. Since then
she has made her home in Lenox.
Mrs Reed was
the mother of three children, Adaline, who died in
infancy, LeRoy, who died in 1925, and Ross who died
in 1930. Besides her two daughters-in-laws, she is survived by two
grandchildren Gladys Reed and Opal
Miller and one great grandchild, Marilyn Miller, and one sister, Mrs Ollie Wheeler of Portland, Ore. Four brothers and one
sister preceded her in death.
Mrs Reed united
with the church held at the Caplinger school house
when 10 years old. Later she united with the Prairie Star Presbyterian church
of which she remained a member until her death. As long as health permitted she
was a loyal attendant at services at Prairie Star and in Lenox. Mrs. Reed was
the last survivor of the early pioneers of this community.
Funeral
services were held at the Presbyterian church in
Lenox, Sunday, Sept. 8, conducted by the Rev. W .L. Shepherd of the local
Methodist church. Music was furnished by
a quartet composed of Mrs. Glen Leekliter, Mrs. Ben
Waster, W. C. Lewis and Paul Davis. Burial was made beside her husband and
children in the Lenox cemetery

Schultz, Henry C. -
Henry C.
Schultz died suddenly at his home southwest of Lenox Friday morning August 9.
Although he had not been in good health for many months
his condition
was not considered serious and his death came as a shock to the community.
Mr. Schultz
had lived in the county since 1894 and was an extensive landowner. He and his
family took great pride in their home and the Schultz home is known as one of
the most beautiful in this section.
Funeral services
were held at the home Sunday, August 11, and were in charge of the Rev. F. L.
Shepherd. Music was furnished by Mrs. Roy Long, Mrs. W. H. Madden, W. C. Lewis,
Earl Beadel and Marvin Fleming, with Mrs. A. H.
Peacock at the piano.
Burial was
made in the Lenox cemetery and services at the grave were in the charge of the
Masonic fraternity. The funeral was largely attended by those
with whom Mr.
Schultz had made an affect.
Obituary
Henry C.
Schultz, youngest son of John and Elizabeth Schultz, was born in Essex, Ill.,
October 25, 1861, and died at his home in Taylor county, Friday,
August 9, 1935, at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 15 days.
He came to
Iowa when a young man and settled in Taylor county in
1894 where he lived until his death.
He was married
to Melissa Jane Akers in 1888 and to them were born
four children. A son, John, and a daughter Evelyn, preceeded him in death. His wife passed away March
19, 1935. Two children Edna and Flossie, survive him.
He was a
member of the Lutheran church, the Masonic fraternity and the Order of the
Eastern Star.

died at his home here [Sharpsburg] Friday, August 9, after several months of
suffering. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday, August

Shum of Sharpsburg died at his home Friday afternoon after an illness of fourteen

Stamper, Rosie Jennette Sayles -
Rosie Jennette Sayles, daughter of John Francis and Jeannette
Abigail Sayles, was born May 1, 1906, at Amazonia Mo., and died at the
Methodist hospital
in St. Joseph
Mo., August 3,1935.
She lived
with her parents at Amazonia until 11 years old when the family moved to Lenox
and here she grew to womanhood. She was married to Ralph
Stamper of
Clearfield, October 23 1924. To them were born four children, Dean Edward, John
Richard, Doris Catherine and Ralph Reldon.
Mrs. Stamper
was a kind and loving mother.
Besides her
husband and children, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Sayles,
one sister, Irene, and two brothers, Raymond and Leonard of Hopkins, Mo., and a
grandmother, Martha Turner o f Amazonia, Mo. One sister died in infancy.
Funeral
services were held at Clearfield and burial was made there.

Toland,
Stephen S. –
Stephen S. Toland son of William J. and Eliza Toland,
was born in McDonough County, Ill. May 31,1849 and
died at the hospital in Iowa City August 10,1935
at the age 86
years 2 months and 9 days.
On Oct. 19,
1872 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Pierce. To them were born six children, 3 sons and 3
daughters—Charles F. deceased, Mrs. Josephine Peak, Mrs. Alta Bowers, Earl R. Toland and Mrs. Elsie Locke all of Kent and Albert of
Glendale, Calif. There are also living 16 grand children and 7 great grandchildren . His wife, aged and frail, survives him.
On May 12
1864 he enlisted with Company I. 137, Ill., Infantry. His first active engagement was in the battle
of Memphis Aug 21,1864. He united with the Union City
Christian church in 1897. He was the first rural mail carrier out of Kent,
established in 1901. Was later postmaster appointed in 1907. He was one of the early mayors of Kent, and a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge.
He was the last commander of Kent J. P. Shively Post, while his old comrade Geo. W. La Master the only surviving member of that one time
strong post, was the last mustering officer.
Mr. Toland resided in the Kent community continuously, with the
exception of one year in Nebraska, for a period of 59 years.
Funeral
services were held at the Toland home in Kent, Monday,
August 12, at 2:30, in charge of the Rev. I. G. Randels of Lenox Church of Christ. Burial was made in the cemetery three miles south of
Kent.
