Burge, Gertrude Leah -
Gertrude Leah Burge, 81, of 1120 N. Street, Gering, Neb.
passed away at her home last Friday. Services were held the
following Monday afternoon at the Boley Dennis Funeral home in
Gering, with the Rev Richard Carlyon conducting the
rites. Burial in Gering West Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs Burge was born March 1, 1873 at Plattsburg, Mo. She attended the Plattsburg
schools and was graduated from the
John Hopkins Hospital of
Nursing in Galveston, Texas.
On Sept 9, 1901 she was married to Harlan Burge at St
Joseph, Mo. Following their marriage they came to Gravity, la.,
where they lived until 1921, when they went to Gering.
She was a member of the Methodist church and the Golden Rule
Sunday school class. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs C R McDowell of St Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs Kenneth Datel of Terrytown. Two sons, Cleo Burge of Gering and Kenneth of San Leando, Calif.; a sister, Mrs Florence Kendall of St Joe, Mo.; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Chitty, Sarah Rosena Rascher –
Sarah Rosena Rascher was born in Taylor
County, Ia., near Gravity, Dec. 28, 1876, and entered into rest Aug. 28, 1954
at the age of 77 years and 8 months, after several weeks of illness at the home
of her son, Paul.
She was
united in marriage to William Andrew Chitty of Gravity, Dec. 1, 1896. They established a home in Gravity. After seven years they moved to a farm south
of Conway, returning in 1914 at Sharpsburg.
To this
union two sons were born Paul Edwin of Sharpsburg and Glenn Herman who passed
away after six months.
She united
with the Methodist church in Gravity at the age of 15 and was a member of the
Methodist Church of Sharpsburg. She was
a devoted wife and mother, her home and family were her pride and joy.
Preceding
her in death were her husband, small son, parents, one brother, Charley Rascher and three sisters, Dora Rascher,
Maggie Morrgison and Mary Carriken.
Surviving to
cherish her memory are her son Paul and wife, three grandchildren, Pauline
Wilson of Gravity, Paul Edwin Jr. and Richard Lee at home, and one great
grandson, Randall Wilson, three sisters, Mrs. Lottie Chitty of Sharpsburg, Anna Rascher and Mrs. Chas. Welch of Gravity, two
brothers, Will of New Market, and Fred of Nodaway are left to mourn her
passing; also a number of nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her and loved her.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist
Church in Sharpsburg Monday, Aug. 30 conducted by Rev. John Kess of Yorktown with Rev. Howard DeVore assisting.

Sylvia Terry -
Mrs Charles Deaver died Friday at 9 p. m. at the Rosary
Hospital in Corning after an extended illness. Funeral services
were Monday at 2 p. m. at the Bender Funeral Home, Rev Cecil Simonton officiating.
Burial was in Lenox cemetery.
OBITUARY
Sylvia May Deaver, daughter of
Will and Ellen Terry, was born Nov. 1, 1892, at Gallatin, Mo., and passed away
July 30,
1954, at the age of 61
years, 9 months.
Most of her life was spent in Lenox. She was married to
Charles Deaver April 28, 1912. They were parents of
three
children.
Mrs Deaver leaves to mourn her death, her husband Chas., two sons, Marvin of Omaha and Gale of Santa Paula,
Calif., one
daughter, Luella Ranck of Corning,
four grandchildren, one great grandchild, four brothers, Bill Terry of Lenox, Jim in Montana, Sam and Lloyd Terry in
California, and one sister, Mrs Pearl Chandler of
Clearfield.
Mrs. Deaver was a member of
Christian church in Lenox. She was a
loving and devoted wife and mother and was loved by all who knew her.

Geo Garrett, resident of Gravity, but who had spent the past
two years with his brother in Kansas, passed away Friday
night.
Body was returned for funeral and burial at Gravity Tuesday July 20.

Chas Goodale, Mrs Russell Morey and Mrs Faye Emerson were called to
Diagonal by the serious illness and death of
their father, B W Goodale, 71, at noon Sunday, May 16.
Another daughter, Mrs L Nevill came from Estherville and Mrs P
Le Pera of Des Moines. Besides the four daughters and one son, his wife and mother
remain to cherish his memory.

many years was buried here at the Gravity cemetery Thursday. She had been living in Sioux City for the

Mrs. Harry
Crouse received a message Tuesday evening from Council Bluffs stating that her
sister, Mrs J Looney, 66, of Prescott, had died at 6:30.
Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters and one son; also six
brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral services were held Friday at Congregational
church in Cromwell with burial in Cromwell cemetery.

This
community [Gravity] was greatly saddened by the death of Hal Lyons Saturday
evening. He suffered a stroke Thursday afternoon and never recovered, and
passed away about 8:45 Saturday evening. Mr Lyons had
operated the drug store here for over 40 years. He was 69 years old. Funeral
services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Witmore Funeral Home in Bedford. Rev Peters conducted the services.

91, father of Clearfield Rural Carrier, Leroy Reeve, died Sunday, May 16 at his
home in Cromwell. He is survived by his wife, the former Nellie Kilgore and six
children. Funeral rites were held at Keating and Beemer Funeral Home Tuesday in
Creston. Burial in Cromwell cemetery.

of Promise City last Sunday at a Des Moines hospital.
Funeral and burial at Promise City Tuesday. He formerly lived at Gravity
where he worked in the railroad. He was the father of Mrs Goldie Smith, also a former resident here.

Mary -
Miss Mary Stimpson passed away at the Clarinda hospital Saturday
evening. Funeral services were in Shenandoah at 10
a m
Wednesday. Graveside services and burial at Gravity at 11:30 a m, Wednesday. She was well known in this community and lived here many years,
then going to Honolulu where she taught school for several years later making
her home in Shenandoah until her heart failed.

Rex M. -
Rex M. Stoaks was born April 29, 1914 near Lenox, la., and went to be with Jesus May 9, 1954, 9:18 p. m., at
the University Hospital at Iowa City at the age of 40 years and 10 days. He had
been ill 18 months.
Mr. Stoaks was married to Ruth L Hiles Feb. 16, 1936 at Burlington Junction, Mo. They have two sons, Fred Edward and
James Rex, now 7 and 4 years of age. He was a faithful husband and a loving
father, bringing up his family in the fear
and the
admonition of the Lord. When 11 years of
age he confessed Christ and was baptized in the Christian Church at Lenox under
the pastorate of Rev McCallon and was a regular attendant
of the Sunday School and Church until his marriage
when he moved to another community. Later he became a member of the Open Bible Church at Clarinda and
transferred to the Ft. Des Moines church.
While
working at the carpenter trade, in and near Clarinda he was in demand and known
for his dependability, honesty arid integrity. About 2 1/2
years ago Bro. and Sis. Stoaks felt the call
of God in their lives to go to Bible School. They went to
Des Moines
and enrolled in the Open Bible Institute. Bro Stoaks treasured the many happy hours of study and fellowship
connected with his training. During the time of his illness he remained steadfast to his
faith and was a real inspiration to
both the Bible
School and the Fort Des Moines church of the Open Bible.
He is
survived by his widow Ruth; his two sons; his parents, Mr and Mrs Fred Stoaks,
Clearfield and three brothers, Raymond of Ames; Lyle of Conway, and Cleo of
Lenox; a grandmother, Mrs Sara Stoaks and a host of relatives and friends. A twin brother, Max, is deceased.
Funeral
services were Wednesday morning at the Evan Lilly Funeral Home in Des Moines
and graveside service and burial in the Lenox cemetery.

Rex Stoaks, 41, died Sunday at 9:15 p. m., at the hospital at
Iowa City. His home was in Des Moines. He was a former resident of Lenox, Kent
and Clarinda. His brothers and parents
were with him at Iowa City.
Survivors
are his widow Ruth, and sons, Eddie, 8, and Jim, 4;

brothers, Raymond of Ames; Cleo and Lyle, of Lenox; his
parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stoaks of Clearfield, and his 93
year old grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Stoaks of Lenox.
Funeral
services were Wednesday at 10 a. m. in Des Moines,
with graveside services and burial here at 1:30 p.m.

Harrell
William Wilson son of Mr and Mrs Vern Wilson was born near Gravity, la., Nov. 19, 1933 and passed away at the
Clarinda
Municipal Hospital in Clarinda June 19, 1954. He was making his home in Red Oak
at the time of his death.
After
completing the eighth grade at school he remained at home to help with the farm
work until 1952. After his marriage he moved to Red Oak. He leaves to mourn his
passing his wife Patricia Wilson and a small son Robert Randall Wilson, his
father, mother and 4 sisters—Wilma at home; Edna Robertson of Owatoma, Minn.; Delores Hiatt of New Market; Erma Bolinger of Diagonal and a number of nieces and nephews and
a host of friends He was 20 years, 7 months of age. Burial was in Gravity
cemetery.
