OBITUARY
Mary
Elizabeth Brown, daughter of Isaac and Abbigal Richey,
was born September 12, 1878, in Van Buren County, la., and
passed away Wednesday morning, Aug. 24, 1955, at the home
of her daughter, Oma Kirby, in Lenox, la., after several
weeks
of serious illness. She was 76 years, 11 months, 12 days old.
She
was united in marriage to Otis M Brown Jan 19, 1898, and
to this union three daughters and four sons were born. She
united with the Presbyterian church at an early age, and was
an active member in the church and in later years in the United
Presbyterian church, throughout her life.
With
the exception of two years spent in Minnesota she lived all of her life in the Lenox
and Sharpsburg community.
Two
sons, Roy and Clyde, and a daughter, Daisy Baggstrom,
preceded her in death. She leaves her husband, Otis M Brown, a brother, Shan Richey, of
Sharpsburg; 2 sons, Charles of Sharpsburg and Marvin of Lenox; two daughters, Oma Kirby and Grace Selders of
Lenox; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and
friends.
Mrs Brown was a kind and loving wife and mother to the end of her life, and will be
greatly missed by all who .knew her. [Poem]

Joseph
Henry Cochran, son of Nancy and Alexander Cochran, was born in Carthage, Ill.,
Aug 28, 1863 and passed away at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 19 days. For
the past three years he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs Effie Black in Lenox. When he was 20 years old he came
to Lenox with his parents.
Surviving
are his wife Eleanor, 4 daughters, Mrs Ida Bennett, Mrs Effie Black and Mrs Ruth Beemer,
all of Lenox, and Mrs Florence McKelvey of Monroe, Mich.; 3 sons, Harry E Cochran of Wadsworth, Kan.; John Cochran of
Council Bluffs, and Glen T Cochran of Salem, Ore.; 9 grand children and 10
great giand children; a brother Harry

70 died Thursday A. M., at the Greenfield hospital. He had driven to the home
of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schroeder, at Fontanelle on Monday. He became ill Wednesday and was
hospitalized at Greenfield. He had been ill recently with asthma and a heart
condition.
Funeral
services were Saturday p. m., at the Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial
in the Fontanelle cemetery. He had lived in the Lenox vicinity for a
number of years and had been employed as a farmer by Frank Maharry of Lenox the past 12 years.
Survivors: 1 daughter,
Mrs. Walter Schroeder; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Elton Freeman 3 grandchildren,
all of Fontanelle. His son, Elton, preceded him in
death 3 years ago.

died Monday, Aug 22 at her home. She was born in Iowa and went to Nebraska,

She is
survived by a sister, Mrs Helen Giles Buckley of the home,
a brother, Harold L Giles of Hoquaim, Wash., an
adopted son, Capt Lowell Warren of the Air Force in Germany, and two nieces.
Funeral
services were Aug 24, at the Buckley-King Funeral home in Tacoma, the Rev Henry
G Dietz officiating. Cremation followed. Burial was in the family plot at
Lenox, Iowa.

James
Robert Gillespie was born at Summerfield, Kan, Dec 19, 1885, the only child of
Wm Thomas and Belle Gillespie. He lived at Summerfield until 1928 when he moved
to Clarinda vicinity to farm. In 1946 he retired and moved to Sharpsburg where
he passed away Thursday morning, Oct 13, 1955 at the age of 69 years, 9 months
and 26 days.
His
mother and father and 2 children, Elizabeth Belle and Roy Eugene, preceded him
in death. Surviving to mourn is his wife, Rose Alice, two sons, Clyde Raymond
of Tetonia, Idaho, and William Robert of Creston; one
daughter, Mrs Cleo Branson of Hayward, Calif.; 3 granddaughters
and 4 grandsons.
As a
young man he united with the United Presbyterian church at Summerfield, Kan. A kind and loving father and husband. He leaves a devoted family and host of
friends.

Frank Hargin, son of Noble and Jessie Hargin was born in Holt Twp., Ringgold County, and passed away at his home SW of
Clearfield July 26, 1955.

4, 1911 he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Darlington,
daughter of Mr and Mrs Will
Darlington of Clearfield. They always lived in the Clearfield vicinity. To this
union were born three sons: Wm., of Oregon; Arlo of
Omaha, and Harold of Cedar Rapids and five daughters, Mildred Knapp of St
Louis; Jessie Stanley and Hazel Sullivan of Omaha; Helen Watts of Winterset and
Lila Stephenson
of Huntington Beach,, Calif. All of whom were with the mother, survive.
He
also leaves 8 grandchildren, one brother, Ed Hargin of Conway and Mrs Mary Cooper of Prescott; a number
of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral
services were held at the Clearfield Methodist church

29 with Rev H Ball officiating. Burial was in Clearfield
cemetery.

J Lloyd Jeanes, son of
J E and Etta Bye Jeanes was born south of Clearfield, la., May 15, 1905, and died in Blockton,
la., Aug 27, 1955, age 50 years.
On
June 26, 1926 he was united in marriage to Alta Kobbe of
Blockton. To this union were born 4 children, Bobby Jeanes of
Redding; Dorothy Saville of Redding; Patricia and
Charles at home.
Mr Jeanes was an extensive farmer, dealer in cattle and
saddle
horses.
He was devoted to his home and a good neighbors.

his wife, Alta and the four children, are his father,

Lane, daughter of Samuel and Mary J. Barker Lane was born Oct 9, 1885 in Lucas
County, la., near Chariton, and passed away Sept 23,
1955 at her home in West Clearfield at the age of 69 years, 11 months, 14 days.
She came with her parents when she was 8 years old to Delphos, la., where she
lived until moving to Clearfield where
she has resided the past 25 years.
She
was a consistent member of the Christian church and as long as health permitted
was faithful in attendance at all of its services. She was a member of the
Woman's Fellowship and Home Dept.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Reuben
Lane
and 2 sisters, Sylvia Lane with whom she made her home and Mrs Clem (Dean) Ruby of Clearfield; a brother, Fred Lane of Benton; 3
nephews and 3 nieces, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral
services were held at 2:30 p m at Christian church, by minister, Rev Ron
Graham. Burial Clearfield cemetery.

Moore,
Vaughn Victor -
Vaughn
Victor (Vick) Moore Jr., 6 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn V. Moore, 713 Downer
PI., drowned Thursday afternoon in Lake Geneva, when he fell from a boat at a pier near
Fontana, Walworth county, Wisconsin.
Mrs.
Moore, her two daughters, Marilyn, 14, and Marjorie, 10, and her son, Vick had
been spending the summer at their cottage at Glenwood Springs, near Fontana.
Mr. Moore, president of the Northern Security Life Insurance Co., has been joining
them on weekends.
There
were no witnesses to the drowning. Vick was last seen playing in the boat at
the pier. It was no more than five or 10 minutes later that his sisters, who
were looking for him after missing him, found him in the water and carried him to
shore.
Police
and the water safety patrol were summoned and a resuscitator was applied in an effort
to revive the boy. The rescue work was carried on for two hours before he was
finally pronounced dead.
The
body was returned to Aurora last night.
Vaughn
Victor Moore Jr., was born in Aurora, July 18, 1949.
Besides
his parents, he is survived by his two sisters, Marilyn
Patricia
and Marjorie Irene; his paternal grandfather, John Murray Moore of Lenox, la., and several aunts and uncles.

services will be held from the Dieterie (Lake Street)

Cora Agnes McNatt Peitzmyer -
Cora
Agnes, daughter of Jackson and Mary Jane McNatt, was
born near Sidney, la Nov 23 1864 and entered into eternal rest July 27, 1955 at
her home m East Clearfield at age of 90 years, 8 months, 4 days. She grew to
womanhood near Sidney and in March, 1884 was
married to Otto Peitsmyer, a Free Methodist minister They
located near Sidney and he continued his ministry.
To
this union were born six children: Nina and Loyde died in early childhood and John in 1951 at age of 64. Surviving are Vertie Kirkwood, of Tacoma,
Wash., Jesse Peitsmyer, Omaha'and Nellie Speer of Clearfield.
The
family later moved to St Clair County, Mo., where the husband and father passed away in 1927
at Osceola, Mo. Mrs Peitsmyer moved to Iowa that year to be near her children.
In October,
1943 she was married to Roe Newton of Blockton
where they lived two years. The past ten years they have resided
in Clearfield.
Mrs Newton was a member of the Free Methodist church and of the WSCS of Clearfield
Methodist church. She lived a Christian life in her home and in association
with her friends. She was known for her charity and kindness to all.
Surviving
besides the husband, one son and two daughters are 8 grandchildren, 21 great
grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, nieces
and nephews and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral
services were held at J R Crew Funeral Home Saturday,

Ann, baby daughter of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Neff of Kansas City died Tuesday morning at 1 o'clock. The mother is
the former Judy Hufnagel. The baby was 3 weeks old and had been in an
incubator all of her life. She was a great granddaughter of Ida Henderson.

Miss
Paisley taught school in Crawfordsville and Lenox and was a short term teacher
for three years in Egypt. She served for 17 years in the office of Knoxville college at Knoxville, Tenn.

Mrs Anna Thorton Paschal 83, died at 8:30 p m Friday,
just a day after she and her husband had come to Clearfield from Portland,
Ore., to make their home. They were former residents of Clearfield but had
lived in Oregon for about 40 years. Mrs Paschal died
at the home of an old friend, Mary Young, where they were staying until
they could make
arrangements to build a home there.

the Creston hospital Friday after a long illness. Funeral services were

OBITUARY
Claude
Francis Peltier, son of Charles M. and Ellen Doubet Peltier, was born Oct 14,
1878 at Clearfield, Ia. and died Aug. 10, 1955 in the Greater Community Hospital, Creston,
Iowa at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 5 days.
He grew to
young manhood in Taylor County and received his schooling at Platte No. 7
graduating from Clearfield high school with the Class of 1898. He taught several terms in Platte and Grant
townships and farmed with his father.
On
June 10, 1903 he and Maud Sargent were united in
marriage
at Clearfield. To this union were born four children, a son and 3
daughters.
Mr Peltier engaged in farming all of his life except one
year as a clothier in Clearfield.
He was
a member of the United Presbyterian church, first uniting with the Church of Ft
Morgan, Colo., later transferring his membership to the church at Lenox, and
then to the Clearfield
church where he served as Sabbath School teacher and was
an Elder for many years.
He was
always interested in civic and community affairs and enjoyed sports and
visiting with his neighbors and friends.
He was
preceded in death by his son, Kenneth, his parents,

brother and 4 sisters. He leaves his widow, Maude, and
daughters and their families, Catherine and Carroll Wainwright, sons Kenneth [?]
and Francis of Syracuse, Kan., and their daughter and family, Barbara and Verlyn Ginther and children
Kathleen and Carroll
of
Hill City, Kan.; Virginia and Robert Lundsberg and sons
John, Richard and Kelton of Skokie, Ill.; and Barbara
and Jack Palmer and children Claudia, Kathryn and Marion of Bethany, Mo.
Besides the above he will be missed by many other relatives, friends and
neighbors.

Lenox Friday at 8 a. m. The doctor stated he had died early Friday morning. His

OBITUARY
Theo J
Reimer, second son of Fredrick and Elizabeth Reimer, was born Dec 26, 1388 at
Traer, la., and passed away in Lenox where he attended
school and grew to manhood.
January
24, 1912 he was united in marriage to Grace Hufnagel of
Lenox. To this union were born seven children, one of whom died in infancy. His
wife died in 1936.
Six
surviving children include Dale of Davenport; Mrs Margaret
Barnhill
of Tingley; Mrs Murl Leonard of Corning; Robert of Des Moines; Gene of
Lenox, and Phillip of Altoona. He had ten grandsons and
seven granddaughters. Also surviving are one sister, Antonia Reimer of Des
Moines and a brother Thomas of Maryville.

Elmer
Swanson, son of Benjamin and Anna Swanson, was born April 19, 1876 at Rio, Ill.,
and passed away at his farm home southwest of Sharpsburg Friday, Sept 23. He
died at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 4 days. He was preceded in death by
his mother, father, brothers and sister.
When
a small child his parents moved from Rio, Ill., to a farm west of Bedford. A few years after coming to Iowa the family moved to a farm in the Sharpsburg
community where he had made his home ever since.
He was
baptized as a boy in Illinois and later he became a charter member of the
Presbyterian church of Sharpsburg.
He
leaves to mourn his passing a sister, Mrs. Ida Hoops of Cherokee, Ia., 3
nieces, Mrs. Mabel Knott and Mrs. Myrna Buck of Sharpsburg and Mrs. Gladys
Elder of Lenox, one nephew, Ray Hoops of Marshalltown, Ia. and many great
nieces and nephews and friends.
Services
were held from the Presbyterian Church. Burial in Gravity cemetery.

services were held Sunday the 14th at the Slade Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, for Mrs Jessie Williams, 59, daughter of the late Mr. and

grew to womanhood
in this vicinity. She was married to William Williams and to this union one son
Dick was born. They have made their home in Leon. She was preceded in death by
her husband Wm in 1952, her parents, three sisters Edith
Clayton, Emma Bailey and Berdice Pointer. Surviving are
her son and the 3 grandchildren of Haineston, la., four brothers, Charles of Clearfield, John of Akron,
O., Arthur
of
Diagonal and Elmer in Colo., four sisters, Ethel Porter, Des Moines, Myrtle
Palmer of Akron O., Marie Reed of Norwalk, Iowa, and Nellie Lawhead of Leon. Interment was in Leon. From Clearfield attending
the last rites were Chas Clayton, Chas Bailey, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stutesman, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bailey.

David
Leroy, son of H T and Lola Williams Yaw was born in
Diagonal, la., March 10, 1893 and departed this life Aug 21, 1955
at his home in East Clearfield at the age of 62 years, 5 months and 11 days. He
attended the Diagonal school and also grew to manhood there.
On
April 4, 1914 he was united in marriage in Creston to Miss Nora Livingston and
their 41 years of married life were lived in Clearfield.
Mr Yaw took pride in his work as a mason and did his task well.
He was
compelled, due to illness to retire some time ago from his
work but he remained interested in it and enjoyed visiting with
his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving
is his wife, Nora; one sister, Mrs Delbert Burch and brother-in-law,
D Burch of Creston; one nephew, Garnet Burch and family of Davenport; other
relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday at the Crew Funeral home. Minister Rev Harold Ball. Interment
was in Clearfield cemetery. Casket bearers: A L Willey,
Ray Speer, Carroll Horton, Verel Johnston. Ross
Hamilton, John Duey.
