Baggstrom, Daisy Mae Brown Boyer -

Mrs. Daisy Baggstrom of Los Angeles, Calif., passed away at

8:45 a.m., Wednesday morning.  Funeral services will be in

California, Saturday afternoon with burial there. Survivors in

the immediate family are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. M.

Brown; two sisters, Mrs. Ted Selders and Mrs. Lawrence Kirby;

two brothers, Charley and Marvin Brown.

Baggstrom, Daisy Mae Brown Boyer  -

Daisy Mae Brown Baggstrom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Brown of Lenox, was born August 10, 1908 at Sharpsburg and departed this life June 24, 1953, at a hospital in Los Angeles, Calif., having reached the age of 44 years, 10 months and 14 days.

 

Daisy united with the Presbyterian church February 27, 1921,

at Sharpsburg, and later joined the Lutheran Bethel church in Los Angeles where she made her home.

 

Nov. 13, 1922, she was united in marriage to Don Boyer at

Glenwood, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born, Patricia

Lee and Donna Mae.

 

She was later married to Carl O. Baggstrom at Omaha. They were parents of two children, Judy and Johnnie Erickson.

 

Daisy Mae spent her girlhood in Taylor county and her married life in Omaha and Glenwood until she moved to California where she passed away. She was a kind and loving mother and a friend to

everyone.

 

She leaves her husband, and children, Mrs. Merrill Moore and

Mrs. Kenneth Eckler and one granddaughter, Bethany Lund

of Omaha, Johnnie and Judy at home; her parents, Mr. and

Mrs. O. M. Brown of Lenox, two brothers, Charlie O. Brown

of Sharpsburg, Marvin Brown of Lenox; two sisters Mrs. Oma Kirby of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Grace Selders of Lenox, besides a host of relatives and friends.

 

Funeral services were June 27, 1953, at Lutheran Bethel church in Los Angeles with burial in Englewood cemetery.  Those from here who attended were Mrs. Grace Selders and daughter, Mrs. Don Trost and son Craig of Kent, another sister, Mrs. Oma Kirby and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Kirby of Denver, Colorado.

Bates, Lyman W. -

Lyman W. Bates, 65, died June 27, 1953, at Lawrence Memorial

hospital Lawrence, Kansas. He was born at Davis City, Iowa

and went to Lawrence in 1935.   He was a sheet metal worker

and was employed at Pinchards and Foltz Sheet metal shop.

 

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Kirby of Lawrence. andson

Clifford of Prairie Village,  Kansas, 2 grand children Mary

B. Kirby and Michael Bates, 2 sisters. Wilma Woods of Mission Hill, S. D. and Esther Schildhauer, Hillsboro. Oregon: also 2 brothers. Walter of Chicago, Ill. and Frank of Canada.

 

His wife Lucy preceded him in death about 3 years ago. Services were held at 10 a.m.. June 30, at Ramsey Funeral Home in Lawrence with Rev. Albert Bramble in charge. Burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence.

 

These attending the services from a distance included Mrs.

Carl Schildhauer of Hillsboro, Oregon: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wilcox,

Mission Hill. S. D.. Walter Bates of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Orval Steadman of Corning, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Swartz and Mrs. Winfield Ramsey and Edwin of Lenox.

 

Mr. Bates and his family lived on a farm in this community a number of years ago.

Beadel, Ida Mae Ingraham -

Mrs. Ida Beadel, 95, oldest resident of Lenox, died Saturday,

July 4, at 9:30 p.m., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dick Dunbar. Mrs. Beadel lost her eyesight a few years ago but otherwise had been in good health until recent weeks.

 

Funeral services were Monday afternoon at the Bender Funeral

home, conducted by the Rev. Harold Butts. Burial was in Blue Grove cemetery southwest of Lenox.

Obituary

Ida Mae Ingraham, daughter of Joshua and Sarah Ann Ingraham,

was born near the little village of Half Day, Lake County, Ill., Dec. 8, 1857.   She passed away at the home of her foster daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Dunbar at Lenox, Iowa, July 4, 1953 at

the age of 95 years, 6 months 26 days.

 

After the death of both her parents, she moved to Avon, Ill. where she was cared for by relatives. When a young girl, she came to Iowa to live with her sister, Dolly Henry and attend school.  When she was a child, she was baptized in the Methodist church at Avon. In later years she became a member of the Lenox church.

 

Jan. 2, 1879, she was married to Walter M. Beadel, who died

five years ago. They lived on a farm near Lenox in the first years of their married life; later moved to Lenox, then to Omaha and back to Lenox.  The two children of the couple died in infancy.

 

She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Mrs. E. C. Dunbar and husband, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a great many friends.

Bosworth, Mary Ball -

Friends here have received word of the death of Mrs. Mary Ball Bosworth, former resident of Lenox, who had been living in San, Diego, Calif. Mrs. Bosworth died July 15, just 18 days after the death of her sister, Murl Ball Cochrun of South Gate, Calif.

 

Funeral services were July 17, with burial In Glen Abbey Memorial

Park, Chula Vista, Calif.

 

Mrs. Bosworth attended school here and graduated from high school with the class of '98.  She worked in the Post Office for several years. She had been ill  for several months before her death.

 

Former residents of Lenox who attended the funeral included League Edmunds, Geo. Dockstater, Alta Paschal, John and Sadie Wherry, Daisy Sparks, Will and Norma Myers.

Bosworth, Mary Ball -

Mary Ball Bosworth, daughter of, Richard L. and Ona Dixon

Ball passed from this life July 15, 1953, at the age of 73 years

and 3 months and passed away not knowing that her sister,

Murle Ball Cochrun had preceded her in death just 18 days

before.

She was born in Ohio, came to Lenox in her early life with her parents, where she grew to womanhood, graduating from Lenox  High School with the class of 1898. She came to Los Angeles in 1915 and met and married F. E. Bosworth in 1923.

 

They lived on a ranch in the Imperial Valley until his death in 1927, after which she lived with Mr. Bosworth’s sister, Mrs. Etta Cooley in San Diego, Cal.

 

She leaves to mourn her passing two brothers, Otis of Huntington

Park and Harley of San Jancinto, Calif., and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Etta Cooley of San Diego, Calif.

 

Memorial services were held at the Clinker Mortuary in South Gate with interment in Chula Vista, Calif.

Brott, Charles Wesley -

Charles Wesley Brott, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Brott

of Clearfield died Sunday at the Hospital in Creston. Funeral

services were held Monday, May 11 at the J. R. Crew Funeral

Home at 2 p. m. The Rev. C E McPherson brought words of

comfort to the bereaved. Burial was in Clearfield cemetery.

Brown, Jacob Franklin –

Jacob Franklin Brown, son of Benjamin Frank and Sarah Lee Brown, born May 22, 1872, in Madison County, near Peru, la., passed away May 6, 1953, at his home in Sharpsburg.

 

April 12,1893 Jacob Brown was united in marriage to Myrtle

Catherine Ginn. To this union 7 children were born. Lizzie C. Davis, the eldest, preceded him in death.  In June, 1893, Mr and Mrs.

Brown were baptized and united with the Seventh Day Adventist

Church and they have remained faithful to the belief.

 

Mr. Brown came to Taylor County with his father and mother at the age of seven. He is the first of the five children to pass away.

 

He is survived by his wife and six children: Jessie B. Samples,

Burryn Spring, Mich.; Judson N. Brown, Scottsbluff, Neb.; Benjamin F. Brown, Sandoval, N. M.; Ransom J. Brown, Lincoln, Neb.; Carnott T. Brown, Glenwood, Wash.; Sarah C. Nelson Clear Lake, Wisc.; their

companions, 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, his

sisters and brothers, his eldest sister Dora Davis, Boulder, Col.;

Martin E. Brown, Milton, Ore.; Lizzie Philpott, Freewater, Ore.;

Edson E. Brown, Blanche, Colo.; and a host of friends.

 

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p. m. in the Presbyterian Church at Sharpsburg.  Services were conducted by Elder Stanley Pederson assisted by Rev. Donald Watkins and Rev. E. John Kess.

Burial was on the family lot beside his father and mother in Lenox cemetery.

Caven, Alfred Eugene -

Funeral services for A. E. Caven, 80, who died Sunday at Topeka, Kan., were Wednesday at the Methodist church with the Rev. Harold Butts officiating. Burial was in Lenox cemetery.

OBITUARY

Alfred Eugene Caven, son of Thomas and Malissa Caven, was born October 27, 1873 near New Sharon, in Mahaska County, Iowa, and passed this life May 31, 1953.

 

March the 16, 1898 he was united in marriage with Miss Lula Van Houten at Prescott, Iowa.  They made their home on a farm near Prescott, and later moved to a farm south of Lenox where they lived until Mrs. Caven's death Sept. 26,1946.

 

After this Mr. Caven retired making his home Excelsior Springs, Mo., and later at Topeka, Kan. Mr. Caven became a member of the Methodist Church at an early age and has continued in the faith. He was active in community affairs as well as those of the church.

 

Surviving are two sons, Arthur, of Conway and Verne, of Lenox; one brother Harry of Corning; two sisters: Miss Stella Caven, of Corning and Mrs. Carrie Brown, of Prescott; two granddaughters and two great granddaughters; and his many friends and acquaintances of

the home community.

Cochrun, Murle Ball -

Friends here received word this week of the death on Thursday, June 25, of Mrs. Tom Cochrun, of Gateway, Calif., the former Murie Ball of Lenox.  Her father had a grocery store in the building which now houses the Sluss and Robbins Clinic.

 

Mrs. Cochran was buried in California. Survivors include her husband; a sister, Mary; and two brothers, Ott and Harley

Cochrun, Mule Ball -

Murle Ball Cochrun, fourth child of Richard L. Ball and Ona Dickson Ball was born June 4, 1890 in Lenox, Iowa.  She passed from this life June 25, 1953 at the age of 63 years and 21 days at her home in

South Gate, Calif.

 

Her childhood and young woman hood was spent in Lenox and she was a graduate of Lenox High school with the class of 1911.  Soon after graduation she spent some years in Des Moines later joining her father, brothers and sister in Los Angeles, Calif.

 

She was married to Thomas R. Cochrun in the year 1930 and

they lived in the Cochrun family home in Lakeview, Oregon.

In 1937 she and her husband moved to South Gate where they have since made their home.

 

She was preceded in death by her mother and father and leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, two brothers, Otis of Huntington Park, Harley of San Jancinto and a sister, Mary of South Gate.

 

Memorial services were held at Clinker Mortuary in South Gate with interment in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in the Masonic section she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She will be greatly missed, as she was a devoted wife and her friends were legion.

Her main desire in life was to help others.

Duncan, Ralph L. -

Ralph L. Duncan, 70, a resident of Creston, died Thursday, June 4, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Inez Wiand in Lenox. Death followed a long illness.

 

Funeral services were Saturday, June 6, at the Coens funeral

home in Creston with burial in the Mt. Ayr cemetery. Ralph L. Duncan was born at Clearfield, Aug 14, 1882, the son of Jonathon and Rachel Duncan.

 

He was married at Redding June 20, 1914, to Iva Blunch, who died Jan. 18, 1951. They moved from Redding to Creston in 1927.

 

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wiand of Lenox and Mrs.

Veneta Hall of Leon, four grand children and one great grandchild.

Mr. Duncan was a former member of the Presbyterian church.

Hanson, Rhoda -

Rev. Walter Philip Hanson of Cedar Rapids has written to Lenox friends of the death of his wife Rhoda Hanson, June 11 after a lingering illness. He was pastor of the Presbyterian church here for several years and the family has pleasant memories of Lenox.

Hinshaw, Mary Alverda Franklin “Verda

Funeral services were Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Bender Funeral

Home for Mrs. Verda Hinshaw, 75, who died at the home of her

son, Ronald, southeast of Lenox.  Rev. C. W. Rissinger officiated

 and burial was in the Lenox cemetery.

 

Mary Alverda Franklin, daughter of W. S. and Sarah Franklin,

was born Nov. 2, 1877 in Taylor County, near Blockton, la., and

passed away May 23, 1953, at passed away May 23, 1953, at the

age of 75 years, 6 months and 21 days, at the home of her son,

Ronald, after suffering a heart attack.

 

On Jan. 25, 1910 she was united in marriage to Bert Hinshaw.

To this union two sons were born.  In early womanhood she associated herself with the Christian Church at Blockton, Iowa later transferring her membership to the Lenox Christian Church.

 

She was born and raised on a farm northwest of Blockton and

lived there until she was married.  She is survived by her two

sons, Loren, of Clearfield, la., and Ronald of Lenox, la., their

wives, three grandsons and three granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Hinshaw, who died

Feb. 3, 1953, and one grandson.  She is the last of her family,

which consisted of seven sisters and brothers, all of whom have

departed.this life.

 

She was a loving wife and mother, and will be greatly missed

by those who knew her and loved her.

Manroe, Wanda Christine

Wanda Christine, 17 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Manroe of Kansas City, died Friday night, May 15. She was the only child of her parents and a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Manroe of Lenox.  Funeral services were Monday with burial in Kansas City. Relatives from here who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Manroe, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Manroe.

Moore, Carrie Elvera Anderson -

Mrs. Carrie Moore, 74, died at her home here Saturday morning

at 10:15. She had undergone surgery recently, but had seemed to be recovering and her death came as a shock to family and friends. Her daughter, Mrs. Freda Pierce of Vancouver, Wash., has been here helping to care for her and her sons had been recent visitors.

 

Jack Moore was here last week, returned to California and was making his regular trip to Japan as trans - Pacific navigator at the time of his mother's death. He was notified by telephone, but will be unable to arrive in Lenox for the funeral.

 

Clarke had left his St. Louis home for a Shriner’s convention in New York.  Vaughn and family of Aurora, Ill., came for a visit Friday and Raymond of Cedar Rapids came Saturday. His family arrived

Wednesday.

 

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at the

Bender funeral home with interment in Lenox cemetery. The Rev. E. J. Strong of Creston conducted the service.

 

Mrs. Moore has been a victim of arthritis and unable of recent years to get about much but her mind remained active and she was busy with home work or hobbies. She had received quite a little publicity for her list of over 400 names of people in 15 states to whom she

sent cards and Bible verses.  She occasionally wrote a card or letter to the Time Table with news, or clippings and her comments

were apt and timely.

 

The following obituary was written in her own hand and dated in April 1946:  Carrie  Elvera Anderson, daughter of N. A. and Lovesa

Blacklund Anderson, was born in Downs, McLean County, Ill.

April 20, 1879.

 

In 1889 the family moved to Weldon, DeWitt County, Illinois.

In October, 1894, the family took up their residence at Lenox,

Iowa. Her father was a dealer in shoes and was known as the "Swede Shoe Man." He passed away in Lenox August 17, 1914.

 

Mrs. Moore was a graduate of the Lenox high school with the class of 1896. She then taught in the rural schools near Lenox for a period of 4 years.

 

March 21, 1900, she  was united in marriage with J. M. (commonly

known as 'Budd') Moore.  To this union 6 children were born: Clark B. of St. Louis, Mo.; Ray T. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Vaughn V. of Aurora, Ill.; Freda Moore Pierce, Vancouver, Wash; and Jack Moore of Hollywood, Calif. Una Berdiece died at the age,pf 13 months in 1918.

 

There are 14 grandchildren and 3 great children. Budd and Carrie established a home 1 and three fourths miles southwest of Lenox in 1900 and all the children were born at this farm home. They lived there at their country home for 34 years, moving into Lenox in 1934.

 

Besides their 5 children  and husband who survive, she leaves

one sister, Mrs. Emma Johnson of Soap Lake, Wash., and a

brother, Edw. C. Anderson of Alburnett, Iowa, to mourn her

passing but they sorrow not as those who have no hope. Her chief delight since she was saved at the age of 15 and later in 1909 received the baptism of the spirit, was to study the Bible.  She had worn out 4 Bibles because of continued usage. She was a member, of the church of the Nazarene.

 

Her brothers, Chas. A., Elmer and Algort. preceded her in death; also two sisters, Huldah Larson and Nettie Fogle. She and her husband observed their Golden wedding anniversary March 21, 1950.

Oxenreider, Viola May Losoler -

Viola May Oxenreider, 72, died at the home of her daughter,

Mrs. H. Weeda in Clearfield at 6:30 Monday morning. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Losoler of Kent, Iowa. She came to live with her daughter about 2 years ago and has been a semi invalid since.

 

She is survived by two sons, C. E. and Cyril Oxenreider of Creston, two daughters, Mrs. Albert Paisley of Detroit, Mich.  and Mrs. H. Weeda of Clearfield.

 

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Tingley

with burial in the Tingley cemetery.  The body was at the J.

R. Crew funeral home until the day of service.

Parslow, Iva Ruth Morey -

Iva Ruth Morey, daughter of Wilson and Margaret A. Huff Morey was born near Clearfield, la., on Jan. 27, 1879 and spent her entire life in and near Clearfield.

As a young woman she taught in the rural schools of Ringgold

County until she was united in marriage on March 4, 1908 to

Charles B. Parslow.  To this union one son was born, who died in infancy.

 

She united with the Baptist church when a small child but later transferred her membership to the Methodist Church of which she was an active member until failing health confined her to her home.

 

She departed this life July 22, 1953 at her home at the age of

74 years, 5 months and 23 days.   She was preceded in death by

her husband, who passed on in November, 1944. Also by 5 brothers

and 3 sisters.  To cherish her memory is one brother, Clyde Morey of Stunner, Wash., and a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

 

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. E. McPherson at the J. R. Crew Funeral Home. Burial was in Clearfield cemetery.

Ross, Lloyd –

Lloyd Ross, 50, died at 6:30 nm Wednesday, July 22, of a heart attack. He is survived by 5 sisters: Mrs. Belle Weichert of Lenox, three sisters living in Missouri and one in Nebraska; and one brother, James Ross of Bedford.  Mr. .Ross was known as Blonde

and was an expert in sharpening tools.  He lived in the Hufnagel

apartments. No funeral arrangements had been made at  press time.

Ross, Lloyd –

Funeral services were held Friday at 1 p. m. at Bender .Funeral home for Lloyd (Blondie) Ross, 59, who died of a heart attack Wednesday, July 22.

 

 Rev. Charles Hagee of Stanberry officiated, and burial was

at New Friendship cemetery near Gentry, Mo.

 

Mr. Ross was born at Gentry, Mo., but had spent most of his life .in Lenox. He was of good moral character and made many friends.

Survivors include 5 sisters, Mrs. Belle Welchert, Lenox; Barbara Ross, Gentry; Mildred Seevers, Stanberry; Mrs. Bernard Martin, Alden, Mo.; Mrs. Mary Hern, Auburn, Nebr.; and one brother, James Ross of Bedford.

 

Ten cars from here went, for rites at New Friendship where

Legionaires had charge of the service. Those who acted as color-

guards were Karl Hettinger, Bob Reynolds, Lyle John and

Royal Rusco in charge of flag ceremonies were Claude Reynolds,

Geo. Davidson, Norris Bunn; composing the firing squad were Ernest Hufnagel, Clifford Nook, Geo. Gray, Bob Manroe, Don Black, Don Keast, Duane Huber, Winston Tyler, with Dick Gray as Sergeant.

Shepherd, Grat -

Miss Grat Shepherd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Shepherd

was born in Gainesville, Ohio 82 years ago. She came with her parents to Iowa when quite young, the major portion of her

life was spent in Clearfield vicinity, until sickness made it

necessary she go to the nursing home in Mt. Ayr where death

came Thursday morning. She was a primary teacher in the

Clearfield school for many years and also a member of the M. L.

C. Club. Funeral rites were conducted at the United Presbyterian

church, Saturday 2 p.m. by Rev. Pleon. Interment was in

Clearfield cemetery.

Mrs. L. B. Anderson and Earl Smith received word Wednesday

that their brother, Ross Smith of Whittier, Calif., had passed

away. Death was due to heart trouble.

Fred Spare, formerly of Creston, one of the passengers of the plane that crashed at Wake Island was a hall brother of Mrs. Reldon Beadel.  His wife Ann and small son Charles 6, were with him

Frederick F. Spare, born Jan. 20, 1910, passed away at Guam,

M. L, July 11, 1953, at age of 43 years, 5 months and 19 days.

Funeral services were held July 29 at Holy Rosary Church at

Denver, Colo. Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Golden, Colo.

 

He is survived by his mother and stepfather Mr. and Mrs. P.

A. Repplinger of Sun Valley, Calif. Two sisters, Mrs. John

Matthew Sun Valley, and Mrs. Raymond Engle of Santa Monica, Calif.; 1 brother Robert F. Spare of Afton, la.; also two half sisters, Mrs. Merrill Cornelison of Afton and Mrs. Reldon Beadel of Lenox.

Summer, John F. -

Mr. John F. Summers of Chicago, formerly of Malvern, husband

of Mrs. Minnie Potts Summers, formerly of Lenox, passed away at 2 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the Osteopafhic hospital Chicago.

 

Funeral services were Friday, May 29, at the Donellan Funeral

parlors in Chicago and interment was in Memorial park in

Skokie, Ill., a Chicago suburb.

 

Survivors include his widow, a son, Willard of Chicago, the

daughter-in-law, Lucille, and two grandchildren Marjory and two grandchildren Marjory Joyce and Willard Leslie Jr.

 

The deceased was a graduate of Iowa State college, member

of Phi Kappa Psi and of the Chicago Farmers' Club. Since going to Chicago he had developed the Inland Trading Co., wholesale processors of fresh fruits. He had plants in Indiana and Illinois and orchards in Michigan.

Swanson, Amos Garfield -

Amos Swanson, 72, bachelor farmer living near Sharpsburg

died at his home Sunday. Born in Illinois, he came here with

his parents when two years of age and resided on the same

farm theremainder of his life, Survivors include one brother,

Elmer of the home, a sister, Mrs. Ida Hoops of Cherokee, Iowa.

Funeral services were Wednesday at the Presbyterian

church at Sharpsburg. Burial was in Gravity cemetery.

Swanson, Amos Garfield -

Amos Garfield Swanson, the youngest son of Benjamin and Anna Swanson was born Nov. 2, 1880 at Rio, Illinois and passed away at his farm home south west of Sharpsburg, Iowa, on Sunday, June 21, 1953, at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 19 days.  He was preceded in death by his mother, father and oldest sister, Carrie.

 

When he was a small child his parents moved from Rio Illinois to a farm west of Bedford, Iowa. Since then his home has always been in Taylor County. A few years after coming to Iowa the family moved

to a farm in the Sharpsburg community and the family home has been in this community since.

 

He was baptized as a boy in Illinois and in1895 became a charter member of the Presbyterian church of Sharpsburg.  Amos has always been a willing worker, a good neighbor always ready to help where ever he could do good. He served on the school board of the Sharpsburg Independent District for 24 years, resigning just the day before hid death. For many years he was vice president of the State Savings Bank and secretary treasurer of the telephone company.

 

He leaves to mourn his passing one brother, Elmer, of the home; one sister Mrs. Ida Hoops of Cherokee, Iowa; 3 nieces- Mrs. Mabel Knott and Mrs. Myrna Bush of Sharpsburg, and Mrs. Gladys Elder of Lenox;

one nephew Ray Hoops of Marshalltown, Iowa; several great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

 

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church of Sharpsburg with the Rev. Donald Watkins officiating assisted by Rev. John Kess. Burial was in the Gravity Cemetery.

Swigart, Grant –

Grant Swigart, 87, father of Mrs. Roy Archibald, died at 2:30 p.m. July 12, at his home in Tingley.  Funeral services were at Tingley Wednesday with burial there.  Surviving are his wife and seven children.

Wright, Mrs. Forest R. -

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Saunders, Mrs. Earl Douglas and Donald

Saunders went to Des Moines to attend the funeral services for

Mrs. Forest R. Wright, 64, of 3618 Thirty-Sixth street, which

was held Thursday afternoon, July 2, at the West Grand Funeral

home with burial in Highland Memory Gardens cemetery.

Mrs. Wright, a native of Adams county, died of a heart ailment June 29 at her home.  She had lived in Des Moines 31 years and was a member of the University Christian church, Iowa Women's Philatellic Society and Drove 25 of the Does.

 

Surviving are her husband, a linotype operator for the Register

and Tribune; a sister, Mrs. William Crow of Prescott; and a brother, Charles Saunders of Lenox.

Young, Nora L. Williams -

Nora L. Williams, daughter of Lindley G. and Alice M. Williams

was born in Adams county near Prescott, Iowa, June 18, 1897.

She passed away at her home in Creston, Iowa, June 16, 1953,

just two days before her 56th birthday. Although she had been in poor health for some time, her passing was sudden and quite unexpected. Her entire life was spent in Adams and surrounding counties.

 

September 6, 1917 at Corning, Iowa, she was united in marriage

to William E. Young. Two daughters were born to them: Mrs. Erma Shaffer of Conway and Mrs. Margaret Miller of Fairfield, Iowa.

 

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, two daughters,

two sons-in-law Clyde Shaffer and Harold Miller, four grandchildren

Allan Lee Miller, Larry, Gary and Jean Ann Shaffer, a nephew Glen Orlo Williams of Los Angeles, California, whom she raised. Three sisters, Lillie Rowles of Creston, Iowa, Etta Lewis, Thayer, Iowa, Nellie Lewis of Lenox, Iowa, Four brothers Elmer and Everette Williams of Corning, Bill of Galesburg,. Illinois, Forrest of Zion,

Illinois, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers Robert, Melvin, Murray and Ralph Williams and one grandson, Sidney Shaffer.

 

Her life ambition was doing things for her family and her

grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. She loved all children

and helped her brother Bill raise his family after his wife's death, she was truly a good neighbor, always kind and ready to help anyone in need. Our family circle is now broken and life will never be the same without her, but she will live on in blessed memory.

Services were held June 20 at the Arnold Funeral Home in

Lenox, at 2 p.m. with Rev. C. E. McPherson officiating. Burial

was in Clearfield cemetery.
