Bert Adams, formerly of Lenox, died at his home in Des Moines Sunday. Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Tuesday in Des Moines with burial at 2:30 p. m. in the Lenox cemetery.
A barber at Lenox and in Des Moines, he is survived by his
wife, the former Bertha Kinser of Lenox and two children.

Relatives in Lenox have received word of the death of Mrs Jessie Bassett, 65, of Brea, Calif., a Lenox resident until 1942. She died Saturday at 2:30 p. m. after a lingering illness. Services and burial were in California.
Survivors: her husband, Roy; 1 son, Harland, and 2 grandchildren
also of Brea; 1 brother, Harry Kreiger and a brother-in-law, Orval Bassett, both of Lenox.

Bender, Perry Martin -
Perry Martin, son of Gottlieb and Fredericka Dreitzel Bender, was born in Grant Township, Ringgold County, la., Nov. 16, 1873 and entered into rest Aug. 13, 1954, aged 80 years, 8 months and 27 days.
He received his education, and grew to manhood near the place
of his birth. He chose farming as his occupation, which he followed
as long as his health permitted.
On April 12, 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Grace L
Van Winkle at the parental home neap Maloyi la They established their home 3 miles NW of Maloy where they have lived until the present time. To this union were born two daughters, Reva Morey who passed away July 18, 1951 and Mrs Maye. Matthews living NW
of Clearfield.
Mr Bender was industrious in all of his activities and at all times interested in the affairs of the community. The welfare of his family and loved ones came before all others. He was both a devoted husband and loving father.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers:
William,. Richard .and Thomas Bender, plus two sisters, Mrs
Cora Wilson and Mrs Dora Arlo, two half brothers, Albert and John
Gordon.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Grace, and daughter Mrs Maye Mathews, 5 grandchildren Kenneth and Carroll Mathews and Mrs Roberta Maye Cook, Mrs Phyllis Goodale and Mrs Adra Baily, 6 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Frank and Clyde Bender of Creston, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.
Services held from the United Presbyterian Church, Clearfield, Rev. W. A. Howes officiaiting. Burial in Clearfield cemetery.

Mrs Dessa Carruthers, 66, died Sunday at 6 p. m. at the Thomas
Rest Home in Lenox after a lingering illness. She was born near Conway and had always lived in Taylor county. She had made her home in Lenox for many years. She had taught school for a number of years before her marriage.
Survivors: her husband, Frank, two sons, Gerald of Lenox and
Kenneth; 1 daughter, Mrs Margaret Williams of Lenox; 4
grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs Eva Smith, of Coon Rapids, Mrs
Grace Theum of San Antonio, Texas; 3 brothers, Mark and Blaine Robinson, both of Bedford and Frank of Gravity.
Funeral services were Wednesday at 9 a. m. at St Patrick's church in Lenox with the Rev Father Adam Reisz officiating. Burial was in Fairview cemetery at Lenox. The Rosary was said Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the Bender Funeral Home.

Peter Logan, son of Nelson S and Mary Ann Baumann Davenport
was born March 10, 1882 in Lincoln Twp., Ringgold County, la., and passed away Aug. 8, 1954 in Clearfield, la., at the home of his sister, Mrs. Hannah Hayes at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 28 days.
He attended school at Lincoln No. 2 and spent 66 years at the
place of his birth. In 1948 he came to Clearfield where he has
made his home with his sister.
He followed his chosen work farming as long as health permitted.
He enjoyed reading and being of a jovial disposition, liked to visit with friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Roy,
John and Oscar Davenport and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Condra
and Mrs. Eva Wolf.
Surviving besides the one sister, Mrs. Hannah Hayes, several
nephews and nieces, other relatives and a number of friends.
The funeral services were held at 2 p. m., Aug. 10 at the J R Crew Funeral home in Clearfield. Rev Harold Ball of the Methodist church officiated. Burial was in the Rising Sun cemetery, northwest of Diagonal.

Davis, Lloyd F. –
Lloyd F. Davis, 75, died Wednesday at 3 a.m. at his home here after suffering a heart attack Saturday. Survivors include his wife, Pearl; one son, Paul, of Lenox and one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Nelson of Indianapolis, Ind. All were with him at the time of his passing. He was the last of his family.
He was born in Adams county and had lived in the Lenox vicinity
all his life except when he lived in Idaho two years and in Des Moines about one year. He had owned and operated the Davis Elevator for approximately 30 years. His son, Paul, was associated in business with him.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian church here. He
and his wife had celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary
on December 26, 1953.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p. m., at the Bender Funeral
Home. Interment in the Lenox cemetery. The body is at the Bender Funeral Home here.

Davis, Lloyd F. –
Lloyd F. Davis, son of Lafayette (Lafe) and Margaret Davis, was born Feb 24, 1879 in Adams County, Iowa. He passed away at his home in Lenox, Iowa, Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1954 aged 74 years, 5 months and 7 days.
At an early age in youth he became a member of the Baptist church. Later he became a member of the Presbyterian church and served as an elder for many years.
On Dec. 25, 1901, he was united in marriage to Miss Pearl [ wman]. To this union two children were born, Paul and Margaret. Last December they were privileged to celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary.
For over 30 years he has owned and operated the Davis Elevator of Lenox in which his son Paul is also associated. Besides giving diligent attention to his business and loving devotion to his home, he has filled positions of public trust on the School Board, City Council and in his church.
Immediate relatives surviving are: his wife, Pearl; one son, Paul of Lenox, and daughter Mrs Margaret Nelson of Indianapolis, Ind.
Funeral services were Aug. 6 at the Bender Funeral Home,
conducted by Rev H D Butts. Interment was in Fairview cemetery.

Drorbaugh, Bobbie James -
Bobbie James Drorbaugh, second son of Audrey E and Harry
J. Drorbaugh, was born Nov. 11, 1945 at Creston, la. One brother,
Marvin Lee, preceded him in death in 1944. Jimmy lived his
short life of 8 years, 9 months in the vicinity of his birthplace.
When physically able he attended the Franklin public school in
Creston. Jimmy was a member of Troop 129, Den 1 of the Cub
Scouts of America in Creston. He attended the Christian Sunday School in Creston.
Last rites were conducted by Rev. Chas. Colyn and was laid
to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Annis Lucille Gourd was born in Adams County, la., March 14,
1923, daughter of Jess R and Emily Parrott Gourd, and passed
away on July 14, 1954 at the Greater Community Hospital in
Creston after a one year illness. She was 31 years, 3 months old.
She was married Oct. 22, 1942 to Ralph Hayes. To this union
were born four daughters, Patricia Ann, 9, Rosemary, 8, Emma
Jean, 6, and Susan Marie, 2.
She was a patient sufferer always hoping a miracle would save her to raise her little girls. Surviving in addition to her husband and four children are her mother, Mrs. Emily Gourd of Cumberland; four brothers, Robert and Russell of Corning: Ronald of Cumberland; Olin of Oakland, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Dixon of Corning;
Mrs. Neva Nelson of Prescott.
Mrs. Hayes lived at Council Bluffs before coming to Creston in 1950. Funeral services were held from St Malachy's Catholic Church, Father Leo Ortman officiating. Burial was in the Lenox cemetery. Pall bearers were Thomas Walsh. Ed Wallace, Cecil Wilson, Willie Pettinger, Wendel Nelson and William Bradley.

Mrs. Herman Hofer, 57, of Mountain Home, Ark., passed away
Thursday, Aug. 5. The body was brought to the Bender Funeral

OBITUARY
Sarah Pearl Hofer was born at Lenox, Iowa, Sept, 19, 1896, the
4th child of J. F. and Elizabeth Maharry. While a very young
girl she professed faith in Christ and was received into the United Presbyterian Church of Lenox.
On the 2nd of September, 1915 she was united in marriage to Herman Hofer. To this union one son, Willard, was born. In 1946 Mr. and Mrs. Hofer moved to Mountain Home, Ark. There she passed this life suddenly on August 5, 1954.
Left to mourn her passing are, the husband, Herman: one son,
Willard of Memphis, Tenn., and 5 grandchildren; two sisters Mrs. Franklin Bell of Milwaukee, Wise, Mrs. Orville Bricker of Lenox; one brother, Ralph Maharry, Rock Island, Ill.; and the many friends of the family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Jones, Orval Alanson -
Orval Alanson Jones was born April 12, 1883, son of Mr and Mrs J. West Jones. Born and schooled in Lenox. Was associated with his father and brother in the auction business, served in various civic positions in local and city capacities, and was a member of the Lenox United Presbyterian church.
In 1905, March 29 Orval and Olive Richard were married, living in Lenox and later moving to Chicago. Two children were .born, to .this happy union, Wesley R and Helen Louise. Wesley a young man, of 40 years passed away in 1948,
After a brief illness of two weeks Orval passed away in a Des Moines Hospital on Aug. 18, 1954.
Those left to mourn are, his devoted wife, daughter Helen, two brothers, Carey M of Chicago and Harry A of Omaha, Neb.
After twenty years of residence in Des Moines he returned to Lenox for his final resting place.
Funeral services were Friday from Bender Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Claire Hawthorne, Clarinda. Burial in Lenox cemetery.

Louk, Golda Bye -
Golda, daughter of Wm and Lorena Bye was born near Maloy,
la., Sept 1, 1906 and departed this life at Mission, Kansas, June 20, 1954 at the age of 48 years.
The family resided near Clearfield until 1918 when they moved
to Hartford, Kan., where she graduated from high school and
then attended State Teachers College at Emporia, fitting herself
to be a teacher. She taught in the Waverly community for several years.
June 14, 1928 she was united in marriage to Frank T Louk of
Waverly, Kansas. To this union were born three sons: Gail V.,
Frank W., and Peter. The family has lived in Mission for some
time.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Capt Ernest Bye, who
lost his life in the Pacific Ocean in 1944, and her mother, only 11
weeks ago, on March 31. Surviving besides her husband and 3 sons, are her father Wm Bye of Cameron, Mo.; a sister, Bernice Weismiller of Bryton, Colo.; a brother, Ralph Bye of Kansas City, Kan.; other
relatives and many friends. Funeral services and interment
were in Mission, Kan., June 23.

Earl Lowery, 61, died at the Lenox Rest Home Saturday evening.

Meyer, Mary Reimer Youernig –
Mrs. Mary Meyer, a native of Austria, died at her home here
Saturday evening after suffering a stroke earlier in the day.
Funeral services were Wednesday, June 23, at the Bender
Funeral Home, the Rev Williard Morris, officiating. Burial was
in Fairview cemetery.
Relatives who came from a distance to the funeral included
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyer, Frank Meyer and Mary Joyce Titus of
Excelsior Springs, Mrs. Ed Hostler, Grand Island, Neb.
Mary Reiner was born in Austria Feb 15, 1864, and came with
her parents and six brothers to America in 1886. In 1887 she was
married to Frank Youernig, in Chillicothe, Mo. Two children were born to this union, Teresa and. Francis. Mr. Youernig died in May 1889, and Francis died in October of the same year, at the age of 3 months.
In 1892 she was married to Richard Meyer in Stanberry Mo., and then came to Lenox, Ia., where they lived together until Mr. Meyer died in February 1946. They had two sons, Fred and Frank, who died at the age of 7 years.
Mrs. Meyer died suddenly at her home in Lenox June 19, 1954, having reached her 90th birthday in February. She remained active until the day of her death, caring for her own needs and for her garden. She was a member of the Methodist church.
She leaves her daughter, Teresa Hostler, of Grand Island, Neb.; her son Fred Meyer of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; six grandchildren,
11 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren.

J. R. Crew was called to Bedford last Saturday evening by the death of Mrs. Olive Moffett, 84, at the Williams Nursing Home. The body was brought to the Crew Funeral Home where it remained until Wednesday afternoon when it was taken to the Methodist Church for funeral services. Her husband Elmer Moffett preceded her in

A message was received Wednesday July 21 from Mrs. H. C.
Moore from San Antonio. Tex.. that Dr. Moore had died there
at 10:30 a. m. Dr. Moore had been in failing health but held
on to the care of his patients until two weeks ago when he
left, hoping to find relief.
He is survived by his wife, aged mother and two sisters. Funeral services were held at Fayetteville. Ark.. July 24, with burial there, where the daughter and son are buried, both having met death, one in a plane crash and the other in an auto accident.

Moore, Harris C. –
Dr Harris C. Moore, son of Dr Henry and Mary Carnahan Moore was born July 21, 1890, at Cane Hill, Ark., and died July 21, 1954 in San Antonio, Texas hospital at the age of 64 years.
He attended school in Fayetteville, Ark., and the University of Arkansas. He was a graduate of Bennett Medical School in Chicago. He practiced medicine in several Iowa towns and had been Clearfield’s local physician since 1949.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Jane and a son Gene.
Surviving are his wife of Carl Junction, Mo.; his mother, Mrs.
Henry Moore of Avoca, Ark.; 2 sisters, Mrs. G Caldwell of Avoca
and Mrs. R Ogelvia of Azura, Calif. Funeral rites were conducted
at Fayetteville July 24.

Palmer, William Wilson -
William Wilson Palmer, son of Samuel and Emily Jane Palmer was born April 26, 1864 near Grand River, Decatur County, Iowa, and passed away at his home in Conway, Iowa, July 10, 1954 at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 14 days.
During his teaching career he was principal at both the Gravity and Conway schools, and later practiced law successfully in Iowa, South Dakota and Montana.
In his youth he was baptized into the Camden Baptist Church and retained his church membership throughout the years, holding many offices.
At the age of 21 he was initiated into the I.O.O.F. Lodge and later became Grand Master of the lodge for the State of Montana.
He was married August 12, 1888 to Eva Ramsey. To this union
3 daughters were born.
On May 29, 1904 he was married to Gertrude Laycock. To this
union 4 children were born. Three of his daughters preceded
him in death.
He is survived by his wife Gertrude, 4 children: Mrs. Edith
Moran, Woodburn, la.; W W Palmer, Jr., Council Bluffs, la.
George D Palmer, Des Moines, la.; and Mrs. Mary Forcade of
Graham, Mo. Sixteen grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; 1
brother, Charles of Burbank, Calif., and many nieces and nephews.

Riley, Caroline Emily Oliver -
Caroline Emily Oliver Riley, daughter of Walter and Mary Ann Oliver, was born in Grigsville, Pike County, Ill., on July 28, 1875, and departed this life at 12:35 a. m. June 27, 1954, at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, la., at the age of 78 years, ten months and 29 days.
When two years of age she moved with her parents to Adams County, Iowa, and located in Mercer Township where she spent the rest of her life.
She was united in marriage to Frank Riley Feb. 28, 1899 at her home after which they settled on the homestead of the bride's parents, where she has resided nearly 77 years. Three children, Florence Mary, Kenneth Paul, and Frances Genevieve, were born to this union.
The son, Kenneth Paul, preceded her in death Aug. 23, 1919
and the husband Frank, on Feb 7, 1936.
Mrs. Riley was a quiet home-loving person and her whole life was spent in devoted and loving care of her family. Her work done here on earth, she slipped away as the Sabbath was beginning, to rest with her loved one and her Lord, where Sabbath never ends.
Early in life, Mrs. Riley united with the Mercer Center Methodist
church. She was an active member as long as her health permitted She taught a Sunday School class for a number of years. She was Sunday School Supt. several times, one of which was nine years in succession. She was active in the Ladies Aid organization.
Mrs. Riley is survived by two daughters Florence Mary Walter
and Frances Genevieve Rogers two sons-in-law, Wray L Walter
and Gerald H Rogers; four grandchildren, Marilyn Ann, Ronald and Franklin Rogers. and Caroline Kaye Walter; 3 brothers, Charles P Oliver of King City, Mo.; Marion Jo of Guilford, Mo., and William W
of Holyoke, Colo., one sister, Mary Fannie Martin of Darlington, Mo., besides nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who will always cherish her memory.
The memorial service was conducted at the Mercer Center Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Stover of the Salem church assisted by Rev. Cunningham of the Prescott-Mercer Center churches. A quartette of nephews of the deceased sang “Cast Your Bread upon the Waters” at the Gerald Rogers home, “Beyond the Sunset” and “The Eastern Gate” at the church. They were Leonard Oliver, Frederick Hanna and Vilas Martin. A niece of Mrs. Riley, Mrs. Ernest Page of Maryville was the pianist.
The casket bearers were all nephews of the deceased: Ernest, Henry, Maynard, Virgil and Wesley Oliver and Earl Martin. The flower bearers were Doris Allbey, Lillian Beggs, Irene Ghanquist and Florence Miller. Interment in the Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Dennis Saunders, 16 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Saunders, died Sunday morning at the University hospital in Iowa City. Survivors include his parents and one sister, Vicki Lee, 4 years old.

Schilty, Henry Jr. -
Henry Schilty Jr. 23 years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schilty
of Industrial City, Mo., was drowned Monday evening in a pond near Independence, Mo. He had gone in swimming with three other boys and it is not exactly known what happened. His body was not recovered for 45 minutes. A pulmotor was used to no avail. Funeral services were held at Industrial City July 8th with burial there. He received his discharge from the armed forces in December, 1953 after serving 18 months in Japan. He was a nephew of Mrs. Chester Welch.

Mrs. Adaline Wright, 80, died at the Thomas nursing home here at 2 a. m. Wednesday. Her death followed an extended illness. Mrs. Wright had lived in the Lenox community most of her life. Her body is at the Bender funeral home. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Her only survivor is a nephew, Ronnie Benson of Long Beach, Calif.

Wright, Adaline Belle Douglas -
Adaline Belle Douglas was born near Monmouth, Ill March 15, 1874. When she was about 2 years old, she came with her parents to Washington County Iowa. When she was about 10 years old, the family moved to Otoe County, Neb., where they remained until the summer of 1889, when they came to Lenox, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Ellsworth Wright July 20, 1892. To this union was born one child, Mary Ellen (Nellie) who passed away December 20, 1909. Mr. Wright preceded his wife in death Feb. 4, 1930.
Mrs. Wright had been a member of the United Presbyterian church most of her life, having united with the church at Dunbar, Neb., when she was 12, and transferring her membership to Lenox, where she remained an active member throughout her life. She was an active member, at one time the President of the Women's Relief Corps, and was a long-time member of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Wright passed away after a short illness, at the Lenox Rest Home July 13, 1954. Her only living relative is Ronnie Benson of Long Beach, Calif., but she will be missed by many neighbors and friends of her church and community.
Funeral services were from the Bender Funeral Home, conducted
by Rev Willard Morris, minister of the Presbyterian church. Burial in Fairview.
