Earl
Bassett, 64, of Corning, died Friday at the Greater Community Hospital in
Creston after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Monday. Rev. Laurence Murphy of the Federated Church
officiated. Burial was in Walnut Grove
cemetery.
Mr.
Bassett was employed as a feed and mineral salesman.
Surviving
are his widow, a daughter, Mrs. Marieta VanPelt of Cheyenne, Wyo., a son Merrill Basset of
Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Badgett of
Corning, and Stella Grecian of Eureka, Calif., and three brothers, Roy Bassett
of Martinez, Calif., Clarence Bassett of Corning and Orville Bassett of Lenox.

Carter,
Etta Wilson –
Funeral
services were held at the Arnold Funeral Home, Saturday for Mrs. D. L. Carter,
who passed away Thursday, April 12, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gail
Richards, in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was 81 years of age at the time of death. The
Rev. Merwin Coad officiated
with interment in the Lenox cemetery. Music was furnished by Rolland Buxton and Mrs.
Ruth Boltinghouse. Pallbearers were Floyd Boltinghouse, Chester
Boyer, Charles Wurster, Joe Brown, Charles Eckler, and John Porter.
Etta
Carter was born on September 14, 1869 near Conway, Iowa. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry
Wilson. She became a member of the
Christian Church during early childhood holding her membership in the Blue
Grove and Lenox Christian churches.
On
March 10, 1891, she was united in marriage to Darwin Carter and to this union
one daughter, Opal, was born. Mr. Carter
preceded his wife in death in January of 1947. The Carters made their home in the Blue Grove community until 1912 at
which time they moved to Lenox where
they resided until 1947. Following Mr.
Carter’s death, Mrs. Carter moved to Pittsburg, Pa. to reside with her
daughter, Mrs. Opal Richard. She was a
long time member of the M.F.C. Club and active in many other community affairs
during her lifetime.
Left
to mourn her passing are one daughter Opal Richard, W. G. Richard, her
son-in-law, two grandchildren, Virginia and Don Richard, one brother, B. F.
Richard of Arcata, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. John Drain. Mrs. Drain made her
home with the Carter family from the time she was 11 years of age until she
established a home of her own. She was
every bit as much of the family as if she had been a
blood relative. The record of thoughts, words and deeds which lie behind the life of
Mrs. Carter are adequate testimony to her gentle spirit and willing nature to
do that which would help most She
as always an ardent worker in the church and helped in countless ways to promote
the great Kingdom. Many friends and
neighbors of the Carters have expressed their appreciation for the life of Mrs.
Carter.

DeyErmand, Donald E. –
Mr.
and Mrs. W. H. Madden, received word this week of the death of Donald E. DeyErmand, 32, of Boulder, Colo. whose father and
grandparents were former Lenox residents. Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don DeyErmand of Dalton, Neb., besides his wife and two children.
An
account of the death, stated in part Donald E. DeyErmand,
popular 32 year old linotype operator on the mechanical staff of The Camera, (Boulder, Colo.) died
shortly before press time this afternoon at the Sanatorium, where he was taken when he became
suddenly and critically ill Sunday, (April 15). Born in Kimball, Neb. on Aug. 1, 1918, he moved to Dalton, Nebr. with
his parents two years later and grew to manhood thee. He attended the University of Nebraska for 3
years, then entered the Navy in August of 1941.
In May
of 1943 he was appointed to the US Naval Academy and was commissioned there as
an ensign the following September. Following
his discharge from the service he was employed at newspaper work in Alliance,
Kimball and Scottsbluff, Neb. before joining the staff of The Camera in Boulder. Funeral services were held in Dalton with burial there.

Dunbar,
Alice Marie Stroud –
Alice
Marie Dunbar, beloved wife of Donald M. Dunbar passed away March 28, 1951 at
11:05 p.m. at the age of 45 years, one month and 23 days, following an illness
of several months.
Alice Dunbar,
daughter of Evan and Jennie Stroud, was born in Omaha, Neb., on Feb. 5, 1906.
She graduated from the Consolidated high school at Stennett, Iowa and also attended Red Oak junior college.
She was baptized in Omaha at the Methodist church on May 10, 1907, by Dr. C. A.
Luce.
She
was united in marriage to Donald M. Dunbar in Creston, Iowa at the Methodist
parsonage on Nov. 1, 1930. She lived most of her life in Iowa, moving to Des
Moines about 10 years ago. She was
employed by the Winston Newell Wholesale Grocery as a secretary.
Surviving
are her husband, her father, the Rev. E. R, Stroud and her stepmother, Mrs. Minta Stroud, of Garwin, Iowa;
one sister, Virginia Swallow of Des Moines; two step-sisters, Mrs. Lauretta Spicer of Lenox and Mrs. Darlene Lininger of Diagonal; two half-brothers Charles Stroud and
Robert Stroud, both of Des Moines, the latter now stationed with the US Armed
forces in Okinawa; one step-brother,
Daryl Benson of New Mexico and an aunt, Mrs. Maria O. Sprinkle of Bethesda,
Maryland. She also leaves a number of
other relatives and a host of friends who mourn her passing.
She
was a friend to all, always cheerful, always considerate of others.
Funeral
services were held on Saturday, March 31, at the Arnold
Funeral
Home, with Rev Merwin Coad officiating. Burial in Lenox Memory Garden. Music was
furnished by Rolland Buxton with Ruth Boltinghouse at
the piano. Pallbearers were Raymond Schneider, K. R. Button, Dick Dunbar Jr.,
Jean Bailie, Byron Swanson and George Dunbar.

Hansell, Laura Jones -
Mrs.
Laura Hansell, 80, one time resident of the
Clearfield vicinity, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guy
Horton, near Lenox. Funeral services were held at the Crew funeral home in
Clearfield
on Monday with burial in the Clearfield cemetery.
Laura
Jones was born to Jesse and Lucinda Jones near Prescott, Iowa, January 10, 1871
and passed from his life April 14, 1951, aged 80 years, three months and four
clays at the home of her daughter near Lenox.
Her
girlhood was spent on a farm south of Kent. She was married to Charles F. Hansell, March
11, 1891 and they made their home on a farm two miles east of Calvary church of
which she was a charter member and faithful worker. They lived in Clearfield
from 1923 till 1927, then returned to the farm. After
her husband’s death September 1935, Mrs. Hansell returned
to her home in Clearfield.
A
little over a year ago, due to serious illness, she was taken to her daughter's
home near Lenox, where she has received loving care from her children.
She is
survived by three children Harry of
Clearfield, Bert
of Diagonal and Ruth Horton of Lenox; three grandchildren and
two great grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Hattie Millikin,
departed this life in 1930, and Jesse and Edna died in infancy.
Mrs. Hansell had many friends and was loved by all. She was a
very patient sufferer during her long illness, always appreciative
of the loving care by her children and the kindness of her friends. Her faith in
her Savior and her confidence in the welcome awaiting her in the glory land
sustained her through difficult days.

W. A. McKinstry of Clearfield received a message Thursday
stating that his brother, Harry McKinstry, 74, had died at
his
home in Pontiac, Mich. on April 11th. Funeral services and burial
were at Pontiac, April 13th. He is survived
by his wife, Irma,
a son Lloyd and daughter. Neva; also two brothers, James
of Hemingford, Neb., and Walter A. of Clearfield, and two sisters
Bertha McKinstry and Alice Moore of Topeka, Kans.

Mrs.
John Parisho, wife of the superintendent of the
Conway
schools,
died Sunday at her home in Conway. She had been
in ill health for some time. Funeral services were held at 9 a. m. Wednesday in
the Methodist church at Conway with Rev. Forrest Whitlach of Creston officiating. Burial at Salem. Surviving in
addition to her husband are three sons and two daughters.

Mary Jane Bell -
Mrs.
Mary Jane Reed, 91, a Clearfield resident for the last five years and before
that a long time resident of the Lenox community, died at 9 p. m. on Tuesday at
the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. J. Fattig at
Sharpsburg.
She had been ill only since last Friday and was taken to her daughter's home on
Saturday.
Funeral
services will be held at the Presbyterian church at
Lenox at 2 p. m. Thursday, Rev. Earl Moneymaker officiating. Burial will be
in the Lenox cemetery.
Mrs.
Reed had observed her 91st birthday on February 24. She had lived on a farm south
of Lenox and in Lenox for many years before moving to Clearfield about five
years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Reed, and son

Mrs. Frank Rood, Indianola, and Mrs. Joe Maynes,

Reed, Mary Jane Bell -
Mary Jane, daughter of Adam and Margaret Bell, was born in
Jefferson county, Iowa, February 24, 1860, and
departed this life on April 3, 1951 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Willard Fattig in Sharpsburg, at the age of 91 years, 1 month and
10 days.
She was united in marriage to Wm. Reed, October 6, 1886 at
Mt. Ayr, la. To this union were born three daughters:
Edna Fattig of Sharpsburg, Iowa; Minnie Rood of Milo,
Iowa; Jean Maynes, of Lenox, Iowa; and one son,
Harold. She was preceded in death by her son, Harold, September 6, 1918, and by
her husband July 27, 1922. Also preceding her in
death were two sisters and four brothers.
Besides the three surviving daughters she leaves to mourn
her loss four grandchildren, Mrs. Faye Jean Lesher of
San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Lucille Neely of Omaha, Neb., Harold and Joe Maynes of Lenox, Iowa, and four great grandchildren; also
one sister, Mrs. Emma Johnson of Creston, Iowa.
In early childhood she united with the United Presbyterian
church near Clearfield and remained a faithful worker as
long as her health permitted. Most of her life was spent in the Clearfield-Lenox
community and her last five years were
spent in Clearfield where she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral service were held at the
United Presbyterian church in Lenox, Iowa Thursday afternoon April 5th at 2 o’clock in charge of Rev. Earl Moneymaker. Music was furnished by Rolland Buxton and Mrs. James Arneal at the organ. Casket bearers were Ross
Hamilton, Earl Smith, Addis Reed, Jodie Hepperly, Sam Wurster and Orville Reed. Interment at Fairview
Cemetery at Lenox.

Mrs.
Connor Stephens died at her home eight miles south of
Clearfield,
Tuesday, May 18th, at the age of 78 years. She
is survived by her husband, Connor Stephens, two sons, David Stephens of
Bedford and Paul Stephens of Blockton, four
daughters, Mrs.
Robert
Judy of Blockton, Mrs. Mary Stout of Denver, Colo.,
Mrs. Ed Wilkinson of Laramie, Wyo., and Mrs. O. L. Dailey, St. Joseph, Mo. She
is also survived by 11 grandchildren.
The
remains were brought to the Ralph Crew Funeral Home in Clearfield where they
remained until Thursday. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2:30 P. M. at
the Methodist Church in Blockton. Interment was made
in the Blockton cemetery. The clergyman
officiating wag Rev. Jesse Wright of Mount Ayr.

Funeral
services for Mrs. Jack Stevenson. 69, who died at the
Clarinda Municipal hospital Sunday Oct. 1, were held the
following Monday afternoon at the United Presbyterian church
at Clearfield, with Rev. C. P. Hoffman officiating. Burial was
in the Clearfield cemetery. A member of the Federated Modern Literary club, she
had formerly taught in the grades there and was the music supervisor. She was
born in Ringgold county but spent most of her life in
the Clearfield vicinity. Surviving are her husband, a druggist in Clearfield for
many years, and one brother, Dr. C.

Pearl Hawthorne -
Pearl
Hawthorne, the daughter of James A. and Lois Hawthorne,
was born March 1, 1881 near Shannon City and departed this life Oct. 1, 1950 at the
Municipal hospital in Clarinda, Iowa, at the age of 61 years, 7 months.
She
was a graduate of Tarkio, Mo. high
school and later from Missouri Wesleyan College of Cameron, Mo. For a number of
years she was supervisor of music in Clearfield, as well as teacher in the
school.
On
Sept. 14, 1904 she was married to John M. Stephenson and their home has been in
Clearfield. Mrs. Stephenson was active in
business and social activities. She was a
consistent member of the United Presbyterian church where she led in music for
many years.
Besides
her husband, she leaves to mourn her passing one brother, C. E. Hawthorne, and
wife, two nephews, Robert Hawthorne of Bakersfield, Calif., and Donald C.
Hawthorne of Princeton, N. J., other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday afternoon in the United
Presbyterian church, Rev. C. Hoffman officiating. Burial was in
Clearfield cemetery.

Calvin Taylor, young youngest child of Jacob and Susan
Taylor, was born near Bedford, in Taylor county, Iowa, on Dec.
29,
1869, and passed away at his home in Lenox, Iowa, on July 1
1950,
aged 80 years, 6 months and 2 days.
On
June 21, 1894, he was united in marriage to Effie Estella
Thompson.
To this union five children were born: Susie Brown of Sharpsburg, Ruby Taylor
of Lenox, Clark of Maryville, Mo., Vera Martin of Winterset Mo., and Helen Hamblin
of Gravity. All of his life was spent in Taylor county,
with the exception of one year spent in Enid, Okla.
His
father, mother, one brother and six sisters preceded him in death. Left to
mourn his passing are his wife, five children, three sons-in-law, four
grandchildren, Gary and Richard Hamblin, and Billy and Karen Martin, nieces,
and nephew, one brother-in-law, and a host of friends

Mrs. Lydia
Thompson, 73, died Sunday at 7 a. m. at Creston at the Jones Convalescent Home,
where she had been for the past year. She had lived in Creston the past ten
years and previous to that time had lived in the Overmire School District six miles southeast of Lenox.
Services
were held Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Methodist
church in Lenox with Rev. Clarence Richardson officiating Burial in the Lenox
cemetery.
Survivors
include one brother, George Bennett, of Lenox, and a number of nieces and
nephews. Her husband preceded her in death about 15 years ago.

Thompson,
Lydia Maude Bennett -
Lydia
Maude Bennett, daughter of Mary and James Bennett,
was born on the farm where her brother George now lives, 3½
miles south and east of Lenox, Iowa, on July 22, 1877, and
passed away in Creston, Iowa, June 25, 1950 at the age of 72
years,
11 months and 3 days.
She
lived for a period of time with her mother and brother in Lenox
where she graduated from high school in 1898.
She
joined the Methodist church in Lenox, Sept. 12, 1897 and was an active member
of the church here during her high school days and the years that followed.
She
was united in marriage with Charles R. Thompson on
May
10, 1908, at Atchison, Kan. They made their home for a
number of years in Creston but in 1918 moved to a farm south
and east of Lenox. It was there that Mr. Thompson passed away May 8, 1935.
While
still living in Creston, they took Mr. Thompson's nephew,
Deane
Ellis, to live with them when his mother died while he was only three. He lived with them until he was grown.
Lydia
was preceded in death by her father and mother, three
sisters,
Flora, Inez and Minnie, and two brothers, Joseph and
Arthur.
She is survived by her brother, George, his daughters Flora and Marie, her
nieces, and sons David and Donald, and nephews and their families.
The
funeral service was held at the Lenox Methodist church

June 27 at 2 p. m. Music was furnished by. Mrs.
Marcia
Bender and Mrs. Norma Paymal with the service in
charge of Rev. Clarence Richardson, assisted by Rev. Clarence
McPherson
of the Clearfield Methodist Church.

Leslie
V. Toland, 55, died at 8 a. m. Tuesday at the
Veterans hospital in Des Moines. Surviving are his widow, Gertrude; two sisters, Mrs. Chester Pearson,
Lenox, and Mrs. Ruth Moore, Des Moines; three brothers, Branche,
Lenox; Will, of Industry, Ill.., and Walter of Des Moines; a number of nieces
and nephews; Bill Teply, who made his home with them.
He was born near Bethany Mo., and lived most of his life in the Lenox vicinity.
Funeral
services will be Friday at 2:30 at the Arnold Funeral Home in Lenox with Rev.
C. W. Richardson officiating. There will be a military service. He was a
veteran of World War I.

Toland,
Leslie Virgil -
Leslie
Virgil Toland was born Nov. 14, 1894 near Bethany, MO
the son of Josephine and Riley Toland, and passed away in
the
Veterans hospital in Des Moines Aug. 22, 1950 at the age of 55
years,
9 months and 8 days.
The
family resided at Industry, Ill., and Farmington, Iowa and
at the age of 8 he came with his parents to a farm east of Lenox, where he grew to
manhood. In early life he joined the
Calvary Methodist Church. In May, 1918
he was inducted into military service and served with 351st Infantry Supply
Company of the 88th Division. He was discharged in June 1919. He was a charter
member of the American Legion.
On
February 8, 1921 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Hayes. To this union two
sons were born, both dying in infancy. Jan. 1, 1932, they took their nephew, Bill,
into their home and they have cherished him as their own son.
He
leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Gertrude, and Bill, three brothers, Will
of Industry, Ill., Walter of Des Moines and Branch of Lenox; two sisters, Huldah Pearson of Lenox and

76, who passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 24, at Immanuel Lutheran hospital in

and Rev. Earl Moneymaker officiated at the services with burial in Lenox
cemetery.
Obituary
Minnie
Florence Brokaw was born July 16, 1874, at North Robinson, Ohio, to James Scott
and Jane Gearhart Brokaw and passed away in the Immanuel Lutheran hospital,
Omaha, Neb. on December 24, 1950, at the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 8 days.
At the
age of 16 she moved with her family from, Springville,
Iowa,
to Corning, Iowa where she attended the Corning Academy. She was united in marriage to Jacob Jesse Walter of Lenox, Iowa on March 3,
1894. They have made their home in, the Lenox vicinity all
the years since.
Mrs.
Walter is survived by her husband, two sons, Roland and Harry of Lenox, and
three daughters, Mrs. Ralph McGee of Osceola, Mrs. William Layland of Audubon and Mrs. Gerald Fleming of Cedar Falls.
Other
survivors in addition to her immediate family are ten grandchildren, one .great
grandchild, two sisters, Miss Fannie Brokaw and Mrs. John Wray of Portland,
Ore., and two brothers, Harry D. Brokaw and Lyman G. Brokaw, both of Williston,
North Dakota. An infant daughter born in 1907 preceded her in death.
Mrs.
Walter was a member of the Presbyterian church in her
girlhood,
later becoming a member of the Lenox Methodist
Church. She was a member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service, the Lenox
Fortnightly club, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Past Matrons' club. Her
untiring devotion to her family and friends knew no bounds and this beautiful
memory is her great gift to her family.

Clifford Lee -
Clifford
Walter, 45, died at 3 p.m. Sunday, at a hospital in Long Beach, Calif.
Surviving are his widow, Gretchen, 10- year-old daughter Sandra Lee, one
brother Julian, who went to California by plane Sunday afternoon, but did not
get to California before his brother's death; one sister, Mrs. William Grant,
of Long, Beach, Calif., and his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Walter,
of Lenox,
who had just started home after a visit in the Clifford Walter home, but were
called back when he became seriously ill. Mrs. Walter's mother, Mrs. O. L.
Copeland, and her sister, Mrs. William Fisher, left on Monday at 2 p. m. by
plane for California.
Clifford
Walter was born near Lenox and was a graduate of Lenox High school. He also attended college and studied music in
California. He had been in the produce business
for a number of years in Lenox before he and his
family moved to California about four years ago.
Funeral
services will be held at Long Beach, with burial there.

Clifford
Lee Walter was born July 27, 1904, and passed away at Seaside hospital, Long
Beach, California, March 12, 1950, at the age of 45 years, 7 months and 15
days.
Clifford
was a graduate of the Lenox high school and attended
the University of Nebraska. He was united in
marriage to
Gretchen
Copeland on October 6, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska. To
this union was born one child Sandra Lee.
Clifford
spent most of his life in Lenox, where he was employed
by Copeland-Wells for 12 years. On February 20, 1947 they moved to Long Beach,
California, where he was employed by the Municipal Courts. Mr. Walter was united with the Methodist
Church at an
early age.
Funeral
services were held at Dilday Chapel on March 15 at
2:00
P. M., Rev. Norbet Muehler of the Bethany Lutheran church officiating. Place
of interment, Sunnyside Mausoleum.

He
leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, one daughter, his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
L.N. Walter of Lenox;; sister, Ethel Grant of Long Beach,

Art E.
Welch, 68, of Clarinda died Tuesday night in Clarinda's
Municipal
hospital as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Nov.
22. The accident occurred at the Gravel
Point school corner east of Highway 148 at 10:30 a. m. when a 1949 Ford driven
by Dean Beemer of Gravity and the 1939 Studebaker driven by
Mr.
Welch collided. Dell Cheer of Gravity was also in the Beemer car.
Following
the accident, Mr. Welch was taken by ambulance
to Municipal hospital. Beemer and Dell Cheer were taken to
the hospital at Maryville, where Dell Cheer remains with broken
ribs,
cuts and bruises. Beemer was able to leave the hospital
the same, evening. Mr. Welch had been a farm supervisor of the state hospital at
Clarinda. His death is the first traffic fatality in Taylor
county for 23 months.
Beemer
Tuesday was fined $25 and costs by Justice of the Peace Ed Beard for failure to
yield the right of way.
Mr. Welch
was a brother of Chester Welch of Lenox. Funeral
services were held Friday Nov. 29, at the United Presbyterian
church in Clarinda, with burial at Prairie Rose cemetery

Wells,
William H. –
William
H. Wells was born on June 5th, 1867, south of Centerville,
la. and died in Centerville, May 21st, 1950, at the age of
82 years, 11 months and 16 days.
Mr.
Wells was married to Lizzie Hughes and to this union three daughters,
Catherine, Mary and Grace, were born.
After
farming for some time Mr. Wells decided to take up
auctioneering and moved his family to Centerville where he lived until three years ago, when
he came to stay with his cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Huffman in Clearfield, only
returning to Centerville a few months ago.
His
wife and three daughters preceded him in death. He is survived by one brother,
Philip H. Wells of Centerville, and two cousins, Mrs. Bert Huffman of
Clearfield and Mrs. Sadie Bend of Lenox.
Funeral
services were held at the Johnston Funeral Home on
May
23rd with burial in the Oakland cemetery. Mr.
and Mrs. Bert Huffman and Mr. and Mrs. Erwood Huffman
of Clearfield accompanied by Mrs. Merle Huffman of Benton, attended the
funeral.

Williams
at his home in Bosworth, Mo. He was a brother of the

Herbert Franklin -
Herbert
Franklin Williams was born January 23, 1882, at Mindin,
Missouri and departed this life at his home southwest of Lenox, Tuesday, June
20, 1950, at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 27 days, after an illness of
five years.
He was
married October 26, 1902 to Tura D. Young at El Dorado
Springs,
Missouri. To this union five children were
born, two dying in infancy; also his parents, two brothers and one sister
preceded him in death.
He
leaves to mourn his loss, his ever loving and devoted wife
Tura,
and three children, Melvin and Glen of Lenox and Bernice
Brown
of Clearfield; two daughters-in-law and one son-in-law, five grandchildren,
Norma, Dorothy and Billy Williams, Janet Kaye Williams and Leonard Brown, two
sisters, Ethel and Joanna of Beaconsfield, Iowa and two brothers, Arthur of Bosworth, Missouri and
John of Nodaway, Iowa, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was
a kind and loving husband and father, always thinking
of his loved ones and home.
Funeral
services were held at the Barber Funeral Home on
Thursday,
June 22 at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Earl Moneymaker in
charge. Interment in Lenox
cemetery.

Williams,
Howard Frances -
Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Clute received word Friday that their
son-in-law,
Howard Williams had passed away at a hospital
in Kalamazoo, Mich. He had visited here just last week. His
home was in Detroit, Mich. and he was a former resident of Bedford.
Howard
Francis Williams was born near Terre Haute, Illinois
on May 3, 1903 and passed away suddenly at the Bronson hospital
in Kalamazoo, Michigan on June 2, 1950 at the age of 47 years and one month. He
was the second son of Harvey M. and Bertha Stout Williams.
After
the death of his mother, he came to make his home with
Alpha
and Stella Clark and graduated from the Clearfield high school in 1922. He
began his career with the railroad after graduation and was traveling
representative for the Chicago, Northwestern Railway at the time of his death.
On May
30, 1925, he was united in marriage to Pauline Clute of Clearfield, who was
with him at the time of his passing. They
have spent most of their married life in Detroit, Michigan. To this union two
daughters, Phyllis Ann and Freda Jeanette, were born. In May, 1935, at the age
of four years and nine months, Jeanette passed away and is interred in the
Clearfield cemetery.
Howard
was a kind and loving husband, an affectionate father and a friend to all who
knew him. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church of Highland Park,
Michigan, the Woodman Lodge of Clearfield, Iowa, and the Waverly Lodge of the
Masonic Order, Detroit, Michigan.
He is
survived by his wife, Pauline, of Detroit, his daughter
and son-in-law, Captain and Mrs. O. R. Dinsmore who were
unable to attend the services because of illness; his foster parents, Alpha and
Stella Clark of Clearfield, Iowa; one brother, Glenn, of Atlantic
Iowa,
many relatives and a host of personal and business friends
who mourn his passing.
The
funeral services were held at the Methodist church in
Clearfield
on June 5 with Rev. C.E. McPhernon officiating.
Mrs Thelma Richey sang ”In the Garden" and
"Jesus Saviour
Pilot
Me." The Masonic Commital services were held at
the grave. Those acting as pallbearers were Leo Wilson, Jack Whitmore

Wilson,
Thomas William -
Thomas
William Wilson, son of James
and Mary Wilson, was
born in Mahaska county, Iowa on September 9, 1872 and departed
this
life on November 25, 1950 at Excelsior Springs, Mo., at the age of 78 years; 2
months and 16 days. Mr. Wilson became a Christian during the days of his youth
and was a life-long member of the Masonic Order. Many years were spent in Portland, Ore., but
he returned to Lenox to make a home for his aging mother in later years.
He
leaves to survive his death one brother, John Wilson, Prescott, Iowa and one
sister, Maude Moon of Knoxville, Iowa, Iowa, and numerous nephews and nieces.
The last years of his life have been spent at Excelsior Springs, Mo., except
for numerous trips to Corning, Lenox and those communities to visit relatives
and friends

Wilson, Wilma Richards –
Mrs.
Wayne Wilson died Sunday afternoon at North Platte, Nebraska, according to word
received by Mr. Wilson's aunt,
Mrs.
Roy Nelson. Funeral and burial services were held at
North
Platte on Wednesday. Mrs. Wilson, the former Wilma
Richards, operated a beauty shop in Corning a few years ago. Mr. Wilson is a former Lenox man, son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Orie Wilson.
Mr and Mrs. Jodie Hepperly, south of Lenox, sister of
Mr. Wilson, and Mrs. Frank Carr of Maloy, attended the services.

Wolford,
Mary C. Larson -
Mary
C. Larson, daughter of Ola and Breta Larson, was born
in Sweden, Dec, 18, 1861, and died at the Terrill Nursing home
in Bedford, Iowa, July 11, 1950, aged 88 years, 6 months and 23
days.
She
came with her parents to America in 1870. She attended
Public
School and grew to womanhood. On March 8, 1892, she was
united in marriage to Newton Wolford and they came to Iowa
settling north of Clearfield whence they moved to Clearfield The husband died in May
1924.
Mrs.
Wolford was a consistent member of the Methodist church from girlhood and was a
faithful worker in both Sunday School and the church
activities as long as her health permitted.
She
was much interested in patriotic work and at one time was a member of the
Woman's Relief Corps 343 for 23 consecutive years.
She is
survived by one sister Fredricka Larson of Galesburg
Ill., and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral
services were held on July 13 at 2 p. m. at the Clearfield
Methodist
church, with interment in the Clearfield Cemetery.
Coming
to attend the services were Roy Larson of Galesburg
and Newton and Ernest Wolford of Stronghurst, Ill.
