Iva
Mae Crawford was born September
28, 1884, near Petersburg, Ill., the daughter of Charles Henry Crawford and Frances Luella Strader. When she was only three months of age, her
father died. During the next eight years, she was often cared for by her
grandmother Strader while her mother worked to support her children.
When Iva was nine, her mother
married [James] Azel Terry and
the family moved to Taylor County, Iowa where she continued her education in
the public schools and Baptist Sunday school. When a young woman, she became a
member of the Baptist Church in Bedford.
On
June 28, 1916, she was married to Lewis J. [ames] Davidson of Bedford, who had lost his wife the previous
year, leaving three children, Troy Wendell, Mildred, and Bernice, to whom she opened her heart and endeared
herself as a mother.
In
1923, she and her husband were identified with Christians meeting with the Berea
congregation of the Church of Christ south of Bedford where both worshipped
regularly as long as health permitted.
To
this marriage three sons were born, Dwight, and twins, Dean and Dale.
On
August 17, 1933 she lost her husband after a lingering illness and was left
alone to rear her children. Throughout her long life, she never wavered in time
of distress, hardship, and discouragement. Her courage to do at all times what
she believed to be right, gave her children and many friends an example to
strive to equal.
Except
for five years in Kansas City, she made her home in the Bedford area where she
resided until January 1970, when her health made it necessary to give up her
home. Since then, she has been wonderfully cared for by her daughter and
son-in-law, Mildred and Francis Cobb, who out of their love and respect, have willingly made great
sacrifice for her needs.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Derry, and Mrs. Verna [Lorraine] Drumm; a brother, Phil [Azel] Terry; two grandchildren, Lou and Michael Davidson.
She
leaves her six children; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one great
great grandchild.

SIAM – March 6 – This community was made sad by the death of one of its oldest settlers, Abraham Henderson, who passed away Thursday night at 11:20 P. M. at the home of his son, Clarence, after a brief illness. He suffered a stroke of paralysis on Monday evening about 10:30 from which he failed to rally. Mr. Henderson was 81 years, 10 months and a few days of age. His wife, Mary Philpott Henderson, passed to the great beyond nearly two years ago, also an infant daughter passed away in infancy. He leaves four sons, Fred, Jesse, Clarence and Clifford, 12 grandchildren, 3 brothers and many other relatives and friends. He was a member of the church of Christ from which place his funeral was preached at 2 P. M. Sunday by Rev. Grubb of New Market. Interment in Siam cemetery. The family have the sympathy of all in their sorrow.

Abraham W. Henderson – Abraham Wesley Henderson, son of Isaac and Mary Ann Henderson, was born in Miami county, Indiana, July 26, 1848. He moved with his parents to Fulton county Iowa, near Siam and departed this life February 28, 1929, at the home of his son, Clarence, age 81 years, 7 months and 2 days.
He was united in marriage to Mary Alice Philpott, July 28, 1878, who preceded him in death March 7, 1927. To this union were born five children, four boys and one girl. Gracie departed this life at the age of 2 months and 9 days. He leaves to mourn his departure his four sons, Fred, Jesse and Clarence of Siam, Iowa; Clifford of Creston, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; three brothers, George I. of Cuba, Ill.; William of Toppenish, Washington; and Edward of Bedford, Iowa, besides many other relatives and friends.
He was a member of the Church of Christ at Siam and has lived a faithful member for over fifty years.
The funeral was held last Sunday at the Christian church at Siam conducted by Rev. L. F. Grubbs of New Market and burial was made in the Siam cemetery.
The sorrowing relatives have the sincere sympathy of all in this sad hour.

Clarence
[Isaac] Henderson died Thursday
evening in the hospital at Red Oak. Mr. Henderson was operated on Friday, Jan. 6, for appendicitis,
and later developed pneumonia. He passed away Thursday evening at 8 o'clock.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Christian church, with the
Rev. J. C. Harris of Bedford having charge. He leaves to mourn his death his wife,
two daughters, two sons and three brothers. The family has the sympathy of the
entire community.

Isaac Henderson, son of Abraham
[Wesley] and Mary [Alice Philpot] Henderson, was born near Siam, Iowa, March 26, 1890, and departed this life at
the hospital at Red Oak, Iowa, at eight ten P. M., January 12th, 1933, aged 42
years, 9 months and 17 days.
He
was united in marriage to Lilly [Lillie] Clayton January 26, 1915. To this union were born five
children, three boys and two girls. One infant boy preceded him in death. He
leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, two sons, Harold [Wilbur] and Luther, and
two daughters, Marie and Ruby, all at home. Three brothers, Fred of New Market, Iowa, Jessie of Siam and Clifford of Bedford, Iowa, besides several other relatives
and a host of friends. He united with the Church of Christ at Siam, Iowa, in
1906, of which he was a faithful attendant until his death.
Funeral
services were held at the Christian church in Bedford Sunday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. Harris. Burial was in Siam cemetery.

Elda
C. Stickelman, daughter of John
Monroe and Missouri Ann Ingram Stickelman, was born at Siam, Taylor County, Iowa, March 3, 1888. The Stickelmans were a pioneer family in Siam and
Taylor County.
On
February 28, 1907, she was married to Francis Elmer Henderson; and had continued to live in Taylor County until
five years ago, when she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and two years later to
Wymore, Nebraska, where she had made her home since.
Survivors
include three sisters: Mrs Edward (Iva) Glover, Mrs. Floyd (Nell) Cobb and Mrs. Roe (Lonesa) Bradley; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Kila Stickelman, wife of John Loyd Stickelman and Mrs. Elsie Stickelman, wife of Arthur Stickelman, all of Bedford; three children: Mrs. Beatrice
[Elma] Ely, Des Moines, Iowa, Francis
[Marion] Henderson and his wife Bea, of Omaha, and Wilbur [James] Henderson and his wife, Beulah, of Wymore, Nebr.; six grandchildren: Duane

Elda was preceded in death by a twin sister, Mrs.

was a member of the Christian Church in Bedford since early childhood.

Henderson was born November 14,
1861 in Fulton County, Ill., and died at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 24
days.
On
September 20, 1889, he was married to Minnie Belle Potter, who died March 7 1940.
To
them were born ten children, three of whom preceded them in death.
He
is survived by seven children, Olive [Pearl] Talkington, Nellie Cobb and Alice Horning of Bedford; Bessie Strine of Blue Hill, Nebr., Helen Carney of Campbell, Nebr., Lee R. Henderson of Butler, Wisc., Kenneth Henderson of Excelsior Springs, Mo., all of whom were
present except one son, Lee R. Henderson. He also leaves 15
grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He
was a member of the Christian church.
The
funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. P. H. Peterson. Burial was in the Bedford cemetery.

A. [ndrew] and [Sarah] Annette Jared Henderson, was born in Taylor County, Oct. 26, 1883, and
died June 11, 1956 from pneumonia at the age of 72 years.
He
was married to Elda Stickelman on February 28, 1907, and to them four children were born; Beatrice
Henderson Ely and Francis
Marion of Des Moines, Wilbur of Red Cloud, Nebr., and a son, who died in
infancy.
He
was baptised into the Siam Church of Christ in 1906. He was a mechanic by
trade, living the greater part of his life in and around Bedford and Taylor
County.
One
sister and two grandsons preceded him in death.
He
leaves to mourn his wife, three children, two brothers, Fred [Albert] of Creston and Charles of Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Harold
[Wilbur] Henderson, 18, son of Mrs.
Lillie Henderson of the Siam
community, died in Des Moines Wednesday afternoon, following an operation, for
appendicitis more than a week ago. Henderson was a member of the C. C. C. Camp in Des Moines.
The body is expected to arrive in Bedford today. The funeral services will be
held at the Christian church at Siam and burial made in the Siam cemetery.

services for Harold Henderson,
18, who died in Des Moines Wednesday, March 11, were held at the Christian church

Wilbur Henderson, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence [Isaac] Henderson [Lillie Clayton] of Siam, was born May 9, 1917.
He
went through the Siam public school and was a regular attendant of the Sunday
school of the Siam Christian church, and joined the church five years ago.
On
the 20th day of July 1935, he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps and was
stationed at Clarinda. He was successively in the following camps: Fort Des
Moines, Albia, Knoxville, and Fort Des Moines, where he died. His death was due
to complications following an appendicitis operation.
Harold's
father, Clarence [Isaac] Henderson,
preceded him in death three years ago. He leaves to mourn, his mother, Mrs.
Lillie Henderson; three sisters, Ruby,
Marie and Clarice Jean; and one brother, Luther.

I. [saac] Henderson, son of Isaac
[George] and Mary Ann [Griffee] Henderson, was born in Fulton County, Illinois, Sept. 2, 1856, and died near
Siam, Iowa, October 22, 1924, aged 68 years, 1 month and 20 days.
He
moved to Iowa with his parents in 1876 and had lived here most of the time
since. There were seven children, six boys and one girl, the latter dying
several years ago. The brothers are, Abe [Abraham Wesley] of
near Siam, Wm. of Wyoming, George of Illinois and Nate and Edward of Bedford.
Walt, as he was commonly known, possessed a host of
friends. He was a great lover of children and they all loved him.
The funeral was held at
the Christian church in Siam and the remains laid to rest in the Siam cemetery.

Ann Griffee was born Dec. 17,
1819, in Green County, Ohio and died at the residence of her son, N. [athan]
A. [ndrew] Henderson, Taylor
county, Iowa, Feb. 10, 1906, aged 86 years, 1 month and 24 days. She was
married to Isaac G.[eorge] Henderson Jan. 14, 1844 in Miami county Indiana, who died Jan. 15, 1897. She
was the mother of seven children, six boys and one girl. She leaves to mourn
her departure six boys, A. [braham] W. [esley] and W. [alter] Henderson, of Siam; N. [athan] A. [ndrew] and [Edward]
D.[aniel] Henderson, of Bedford; W. Henderson, of Sheridan, Wy. and G. [eorge] F. Henderson, of Cuba, Ill. She had twenty-seven grand
children and three great grand children. Her daughter, Olive preceded her Feb. 16, 1875.
Father
and mother Henderson united with the congregation of the Church of Christ at
Siam in 1877 and remained faithful members until their deaths.
The
above obituary was handed to the writer by the relatives of the deceased the day
of the funeral which was held Feb. 11,1906 at one o'clock, in the Siam church
in the presence of a large gathering of relatives and friends. The following
scripture formed the basis of thought for the sermon: "Blessed are the
dead that die in the Lord from henceforth, yea, saith the Spirit, that they may
rest from their labors; and their works do follow them. —Rev. 14:13.
After the sermon the remains were kindly laid to rest in the Siam cemetery to
await the resurrection morn.
The
writer has been personally acquainted with the deceased nearly thirty years,
having baptized her and husband at the time indicated above, at a beautiful
[site?] near Siam. Since that time pleasant visits have been made to their
home, which are held in sacred memory. Deceased was a woman of strong religious
character, a believer in the divinity of the Bible, which was to her a source
of much comfort and which she often read and drank at the fountain of life. She
was a living monument of real goodness and mercy. Loved by all, hated by none. W.

Andrew Henderson, son of Isaac
[George] and Mary [Ann Griffee] Henderson, was born March 22, 1854, and died April 1, 1927, aged 73 years and
9 days. On August 21, 1881, Nathan Henderson was united in marriage to Sarah
Annetta Jared and to this union
four children were born. Mrs. Henderson departed from this life Dec. 26th, 1921, and three years later the
only daughter joined her mother in that home eternal on Dec. 29, 1924. Three
sons mourn the loss of their father: Fred [Albert] of Creston, Ia., [Francis] Elmer of Bedford, and Chas. of Lincoln, Nebr. There are also eight
grandchildren. In addition to this, three brothers, George Henderson of Cuba, Ill., Abraham of Siam, Ia., and Ed Henderson of Bedford. Many other relatives and friends will
miss their friend.
Funeral
services were held in the Wetmore chapel Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock,
conducted by Fred Coley, minister of the local Church of Christ.

Picture Show While On Christmas Visit.
Mrs.
Annette Henderson, long resident
of Bedford and vicinity, and who was visiting at the home of her son, Fred
Henderson, and her sister, Mrs.
D. [avid] R.[aymond] Freece [Susan Emma Jared], both of Creston, was taken suddenly ill at the
Willard theater Monday evening and died a few minutes later in the lobby of the
theater.
The
news of Mrs. Henderson's death
was shocking to the residents of this vicinity as only last Saturday while
talking with friends Mrs. Henderson expressed her thankfulness of retaining her good health. Soon after entering
the theater where she had gone with her relatives, she became ill and removed
to the lobby and a physician was called. Within a few minutes she died.
The
body was brought to Bedford Tuesday afternoon. The funeral services were held
at the Christian church, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. E. Lowe.
Burial was made in the Bedford cemetery.
Sarah
Annette Jared was born in Edgar
county, Illinois, May 8, 1854, and moved to Taylor county, Iowa, in 1877. She
was married to N. [athan] A. [ndrew] Henderson August 21, 1881, and lived on a farm near Bedford.
To this union were born three sons, Fred A. [lbert], of Creston, Iowa; Francis E. [lmer], of Bedford; Charles E., of Lincoln, Nebr.; and one daughter, Mary
Henderson Trumbo, of Bedford.
Besides her children and husband she leaves three brothers, John L. Jared,
R. [obert] B. [ruce] Jared and Delbert
Jared, all of Bedford, and two
sisters, Mrs. [Susan] Emma Freece of Creston, and Mrs. Ellen McKinley of Paris, Illinois, and six grandchildren to mourn her death.
Deceased
united with the Christian church in early life at Vermillion, Illinois, and has
been a willing worker for that cause during her life. The entire community
unites with the bereaved ones in this hour of sorrow.

Mrs.
Annette Henderson of Bedford,
while in Creston spending Christmas with her son, Fred [Albert] Henderson, and her sister, Mrs. D. [avid] R. [aymond]
Freece [Susan Emma Jared], was
taken suddenly ill about 7:15 o'clock Monday evening while at the Willard
theatre and passed away a few minutes later of heart failure, in the lobby of
the theatre building.
Mrs.
Henderson with relatives had gone to the theatre at 7:15 o'clock to attend the
first show. Soon after entering the theatre she became ill and was removed to
the lobby and a physician called. Death, however, occurred within a very few
minutes. Mrs. Henderson apparently had been in the best of health until taken
suddenly ill.
Deceased
was born May 8,1854, being 67 years of age at the time of her death. Besides
her husband, N. [athan] A. [ndrew] Henderson, of Bedford, she leaves to mourn her sudden
death, three sons and one daughter, Fred Henderson of Creston; Elmer Henderson
of Bedford; Charles Henderson of Lincoln, Nebr., and Mrs. Walter Trumbo [Mary]
of Bedford.
The
body was brought to Bedford on the afternoon train Tuesday and taken to the
home where she had left just a few days before in the best of health.
When
the news was flashed over the wires to relatives here announcing her sudden
death it cast a gloom over the entire city.
The
funeral was held at the Christian church yesterday afternoon, conducted by the
minister, E. E. Lowe, and the remains were laid to rest in the. Bedford
cemetery.
The
sympathy of the entire community goes out to the stricken family in the loss of
a mother—the best friend on earth. In the death of Mrs. Henderson the community loses a good woman.

Genevieve Emery, daughter of John
and Ella Emery, was born near
Westboro, Mo., July 22, 1902. She grew to womanhood on the farm near Westboro
and attended the Westboro grade and high school.
She
was married to Delvin Russell Henderson December 23, 1921 in Westboro, Mo. To them was born one daughter, Betty
Jean of the home.
She
united with the Methodist church at an early age.
The Hendersons made their home on a farm near Bedford most of
the time since 1935. About a year ago Mr. Henderson went to Richland, Wash., to work in a defense plant. Mrs. Henderson later went to
Richland, Wash., to join her husband, thinking it would benefit her health.
They returned to her mother’s home at Westboro, Mo., about two weeks ago and
were planning to locate soon on the Henderson farm west of Northboro, Ia. She entered the Hand hospital at
Shenandoah, on Oct. 20, where she passed away Oct. 22.
She
was preceded in death by her father, John Emery, and a brother, Frank Emery. Leaving to mourn her passing are her husband, Russell Henderson and daughter, Betty; her mother, Mrs. Ella Emery, and sister, Mrs. Gladys Greer of Oklahoma City. Mrs. Henderson was a devoted wife and mother.
Funeral
services were conducted in Westboro, Mo., Thursday, Oct. 25, by Rev. E.
Stewart, pastor at Northboro, assisted by Rev. O. M. Fabre of Westboro. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at
Shenandoah.
The
daughter, Betty, is a graduate

Last Rites for Nellie
Thompson In St Joseph
A
prayer service for Mrs. George R. [oy] (Nellie C. [lyde Walker]) Thompson of Bedford was held Sunday evening at
Shum-Novinger Funeral Home here conducted by Rev. Ray C. McCain. Funeral
services were held Mon., March 6, at 11:30 a.m. at Heaton – Bowman East
Chapel in St. Joseph, with Dr. Ernest White officiating. Mrs. Thompson died March 4 at Pearl Terrace Manor in Bedford
where she had been a resident for four years. Interment was at Memorial Park
Cemetery, St. Joseph.
Mrs.
Thompson was born in McLean
County in Kentucky, July 16, 1885.
Survivors
include two children, Harold I. Thompson, Calif., and Marjorie J. Caskey, Bedford; five grandchildren: Lt. Maurice R.
Caskey, Janet Caskey, Barbara Murren, Gary Thompson, Mary Lynn Thompson.
