M. S. Rogers

M. [elvin] S. [eymour] Rogers, 91 years old, one of the five remaining Civil War veterans of this community, passed away Tuesday night about nine o'clock, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Tommie Utter [Carrie Marie], northwest of town.

Mr. Rogers has been in failing health for several years. A few years ago he was in the hospital at St. Joseph, Mo., where he submitted to a serious operation. He apparently came through this operation surprisingly well and for a time appeared much better. The past year he has failed rapidly and has been able to come to town only a few times during the year. The past few days his strength gradually left him and the end came peacefully about nine o'clock Tuesday night.

Frank Akers, one of the other civil war comrades of the deceased, and himself past 90 years old, drove out with some friends and visited Mr. Rogers during the afternoon of his death. Mr. Akers says that he is not certain that his old comrade recognized him.

The funeral will be held Friday at two o'clock, in the Gravity Christian church and interment will be made in the family lot at Ladoga cemetery.
