Mrs. Anthony Schneider [Christena Dinghard] died at her home west of Blockton January 3, aged 78 years. The funeral services were held at the Platteville church Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. William Mercer. Interment was made in the Platteville cemetery. She is survived by six children.

Obituary
Christena Tangared was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, September 21st, 1838, and passed away at her home west of Blockton January 3, 1917, aged 78 years, 3 months and 12 days.
In 1855 she was united in marriage to Anthony Schneider. To this union eight children were born, six of whom are living and were present at the funeral services. The children surviving are Mrs. Mary Seville [Sebille], St. Joseph; Mrs. Lizzie Haun and Mrs. Emma Stoner, Sheridan; Mrs. Barbara Cordell, Athelstan; Charles, Blockton and Edward of Mount Ayr. The husband passed away several years ago and besides the children named there are twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren left to mourn her departure.
With her husband she came to Iowa over 40 years ago and settled on a farm west of town which has since been her home and where she passed away. Mrs. Schneider united with the Methodist church early in life and remained a member of that denomination throughout life.
The funeral services were held at the Platteville church Thursday afternoon at one o’clock and were largely attended, Rev. Wm. Mercer, pastor of the Blockton Methodist church, conducting the services. Interment was made in the Platteville cemetery.

Allie Gloshen Rites April 23
Funeral services for Allie William Gloshen, 81, of Corning, held April 23 at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Rev. J. Milton Kinney. Mr. Gloshen died April 19, 1967 at Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity.
Allie William Gloshen, known as "Al," was born Mar. 14, 1886.
He spent his lifetime in southwestern Iowa and eastern Nebraska. He farmed and enjoyed working with different types of machinery.

Long Illness takes Mrs. Wiley Vosburg
Mrs. Wiley [Eugene] Vosburg [Elizabeth Frances Hall], 48, a former resident of Bedford, died at her home in Clarinda Saturday, April 25, following an illness of two years. The funeral services were held in Clarinda Monday afternoon and burial was made in the Bedford cemetery.
Mrs. Vosburg, who will be remembered in Bedford as Miss Lizzie Hall, is survived by her husband; one daughter, Beth, a sophomore in the Clarinda High School and her mother, Mrs. Nettie Hall, also of Clarinda.
She graduated from the Bedford high school with the class of 1905.

Long Illness Takes Mrs. Wiley Vosburg
Mrs. Wiley Vosburg passed away at her home on north 19th street Saturday night at about 7:30 o’clock. Her illness had been patiently borne for about two years, her active life being continued when she was able to be up. The funeral services are being held this Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Pruitt Funeral Home, in charge of Dr. A. B. Thutt, pastor of the Presbyterian church. The burial is at Bedford cemetery. She is survived by her husband, daughter, Beth, and mother, Mrs. Nettie Hall. She was 48 years of age.

Mrs. Wiley Vosburg
Elizabeth Frances Hall, daughter of J. L. and Nettie Hall, was born at Kirkwood, Ill. October 11, 1887, and departed from this earthly life just at the close of the day Saturday, April 25, 1936.
The family left their Illinois home when she was but a young girl, moving to Bedford, Ia. She received her education at Bedford and gave of her service as schoolteacher. She taught in the rural schools of Taylor County for seven years.
She was married to Wiley Vosburg February 3, 1912. Even after their marriage, she chose to continue her work with the children teaching over a period of 16 or 17 years all together.
Mr. and Mrs. Vosburg took up their residence in Nebraska for three years, moving to Clarinda where they have made their home for 21 year, 15 of which were at the home on north 19th street where she bid her family goodbye last week.
She was devoted to her family. Her husband and daughter, Beth, mourn her loss, also her mother, Mrs. Nettie Hall of Clarinda, four brothers, Frank of Clarinda, Ralph of Louisburg, Mo., Roy of Seattle, Wash. and Glenn of Chicago, and a sister Mrs. Helen Bosley of Clarinda. She made friends easily, and was loved by all who made her acquaintance. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and active in the Royal Neighbors of America.
The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Monday afternoon, her pastor, Dr. A. B. Thutt, being in charge. Pallbearers were Arthur Larson, F. R. Finley, Earl Newton, Fred Gustafson, Paul Hazelbaker and Lyle M. Cassat. After the service, the body was taken to Bedford where burial was made at the Fairview cemetery.

L. S. Thompson of Bedford was in Hopkins Friday to attend the funeral services of his brother-in-law, F. [rank] O. [rivilla] Black, 64, who died Wednesday, April 22. He had been ill for some time. Surviving are his wife [Eliza J.], a sister of Mr. Thompson, and their one son.

Obituary – Mrs. Mattie Landis
Mattie Ellen Robinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George F. [redrick] Robinson [Mary Elizabeth Snyder], was born in Stark County, Ill., Sept. 25, 1875 and died at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Feb. 9, 1954, at the age of 78 years, four months, 14 days.
She came to Taylor County, Iowa, when she was only five years of age with the family in a covered wagon. Here she spent the remainder of her life, except one year in Boise, Idaho.
In 1898 she was married to Abe R. Landis. They made their home in this community and Mrs. Landis participated in various neighborhood clubs. She also participated in contests sponsored by fairs and other organizations. In early life she became a member of the Church of Christ at Berea and later transferred her church membership to the Christian church in Bedford. She was among those old settlers who were honored at the Christian church October 25.
Mrs. Landis was one of ten children. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Rose Neumeyer and Vina Mae Robinson; one brother, (infant) Frank.
She leaves her husband, Abe R. Landis; three brothers, William H. Robinson of Bedford, Archie Oren Robinson of Anderson, Ind., George LeRoy Robinson of Omaha; three sisters, Basie J. Mincks of Long Beach, Calif., Gracie M. Beson Braam of Des Moines, Mary Edith Snyder of Clarinda.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Benj. R. Hollis at the Wetmore Funeral Home, Friday, Feb. 12. Burial in Fairview cemetery.

Funeral services for Agnes Elaine Freemyer, 63, of Bedford, held April 22 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home here, were conducted by Rev. James Nelson. Miss Freemyer died April 19, 1981 in Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. Interment was at Athelstan Cemetery, Athelstan, Iowa.

Elaine Freemyer, 63, Last Rites Were Held April 22
Funeral services for Agnes Elaine Freemyer, 63, formerly of Bedford, held April 22 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home here, were conducted by Rev. James Nelson. Miss Freemyer died April 19, 1981 in Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Interment was at Athelstan Cemetery, Athelstan, Iowa.
Agnes Elaine Freemyer, daughter of [Joshua] Roland and Zola [Campbell] Freemyer, was born at Bedford, Iowa, November 26, 1917.
She lived in Taylor County, Iowa and grew to maturity in the Bedford area, where she attended public school and the First Baptist Church. She was also a resident of Albert Lea, Minnesota for five years.
She was a member of the National 17er's Club of which she was an officer.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, one niece, Marilyn Freemyer, and one nephew, Kenneth Besco.
Left to cherish her memory are three brothers: Truman, of Farragut, Iowa; Elmer, of Loveland, Colorado; Leo, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; and one sister, Louise Besco of Albert Lea, Minnesota.
She was a kind and considerate sister and a devoted aunt and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Hold Last Rites For Mrs. B. F. Miller
Funeral services for Mrs. B. [enjamin] F. [ranklin] Miller were held at the Walker-Shum Funeral Home Thursday afternoon, April 26, conducted by Rev. O. H. Hallgrimson. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery.
Agnes Jane Stewart was born in Adams County, Iowa, April 9, 1867, being aged 73 years, 15 days at the time of her death on Tuesday, April 24, at the Municipal Hospital in Clarinda.
On March 29, 1890, she was married to B. [enjamin] F. [ranklin] Miller. To them were born four sons: [Benjamin] Roy Miller of Hopkins, Port [land] I. [saiah] Miller of Gravity, John Arthur Miller of Clearfield, and Rolly F. [ranklin] Miller of Bedford. All of her life was spent in Adams and Taylor counties.
She is survived by her husband and four sons. Also by three sisters, Mrs. Edna Bird and Mrs. C. C. Buzzard of Bedford, Mrs. Ruth Mason of Leon; one brother, Sam Stewart of Canada; nineteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Nine of her grandchildren are in the armed forces. She was a good wife and mother and a devout Christian.

A. A. Anderson
Albert Alonzo Anderson, son of James [E.] and Mary [Haun] Anderson, was born February 13, 1868, in Mason Township, Taylor County, Iowa, and died at the Municipal Hospital in Clarinda, November 18, 1945 at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 5 days. His entire life was lived in Taylor County, many years of which he resided in New Market.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the Masonic Lodge of New Market for 33 years and was treasurer of that order for 28 years. He also was a member of IOOF Lodge in Bedford for years.
He was one of seven children. Survivors are Mrs. Nora Larsen of Clearfield, Mrs. Cora Eppers of Conway, Oliver Anderson of Conway, and Mrs. Minnie Spring of Corning. His parents and two brothers, Thomas and Oscar, preceded him in death. He also leaves to mourn his passing, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Nellie Anderson of Bedford and eleven nieces and nephews. He was cared for by Fred Henderson of New Market for twenty years.
The funeral services were held at the Walker-Shum Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. O. H. Hallgrimson. Burial was in the Conway cemetery, with the Masonic Lodge of New Market in charge.

Mrs. Linnie Howe, Former Resident, Dies
Mrs. Linnie Howe, a resident of Bedford for many years, died Saturday, December 15, at the home of her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jean [Carlyle] Hoff in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
Mr. and Mrs. Hoff accompanied the body to Bedford, funeral services being held this afternoon, Thursday, at the Walker-Shum Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. O. H. Hallgrimson. The body was placed in the Mausoleum in the Fairview cemetery.
Linnie Maude Schneider was born December 28. 1867, in Francisville, Indiana, the youngest of nine children, all of whom preceded her in death.
For fourteen years she taught in the schools of Indiana, where she was a pioneer in the advancement of primary education.
In 1900 she came to Taylor County, Iowa and on April 12, 1904, was married to Edward J. [efferson] Howe of Clayton Township. In 1920 they moved to Bedford. It was here that Mr. Howe passed away March 26, 1926. For the last three and a half years Mrs. Howe lived with her daughter and family.
She had been in failing health the past year.
All of her life she was active in the Baptist church and for many years was teacher of the Gleaners class of the local church.
She is survived by her daughter, Gayle and husband, three grandchildren, Peter, Marilyn [Gayle] and Sylvia Hoff, all of Fergus Falls; six nieces and nephews; one of whom, Edgar [Howe] Mitchell, lives in Bedford.

H. Earl Moore, 57, Dies At Home Here
H. [arry] Earl Moore, 57, died at his home in Bedford Monday morning following a long illness.
The funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. L. Hufstader. Burial was in the Bedford cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Henry Moore, who is in the armed forces overseas; and by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Thelma Moore, who has been in the home during his last illness.
Mr. Moore was a clerk in the Paschal Clothing Store in Bedford for many years before his last illness.

Mary Helen Moore Last Rites Held Here Tuesday
Graveside services for Mrs. Harry Earl (Mary Helen) [Long] Moore, 85, of Mission Hills, Calif., a native of Bedford, were held Tuesday, July 3, at Bedford cemetery, with Carl Cummings officiating. Mrs. Moore died June 27 at Glendale Community Hospital, Glendale, Calif.
Memorial services were held at Utter McKinley in Mission Hills conducted by Rev. Charles W. Elswick.
After the death of her husband, Mrs. Moore moved to California. She lived in Glendale and worked at WebbŐs Department Store for 15 years. After retiring she made her home with her son, Henry.
She was an active member of the Devonshire Christian Church where she leaves many loving friends.
Her survivors include her son, Henry, and his wife, Thelma, of Mission Hills.

Walter Martin, 73, Dies In Arizona
Funeral services will be held today (Thurs.) for Walter Jacob Martin, 73, in Wickenburg, Arizona. Mr. Martin died in Wickenburg July 16.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Mae Zeluf Martin; two sons, Robert and Gordon; two daughters, Betty and Shirley; brother, W. [illiam] C. [arlos] (Bill) Martin, and sister, Mrs. Roscoe (Luella) Dunn, both of Bedford.

Mrs. Dick Fuller Dies Here Friday
Mrs. H. [erbert] F. "Dick" Fuller, who had been in ill health for several years, died at her home in Bedford at 10:30 a. m. Friday, February 20.
The funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home in Bedford at 10:30 a. m., Sunday, February 22, conducted by Rev. A. Douglass Steffenson. The body was then taken to the Beardsley Funeral Home in Chariton, Iowa, where services were held at 1:30 p. m., conducted by the Christian minister of that city. Burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
Rhoda Ellen Cottrell was born in Wapello County, Iowa, March 14, 1867, being aged 74 years, 11 months and 6 days at the time of her death. She was one of a family of eight children, four girls and four boys. Three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.
On October 11, 1887 she was married to Mr. H. [erbert] F. Fuller. To them was born one son, Clell [Oren].
She was a member of the Christian church for many years. She had been a resident of Bedford the past thirty-two years, where she and her husband had been in the restaurant business practically all of that time.
She is survived by her husband; her son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Clell Fuller of Creston; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one brother.

Mrs. Ernest Cooper Dies In Kansas City
Chas. M. Mason received word Wednesday of the death of his sister, Mrs. Ernest Cooper at her home in Kansas City. She had been in ill health for several years. She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Ernestine.
Mrs. Cooper is a former resident of Bedford and will be remembered here as Miss Minnie McMillin.
Mr. Mason went to Kansas City today to be present for the last rites, which were held this afternoon.

Egleston Rites Held In Lenox May 15th
Roy H. [arrison] Egleston, son of Benjamin H. and Ida [Mary] Cole Egleston, was born on a farm near Carbon, Iowa, May 3, 1888. He passed from this life May 12, 1958 at his home west of Sharpsburg, Iowa, at the age of 70 years and 9 days, after a long illness. He had farmed in Adams and Taylor County all his life.
He was united in marriage to Verdie Sanders in Adams County April 13, 1909. To this marriage three children were born: Lester Egleston of Portland, Oregon, Marvin of West Des Moines and Emma Lou [isa] (Mrs. Cleo Roberts) of Vancouver, Wash.
Besides his wife and children, he leaves to mourn one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Zuber of Estacada, Oregon, five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter, a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
He was a devoted husband and father, and was always ready to help his friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Vera Gold Died Thursday, Burial Sun.
Mrs. Pink Gold of Gravity died Thursday, August 7, at Municipal Hospital in Clarinda after an illness of several months.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Gravity Sunday afternoon, August 10, with Rev. Darwin Damewood officiating. Burial at Gravity.
Vera Gold, daughter of John [Searl] and Fannie [Walker] Nevius, was born near Coin, Page County, Iowa, July 1, 1889, and passed away at the age of 69 years, one month, six days.
She moved with her parents to Taylor County near Gravity when a small child and spent most of her life there with the exception of a few years near Conway.
She united with the Methodist church when very young and remained faithful to her church and God.
On September 16, 1908 she was married to Pink Joseph Gold. To them two sons were born: Dwight N., who died in infancy and Carl L. [eon] of Tacoma, Washington.
She taught in the rural schools many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge of Gravity and was faithful to both organizations.
She leaves to mourn her passing: her son, Carl L. [eon] Gold of Tacoma, Wash.; three grandchildren: Phyllis Burmeister of East Riverton, New Jersey, Galen Gold of Tacoma, Washington and Richard Gold of Sharpsburg; three great grandchildren, Steven, Alan and Randall Burmeister; one sister, Mrs. Kate Perkins of Burbank, Calif.; one brother, Carl Nevius of Los Angeles; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Retta Nevius of Fremont, Nebr., who cared for Mrs. Gold during her last illness.

Vernie Gold Rites At Gravity Church
Last rites for Vernie Gold of Gravity were held at the Christian church there Wednesday afternoon, July 23, conducted by Rev. William Cleelon of Seymour, Iowa. Burial in Washington cemetery at Gravity.
Vernon Jesse Gold, son of John and Emeline [Jacobs] Gold, was born near Marion, Ind., April 11, 1887. Other members of the family consisted of five brothers: Johnnie, Charley, Walter, [James] Anson and Orville and one sister, Vesta Beadel. Only two of the brothers, Johnnie and Orville, survive.
When a small boy he moved to Missouri with his parents in a covered wagon, residing for a short time near the small town of Athelstan. Later he went to Lenox, where he spent the greater part of his young life.
He was married to Mary Ellen Herring on April 7, 1909. To them were born four children: Drexel of Bedford, Geraldine Ballew of Corydon, Vernon Jr., of Seymour, Byron, who passed away in infancy.
Vernon spent most of his life farming near Gravity and was a member of Oak Hill Church. Later he purchased a farm near Seymour, Iowa and while there had his church letter transferred to the first Baptist Church of Seymour.
He recently purchased a home in Gravity, where he was in retirement until he passed away on Sunday, July 20.
Surviving with his companion and three children are three grandchildren.

Mrs. John S. Nevius Dies At Home Here
Mrs. John S. [earl] Nevius died at her home in Bedford Friday, July 26, after having been ill for several months.
The funeral services were held at the Bedford Methodist Church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. Douglas Steffenson. Burial was in the Gravity cemetery, the Bedford O. E. S. chapter giving their service at the grave.
Fannie A. Walker was born in Fulton County, Ill., Dec. 1, 1866 and moved to Page County when young. She was educated in that county and taught in the rural schools for two years. In January 1887 she was married to John S. [earl] Nevius at Clarinda.
To them were born five children, four of whom with the husband survive. They are Mrs. Pink Gold [Vera] of Conway, Mrs. Clyde Perkins [Kate] of Sidney, Guy E. Nevius of Hamburg, and Dr. Carl W. Nevius of Council Bluffs. The other son, Floyd Nevius of Fremont, Nebr., preceded his mother in death a year ago. There are eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mrs. Nevius was a member of the Bedford Methodist church, of the Nineteenth Century Club and was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 30, 1985, at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford for Susie Herring. She died Friday, September 27, in Bedford. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery. Rev. Ted DeHass was the minister.
Susie [Susan] Crystal Herring, daughter of Jesse Ridenour and Nancy [Charlotte Maxwell] Ridenour was born May 10, 1910 in Nodaway County, Missouri. She grew to maturity near Bedford where she attended the public schools.
On July 3, 1931, she was united in marriage to Erve L. [awrence] Herring at Corning, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born, Mrs. Robert (Mary Lee) Thompson of Davenport, Iowa and Mrs. Royal (Karen Kaye) Booker of Elmwood, Tennessee.
They lived most of their married life in the Bedford area and were engaged in farming.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erve; three brothers, Delbert, Rolla, and Orville Ridenour; three sisters, Mable Wolf, Myrtle Sobbing, and Elsie Fearnot.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Mary and husband Robert Thompson, Karen and husband Royal Booker, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one sister, Pearl Orr of Martinez, California, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Susie was a member of the First Baptist church of Bedford.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family requests memorial gifts to be given to the American Cancer Society or to the Memorial Fund at the First Baptist Church of Bedford.

D. W. Herring, 74, Dies In Omaha
D. W. Herring, 74, a resident of the Gravity community for many years, died in an Omaha hospital Monday, March 16, where he submitted to a major operation several weeks previous.
The funeral services were held in Corning Thursday afternoon, March 19, conducted by Rev. Howard Congdon. Burial was in the Prairie Rose cemetery.
Douglas Winfield Herring, son of John and Mary [Jane Kerns] Herring, was born in Galesburg, Ill., Nov. 14, [1861]. He came to Taylor County when a young man, locating on a farm near Gravity. He was married to Miss Rhoda Elizabeth Posten, Oct. 18, 1883. To them nine children were born, the living children being Harry [Gilbert] Herring, Mrs. [Franklin] Dean Fleming [Bertha Fern], Mrs. Della Powell, and Mrs. Harry Sickler [Lois], all of Corning; Mrs. Vernon [Jesse] Gold [Mary Ellen] of Gravity; and Mrs. Raymond Murdock [Bessie May] of Clearfield. The mother and three children, Bertie, Roscoe and Leo, preceded their father in death. The mother died December 4, 1930. All of the living children were with him during his last days and all attended the funeral except one, daughter, Mrs. Murdock, who was taken to a hospital in St. Joseph seriously ill just before the featherŐs death. She had been able to visit him during his illness, however.
Mr. Herring was married to Mrs. Nellie [Weston] Barnett, May 3, 1932, who remained with him in the hospital as long as her health permitted. She is now quite ill. Mr. Herring is also survived by a brother Arthur Herring of Gravity, and a half-brother, Fred Herring of Thayer, Nebr.
The Herring family moved to Corning seventeen years ago, where Mr. Herring has been actively engaged in the real estate and insurance business. He has been active in church work having taught an adult Sunday school class in the Federated church for a number of years until he accepted the position as Supt. of the School. Early in life he united with the Christian church but since living in Corning has been a loyal faithful member of the Federated Church.

Services Are Held For Harry Herring
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in Corning for Harry G. [ilbert] Herring, who died in Rosary Hospital there Oct. 4. Conducted by Rev. F. H. Cowles of Bedford, the services were held in the Rolland Funeral Home with burial in Prairie Rose cemetery.
The son of Douglas [Winfield] and Rhoda [Elizabeth Posten] Herring, he was born in Taylor County June 12, 1884. He was 68 years, six months and 23 days old at the time of his death.
On April 18, 1906, he was united in marriage to Lula Foster at Corning, Iowa. To this union seven children were born.
He is survived by his wife, five sons and one daughter, Erve Herring of Bedford, Mrs. Leola Elwood of Red Oak, Gene and Glen of Corning, Francis Herring of Red Oak, Donald Herring of Corning.
He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and five sisters, Mrs. Bessie Murdock of Le Mars, Mrs. Della Powell of Los Angeles, Mrs. Mayme Gold of Seymour, Iowa, Mrs. Bertha Fleming of Gravity, Mrs. Lois Sickler of Corning.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a son, Floyd Elmer, who passed away Oct. 9, 1943.
Mr. Herring spent his entire life in Taylor and Adams counties.
