Bruce Williamson Died Here Sunday
Bruce [Alonzo] Williamson, 79, a resident for many years of the Bedford community, died here Sunday, February 28, after a long illness.
Funeral services were held at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Service Home on Madison Street, Tuesday afternoon, March first. Rev. A. V. hart of Hopkins officiated. Burial was in the Gravity cemetery.

Roy Osburn Died Here Monday Night
Roy Osburn, 80, a resident of rural Bedford east of town, died about midnight Monday, February 29 after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Service Home on Madison Street at two oÕclock, Thursday afternoon, March 3. Rev. Colvin Caughey of the Baptist Church will officiate. Burial in Fairview cemetery.
He is survived by a sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hazel [Minnie] of Bedford; three brothers and their families, Walter Osburn and E. [mmett] L.[loyd] of Bedford, F. [rancis] I. [rvin] Osburn of Auburn, Iowa.

Mrs. W. F. Taylor Rites In Bedford
Last rites for Mrs. W. [illiam] F. Taylor were held at the Shum-Novinger funeral Service Home on State Street, Friday afternoon, with Rev. Walter Ortmann officiating. Interment in Fairview cemetery, Bedford.
Alvira [Elvira] Mable Randall, daughter of Edgar and Helen Dopp Randall, was born June 25, 1884 at Burlington, Iowa and died at Municipal Hospital in Clarinda, February 23, 1960 at the age of 75 years, seven months and 28 days.
She was married in 1904 at Bedford to W. [illiam] F. ÒColonelÓ Taylor and they had always made their home in and near Bedford. They were the parents of seven children, three daughters and four sons, all of whom survive with the exception of Ivan, who died in infancy. The other children are Mrs. Dortha Williams, Omaha; Mrs. Fern Stowell, Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Edna Bumgardner, Moses Lake, Wash.; Donald Taylor, Warden, Wash.; Marvin Taylor, Spainard, Alaska; Glen Taylor, Sheridan, Mo.
Mr. Taylor also survives, but was unable to come for the last rites on account of his illness. He is being cared for in Portland, Oregon. There are several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ab Carlson Rites Held At Gravity
Abner Carl Carlson, son of Hilma and Carl August Carlson, was born June 26, 1887 in Dow City, Iowa and passed away at his home in Gravity, Monday, February 22, 1960.
On June 22, 1921, he was united in marriage to Frances Hargadin of Gravity and to this union four children were born. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Carlson moved to Sioux City, where they resided for 25 years. In 1950 they moved back to Gravity, where they have lived until his death.
For the past four years, Mr. Carlson has suffered paralysis from a stroke. Throughout his suffering he has radiated hope and patience, and remained constantly devoted to his wife, family and friends who cared for him in his illness.
Mr. Carlson had one sister, Mrs. Ellen Becklund, who preceded him in death.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Frances Carlson; three sons, Clifford Carlson of Denver, Colo.; Norman Carlson of Mexico City, Mexico; Richard Carlson of Compton, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Clark of Cleveland, Ohio; four brothers, William Carlson and Walter Carlson of Sioux City; Robert Carlson of Mesa, Arizona; Clarence D. Carlson of Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Muff of Sioux City; ten grandsons, two granddaughters.
The funeral service was held at the Gravity Methodist church Thursday, February 25 at two p. m. Interment in Gravity cemetery. Rev. Frank L. Greenwood conducted the service.

Mrs. Amelia Stoner Rites In Grant City
Mrs. Amelia Stoner, a long time resident of Sheridan, Mo., and community, died Thursday, February 25 at the Wallin Nursing Home in Clearmont, Mo., where she had spent the past two and a half years.
Funeral services were held at the Prugh Funeral Home in Grant City, Mo., with Rev. L. B. Day of Maryville officiating. Burial in the Sheridan cemetery.
Amelia Schneider, daughter of Anthony and Christena [Christiana Dinghard] Schneider, was born August 6, 1866 at Pekin, [Tazewell County] Illinois, and passed away at the age of 93 years, six months, 19 days.
On March 1, 1885 she was united in marriage to Thomas Byron Stoner and to this union seven children were born as follows: Anthony Amos, deceased; Orpha Winemiller, deceased; Percy Johnson Stoner, Grant City, Mo.; Mrs. Edna Turner, Sheridan; Mrs. Ethel M. Wells, deceased; Mrs. Esther A. Blake, Topeka, Kans.; Virgil B. Stoner, Sheridan.
She leaves to mourn her loss the four living children, three sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Stoner was a member of the Sheridan Christian church.

E. M. Schneider
Edward Morgan Schneider, son of Anthony and Christena [Dinghard] Schneider, was born October 16, 1875, and died at his home east of Bedford Saturday, October 14, 1944 at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 28 days.
He was born in a log cabin near his present home. At the age of eight he moved to his present home, where he spent his entire life with the exception of four years.
On May 7, 1911 he was married to Mattie Pearl Wildman. To them three children were born, two sons, Oakley and Raymond, and one daughter, Myrtle Irene.
He is survived by his wife, sons, daughter, and one granddaughter, Phyllis Rae. Also by two sisters, Mrs. Amelia Stoner and Mrs. Elizabeth Haun of Sheridan, Mo., and one brother, Chas. Schneider of Sidney, Iowa.
He was a kind and loving husband and father, honored and loved by his family, and highly respected by all who knew him.
The funeral services were held at the Platteville church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. L. Hufstader. Burial was in the Platteville cemetery.

Mrs. [Mattie] Pearl [Wildman] Schneider of Bedford died Tuesday in Municipal Hospital, Clarinda. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Survivors include sons, Oakley and Raymond, and a daughter, Mrs. Robert Terbell [Myrtle Irene].

Obituary
Amos Stoner
Amos Stoner, who has been living with his daughter, Mrs. Clara Larison in south Bedford, died last Saturday night, after several weeks illness, due largely to the infirmities of age.
Funeral services were held from the home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. C. Hatcher. Interment was in the Bedford cemetery.
Deceased had been a resident of the county nearly forty years, settling first in Ross Township and later living near Conway.
Amos Stoner was born in Logan County, Ohio, October 16, 1834, and was aged 81 years, 1 month and 18 days at the time of his death.
He was married to Miss Helen Smither, of Raleigh, Mo., February 2, 1859, and to this union five children were born, three of whom are still living. They are Mrs. Clara Larison of Bedford, Mrs. Wm. Straight of Jackson Township, and Byron Stoner, near Sheridan, Mo. These, with 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, are left to mourn his loss. Mrs. Stoner died April 21, 1906.

Claude L. Stout, 62, Died Monday, Feb. 29
Claude L. Stout, 62, president of the Commercial Savings Bank in Colorado Springs, Colo., died in a hospital there Monday, February 29, with a heart ailment. Last rites and burial were there Wednesday afternoon.
He is survived by his wife, three married sons and their families and by one brother, Harry Stout, of Gravity.

Michael Moore Is Traffic Fatality
Michael Moore, two-year-old son of Navy Chief Petty Officer and Mrs. Max Moore of Imperial Beach, Calif., was struck by a car on Wednesday, February 17 and died of head injuries the following Saturday, according to word received by relatives and friends in Bedford. The Moores are former residents of Bedford, Mrs. Moore being Miss Maxine Reed before her marriage.
The little fellow was playing near his home when he dashed in front of a car. His death occurred in the Chula Vista Community hospital.

Mrs. J. P. Flick Dies At Home Here
Mrs. J. [ames] P. [atton] Flick, a resident of Bedford for many years, died Sunday, May 20, after having been in failing health for several years.
The funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. L. Hufstader. Burial was in the Bedford cemetery.
Mary Elizabeth Sadlier was born in Wisconsin on April 1, 1858, but spent her childhood in Ohio. After her marriage to Joshua Griffin, she lived in Washington, D. C., where her husband was employed in the Bureau of Printing and Engraving. Following her husbandÕs death, she was married to James Patton Flick in 1890 and came to Bedford to make her home.
She was reared in the Catholic Church, and while she did not affiliate with any church in Bedford, she was active in the Ladies Aid of the Methodist Church, for many years as its treasurer.
Mrs. Flick was a charter member of the Nineteenth Century Club and of the Bedford chapter of the Eastern Star, of which organization she was a past Worthy Matron. She was active in the WomenÕs Relief Corps, the Civic League, and the WomenÕs Cemetery Association. She was appointed to the board of the Bedford Public Library and served until her failing health necessitated retirement from active participation in community affairs.
Mrs. Flick is survived by a number of nieces and nephews residing in Ohio and by the children and grandchildren of her late husband, James P. [atton] Flick, who preceded her in death in January 1929.

R. [ichmond] B. Westfall was born at Moravia, New York, Dec. 24, 1855, and died at his home in Ames, Iowa, March 21, 1910, age 55 years, 4 months and 27 days. On Dec. 25, 1881, he was united in marriage to Miss Della Wallace, and to this union there were born three sons, two of whom preceded him to the home beyond, and he leaves one son here and his wife to mourn his departure. The funeral services were conducted at the home in Ames, Iowa, by Dr. Sessin and Rev. Minchern, after which the remains were brought to Bedford and laid to rest in the Lexington cemetery.

R. [ichmond] B. Westfall was born in Moravia, N. Y., Dec. 24, 1855 and died at his home in Ames, Ia., March 21. At the time of his death he was 55 years old. He was united in marriage to Miss Della Wallace, Dec. 25, 1881 and to this union three children were born, three sons, two of whom have preceded him to the grave. He leaves a wife and one son and a number of other relatives to mourn. The funeral services were held at the home in Ames, after which the body was brought to Bedford and laid to rest in Lexington cemetery, Tuesday afternoon.

R. B. Westfall – Mr. R. B. Westfall was born near Moravia, N. Y., on the 24th day of December 1855 and died in Ames, Iowa, the 21st day of March 1910, aged 55 years. He was married December 25th, 1882 to Miss Della J. Wallace at Axtell, Kansas. After living a few years in Kansas, they removed to Bedford, this state, where they resided until moving to Ames in December 1905. He followed the life of a farmer until coming to Ames where he was employed by the state on the college grounds. Services were held at the residence on Welch street Monday afternoon by Dr. O. H. Cessna, Chaplain I. S. C. and Rev. W. J. Minchin, pastor of the Congregational church. The body was taken to Bedford, the next morning, for in interment. A choir consisting of Mr. Hoffman, Miss Jones, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Reed, rendered the music.

Mrs. R. B. Westfall
Della J. Wallace was born in Taylor County, Iowa, May 2, 1862, and departed this life June 22, 1929, at the age of 67 years and 25 days. She was married to R.[ichmond] B. Westfall at Axtell, Kas., Dec. 25, 1882. To this union were born three sons, two having preceded her in death. One son, A. V. [ere] Westfall of Kansas City, Kas., survives her. Her husband, R. [ichmond] B. Westfall departed this life March 21, 1910, and she was making her home with her son in Kansas City, Kas., at the time of her death. Mrs. Westfall joined the Presbyterian Church of Bedford, Ia., Jan. 24, 1895, and later transferred her membership to the Congregational Church at Kansas City, of which she was a member at the time of her death. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. She will be missed not only by the members of the immediate family, but also by the many friends who learned to love and appreciate her as she humbly went about her God-given tasks in life.
Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Chapel, Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. F. McMican. Interment was made in Lexington cemetery.

Wm. Hale
The news was received here of the death of William A. [sbury] Hale, which occurred at Puyallup, Wash., March 17, but no further particulars have been received. He was for many years a resident of Bedford, being engaged in the barber business here. He was born in Illinois June 2, 1851, and came to Iowa in 1879. Nov. 24, 1881, he was married to Miss Letha [May] Houck. To them were born six children, five daughters and one son. Two daughters died in infancy. The relatives have the sympathy of all.

William A. Hale
William A. [sbury] Hale, a former resident of Bedford, died at Puyallup, Wash., March 17, 1910. William Hale was born in Illinois June 2, 1851, and came to Bedford in 1879. He was united in marriage to Letha M. [ay] Houck November 24, 1881. They were the parents of six children, four of whom are still living and reside in Bedford. They are Alice, Edna, Carrie, and Charles. Mr. Hale went to Washington about eleven years ago.

Last Rites Held April 20 For Charles E. Hale
Funeral services for Charles Edward Hale, 75, lifetime Bedford resident, were held April 20 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford with Carl Cummings officiating. Mr. Hale died April 18 at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Mo. Interment was at Bedford cemetery, Bedford.
Charles Edward Hale, Sr., son of the late William Asbury Hale and Letha May Houck, was born November 4, 1897, at Bedford, Iowa.
Charles lived his entire life in Bedford, where he attended Bedford grade and high school. Upon graduating from high school, he attended Iowa State College at Ames, Iowa, where he took a course in animal husbandry. He returned to Bedford where he began his career as a dairyman.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Bedford.
He was united in marriage to Cecile [Morris] Dowell in January 1934. To this union twin sons were born, Charles E. [dward] and William E. Hale.
He is survived by his twin sons, Charles of Bedford and William of Maryville, Mo.; two sisters, Miss Alice Hale, Bedford; Mrs. Carolyn Riffe, Mound City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Shirley, Sherri and Andrew Hale, Maryville, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Edith, Olive and Edna Hale.

Final Rites Held For Cecile Hale Mon., June 29
Funeral services for Cecile Ona Morris Hale, long time Bedford resident, were held Monday (June 29) at the Bedford Baptist Church with Rev. Leonard D. Wilson in charge. Mrs. Hale died at Clarinda Municipal Hospital June 26, 1964, at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 28 days. She had been in failing health for the past six years. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.
Included in the services was the following obituary:
Cecile Ona Morris Hale, daughter of the late William A. [lonzo] and Martha R.[osetta Freemyer] Morris, was born July 28, 1898, in Taylor County, Iowa.
She was united in marriage May 12, 1917 to Ernest L. [loyd] Dowell. To this union two daughters were born, Mrs. Glenn (Luella) Straight and Mrs. R.[obert] D. [ouglas] (Helen Ruth) Timberlake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, in May 1930.
Cecile moved her family to Bedford from Blockton in the fall of 1930. She was employed as a clerk in various business places in Bedford through the years.
In 1931, she joined the First Baptist Church at Bedford where she retained her membership until her death.
She was united in marriage to Charles E. [dward] Hale in January 1934. To this union twin sons were born, Charles E. [dward] and William E.
She is survived by her two daughters, Helen and Luella of Bedford; two sons, Charles of Bedford and William of Maryville, Mo.; two brothers, Harry Morris of Shenandoah, Ia., Paul Morris of Mound City, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Hans (Lucille) Meland of Ellendale, Minn.; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mrs. John Lester; two brothers, Carl Morris and Guy Morris.

Last Rites Held April 10 For Alice Hale, 92
Final rites for Miss Alice Hale, 92, of Bedford, long time kindergarten teacher here, were held April 10 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, conducted by Carl Cummings. Miss Hale died at Colonial Manor in Bedford April 8, 1975. Interment was at Bedford cemetery.
Miss Alice Hale, oldest child of William Asbury Hale and Letha [May] Houck Hale, was born November 9, 1882 at Clarinda, Ia.
The family moved to Bedford when Alice was an infant; most of her life was lived in Bedford.
She went through the grades and graduated from Bedford High School with the class of 1901.
Alice was a graduate of Iowa State TeachersÕ College at Cedar Falls. She supplemented her formal education with graduate work at Chicago University and the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Miss Hale taught school for 41 consecutive years in the Bedford Public Schools.
She started her service in the local system by teaching the fourth grade, moving by successive grades to become the kindergarten instructor, in which capacity she served until her retirement in 1948.
Three generations of Bedford children, estimated to be over 1500, have spent their important formative years under the guidance of Miss Hale.
Alice was proud of her native ancestry===when Bedford celebrated its centennial in 1953, and the following year, 1954, when the Methodist Church, of which her maternal grandmother, Eliza Jane Long, was a charter member, held its centennial anniversary.
Alice joined the church when quite young and held beautiful memories of her work in the church when she was active. She was a member of Chapter CU of the P. E. O. Sisterhood for 68 years, and a member of Iowa Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Edith, Olive and Edna, [and] one brother, Charles E. [dward] Hale.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Carolyn Riffe, St. Joseph, Mo., two nephews, Charles E. [dward] Hale, Bedford, and William E. Hale, Maryville, Mo.; two grand nieces, Shirley and Sherri Hale, one grand nephew, Andrew E. Hale, Maryville, Mo.; other relatives and many friends.

Carl Morris, 71, Dies In Des Moines
Carl Morris, 71, of Des Moines, died there Monday, December 12. He was a brother of Mrs. Cecile Hale of Bedford. The body was brought to Bedford Wednesday for funeral services at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home on State Street at two oÕclock Thursday afternoon, December 15. Burial in Athelstan cemetery.

Carl Morris Rites Here Last Week
Last rites for Carl Morris, who died unexpectedly in Des Moines on December 12, were held at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, Thursday afternoon. Burial was in the Athelstan cemetery.
Born at Athelstan, he had lived in Des Moines 35 years. On March 4, 1914 he was married to Miss Emmie Arnold, who survives. There are also 2 sisters, Mrs. Cecile Hale of Bedford and Mrs. Hans Meland [Lucille] of Ellendale, Minnesota; two brothers, Paul Morris of Nodaway and Harry Morris of Shenandoah.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1939 and his mother on November 8, 1960; also by a sister, Mrs. John Lester, and his brother, Guy Morris.

Dorothy Morris, 73, Last Rites Were Held February 19
Funeral services for Mrs. Paul (Dorothy Pearl) Morris, 73, of Mound City, Missouri, held February 19 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home, were conducted by Pastor Art Vail. Mrs. Morris died February 15 in BrownÕs Nursing Home, Oregon, Missouri. Interment was at the Athelstan Cemetery, Athelstan, Iowa.
Dorothy Pearl Morris, daughter of Paul Peterson and Martha Holcomb, was born in Fairmont, Minnesota, April 11, 1906.
She lived in Minnesota and later in Blockton, Iowa. Mrs. Morris was a member of the Blockton Christian Church.
On November 25, 1927 she was united in marriage to Paul O. Morris at Owatonna, Minnesota. To this union, four children were born. The family lived in Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Paul O. Morris at Mound City, Missouri; children, Pauline Holliway, Flint, Michigan; Barbara Laughlin, Lawrence, Kansas; Otis Morris, Marietta, Georgia; Beverly Boerner, Clear Lake, Iowa.
She was a kind, considerate and loving wife and mother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Sam Gant Died Sunday
Sam Gant, 89, died at his home west of Bedford Sunday at 10:35 p. m., after a lingering illness. His son, Roy, and daughter, Mrs. Delpha Pitman and her two sons, have lived with him and cared for him.
Mr. Gant was born in Mason Township, Taylor County, and has lived within a mile and a half of the home place his entire life. Another son, Frank, of Bakersburg, Okla., two grandsons, George Pitman, at home, and Lyle Pitman in army service, are additional survivors
