Death of Mrs. Frank Hindman

Died, at her home in Bedford, Tuesday, March 30, 1897, at 7:30 oclock a. m., Mrs. Mary Evaline Hindman, wife of Frank Hindman, aged 65 years, 11 months and 20 days.  Funeral services were held at the home at 9 oclock this morning, conducted by Rev. J. C. Lewis.  Interment was made at the Forest Grove cemetery.

The deceased was one of the best known of the pioneer women of Taylor County.  Her maiden name was Mary E. Husbands; she was born in Hancock County, Ind.  Her family came to Iowa in 1847, and in 1850, Dec. 17, she was united in marriage to Mr. Hindman who survives her.  Theirs was the first marriage ever solemnized in Taylor County.  They began housekeeping in Jefferson Township and in 1878 moved to Bedford where they have since lived.  There was born to them 11 children, 7 of whom, six boys and one girl, are still living, all of whom were at the funeral this morning.  J. A. Husbands of Fremont County, and J. E. Husbands, brothers of Mrs. Hindman were also at the funeral.

As stated, Mr. and Mrs. Hindman were among the pioneer settlers of Taylor County and the proverbial saying, their latch string hung on the outside of the door, was made by them a liberal reality.  Their home was the abode of true pioneer hospitality and many are there in the community who can testify to the many little acts of kindness received at the hands of this aged couple.  Mr. Hindman and his family have the sympathy of the community in the bereavement that has come to them.
