Mrs. Jessie Minor was taken to St. Joseph Friday on the advice of Dr. Geiger, who came up to see her. He gave no encouragement but said if it was possible for her to recover she would be much more likely to in a hospital where she could have the care of a specialist. At times she rested easier, but it was decided to bring her home Sunday, John Minor going down to assist her husband, his brother, on the homeward journey. They came in on number 2, since which time she has been exceedingly ill and no hopes are entertained for her recovery. The trip did not seem to worry her much or make her appreciably worse than she naturally would have been. Later: Mrs. Minor died this evening at 7:30. ---Blockton News

Obituary

The foregoing is from the Plainview, (Nebr.) Republican. Paul Nelson, deceased, was a resident of Taylor County for 25 years, and was well known to the older settlers.

Paul H. Nelson was born in Hardanger, Berganstift, Norway, March 27, 1829, and was married to Miss Dorthea Paulson May 3, 1850. To this union were born five children, two of whom have gone on before, one in infancy and the other in childhood. The three who survive are N. P. Nelson, of Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. C. M. Hall, of Lincoln, and Miss Mattie Nelson, of Plainview. Bro. Nelson and his bride sailed for the United States immediately after their marriage, being eleven weeks in crossing the Atlantic. They settled in Cambridge, Dane County, Wisconsin, afterward moving to Taylor County, Iowa, in 1858. In 1883 the family moved to Nebraska and settled on a homestead three and a half miles north of Plainview. In 1851, in Wisconsin, he entered into the blessed experience of a child of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He joined the Methodist Episcopal church at the same time, and has lived a consistent member thereof for fifty-three years. In August, 1862, when Abraham Lincoln called for more troops, and everything looked the darkest for Federal arms, Bro. Nelson enlisted in Company “F,” 29th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry, serving with distinction and honor his adopted country until August 1865, when he was regularly mustered out. For a number of years past he has been an invalid. During the winter just closed he was confined to his bed, and after much suffering, patiently borne, he departed this life, triumphant in Jesus Christ May 9th, 7 p. m., aged 75 years, 1 month, 12 days.”
