[Grubb, Colvin] Bedford Times-Republican Thursday February 20, 1908 p. 8 Obituary. Colvin Grubb was born March 13, 1828, in Harrison county, O., where be grew to manhood. On November 16, 1864 [1854], he was married to Emily Lewis, at Freeport, O. [hio], and to this union were born seven children—Adeline and Newton, of Pacific Junction; William and Clark, of Maloy; Eva [Jane], Jacob and Ellen. Two of them, Adeline Nendick, having previously died, leaving the remaining children, a loving companion, seventeen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a number of relatives and a host of friends to mourn his death. He moved with his wife and one child to Louisa county, Iowa, in 1866, and from there to Taylor county in 1877, on a farm about three and a half miles east of Conway, where his children grew to mature years, and where be resided until his death, which occurred February 9, 1908, having lived 79 years, 10 months and 26 days. He and his loving companion had lived happily together for over fifty-three years, and on November 16, 1904, they celebrated their golden wedding, which was a happy event in their lives. They were thoroughly devoted to each other, and in their old days never forgot the love and devotion that thrilled their hearts in youth when they took each other by the hand and pledged their faith until death should part them. He never belonged to any church for the reason that he thought that the people would expect too much of him and perhaps more than he would be able to live up to; but he was always found at church when able and always gave his support to the church. He was always glad to have the pastor call, and seldom permitted him to leave without inviting him to read the Scripture and to pray. His death was not unexpected, even to himself, and he expressed himself to his pastor and members of the family that he was ready to depart this life and be at rest. He was a pioneer of Taylor County, being among its oldest citizens. He was highly esteemed and greatly loved by his neighbors and fellow citizens, as his business relations with them were always pleasant and satisfactory. He was frank and honest, never having any trouble or lawsuit with anyone— a man of integrity and character. While like everyone, he was not without his faults, yet there were many things in his life that are pleasant to remember and worthy to pattern after. The whole community will deeply mourn his departure. The funeral services were conducted from the First M. E. church
in Conway, on Tuesday February 11, at 12 m. by Rev Jackson Gaddens, his pastor,
assisted by Rev. J. T. Hughes, a pioneer preacher and former pastor, in the
presence of a large concourse of relatives, neighbors and friends who were
present to pay a last tribute of respect to the deceased. After the funeral
service the mortal remains were laid in their last resting place in the Conway

[Hayworth, Amy Jeannette Norton] Bedford Times-Press Thursday May 30, 1985 p. 5 Services held May 16 for Amy Jeanette Hayworth Services for Amy Jeanette Hayworth, 62, were held May 16 at Lenox Christian Church with Pastor Jack Cutbirth officiating. Interment was at Conway Cemetery, Conway, Ia. Mrs. Hayworth died May 13, 1985 in Des Moines. Amy Jeannette Hayworth, daughter of Arval W. [ood] Norton and Florence I.[sabelle] Weller was born at Conway, Iowa December 3, 1922. She lived in Taylor, Page and Ringgold County and grew to maturity in Conway where she attended the public school and graduated with the class of 1940. She attended the Conway Methodist Church. On April 15, 1940 she was united in marriage to Ivan Dellano Hayworth at Worth, Missouri and they lived in Page, Ringgold, Mills, and Taylor Counties. To this union 11 children were born: Karon, Martha, Carole, Paul, Mary, Terry, Ellen, Dennis, Douglas, Timmie and James. She was employed by Lenox Community School for 12 1/2 years as a cook and head cook. She was preceded in death by her father, Arval and daughter Karon. Left to cherish her memory are mother, Belle Norton Barker and stepfather, Earnest Barker, husband Ivan D. Hayworth, children: Martha Morgan, Liscomb, Ia.; Carole Norris, Stuart, Ia.; Paul D. McBroom. She was a member of the Navy Mothers Club as adjutant and the Legion Auxiliary. She was a kind and considerate mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Clearfield Chronicle Thursday November 4, 1971 p. 4 Rites Saturday for Inza Hughes Funeral services for Inza Hughes, 91, of Conway were held at 2:00 P. M. Saturday at the Varner funeral home in Clearfield. Rev. Ron Kinzler officiated with burial in the Conway cemetery. Miss Hughes died at the Lenox nursing home on Wednesday. She had lived in the Conway community all of her life. Her only surviving relatives are a number of nieces and nephews. [Hughes, Inza] Bedford Times-Press Thursday November 4, 1971 p. 4 MRS. INZA HUGHES RITES OCTOBER 30 Funeral services for Inza Hughes, 91, formerly of Conway, were held at the Varner Funeral Home in Clearfield October 30. Mrs. Hughes died October 26, 1971. Interment was at the Conway Cemetery. Inza Hughes, daughter of Jeremiah and Amy Newton Hughes, was born Feb. 29, 1880 in Taylor County, Iowa. She was the last surviving member of a family of ten children, four of whom died in infancy. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, William, Isaac and Ellis and two sisters, Isabelle Hughes and Eva McGee. She attended elementary school and high school in Conway and Western Normal College in Shenandoah. At, an early age she was baptized and received into membership of the Conway Methodist Church, where her father was pastor. Much of her adult life was spent in loving and devoted dare of her parents. Ill health forced her to leave her home in 1966. Since that time she had resided in the Lenox Nursing Home. Her survivors include: a niece, Doris Hughes O'Dell of Bedford; two nephews, Glenn Hughes of Lenox, and Dale Hughes of Omaha; and other nieces and nephews. Bedford Times-Republican Monday November 1, 1920 p. 3 Mrs. J. T Hughes Dead Mrs. Hughes, wife of the late Rev. J. [eremiah] T. Hughes of Conway died at her home in that city on last Thursday at 10:00 o'clock She was in her 83 year. Mrs. Hughes has been quite poorly for some years and for several months past has been confined to her bed most of the time. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the new M. E. church. She had lived for many years in and near Conway and was well known by everyone in this vicinity. [Hughes, Amelia Amy Newton] Bedford Times-Republican Thursday November 4, 1920 p. 6 Obituary Mrs. Hughes [Amelia] Amy Newton Hughes was born at Waterloo, New Jersey, Jan. 31, 1837 and died at her home in Conway, Iowa, Oct. 28, 1920, aged 83 years, 8 months and 28 days, after an illness of several weeks. She was married to Jeremiah T. [imothy] Hughes, near Platteville, Iowa, April 30, 1861. To this union were born ten children, five of whom are dead. Those living are William, Isaac [Newton] and Inza, who reside in Taylor county, and Ellis Hughes and Eva Hughes-McGee who live in Oklahoma. Mrs. Hughes was the granddaughter of a Revolutionary soldier and an early settler in southwestern Iowa and while the wife of a Methodist minister of the Des Moines Conference, she lived at Mt. Ayr, Clarinda, Hopeville, Diagonal, Afton, Arispe, Bedford and Conway. When her husband gave up the active ministry she, with her family have resided near Conway ever since. She took quite an active part with her husband in church work and assisted him in many ways. Funeral services were held last Sunday in the Methodist church last Sunday and interment was made in the Conway cemetery. Bedford Times-Press Thursday January 15, 2003 CORDA LEOTTA LAMBLEY
Corda Leotta Lambley, 93, passed away on January 8, 2003, at her home in Wamego, Kansas. Corda was born on January 22, 1909 in the rural Pickering, Missouri area. She was the third of eight children born to her parents, Isaac Lee Sharr and Angie Armina Pugsley Sharr. Corda attended area rural schools, then while still in her teens began working as a housekeeper and children's companion for families in the Maryville, Missouri area. On St. Valentines Day, 1934, Corda was married to John James Lambley of Conway, Iowa. Following the wedding at Maryville, the couple began farming in the Conway area. Throughout their married life the couple remained on the farm, living first near Conway and Lenox, Iowa, then in 1951 moving to the rural Blockton, Iowa area. The couple observed their 50th wedding anniversary on February 14,1984, but because of concerns over friends and relatives traveling during winter weather chose to have the official celebration the following June. After the death of her husband, on April 9,1990, Corda moved to Wamego, Kansas to be close to her son, Dale and family. Throughout her adult life, Corda was an active member of the United Methodist Church and taught junior high and high school age Sunday school classes at the church at Blockton. Corda loved farm life and was an avid gardener. Following on the footsteps of her mother, she made excellent hand made quilts and occasionally used as quilt patterns, pictures drawn for her by children of the neighborhood. She particularly enjoyed being with children and young people and came to view many of those in the neighborhood as extended family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and through out her life maintained close attachments to and correspondence with family and many friends. Corda was proceeded in death by her husband, John; infant son, Johnnie Weldon; brother, Weldon Sharr, Bodfish, CA; sisters, Verda Thompson, Brideport, NE; Mildred Judd, Minetare, NE and Bonnie Fleming, Topeka, KS. She is survived by her son and spouse, Dale and Nellie Lambley, Paxico, KS; grandchildren, Angela Iseli, Riley, KS and William Lambley, Ft. Worth, TX; sisters Lona Vurpillat, Lyndon, KS; Becky Allard, Springfield, MO and Mary Birkenholz, Melvern, KS and many nieces and nephews and friends. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Wamego, KS. A short graveside service was held on January 11,2003 at 4:30 p.m. at the Conway, Iowa cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the United Methodist Church, Wamego; the Emergency Medical Response Unit, Blockton, IA or Homecare and Hospice of Manhattan. Services for John James Lambley, 79, were held at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Scott Marcum and Rev. Jerry Avise-Rouse. Burial was at Conway Cemetery. Mr. Lambley died April 19, 1990 at Blockton, Iowa. John James Lambley was born on the family farm near Conway, Iowa to William Fern and Edna Beal Lambley on June 18, 1910 where he attended school and grew to manhood. He was married to Corda [Leotta] Sharr on Valentine's Day February 14, 1934 at Maryville, Mo. The couple lived on farms in the Taylor County, Iowa area all their married life and moved to a farm near Blockton, Iowa in 1951. To this union was born a son, John Weldon, who died at birth and James Dale, who resides at Paxico, Ks. Preceding him in death were a son, grandson, brother Elton; parents, parents-in-law and three sisters-in-law. Left are his wife; son and wife Nellie; grandchildren Angie and Will Lambley of Paxico, Ks.; two sisters, Lela Lambley of Tekamah, Neb. and Florence Brown, Bedford; brothers-in-law, Bob Brown, Marty Vurpillat, Jesse Judd and Harold Thompson; four sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Redding, Iowa. John was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather; a sincere, honest, and hardworking man who loved the land and all nature. His home was his refuge, which he preferred not to leave, even in illness. He passed away in his favorite chair by the window where he spent so many hours. He greatly enjoyed the visits from his friends and neighbors and especially those of the neighbor children. He will be missed. Funeral service for Lela Mae Lambley was held Monday. Aug. 10, 1992 at Hamel- Peck-Pelan Funeral Home, Tekamah, Neb. with Rev. Charles A. Bailey officiating. Graveside service was held August 10 at the Conway, Iowa Cemetery with Carl Cummings officiating. Lela Mae Lambley was born to [William] Fern and Edna (Beal) Lambley on May 13, 1908 on a farm near Conway, Iowa. She spent her childhood on that farm, was confirmed in the Methodist Church at Conway and graduated from Conway High School. Lela married Quatin F. [rederick] Lambley of Ainsworth, Neb. on December 18, 1930 at Creston, Iowa. They moved to Tekamah, Neb. where they lived their entire married life. On the couple's 10th anniversary, they were blessed with the birth of a son. Lela was the epitome of a traditional homemaker, spending her time making a happy home for her husband and son, and making that home a special place to visit for her friends, relatives and eventually her five grandchildren. She was a member of the Methodist Church at Tekamah and the VFW Auxiliary at Conway, and she did volunteer work for the county election board. After the death of her husband in June of 1965, Lela continued to make Tekamah her home until failing health made it no longer possible. She moved to Birchwood Manor Nursing Home at North Bend in April of 1991 to be near her son and his family. She died at Birchwood Manor on August 7, 1992. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Lois Lambley of North Bend; four grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law, Bryce and Jeanene Lambley of Fremont, Kevin and Becky Lambley of Lincoln, Scott Lambley and Jason Lambley of North Bend; one granddaughter, Megan Lambley of North Bend; and four great grandchildren, Tyler, Kelsey, Aaron and Mallory; a sister, Florence Brown of Bedford, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Corda Lambley of Wamego, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Elton and John Lambley.
Bedford Times-Press Thursday April 6, 1950 [p. 1] Mrs. Carl Snyder Rites Wednesday Mrs. Carl Snyder died at her home in Bedford about noon Sunday after an illness of only a few hours. The funeral services were held at the Christian church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Ben W. Sinderson. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery. Florence Inez Keith, eldest daughter of Silas and Mary Jane [John] Keith, was born January 18, 1891 in Taylor County being aged 59 years, 2 months and 15 days at the time of her death. On Feb. 27, 1909, she was married to Carl A. [lexis] Snyder and to them seven children were born: Mrs. Doris Croy of Buffalo, New York; Mrs. Dorothy Nash of Parnell, Missouri; Mrs. Aneth Luchsinger of Alden, Minnesota; Lex Snyder of Parnell, Mo.; Harold Snyder of Diagonal; Carl Snyder Jr., of Clifton Forge, Virginia; Donald Snyder of the home. At the age of sixteen she united with the Christian Church in Bedford and was baptized by Rev. Edgar Price during his first ministry here. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Florence was a devoted wife and mother and all who knew her, know that her family was her life interest. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband and seven children; thirteen grandchildren; her mother; three sisters, Mrs. John Jared and Mrs. Clark Spencer of Bedford, Mrs. John Cheshire of Maryville; two brothers, Glade Keith and Theron Keith, both of Bedford. Funeral services for Mildred Spencer, age 96, who died at the Bedford Nursing and Rehab Center on Friday, May 21, 1999 were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 1999 at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford with Pastor Dena Vittorio officiating. Burial was held at the Fairview Cemetery. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford. Mildred Amanda Spencer was the fifth of six children of Silas and Mary Jane John Keith. She was born May 15, 1903 and died at the Bedford Nursing Home and Rehab Center on May 21, 1999 at the age of 96 years and six days. Mildred graduated from the Bedford School and on January 5, 1921 was married to Clark Roy Spencer. She and Clark lived for over 48 years on the family farm where he was born. Their only son, George Edwin was born on September 27, 1922. Upon their retirement in 1968 they moved to Bedford. Mildred was a long time member of the United Christian Presbyterian Church, the Order of Eastern Star, the Travel Club and the Republican Women. She was a Past Matron, and a Past Mother Advisor of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. She loved to travel, cook for her family, garden, play cards and socialize with her friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Mary Jane Keith; her five brothers and sisters, Florence Snyder, Minnie Jared Journey, Glade Keith, Theron Keith and Ruth Cheshire; husband Clark; son, George; and great great grandson, Derek Jackson. She is survived by her daughter in law, Wilma (Lee) of Bedford; a grandson, Dennis Spencer and wife Susan of Woodbridge, Connecticut; granddaughter, Jan Wilson and husband Jim of Bedford; seven great grandchildren, Jina (Wilson) Jackson and husband Dennis of Blockton; Christopher Spencer of Boston, Massachusetts; Jackie Wilson of Des Moines; Kate Spencer of North Hollywood, California; James Wilson of Bedford; Andrea Spencer and Joanna Spencer both of Woodbridge, Connecticut; and a great great grandchild, Devan Jackson of Blockton. She will always be remembered for her constant devotion to her family, her curiosity about life and her open arms for everyone.
