A. A. Newkirk
Amanda
Jane Bristow,
daughter of Samuel and Nancy Bristow,
was born in Jefferson County, Iowa, May 10, 1858, and died at the home
of her granddaughter Mrs. Harold Goforth in St. Joseph, Mo., Sunday, March 26, 1944, at the age
of 85 years, 10 months and 8 days. When a small child she moved with her parents to Taylor County,
where she grew to womanhood and taught in the rural schools.
She
united with the Church of Christ at the age of 18 and remained a faithful
member until her death. She
took an active part in all church work.
On
July 30, 1879, she was married to Albert Newkirk, who preceded her in death in January
1937.
To
them five children were born, Grace, who died in infancy, Mrs. Ruby Thompson, who died in 1939; Clyde Newkirk of Tacoma, Wash.; Roy Newkirk of Bedford and Carl Newkirk of Blockton. There are 15 grandchildren, two great
grandchildren and two brothers, Lon Bristow of Canada and Charles Bristow of California.
The
funeral services were held at the Christian Church Wednesday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. P. H. Peterson. Burial was in the Bedford cemetery. |

Cornell's
Father Dies At Maryville Friday
Peter
Cornell,
87, of Burlington Junction, Mo., died about 4 o'clock Friday afternoon
in Maryville, where he had been a patient five weeks.
Mr.
Cornell, who was born in 1856 in the state of New York, went to Burlington
Junction when a young man and had resided in or near there since that
time. He was a farmer and
carpenter.
He
was married January 1, 1885, to Miss Sarah Alice Webb, who died sixteen years ago in
February. He had been in
failing health the past five years.
He
is survived by four sons, Ray M. Cornell of Tarkio, Sgt. W. S. Cornell of Fort Sill, Okla.; Charles
W. Cornell of
Des Moines, a former Bedford resident and Taylor County sheriff; and Joseph W. Cornell of Maryville; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Sharp of Atchison, Kansas, and Mrs. Gertie Hamm of Bedford; thirteen grandchildren
and one great grandchild.
Funeral services
were conducted Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church in Burlington
Junction. Burial was in the Ohio Cemetery at Burlington
Junction. |

Obituary
Mrs.
Emma Ford
Emma
Campbell,
daughter of Enoch and Sally Campbell,
was born in Indiana, December 5, 1864, and lived to be 77 years and
11 months old.
She
moved, when eight years of age, with her parents, to Taylor County,
Iowa, where she resided nearly all of her remaining years.
She
united in membership at an early age with the Baptist Church at Mr.
Zion rural church, northwest of Athelstan, and later transferred her
membership to the Blockton Christian Church where she remained a loyal
worker until health prevented.
In
1883 she was united in marriage to Amos H. Ford. To this union were born three sons, R. [obert] O. [rr] of Blockton, H. Ward of St. Joseph, Mo., Wayne D. of Mt. Vernon, Wash.
Mrs.
Ford leaves to mourn her passing, the three sons and their wives; three
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie
Adams, of Ellston, Iowa, and Mrs.
Florence Maxfield,
of Boise, Idaho, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Christian Church in
Blockton by Rev. E. B. Stewart. Burial was made in the Blockton cemetery.

Mrs. Emma Ford Dies
Mrs. Emma Ford,
widow of the late Amos H. [enry] Ford,
died on Thursday evening, November 5 at her home in northeast Blockton.
Although in failing health for some time Mrs.
Ford had only been bedfast the past two weeks.
Mrs. Ford, daughter
of Enoch [Richard] and Sallie [Ann Sharp]
Campbell, was born in Indiana December 5, 1865 and moved with her parents
to Taylor County, Iowa, when eight years of age. She was married to Amos H. [enry] Ford in 1883 and had
lived in this vicinity since Mr. Ford died in 1927.
Mrs. Ford was the
mother of three sons, R. [obert] O. [rr]
Ford of Blockton, H.[enry] Ward Ford of St. Joseph, Mo., Wayne D. Ford of Mount Vernon,
Washington.
Beside the sons and their wives she is
survived by three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also two sisters, Mrs.
Mattie Adams of Ellston and Mrs.
Florence Maxfield of Boise, Idaho.
The funeral services were held at the Christian church Saturday
afternoon, November 7, conducted by Rev. E. B. Stewart. Burial was in Rose Hill
cemetery, Blockton.

Mrs. Roy Kemery
Funeral services for Mrs. Roy Kemery, who died at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville,
Monday, March 19, were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. O. H. Hallgrimson. Burial was in the Forest Grove Cemetery.
Hattie Risser was born in Jackson Township November 26, 1891, being aged 53 years,
3 months and 23 days at the time of her death. She was the oldest daughter of Senator and Minerva Risser.
On February 18, 1920, she was married to Roy Kemery and moved to a home in Jackson Township, where she
spent all of her married life. To them were born two daughters and Ha son, all of whom died
in infancy. She united with the Methodist Church at
an early age.
Surviving with her husband and her father, are one
sister, Mrs. Anna Cubbage; two
brothers Abbott Risser and Leland Risser.
She was a kind and thoughtful friend and neighbor,
and will be missed by her family and friends. |

services for George Kemery were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Friday afternoon,
April 25, conducted by Rev. Fred H. Cowles. Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery.

A. Kemery,
son of Henry and Catharine [Brown] Kemery was born
Dec. 20, 1867 in Jackson Township, and died April 23, 1952, at the age
of 84 years, four months, three days.
Mr. Kemery had lived his entire
life in this community.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, [and] one sister.
He is survived by one brother, Francis
Kemery;
3 nephews, Roy, Karl and John Kemery, all of Bedford.
He
was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Bedford. |

Beryl
W. [ebb] Henry,
52, died June 16 in his sleep at his home southeast of Bedford. He was found by his wife [Violet Campbell]
about 7a.m. He was reported
to have had a pain in his chest all day Sunday and death came early
Monday evening.
He
is survived by his wife, and two daughters, Margaret of the home and Mrs. Hal [Virginia]
Perkins of Bedford; a son, Gilbert of Washington, D.C., and several grandchildren.

services will be Thursday afternoon at the Wetmore Funeral home with

Weir,
10, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Weir [Louise Osburn] of southeast of Bedford died in New York City Sunday afternoon,
Sept. 14, his death being attributed to virus influenza.
Donald
was stricken with polio when he was two years old and had never fully
recovered from the illness. He had been in a wheel chair the past three
years and was taken to a specialist in New York City last week by his
parents, where it was hoped he would be benefited. The body arrived Tuesday by train from the east. Mr. and Mrs. [Weir] drove through from New York, arriving home
Wednesday.
Funeral
services will be held at the Wetmore Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Thursday,
Sept. 18, conducted by Rev. Fred H. Cowles. Burial in Fairview Cemetery [Bedford].

Valley, N.Y., Sept. 14, 1952 at the age of 10 years, eight months, 14
days.
He
attended the Forest Grove School for one year and since then had had
a teacher in his home.
He
is survived by his parents; two brothers, Lowell and Lee; one sister, Joyce; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
S. [amuel] A. [lbert] Weir [Olive Martin], Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Osburn; a great grandmother, Mrs. P.
