The funeral services will be held from the home Friday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Fairview cemetery [Bedford]. Mr. Meikle was 87 years old. An obituary will be published in this paper next week. |
Times-Republican Thursday June 7, 1928 [p. 6] William Meikle William Meikle, son of John and Agnes Meikle, was born at Strathaven, Lanarkshire, Scotland, on August 20th, 1840, and died at his home in Bedford, Iowa, May 23rd, 1928, aged 87 years, 8 months, and 23 days. He was the second son and one of twelve brothers and sisters all of whom, except his sister, Agnes Campbell of Bedford, Iowa, preceded him in death. William Meikle came to this country in 1869 and settled on a farm six miles west of Bedford and resided in that vicinity until his retirement from active business about ten years ago, since which time he has made his home in Bedford. On April 17th, 1873, he was united in marriage with Ella Aiton, daughter of the late William and Catherine [Hook] Aiton, and to this union was born four children, John, Agnes, Roy and William, all of whom survive his death except his only daughter, Agnes Goodspeed, who preceded her father in death on September 28th, 1925. He is survived also by his widow, Ella Meikle, and nine grandchildren. William Meikle was always interested in the welfare of the community in which he lived. He was one of the organizers of the Morning Star Presbyterian Church and remained a staunch Presbyterian until his death. He was a Presbyterian of the old school, a Christian gentleman whose character was above reproach. William Meikle was a man of strong and indomitable will, keen in affairs of business and firm in his convictions of right as he was given to see the right and was not swerved from the pathway of his convictions by the opinion of the others or by any wind of fashionable doctrine. In his death the community has lost a staunch defender of right and justice; the church, a power for righteousness; his neighbors a true friend and advisor; and his relatives a kind and loving husband, father and kinsman. |

Bedford Free Press Thursday January 9, 1902 [p. 4] A Very Sudden Death Henry Kemery Dies of Apoplexy. After Trying to Eat His Supper Mr. Kemery Suddenly Expires at His Home in Jackson Township. A very sudden death occurred in Jackson Township last Thursday night. Henry Kemery Sr. had been in failing health for a year or more, but no serious consequences were anticipated. That evening he went to the supper table but was unable to partake of any food, saying he felt badly. Upon arising from his chair he sank to the floor in an almost unconscious condition. In a short time he became unconscious and died at 11 o'clock. Dr. Dunlavy was hurriedly summoned, but to no avail. Mr. Kemery was one of the old settlers of Taylor County, having lived in his present home a long term of years. He leaves a large family. He was aged 62 years, 5 months and 15 days. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. N. Ware. The bereaved ones have universal sympathy in their time of trouble and trial [KEMERY, HENRY, SR.] |

Bedford Free Press Thursday April 22, 1897 [p. 2] Died, Saturday, April 17, 1897, aged 16 years, 2 months and 4 days, Edna C. Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Taylor [Nancy Webb]. Miss Edna had been an invalid for nearly eighteen months, her first illness resulting from an injury received by being thrown from a buggy. Her injury terminated in a tubercular affection of the side, a disease that baffles the skill of the medical profession. During the last months of her illness she was under treatment by two skilled physicians, but all to no avail. Death truly loved a shining mark in this instance, and a large circle of both young and old sincerely mourn with the family the untimely death of one so young, and possessed of such a lovable disposition. The funeral services were conducted from the Church of Christ at 2 P.M. Sunday, with a sermon by Elder Wm. Cobb. Interment was at Fairview. |
