Ed Chamberlain Dead
Last
Saturday morning it was announced on our streets that Ed [gar] Chamberlain [Chamberlin] had died Friday night, very suddenly at his home east of Bedford.
He had been feeling somewhat under the weather for several days, but his death
was not expected and comes as a severe shock to the relatives and friends, who
have known him for many years. He leaves a wife, daughter and son to mourn his
departure from this earth. The family has the deepest sympathy of the entire
community in the loss of a father and husband. Mr. Chamberlain [Chamberlin] had lived in Bedford the greater part of his life and had many warm
friends who will share their grief with the family. The funeral took place from
the residence at 10 o'clock Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Jones and the
remains were laid to rest in the Bedford cemetery.
Obituary.

Chamberlin
Herald
[Harold] C. [harles] Chamberlin,
only son of Edgar and Jennie Chamberlin, was born near Bedford, Iowa, on the 9th day of October 1892, and
departed this life on October 13, 1928, at the age of 36 years and two days. Herald
[Harold] spent his entire life of
36 years in and around Bedford, during which time he made his home with his
mother, Mrs. Jennie Chamberlin of Bedford. During this period of time he was very kind to his mother, and
helped her in many ways. She will miss her only son and deserves the prayers
and sympathy of this community. In the year 1918 he joined the U. S. Army,
uniting with the 88th Division, spending 6 months in this country and six
months overseas. Herald [Harold]
leaves to mourn his departure his mother, Mrs. Jennie Chamberlin, his only sister, Miss Kathryn, and his aunt, Mrs. Addie Lane. In
addition to those mentioned he leaves several cousins and near relatives, also
many warm friends. He was a member of the American Legion of Bedford, also a
member of the Volunteer Fire Department in the city of Bedford. We all
appreciate his war service and his willingness to be of service to his country.
No doubt the hardships of war had much to do with his physical weakness causing
his sudden death. Indirectly then, he has given his life for his country. On
last Monday, Herald [Harold] was taken sick with pneumonia, which illness
lasted but five days, during that time he suffered continually and the end came
Saturday morning at 5:00 o'clock. Herald [Harold] will be
missed by his friends and from his home and from the streets of Bedford. We are
sure his remaining loved ones will have the sympathy and prayers of their many
friends.
Funeral
services were held at the home Monday afternoon, Oct. 15, at 2:00 o'clock,
conducted by Rev. C. M. Crowell. The members of the American Legion and the
Bedford Fire Department attended the services in a body. The Firing Squad of
the Legion Post fired a salute over the grave of their departed comrade in
Fairview cemetery.
