for Anna Black, 80, were held
February 7, 1986 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, officiated by Rev.
John Park Winkler. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. Mrs. Black died February 4, 1986 at Mercy Hospital in Des
Moines.
Anna
[Fern] Irvin Brumfield Black was
born January 26, 1906 at Athelstan, Iowa, the daughter of Eggbert [Egbert]
and Winnie Irvin. She was a
lifelong resident of Taylor County, spending her childhood in Athelstan.
On
June 2, 1926, she married Bert Olin Brumfield. They lived in Taylor County and the surrounding
area and were involved in farming and farm related jobs until his death in
1951.
Anna became an L.P.N, and worked at the Mental Health
Center in Clarinda until she retired.
In
1960, she married Tom Black.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Brumfield; a son, Elgin [Gene] Brumfield; her husband, Tom Black; three sisters and three brothers.
She
is survived by three children, Mrs. Willa King, Des Moines; Elvin Brumfield, Beaumont, Texas; and Ron Brumfield, Waukee, Ia.; a brother, Robert Irvin, Bedford; 17 grandchildren and numerous great
grandchildren.

Brumfield
Dennis
Eugene Brumfield, youngest son of James and Florence Brumfield,
was born in Blockton, Iowa, March 18, 1922 and died at the Broadlawns Hospital
in Des Moines, March 25, 1949 at the age of 27 years and 7 days.
He
grew to manhood in Blockton, attending the public schools and graduated with the
class of 1939. In addition he took a postgraduate course at Blockton in 1940,
after which he was employed in the US Rubber Company offices at Ankeny, Iowa,
until his enlistment in the U. S. Navy in September 17, 1942. He reported for
active duty on Feb. 4, 1943. After three years in the service, he received his
discharge on March 23, 1946.
He
then entered Drake University in Des Moines and would have received his degree
from that institution this summer. At the time of his death he was secretary of
the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity there.
In
early life he became a member of the Christian Church in Blockton, where he
took a great deal of interest, later transferring his membership to the
University Church of Christ in Des Moines, under the ministry of Dr. Marvin
Saisbury, where he was active in his Christian duties.

Oregon; a brother, Kenneth Brumfield of Blockton; six nieces, two nephews; an aged grandfather, Wm.

The
funeral services were held at the Christian church Tuesday afternoon, conducted
by Rev. R. C. Yadon. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
A
group of 100 friends from Des Moines, including 78 fraternity brothers and the
Dean of Men Drake University, attended the last rites. Telegrams were received
from the Dean's office and also from the president of Drake University.

1929 at Sheridan, Mo., the son of Bert Olin and Anna Fern Irvin Brumfield.
He
was married at Hiawatha, Kans., to Oney Mae Hopple. He has lived at Bedford, Ia., and Hopkins, Mo.,
and was presently employed by the Central Telephone Co. He was a past member of
the National Riflemen's Association.
His
father preceded him in death.
He
is survived by his wife, Oney Mae;
two daughters, Sharon and Karla
Kay of the home; three sons, Ricky
Lee, and wife, Barbara, of Gravity, Randy Roy, and wife, Lydia, and granddaughter, Amber Dawn, of Villisca, Ia., and Paul Allen of the home; mother, and stepfather, Anna and
Tom Black, of Bedford; sister and
husband, Willa and Paul King,
of Des Moines, Ia.; twin brother and wife, Elvin and Doris Brumfield, of Beaumont, Texas; brother and wife, Ronald

Florence Brumfield Dies in Clearfield.
Florence
Bullock Brumfield was born in
Leadville, Colo., May 17, 1891 and passed away at the Clearview Home at
Clearfield, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 11 months and one day.
She
was married to James Herbert Brumfield on April 19, 1910; seven children were born to this union, Gerald,
Garland and Dennis preceded her
in death. Her husband also preceded her in death in 1960.
She
is survived by four children, Edna Cain of Yucaipa, Calif., Bernice Kuntz of Seattle, Washington, Kenneth Brumfield of Norwalk, Iowa and Doris Stevens of Des Moines, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, 17 great
grandchildren and one great great grandchild, one brother Charles Bullock of Vernal, Utah and a sister, Margaret Bauslog of Palm Springs, California.
She
lived in Blockton most of her married life. She was a member of the Christian
Church in Blockton. She spent the last three years at the Clearview Home in
Clearfield, Iowa.

Brumfield passed away last
Wednesday night after a long illness. Funeral services were held at the Isadora
Christian church on Saturday and interment was made at Sheridan, Mo. The entire
community extends sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

Obituary
Fred
W. Brumfield was born Oct. 5,
1895, and departed this life Aug. 20, 1925, aged 29 years, 10 months and 15
days.
He
was one of a family of ten, of which seven—J. [ames] H. [erbert]
Brumfield, Blockton; Mrs. E.
T. Schueler, Palisade, Colo.; Mrs.
Dave Argo, Clearfield; V.[ern]
B. Brumfield, Athelstan and Effie,
Margaret and Zona living at home—remain to mourn his going.
Besides these, he leaves his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. [illiam] W.
[ilbur] Brumfield, and a host of
relatives and friends.
In
the early part of 1918 he confessed his Saviour and united with the Christian church
at Isadora. Later in the same year he was called into the service of his
country, and was at once sent over seas. While there he contracted
tuberculosis, which resulted in his death. For the last eighteen months, he was
confined to his bed most of the time. He suffered much.
Some
time before he passed away he renewed his covenant with his Lord and Saviour
and was happy and triumphant to the end, testifying to the saving power of
Jesus.
Funeral
services were held from the Isadora Christian church at 2 o’clock Saturday,
Aug. 22, conducted by S. B. Look of Sheridan, assisted by Challie E. Graham.
In
honor of the service he had rendered his country the American Legion attended
in a body and fired a salute over his last resting place. Interment was in the
Sheridan cemetery.

She
was married to Vern B. Brumfield on Sept 9, 1922, at Palisade, Colo. On July 4, 1923, their only child was born, Opal Marie, now Mrs. Homer
Baxter of Britt, Iowa.
She
Joined the Methodist Church of Fruita, Colo., in childhood.
Most
of her married life was spent in and around Blockton except for periods of time
in Washington and California in construction work or operating motels in Oregon
and Missouri Valley, Iowa.
Myrel was always in good health until she became ill 18
months ago. Since then, she has spent a great deal of time in hospitals.

are her husband, Vern; one
daughter, Opal; two sisters, Mrs.
Goldie Arbuckle of Torrance,
Calif., and Mrs. Ladean Strobaugh of

Robert
L. Brumfield, one of a family of
ten children, was born to Beryl [William Burrell] and Margaret [Massie]
Brumfield in Lawrence County,
Ohio, August 22, 1870, and died at University hospital, Iowa City, Sept. 30,
1953 at the age of 81 years, one month, eight days.
The
family moved from Ohio to Kansas when he was a small boy, and later to Worth
County, Mo. Twenty years ago he moved to Athelstan, where he resided until
about five years ago, when he came to Bedford to make his home with his
daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Miller.
He
was married to Anna Hunt at
Grant City, Mo., Dec. 23, 1897. Two children were born to them, Bert O.
[wen] Brumfield, who died in
April 1951, and Mrs. H. [armon] S. [amuel] Miller (Bessie) of Bedford. Mrs. Brumfield died 14 years ago.
Besides
the daughter and the daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bert O. [lin] Brumfield [Anna
Fern Irvin], he leaves one
brother, William Brumfield,
and one sister, Mrs. S. C. Goff,
the oldest and the youngest of the ten children, and both living in Grant City.
There are five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mr.
Brumfield was engaged in farming
many years. He was a member of the Christian church at Sheridan.
Funeral services were
conducted from the Athelstan church Friday, Oct. 2, by Rev. Robt. M. Peters of
the Bedford Methodist church. Burial in Athelstan cemetery.

Robert
O. [lin] (Bert) Brumfield, 48, died at St. Francis hospital, Maryville,
early Saturday, after becoming ill Friday evening while riding with his wife.
He
had been an employee at the Cudahy Packing Company here for 10 years.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday at the Wetmore Funeral home. Rev. Fred H. Cowles of
the Baptist church officiated. Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

He

He
was a member of the Blockton Christian Church.
In
1922 he was united in marriage to Myrel Hiatt and to this union was born one daughter, Opal.
His
wife preceded him in death in 1967.
He
engaged in farming and carpenter work and operated motels and restaurants
during his life. He retired about 15 years ago because of failing health.
He
is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Homer Baxter of Britt, Iowa; two grandsons, Robert Baxter of Villisca, Iowa, and Ronald Baxter of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two granddaughters, Debbie
and Sheila Baxter of Villisca;

M. Adams was born Dec. 19, 1890
in Jefferson township, Taylor county, Iowa, and died at her home in Blockton,
October 18, 1945 at the age of 54 years, 9 months and 29 days.
She
was married to Frank S. [cott] Cavin on February 28, 1916 at Bedford. She became a member of the Mount
Zion Baptist church in her early girlhood and was a faithful follower of Christ
all her life. Her entire life was spent in the vicinity of Blockton.
She
is survived by her husband Frank S. [cott] Cavin; her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. John
[Morgan] Adams [Margaret Ann Raper] of
Blockton; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Weaver of Bedford, Mrs. Myrtle Field of Savannah, Mo.; three brothers, Elbert Adams of Blockton, Warren Adams of Pittsburg, Kansas, John Adams, Jr.,
of Dallas, Texas.
She
had two sisters, Mrs. Grace Sickles and Mrs. Vesta Kemery, who
preceded her in death.
Burial was in the
Athelstan cemetery.

Albert Cavin, a native of Taylor
County, died at her home in Blockton, Thursday, September15 after a long
illness.

Jessie
Anna Cordell, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jerry Cordell, was born
in Taylor county, Iowa, on April 22, 1889, and departed this life at the age of
71 years, five months, 26 days. Most of her life was spent in Taylor County.
She
was married to Albert Cavin on
February 28, 1910. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Estelle
Scanlan of San Pablo, Calif., Lyle
Cavin of Blockton, Russell
Cavin of Bedford.
Surviving
are her husband, Albert; the
three children; eight grandchildren; one grandson, Glen Hull, who made his home with his grandparents; three
great grandchildren; one sister, Miss Bessie Cordell of Formosa; four brothers, George Cordell of Knoxville, Loyd Cordell of Richmond, Calif., Marion Cordell of Tormey, Calif., Otis Cordell of Blockton.
She
was converted in early life and became a member of the Christian Church at
Blockton and later attended the Methodist church.
On
February 28, 1960, Mr. and Mrs. Cavin observed their Golden Wedding anniversary.

Veterans Hospital in Omaha, Nebr., on January 25, 1975. Interment was at
Athelstan Cemetery, Athelstan, Iowa.
Lonnie
Gilbert Cavin, son of Samuel
W. [iley] and Cora [Geneva] Stevens Cavin, was born September 12, 1888 in Worth County, Mo.
As
a young man he operated a steam engine for threshing crews over Worth County,
Mo., and Taylor County, Iowa. He later answered the call of his country, serving
in Headquarters Co. 40th Infantry in World War I.
In
1922 he was united in marriage to Mary Lucile Brumfield. To this union three children were born, Lillian
Mae who died in infancy, Wesley
Eugene who preceded him in death
and one surviving daughter, Mrs. Edwin King, [Luetta Lorraine] of Blockton.
He
was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and two brothers, Albert and Frank.
Left
to cherish his memory are: his daughter, Mrs. Edwin King, and husband; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Louise
Cavin; nine grandchildren; four
great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Hattie King, of St. Joseph, Mo.; many nieces; nephews; and
friends.
He
was a member of the Defiance Lodge of Sheridan, Mo., for more than 65 years, a
member of Blockton Order of Eastern Star and of Blockton American Legion Post.
Mike, as he was known by many, will be remembered for
his witty humor and his love of nature and will be sadly missed by his family
and friends.

RUSSEL WILBER CAVIN
Funeral
services for Russell Cavin,
age 80 of New Market, who died Monday, April 9, 2001 at the Clarinda Regional
Hospital, were held Thursday, April 12, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ritchie
Funeral Home with Pastor Russ Clark officiating. Interment with military rites
accorded by the Creston V.F.W. Theodore J. Martens Post No. 1797 were held in
the Athelstan Cemetery. Memorials can be given in his name.
Russell
Wilber Cavin was born October 21,
1920 in Athelstan, the son of Albert M. [elvin] Cavin and Jessie A. [nna] Cordell Cavin. Russell grew up in the Blockton/Athelstan area living on
various farms. He graduated from the Blockton High School in 1938. After
graduation he went to his sister's in California where he worked for the
shipyards. He returned to Iowa, and was united in marriage to Mildred L.
[eotta] Sanders in Missouri. In
August of 1942 he entered the United States Army serving in the Southwest
Pacific Expedition and was issued the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal. Russell was honorably discharged in February of 1944. He
returned home to the Blockton area where he farmed for several years. In the
early 1960's the family moved to the New Market area and in 1976 they moved
into the city of New Market.
Russell was a lifetime member of the Creston V.F.W. ~
Theodore J. Martens Post No. 1797 and also a member of the Disabled American
Veterans. He was a true farmer who also enjoyed fishing for catfish and hunting
mushrooms in the spring.
Russell is survived by his wife Mildred of New Market; three children, Gail Cavin of Des Moines; Lynn Steinbach and husband Francis of Newman Grove, Nebraska; Terry Cavin and wife Christine of Great Falls, Montana; a sister, Estelle
Eighmy of Grant City, Missouri; a
nephew, Glen Hull of Blockton
who was raised with Russell;
three grandchildren David Cavin of Des Moines; Royce Steinbach of
Newman Grove, Nebraska; and Claragene Cavin of Great Falls, Montana; and one great-grandson, Eric
Herden.
Preceding Russell in death are his
parents, a son, Aaron Lee and
a brother, Lyle Cavin.

services for Wesley Eugene Cavin,
47, of Blockton were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in
Bedford with Rev. Ray Tackett officiating. Mr. Cavin died Monday at Veterans Hospital in Omaha.
Interment was at the Athelstan Cemetery.
Survivors
include his wife and six children.

Funeral
services for Wesley Eugene Cavin,
47, of Athelstan, were held August 18, 1971 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in
Bedford conducted by the Rev. Ray Tackett of Blockton. Sheridan (Mo.) Defiance
Masonic Lodge and Blockton American Legion Post conducted services at Athelstan
Cemetery.
Except
for a few years as a child in Missouri, most of his life was spent around
Athelstan.
He
served with the Fifth Army in the European Theater during World War II and was
injured during this time.
On
September 11, 1948 he was united in marriage with Louise Long.
He
was preceded in death by his mother and an infant sister.
He is survived by his
wife, Louise; six children, Wesley,
Jr. stationed on USS Austin, Maryann,
Lonnie, Roy Laverne, John and Dannie Joe, all of the home; a step-daughter, Mrs. Gloria Ostrom of Peking, Ill.; father, Lonnie G. [ilbert]
Cavin, Athelstan; sister, Mrs.
Edwin (Lorraine) King, Blockton.
