Obituary
parker---James
Gilbert Parker was born June 3d
1815 in Allegheny county Virginia. Died April 12th 1879 at his home
in Mason Township.
Early in life, Mr.
Parker, with his parents, became
a resident of Highland County Ohio. He removed thence to Grant County Indiana
where he was married to Miss Amelia Paras November 27, 1851. Four years afterwards he settled with his family
in Olmstead County Minnesota; after living there for 9 years, forming many
attachments and making for himself a home of comfort, he came to Taylor County
Iowa to escape the long cold winters of Minnesota. Mr. Parker was a resident of Taylor County for 14 years and
was considered one of the old settlers. Perhaps I could pass no greater
compliment on his life than to say he had the esteem and respect of the whole
neighborhood in which he lived and he was especially held in high regard by the
members of the church to which he belonged. He was for 51 years an active
member of the M. E. Church, much of the time holding official position. He was
a wise counselor, and ever ready to bear a hand in the work of the Master.
While he had much to bind him to the earth he was prepared, and willing, to
die. Without a struggle or the movement of a muscle he passed away, from his
home on earth to his home in heaven. He leaves a wife and nine children,
together with a large circle of friends to mourn his loss, who mourn not as
those who have no hope for they know that their loss is his gain. The funeral
services were held in the Fitch schoolhouse last Sunday. The writer preached
from II Tim IV 6, 7, 8. A large concourse followed the remains to the cemetery.
