Eva Hurt Downing

The following obituary, taken from The Blockton News of Oct. 2, is in regard to a former Bedford lady.

Eva Lee Hurt was born at Greenville, Tenn., Feb., 1893, and died at the Methodist hospital in St. Joseph, Mo., Sept. 25, 1930, aged 37 years, 7 months, and 6 days.  On Feb. 24, 1915, she was united in marriage to John Downing at Platteville, Iowa.  To this union were born two children, Virginia Lee, now aged 12 years, and Elmer Ray, now 10 years of age.  Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her death her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hurt of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mrs. C. L. Valentine and Mrs. L. D. Branson of Bedford, Ia.; two brothers, Lowell and Ivan Hurt of Cheyenne, Wyo., and a number of other relatives and friends.  She united with the Methodist church when a young girl.  She was a devoted wife and mother, a faithful friend and neighbor, and beloved by all who knew her.  The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved husband and two motherless children in their hour of sorrow.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. H. Warrior.  Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

Mrs. H. J. Harbour Dies At Greenfield

Mrs. H. [enry] J. Harbour [Sarah Louella Farnsley], 80, died at her home in Greenfield Wednesday afternoon, following an illness with pneumonia.  She is survived by two sons, F. [rancis] W. [ayne] Harbour of Bedford and Harry Harbour of Greenfield and their families.  Also by a granddaughter, Mona Lou Moye of Evansville, Ind.

The funeral services will be held in Greenfield at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon and burial will be made there.  Mr. Harbour died several years ago.

Elsie Fearnot, 68, Last Rites Were Held Mon., Nov. 9

Funeral services for Mrs. Noble (Elsie) Fearnot, 68, of Bedford, were held November 9 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford conducted by Rev. James Nelson.  Mrs. Fearnot died November 6 in Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.  Interment was at Shearer Cemetery.

Elsie Irene Fearnot, daughter of Jesse and Nancy Maxwell Ridenour, was born at Clearmont, Mo., January 16, 1913.  She lived near Hopkins, Mo., and grew to maturity near Bedford where she attended the public school and the Baptist Church.

She was united in marriage to Noble Ira Fearnot in Grant City, Mo., on October 3, 1931.  They lived in Lenox for two years and in the Conway and Bedford area the remaining years.

To this union seven children were born: Billy Dean, Alberta Fay, Shirley Ann, Phyllis Ilene, Dale Ray, Gale Mae and Beverly Pearl.

Mrs. Fearnot was engaged in domestic services.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Stone Rollers and Rock and Gem Club.

Mrs. Fearnot was preceded in death by her mother, father, a brother, Delbert, in infancy, an infant daughter, Alberta Fay and one grandson.

Left to cherish her memory are: her husband, Noble; six children and spouses; 19 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two brothers; four sisters: Mable Wolfe, Murray, Ia.; Susie Herring, Bedford and Myrtle Sobbing, Red Oak; nieces and nephews; Pearl Orr, Martinez, Calif.; Orville Ridenour, Bedford and Rolla Ridenour, Red Oak.

She was a kind and considerate wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who loved her.

John M. Dalton Dies In Hospital

John Milton Dalton, a resident of Jackson township for many years, died at the State Hospital in Clarinda, Tuesday, January 4.  The funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Archie A. Ross.  Burial was in the Forest Grove Cemetery.  Mr. Dalton was born in Taylor County December 6, 1879.
