Taylor County Herald Thursday August 17, 1944 [p. 8] Mrs. J. D. Eighmy Dies In Kansas Mrs. J. [ohn] D. [ow] Eighmy [Martha Price], a resident of the Bedford community for many years, died at Ottawa, Kansas, Thursday, August 10, at the age of 91 years and 10 days. The body was brought to Bedford and the funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. L. Hufstader. Burial was in the Graceland cemetery. Bedford Times-Press Thursday December 14, 2005 Steve Shehan September 21, 1948-December 7, 2005 Funeral services for Steve Shehan, age 57 of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, formerly of Bedford, who died Wednesday, December 7, 2005, were held Monday, December 12, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford with Reverend Randy Allman officiating. Interment with military rites accorded by the John F. Hardin American Legion Post No. 164 were held in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. Memorials can be directed to Hospice of Chattanooga. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford. Stephen Roy Shehan was born September 21, 1948, in Maryville, Missouri the son of Robert Martin Shehan and Ethel Mae Newkirk Shehan. He grew up in Bedford, graduating from the Bedford High School with the Class of 1967. He answered the call to serve his country by entering the United States Army, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam. Steve met Helen Motsinger in 1968 and on January 3, 1969 the couple was united in marriage in Papillion, Nebraska. After his discharge in 1970, the couple lived in Glenwood and ran Shehan's Department Store until 1979, when the family moved to Albany, Missouri where Steve and his brother John ran the family department store. Steve did other jobs as well. In 1983, they moved to Texas. In 1989, Steve went to work for Walmart's Automotive Department. He helped open many Walmart Stores for over sixteen years. Steve had previously been a member of the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department, Rotary and Jaycees. He enjoyed playing country music on his guitar. Steve had an adventuresome spirit and was always up to the challenge of something new. He was a handy mechanic and could build most anything, always being persistent and dedicated to the task at hand. Steve always put his family first, and enjoyed being involved in their activities. Together he and Helen enjoyed RV'ing and car races. Steve enjoyed working on and driving his 1960 Triumph, TR3, a car he has owned for over 40 years. Left to cherish Steve's memory are his loving wife Helen of Tunnell Hill, Georgia; his mother, Ethel May Hanshaw of Bedford; a son, Robert Martin II of Chattanooga, Tennessee; a daughter, Jennifer Johnson and husband Chris of Dunlap, Tennessee; a brother, David Shehan and wife Vicki of Sandersville, Mississippi; two sisters, Pat Shehan and husband Jon Ryan of Conroe, Texas; and Joyce Shehan of Clarinda; a step-sister, Kay Ware and husband Lynn of Florida; two grandchildren, Blair Johnson of Dunlap, Tennessee and Robert Martin III of Hixson, Tennessee; two step-grandchildren, Sammy and Chasi Johnson of Dunlap, Tennessee and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding Steve in death were his father Robert Shehan; stepfather Cliff Hanshaw; a brother John Shehan; two sisters, Susan and Janice Shehan and a stepbrother Jim Hanshaw. Bedford Times-Press Thursday February 8, 2006 p. 7 Hazel Wiseman Funeral Services for Hazel Wiseman, age 86 of Bedford who died Monday, January 30, 2006 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning were held Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Interment was held in the Hopkins Cemetery in Hopkins, Missouri. Memorials can be directed to the cemetery or to hospice. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford. Hazel Marie (Sharr) Wiseman was born December 29, 1919, in Pickering, Missouri the daughter of Ira Manford Sharr and Elsie Lorene Treese Sharr. She grew up in the Pickering area attending school. On May 18, 1937 she was united in marriage to Leland Wiseman in Maryville, Missouri. They were blessed with the birth of a son Larry and daughter Marilyn. Hazel and Leland lived in the Hopkins area, and because of Hazel's asthma problems, the family moved to California in the mid 1950's, returning to Hopkins in the early 1960's. Hazel worked for St. Joe Light & Power Company for many years and later worked as a bookkeeper for St. Francis Hospital in Maryville and also for the Allison Ford Motor Company. In 1982, after retirement, she and Leland moved to Bedford where she helped her son Larry for a few years at Wiseman Furniture. The couple loved to dance to country music, and they enjoyed attending the local dances in the area on the weekends as often as possible. Hazel enjoyed quilting and doing embroidery on tea towels. She was an excellent cook, specializing in fried chicken and homemade chicken and noodles. She was active when her children were younger, supporting them in their activities, which included horse shows, parades and trail rides. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Orrsburg, Missouri. Left to cherish Hazel's memory are her loving husband of 67 years, Leland Wiseman of Bedford; a son Larry Wiseman and wife Sharon of Bedford; a daughter, Marilyn Oxley and husband Carroll of Clarinda; four grandchildren, Rick and Randy Sheley, Jeff Wiseman and Gayle Wiseman (Christensen) eight great-grandchildren, Jamie, Megan, Josh, Seth, Erica, Tyler, Leslie and Seth; and two great-great grandchildren, Adrian and Peyton. Preceding Hazel in death are her parents Ira and Elsie Sharr; three brothers, Earl Sharr, Dick (Ernest) Sharr and Wilbur Sharr; and a sister Gracie McHargue. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn Hazel's passing. |
