W. D. Marshalls Rites Nov. 21

Mr. and Mrs. Leon Marshall, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Marshall and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Butts [Roe Ethel Thompson] were called to Woodward, Iowa, on Mon., Nov. 19, by the tragic death of their brother and sister, Mr. and Mrs. William D. [aniel] Marshall.  They were found dead in their bed from carbon monoxide poisoning from a faulty furnace pipe.

Mrs. Ruth Marshall was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Enos Thompson [Mary Elizabeth Ratliff], born December 3, 1897, at Greenville, Tenn.  Mr. Marshall was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank [lin] E. [dgar] Marshall [Tabitha Morgan], born April 25, 1890, at Gravity.

On March 20, 1924, the Marshalls were united in marriage at Bedford.  To this union one son was born, Dwight Allen.

The Marshalls lived in the communities of Bedford and Ft. Madison for three years before moving to Woodward approximately 20 years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Marshall joined the Woodward Methodist Church in 1956, transferring from Ft. Madison.

Survivors are their son, Dwight, of Cupertino, Calif.; Mr. Marshall's brothers, Leon and Homer of Bedford, Charles of Detroit, Mich., and Clarence of Kansas City; his sisters, Mrs. Ollie Ferguson of Clarinda, Mable Layman of Rockwell City, Belva Marshall of Lenox, and Elsie Longfellow of Littleton, Colo.; Mrs. Marshall's sister, Mrs. Roe Ethel Butts of Bedford, also two grandchildren, Debbie and Dianna of Cupertino, Calif., and a host of nieces and nephews.

Kirk Kimpton Dies At Gravity

Kirk Kimpton, young son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Kimpton, died at the home near Gravity on August 12, after an illness of several months.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Gravity, Monday afternoon, August 15.  Burial [was] in Gravity cemetery.

On Jan. 29, 1948, Homer Kirk Kimpton came to bless the home of Homer Willis Kimpton and Mary Elizabeth [Moore] Kimpton.  In this home he and his brother, Craig Allen, were given all opportunities to develop their unusual intelligence and ingenuity.  He enjoyed his two years of school and his Sunday school classes as long as he was able to attend them.

His friendly sunny disposition endeared him to the hearts of everyone who knew him.  Kirk had a faith and insight far beyond his seven years.  He had an intimate knowledge of prayer and a personal acquaintance with God.  He loved to hear his mother pray and had complete faith in prayer.

During the past winter it became apparent that his health was failing.  Then followed the long vigil in the hospital, where medical skill and tender loving care was given him.  Scarcely two months ago the final discovery of leukemia was made.  During all this illness his faith and courage increased, as did that of his father and mother, who devoted the summer to his comfort and pleasure in every imaginable way.

He left this earth at the age of seven years, six months, 14 days.  He is survived by his parents and brother Craig; his grandfather, John Kimpton; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Aiton Dresher Dies In South

Aiton Dresher, 54, a former resident of Bedford, died in New Orleans, La., recently.  Last rites and burial were in New Orleans.  He is survived by his wife [Louise McBride] and three children.

Mrs. Roy Leighton Rites Thursday

Mrs. Roy Leighton, 62, the former Miss Grace Sherbeck, died at her home west of Bedford, Sept. 29.

Funeral services will be held at the Wetmore Funeral Home at 2 p. m.  Thursday, Oct. 2, conducted by Rev. Robt. M. Peters.  Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.

Mrs. Roy Leighton Funeral Thursday

Funeral services for Mrs. Roy Leighton were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Robt. M. Peters.  Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

Grace Evangeline Sherbeck, daughter of Sven [Swan] and Matilda [Johnson] Sherbeck, was born at the family home west of Bedford, Jan. 17, 1890, and died in her sleep, Sept. 29, 1952, at the age of 62 years, eight months, 12 days.

She was the youngest of 12 children and had lived her entire life in Taylor County.  She attended school at Silver Lake school in Mason township, and as a small girl confessed her faith in Christ and united with the Morning Star church.

On Dec. 10, 1912, she was married to Roy E. [llis] Leighton of New Market.  To them were born four children: Ellsworth of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Cecil (Ruth) Nicholson of Merino, Colo., Paul of Arcadia, Nebr., Mrs. Bill (Laurel) Sahlie of Arcadia, Nebr.

Besides the four children and her beloved companion, she is survived by one brother, Charles Sherbeck of the old family home; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Douglass of Fort Morgan, Colo., Mrs. Martha Patton of Glen Mills, Penn.; eleven grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and sister, and two grandchildren.
