Mrs. R. W. Thompson, 94, Taken In Death

Mrs. R. [alph] W. Thompson [Elizabeth Delight Sanborn], 94, died at Hand Hospital in Shenandoah early Wednesday morning, May 26.  Funeral arrangements for this long time local resident and community leader are pending at press time on Wed.

Jana Lynn Keith Died Tuesday A.M.

Jana Lynn, year and a half old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Keith [Dorothy Thompson] of Bedford, died at St. Francis hospital, Maryville, early Tuesday morning, March 11, after an illness of only a few days.

Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Thursday afternoon, conducted by Vernie Gilbert of Des Moines.  Burial [was] in Fairview Cemetery.

Surviving with the parents are a sister Joyce and a brother Kenneth, both of the home, other relatives and friends.

Ralph W. Thompson, 88, Rites Wednesday

Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home here Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, for Ralph W. Thompson, who died in the Clarkson hospital, Omaha, Sunday evening, February 16, following a short illness.  Kenneth Miller, minister at the Bedford Presbyterian Church, was in charge.  Interment in the Bedford cemetery, following cremation.

Ralph W. [aldo] Thompson was born February 2, 1870, in Bedford, Iowa, and died on February 16,1958, at the age of 88 years and 14 days.

He was the son of pioneer parents, J. [ames] M. [onroe] Thompson and Martha [Hedrick] Thompson and after his graduation from Bedford High School he attended Leland Stanford University and Iowa University.

After college he entered the employ of his father in the Thompson Mercantile Company and later engaged in the men's clothing business; operated a Ford agency and garage and the Bedford Oil Company in partnership with W. H. Blakemore.  He has been sole owner of the Bedford Oil Company for many years, in which he was engaged at the time of his death.

He is survived by his widow, Elizabeth Delight [Sanborn] Thompson, a daughter, Jean T. Maloy Shenandoah, a son, Donald Thompson and a daughter Martha Conley, both of Los Angeles, California, a sister Mary T. [sic] [Hedrick] Richardson of Bedford, and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Thompson, four brothers, [Seth] Edward, Guy, John and Lawrence and by two sisters, Grace and Nell [Helen].

Mr. Thompson was a member of the Presbyterian church of Bedford, Taylor Lodge 156 A.F. & A.M., and for many years was a member of the Bedford Commercial club.

He enjoyed music and sports and was a member of the Bedford band for years.

His brilliant mind and retentive memory, his interest in current affairs, affairs of government and the arts and in the world of sports made him an enjoyable companion and his absence from our community life will be keenly felt by his many friends and acquaintances.

Leslie R. Cobb Died Here Saturday

Leslie R. Cobb, a resident of the Bedford community his entire life, died Saturday, February 15, after having been in ill health for some time.

Funeral services were held at the Berea church Monday afternoon, Asa Baber officiating.  Burial [was] in Bedford cemetery.

Leslie R. Cobb, son of Wm. and Malinda [Agler] Cobb, was born near Bedford, Nov. 12, 1882, and died at the age of 75 years, three months, three days, being the last of his parent's family to be taken.

When a young man he obeyed the gospel, holding membership in the Berea Church of Christ the remainder of his life.

On March 12, 1906, he was married to Nellie D. [ale] John.  To them three children were born:  Mrs. Norma Baker and [William] Karl Cobb of Bedford, Wayne Cobb of Springfield, Missouri, all of whom survive.  There are nine grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife on January 2, 1944.

Mr. Cobb spent his entire life farming, his chief interest being his home and the work of the church.

Mrs. Ray Journey Dies In Arizona

Mrs. Ray Journey [Mary Ellen Johnson] of Bedford died Saturday, January 31 in Safford, Arizona, where she and her husband were spending the winter.

The body was brought to Bedford by Mr. Journey and their two daughters, Gwendolyn and Thelma, arriving here Wednesday morning.

The body will lie in state at the Shum Funeral Home until funeral services at two o'clock Thursday afternoon, February 5.  Burial in Old Memory Cemetery at New Market.
