Iowa South-West Saturday August 28, 1869 [p. 3] Died----In Bedford, Iowa, August 19th, 1869, of Typhoid Fever, Emma D. [Wyeth], wife of D. C. Eldridge; aged 19 years, 3 months and 19 days. Unveil they bosom, faithful tomb, And give these sacred relics room To slumber in the silent dust. The funeral services will take place at the Baptist church, on Sunday, Feb. 7th, at 11 o'clock a.m. Bedford Times-Press Thursday October 31, 1929 p. 3] Mrs. Walter Culberson Mrs. Arch Clayton of the vicinity of Siam received a telegram Tuesday morning telling of the death of her sister, Mrs. Walter Culberson [Arrena Allen], which occurred at Sheridan, Wyo. An auto accident was the cause of the death. No particulars were given. Mr. and Mrs. Arch Clayton, Mrs. Jesse Henderson and Charles Culberson left at once for Sheridan. Times-Republican August 2, 1928 [p. 4] Former Bedford Lady Passed Away In Okla. The Body Is Now On Way To Bedford For Burial. Joe Keith of this city received a wire Wednesday morning announcing the death of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Emma Keith, wife of Levi N. Keith, who died at Waukomia, Okla., Tuesday morning. The body will be shipped here for burial. The funeral will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. G. T. Roberts. Interment will be made in the Bedford cemetery. Times-Republican August 9, 1928 [p. 4] Mary Emma Keith Mary Emma, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bishop, was born in Des Moines County, near Burlington, Iowa, July 19, 1860, and passed away at her daughter's home in Waukomia, Okla., July 31, 1928, at the age of 68 years and 12 days. She became a member of the Christian church 36 years ago and has always been a devoted Christian. She had a loving disposition and was a friend to everyone. She was married to L. [evi] N. Keith on Feb. 10, 1881. They lived in Taylor County until 1889, when they moved to Oklahoma, where they had since resided. Her husband preceded her in death six years ago. To this union were born four children: Mrs. Cora Jewell of Waukomia, Okla.; Floyd Keith of Garber, Okla.; Mrs. Alta Nelson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Beulah, who died in infancy. Besides her children she leaves two brothers, I. [saac] L. [ewis] Bishop of Bedford and William Bishop of Osceola, Ia., also 12 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services were held at the Christian church Friday, Aug. 3, 1928, at 10:00 a.m., conducted by Rev. G. T. Roberts. Burial was in Bedford cemetery. Bedford Times-Press Thursday January 19,1967 ]p.] 3 Rose Larison Rites Friday Funeral services for Mrs. John (Rose) Larison, 92, of Bedford, were held Jan. 13, at the Bedford Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ollie Odle officiating. Mrs. Larison died at Thogmartin Care and Keep Home in Bedford, Jan. 9. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford. Rose Rebecca Larison, daughter of August and Hannah [Ditch] Ernest, was born in Phillipsburg, Kansas, July 23, 1874. She was the oldest in a family of nine children. When a little over a year old she was brought to Taylor County and lived southeast of Bedford in the Forest Grove community where she attended school and lived until a young woman. On Jan. 3, 1894, she was married to John I. Larison and for several years they lived on a farm east of Bedford. They left the farm in 1920 and came to Bedford where she lived the rest of her life. They had no children of their own but they took two children, John Buell, deceased, and Edith Pickering, to love and raise as their own. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, three brothers, and the foster son. She is survived by her daughter, Edith Pickering, Bedford; three sisters, Alice Brown, Maude Spurgeon and Loula Reece, all of Bedford; two brothers, Herman Ernest, Clarinda, and Glen Ernest, Bedford; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and a host of other relatives and friends. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge and Wild Rose Club. In 1894 she was baptized into the Baptist church where she spent her life serving her Lord in the various duties of the church. She taught a Sunday school class for many years and was the backbone of the Women's Missionary Society. She loved her church and attended every Sunday until about six months ago, when her health kept her from going. Besides being a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother, she was a devoted wife, a kind neighbor, and a wonderful friend, but best of all she was an inspiring Christian to everyone who met her, and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Iowa South-West Saturday September 18, 1869 [p. 3] Died---on Friday, Aug. 27th, '69, of ulceration of the bowels, William Walker, aged 66 years. Iowa South-West Saturday May 22, 1869 [p. 3] DIED.----At his residence in Bedford at 12 o'clock on the 27th day of April A.D. 1869, of congestion of the lungs, Ezekiel Rose, in the 41st year of his age. OBITUARY.----Mr. Rose was born Feb. 26th, 1825, in Clinton County, Illinois. About sixteen years ago he immigrated to Iowa. He enlisted in Company F. of the 29th Regiment of Iowa Vol. Inft. and served faithfully until the close of the war and received an honorable discharge. Since which time he has been twice elected to the office of County Treasurer of Taylor Co. He united with the M.E. Church at about the age of 22, and continued to keep up the family altar until his death. As a Christian he was faithful; as a soldier he was true; as an officer he was reliable; as a citizen without fault. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss, but their loss is his infinite gain. His funeral was the largest ever witnessed in Taylor County. Iowa South-West Saturday December 23, 1876 [p. 3] DIED, DERRICKSON.----On the 14th inst., in Bedford, Mrs. Delilah Derrickson, wife of John Derrickson, Sen. Bedford Times-Press December 29, 1938 p. 3 Mrs. Wm. Osburn Anna Linard Miles was born in Davenport, Iowa, Sept. 2, 1855 and passed away at her home near Bedford, Tuesday evening, Dec. 13 at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 13 days. She was the daughter of Rev. E. [dward] M. and J. [ulia] A. [Ann Erwin] Miles. She was converted in a little girl's prayer meeting at the Francis Shimer academy while attending the conservatory of music. She was baptized April 27, 1872, by her father in the Mississippi River. Her greatest delight was in rendering services to her church and community by her musical ability. On Dec. 11, 1879, she was united in marriage to William Osburn of Camanche, Iowa, and to this union were born seven children. Her husband and two children, Gertrude Henderson and Jimmie Osburn, preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing, Roy and Minnie at home, Irvie of Auburn, Iowa, Emmett and Walter of Bedford. Also fourteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one brother, E. M. Miles of Lake City, Iowa. The funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon, Dec. 16, conducted by Rev. A. Douglas Steffenson. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery. Six grandsons acted as the pallbearers. |
