Mary Lasley Rites Oct. 10

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lasley, 83, of Blockton, were held Oct. 10 at the Blockton Christian Church with Rev. James Ferris and Rev. Clarence Landis officiating.  Mrs. Lasley died Oct. 8 in the Ringgold County Hospital.  Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.

Mary Elizabeth Lasley was the oldest daughter of Albert and Minerva Weaver; Mary was born near Athelstan, Iowa, Feb. 11, 1882.

She received her education in Taylor County schools and received degrees at St. Joseph Business University [and] Highland Park College, Des Moines.  She also received and graduated from Beautician's School in Chicago, and taught school for 21 years at Maloy and Redding, Iowa.

She taught Sunday school in the Christian Church of which she was a member.  In 1904 she was baptized and joined the church of which she was active as long as health permitted.

On August 13, 1924, she was married to Willis H. Springs.  They made their home in Chicago where they operated a beauty salon and barbershop.  Mr. Springs died in St. Louis in 1934.

Mrs. Lasley came back to Blockton and Sheridan, Mo., where she met and married Simeon Lasley in August [1] 1939.  Mr. Lasley died Nov. [30] 1959.

She is survived by a brother, Roy Weaver, of Blockton; sister, Jessie, of Phoenix, Ariz.; stepson, Dale Lasley of Red Oak; three grandchildren, Mrs. Dola Simmons of Blockton, Irvin Dale Lasley of Sioux City and Jerry Dean in the Armed Forces in Viet Nam; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.

She will be missed by her many friends.

Olive Nickell Rites Oct. 9

Funeral services for Mrs. Harlie (Olive) Nickell, lifetime Gravity resident, held Oct. 9 at the Gravity Christian Church, were conducted by Rev. Donald A. Peel.  Mrs. Nickell died at her home in Gravity, Oct. 6, at the age of 79 years, three months and four days.  Interment was in the Washington Cemetery, Gravity.

Included in the services was the following obituary:

Olive Edna Hamblin, daughter of Arthur A. and Edna [Akey] Hamblin, was born July 2, 1885, near Gravity, Iowa.

She was married to Harlie Nickell, March 15, 1911.  To this union two sons were born, Homer Franklin, who died in 1939, and Horace Lee.

She was a member of the Gravity Christian Church, Royal Neighbors, and Rebekah Lodge.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, a devoted neighbor and friend.

She continued to live in her own home after the death of her husband, in Dec. 1961.  She had been in failing health since January and on August 13 she suffered a stroke and was taken to Rosary Hospital in Corning where she spent nine days.  She did not recover from this stroke.  During this time she was cared for by her faithful and loving daughter-in-law, Stella, and son, Horace.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, two sisters, a brother, and her son, Homer and husband.

She is survived by her son, Horace, his wife, Stella; granddaughter, Doris of Moberly, Mo.; grandsons, Marvin of Omaha, Nebr., Steven, Galen, Edwin and Gordon of the home; two brothers, Ray Hamblin of St. Joseph, Mo., Frank, of Modesto, Calif.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Amasa Hamblin [Bertha Meyers], Bedford, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Her favorite scripture that she lived by was Philippians 4:11.

She was a loving and wonderful mother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Final Rites For Gravity Couple

Double funeral was held Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kimpton at Gravity Methodist Church with Rev. James Sheckler officiating.  Mr. and Mrs. Kimpton died within two days of each other after living together for more than 50 years.  Mrs. Kimpton, 81, died Feb. 5 at the home six miles northwest of Gravity, and Mr. Kimpton, 84, who had been hospitalized after her death, died Feb. 7 at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital.  Interment was at the Guss cemetery.

Included in the survivors are Mr. Kimpton's brother, John, of Gravity and a sister of Mrs. Kimpton's, Mrs. Ellsworth (Edith) Jones of Gravity.

Final Rites For Gravity Couple

A double funeral was held Feb. 9 at Gravity Methodist Church for Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kimpton, life-long Taylor County residents, with Rev. James Sheckler officiating.  Mrs. Kimpton died at the home north of Gravity Feb. 5 and Mr. Kimpton died Feb. 7 at Clarinda Municipal hospital.  Interment was at Guss cemetery, Taylor County, Iowa.

Included in the services was the following obituary:

Frank M. [erton] Kimpton, second child of Cornelius and Emma Kimpton, was born Nov. 2, 1879, in Taylor County, Ia.

Lottie M. (Huss) Kimpton, first child of Charles and Belle [Posten] Huss, was born January 5, 1883, in Taylor County, Ia.

Both received their education in Taylor County, she at Antioch and he at Skinner.

The two were joined in marriage Feb. 4, 1902, and to this union were born seven children.  They spent their lives farming in Taylor County.  For 52 years they lived on a farm north of Gravity.

They were preceded in death by a son, Orie E., who died Feb. 10, 1946.

On Feb. 4, 1964, they observed their sixty-second wedding anniversary.

They are survived by five daughters: Blanche E. Barchus, Hazel B. Horton, and Pearl E. McCoy, all of Clarinda; Maude M. Lawrence of Long Beach, Calif., and Edna A. Syring of Buena Park, Calif.; a son: Willis F. of Portland, Ore.; 24 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; two of her sisters: Edith Jones of Gravity, Eva Finch of Ephrata, Wash.; one of her brothers: Robert Huss of Riverside, Calif.; three of his brothers: Fred of Portland, Ore., John of Gravity, and Wallace of Florida; a host of friends and relatives.

She was a long-time [member] of Royal Neighbors.
