Grover Clark Died In Denver, Colorado

[Jesse] Grover Clark, 75, a former resident of Bedford, died in Denver, Colorado, Monday, March 30.  Funeral services were held there on Wednesday.

He is survived by four children and several grandchildren.  Also by two brothers, Paul Clark of Bedford, Rev. Wayne Clark of Canton, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Vira Galloway of Kansas City.  He was a brother-in-law of L. C. Klopp of Bedford.  His wife, the former Miss Lottie Klopp of Bedford, died several years ago.

Paul Clark of Bedford went to Denver for the last rites.

Mrs. Lois Houk Died Here Wednesday

Mrs. Lois [Boyer] Houk, 78, a long-time resident of Bedford and community, died Wednesday morning, April 1, at the Armstrong Nursing Home.  Funeral services are pending.

Mrs. Lois Houk Rites Here Friday

Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Houk, who died in Bedford, Wednesday, April 1st, were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Friday afternoon, Rev. Elmer Baker officiating.  Burial in Gravity cemetery.

Lois Edith Boyer, daughter of Spencer [Smith] and [Sarah] Jeanette [Mechem] Boyer, was born December 29, 1880, at Clarion, Iowa, and died at the age of 78 years, three months, three days.  She and her twin sister [Lillian Edna] were the youngest of seven children.

On May 7, 1902, she was married to Harry W. [right] Houk.  To this union two sons, Clark and Rex, and one daughter, Eva, were born.  She always said she had raised three families, first her own, then she took for her second family a great nephew, Joseph Boyer and his sister, Mrs. Dorothy Beal, who had been left orphans.  Then her third family was the son of her daughter Eva, Virgil Williams.

When a girl of 14 years, she united with the Christian church.  She finished her schooling in Des Moines at Des Moines University.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, her twin sister [Lillian], a son, Clark and a daughter, Eva.  She is survived by one son, Rex, of Phoenix, Arizona; twelve grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Buswell of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Myrtle Kent of Kansas City; several nieces and nephews.

Rev. C. T. Swander Dies In Oregon

Word has been received by relatives here of Rev. Clarence F. [T?] Swander, telling of his death in Portland, Oregon, on March 22.  Rev. Swander will be remembered by many older residents of this vicinity.  He was born on a farm near Bedford and received his high school education here.

When still a young man he went to Oregon where he was pastor of local churches for several years.  Later he became State Secretary of Christian Missions of the State of Oregon and served in that capacity for 40 years, retiring in 1948.  He has been in failing health the past several years.

He is survived by his wife, Delia; a son, Courtney Swander, and his wife Lois, of San Jose, Costa Rica.

Mrs. Ray Johnson of Bedford and Mrs. Vera Egleston of Lenox are nieces of Rev. Swander.

George Bix Rites At Siam Sunday

George Bix, Jr., a resident of Taylor County for many years, died Thursday, October 29, at the home of his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Thurman in the New Market community.

Last rites were held at the Siam Christian church, Sunday afternoon, November 1st.  Rev. Clarence Potter of New Market officiated.  Burial was in the Siam cemetery.

George Bix, Jr., son of George and Margaret Bix, was born in Bodham County, near Norfolk, England and died at the age of 81 years, four months, eight days.  He came with his parents to America at the age of three years, locating in Taylor County, where he spent the remainder of his life.  He was a member of the Christian church, joining when a young man.

He was married to Pamelia Ann Gant on Dec. 8, 1906.  To them five children were born:  Paul Bix of Clarinda, Ralph Bix of Hopkins, Zelma Moellenberndt of Gravity, Mae Thurman and Bill Bix of New Market.

He is survived by his five children, twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren.  Also by one sister, Miss Ella Bix of Clarinda; and one brother, Ernest Bix of Ottumwa, Iowa.

The funeral of Earl [Robert] Redenbaugh, a former resident of Siam, who died in Vancouver, Wash., on Jan. 6, was held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon.  The six children were present at the funeral.  They are: Miss Eula Redenbaugh of Boulder, Colo.; Oren Redenbaugh of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; Mrs. Wayne (Violet) Ward of Ralston, Nebr.; Mrs. W. D. (Velma) Moore of Craig, Colo.; Col. Floyd Redenbaugh of Rochester, Minn.; Ralph Redenbaugh of Vancouver, Wash.  Others from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Lewellen of Kaw, Okla., Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wasson and family of Council Bluffs, Donald Clayton of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Caskey, Overland Park, Kans., Mrs. Redenbaugh (Dessie) [Clayton] returned to the home of her daughter in Ralston Thursday night but plans to return here for a visit later.

E. Redenbaugh Rites Today

Services for Earl R. [obert] Redenbaugh, about 70, will be held at the Methodist church in Siam today (Thursday) at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. J. Milton Kinney of Bedford in charge.  Mr. Redenbaugh died January 6 in a Vancouver, Wash. hospital.  Burial will be in the Siam cemetery.

His wife was formerly Dessie Clayton of the Siam vicinity.  They have six living children.  He was a brother of Miss Nettie Redenbaugh, Bedford, and Mrs. Margaret Pratt, New Market.

Frank Gant Dies

Frank Gant, about 70, son of Samuel Jr. and Mary [Etta Salen] Gant, died Jan. 12 at Baker, Okla., where he had lived many years.  He was born north of Siam on the old Gant homestead.  His sister, Mrs. Delpha Pitman and brother, Roy Gant, and two nephews, Geo. and Lyle Pitman, left immediately for Baker.  Besides the relatives named, he leaves his wife, Velma Mendenhall Gant of the home.  The funeral was held Monday at Liberal, Kans., with burial there.
